Chapter 118 Ultimatum
Out in the Atlantic Ocean was a new constructed Oil platform. Apparently and unsurprisingly the company of BP was going bankrupt due to people no longer using oil anymore. In a last effort to make profit they installed a new platform to drill a large deposit of Oil for something new.
And in the process they awakened a magma like species that were climbing the rig to attack the workers. (Fucking morons)
Currently Aqua man was rushing to the platform.
"The New Bermuda Platform's under attack. If it collapses, its Deep Water Horizon all over again or maybe even worse." Aqua man said on the comms. "I thought with Energon these idiots would stop drilling."
"Apparently the same guys who caused Deep Water Horizon can't get the hint. BP is extremely close to bankruptcy. They must need Oil for something to pull themselves out of the hole they've put themselves in." Sean said flying towards the platform.
"We're on our way." Superman said as he, Wonder Woman and Batman in his suit flew to the rig.
Aqua man jumped onto the platform before attacking the Magma creatures before Sean flew in and blasted them away.
"These idiots dug right into the Earth's Magma. Never occurred to them something might actually be living down there." Aqua man said before the others arrived.
However as the Magma creatures surrounded them a swirl of wind tossed them around.
"Oh no." Sean said knowing what was coming.
"Not to worry, fellow heroes. The Ultimen are here." The one known as Wind Dragon said with his group. (I'm not even going to bother with descriptions since you all know them anyway)
"Not again." Sean said annoyed. These guys showed up shortly after everyone got their powers back. Sure they helped but some of them were rather annoying being old school. Saying things no one said anymore.
Soon enough everyone was fighting these creatures before Superman got covered in Lava that hardened before Wind Dragon blew them away before his pal Juice appeared next to him.
"You know, Juice, Superman was my hero when I was a lad. It's not his fault he's getting old." Wind Dragon said. (Wow! You call him your hero and then you fucking insult him when he's right there)
"Old?" Superman said incredibly annoyed before breaking out.
"Old, but spry, sir. Old, but Spry." Wind Dragon said.
Wonder Woman used her Lasso on the creatures before drop kicking one as Long Shadow helped her out.
"It's, uh, really an honor to be working with you, Wonder Woman." Long Shadow said.
"Thank you, Long Shadow." Wonder Woman said kindly.
"Heads up!" Sean yelled blasting some off into the ocean right over them.
Suddenly downpour made a large tidal wave while Shifter turned into a sea serpent.
"Wha? Oh SHIT!" Sean yelled as he was hit by the wave before Shifter got him and brought him back up.
"It's ok, Kruger. It's only me, Shifter." Shifter said.
"A little warning next time?" Sean asked.
"We were only trying to help." Shifter said before Sean jumped and landed next to Batman and Aqua Man before Venom took over.
"Can you make Telepathic contact?" Batman asked Aqua man.
"Do these look anything like fish?" Venom asked.
"They aren't." Aqua man said.
"Don't despair, old chum." Wind Dragon said using his wind on the Magma Creatures before they turned into ice and broke apart.
"Whoa." Sean said taking control.
"I didn't know you could do that." Long Shadow said.
"Neither did I." Wind Dragon said in equal surprise.
Later
"Finding new sources of fuel for an energy starved world is truly a worthy endeavor. But in mans quest to better himself he must respect all the worlds creatures. Including those poor beasts whose homes you've disturbed. It's imperative that we learn to share our planet if Earth is to survive." Wind Dragon said to the workers.
"He's certainly...Earnest." Aqua man said.
"Arthur, the word you're looking for is fucking corny." Sean said making Venom chuckle on his shoulder. "My god talk about a suck up." Sean said.
"Isn't it time you accepted the Legions offer?" Wonder Woman asked.
"What?" Sean asked in surprise.
"We're truly flattered but we're simply not ready yet." Wind Dragon said. "We're not ready to live up to legends." Wind Dragon said making Sean sigh loudly in annoyance.
"Oh my fucking god! Thats it! We're outta here!" Sean yelled before pressing a button on his suit and the five vanished.
"Was it something I said?" Wind Dragon asked.
Later
On the news was none other than Maxwell Lord taking an interview about his Ultimen.
"Mr. Lord, Your Ultimen have taken the country by storm these last few months. Why do you think that is?"
"Simple, Mike. They're heroes people can trust, release to, depend on. They're not aloof. They don't put themselves above us mere mortals the way some heroes do." Lord said. (God even back then when I was a little kid I hated this guy)
"Are you referring to the Legion?" Mike asked.
"Who?" Lord said.
"Fuck you!" Sean yelled watching the news.
"But what about those who criticize you for the millions you've made in licensing and endorsement deals?" Mike asked.
"All the money generated by the Ultimen is funneled back into the group to cover overhead. Fighting crime isn't cheep and even heroes have to eat." Lord said.
"I can't listen to any more of this." Superman said before Sean shut the TV off.
"Fucking asshole." Sean said crossing his arms.
"He's dripping more Oil than that Platform ever could if it wasn't reduced to dust." Superman said. Since the Oil company did this without authorization the Platform was taken down much to BP's annoyance and anger.
"And he has the Gall to take cheep shots at us." Aqua man said equally annoyed.
"Sean and I know Maxwell Lord. All he cares about is money." Batman said since both of them have had past experiences with him and his methods.
"To be fair it does take money to do what we do. Not everyone is independently wealthy." Wonder Woman said.
"Lord's the definition of a walking ego. If he's involved in this it isn't about helping people." Batman said.
"More importantly theres something off about those five. We know the names of every hero. Enhanced or not. These five show up out of nowhere. Theres no background information. No fingerprints no DNA no fucking nothing. I don't like that in the slightest." Sean said.
"You mean theres literally no information on them?" Superman asked narrowing his eyes.
"Nothing. Not even an incident report on them. It's they like they don't even actually exist. I think Lord is hiding something about them." Sean said.
"I don't know about Lord, but I think these Ultimen have potential that should be encouraged." Wonder Woman said.
"I'm not so sure about that. Long Shadow and the others are decent but Wind Dragon is so full of himself. Those corny lines. Those fucking speeches. It was like listening to an 70's and 80's cartoon." Sean said. (Fun fact is these five are based off of 70's and 80's characters)
Meanwhile
The Ultimen at their headquarters.
"So last night, Inside celebrity did a whole segment on wind dragon And Mr. Swelled-head here didn't even mention the rest of us." Downpour said playing poke with his sister and lost. "When do I get to be team leader?"
"When your teeth sparkle like mine." Wind Dragon said showing his teeth.
"Kids, You know you two play the best at Tweens. Your faces are on the walls of every 12-year-old in America." Lord said walking in.
"I don't know about Shifter but I'm sick of being a teen idol. There's more to me than just a pretty face." Downpour said making his sister scoff.
"Did I forget to give you the royalty check for the new water-spouting downpour action figure?" Lord asked handing him a check.
"What I want to know is..." Long Shadow tried to say.
"Why can't we join the Legion?" Everyone said.
"It's ok I used to think like that too." Wind Dragon said before Lord got a call on his phone and left.
"Yes Ma'am, but just because Wind Dragon has a new power...Yes I understand. I'll check them all out." Lord said hanging up.
Meanwhile
Sean growled as he fought against Brother Blood and Savage Oppress at a prison. Both were sent to free the prisoners to increase their ranks.
"You two seriously think you can beat me? I've taken down guys who were a hundred times more dangerous." Sean said.
"Maybe. But this will distract you long enough." Blood said before.
"Bizarro's here to save the day!" Bizarro yelled before hitting Sean back making him growl.
Both Savage and Blood went back to the prison but Long Shadow was in the way.
"Out of the way weakling." Savage said before Long Shadow grew.
"You were saying?" Long Shadow asked.
"Grrrr! Retreat!" Blood yelled as a portal opened up before the three left.
"Nice timing kid." Sean said making him grin.
Later
"Believe it or not, When I was born I was small, sickly. But lucky for me my folks were scientists experimenting with growth hormones. Guess the experiments were a success." Long Shadow said.
"And where are your folks now?" Sean asked leaning against a tree.
"Well, mom passed away. Dad's retired. Do you really think I could make it in the Legion?" Long Shadow asked making him chuckle.
"Everyone deserves a chance. However your friend Wind Dragon is uh how should I put this?" Sean asked.
"Full of himself?" Long Shadow asked making him chuckle.
"Yeah thats it." Sean said before Long Shadows phone rang.
"I've gotta go." Long Shadow said.
Later
The Ultimen were in the Labs getting checked out.
"How long are they gonna keep us like this?" Shifter asked.
"Whats the matter Sis? Gotta get him and wax your mustache off?" Downpour asked making Juice laugh.
"Well, I, for one, have a date." Wind Dragon said.
Behind the glass was Hamilton and Lord.
"It's worse than we originally thought." Hamilton said showing the data. "The Ultimen's cellular matrix isn't holding. Wind Dragon, in particular is showing massive cellular atrophy. But they're all in the early stages of failure." Hamilton said.
"How long?" Lord asked.
"A few months, a few days. The progression will be painful. We should do everything we can to help them." Hamilton said.
"Thats not our priority."
They looked and saw a thin African American woman walk in.
"But Mrs. Waller, I really think that we..." Lord tried to say.
"Since when did your opinion count, Lord? How long till we get the second group up and running?" Amanda Waller asked.
"Five days if we push ourselves." Hamilton said.
"Make it three." Amanda said.
"And the Ultimen?" Hamilton asked.
"They're expendable." Amanda said.
Unknown to them was that Long Shadow could hear them and narrowed his eyes.
Later
The Ultimen were watching TV in some room before Juice fried the cameras and they busted out.
Rushing past the guards they ran looking for something.
"What are we looking for?" Shifter asked.
"We'll know when we find it." Long Shadow said kicking down a door that had some cages before they walked past them only for some mutated dog to start barking at them.
"AHHH!" Shifter screamed in fright.
"Over there." Long Shadow said making them look seeing five tubes and in them were identical duplicates of themselves.
Later
Waller, Lord and Hamilton were in the lab with the clones.
"The clones are unharmed." Hamilton said.
"Security can't find a trace of our Ultimen." Amanda said before turning to Lord. "But I want you to find them Lord."
"You really think they'll trust me? They won't believe a word we say now." Lord said.
"Bring them back or I'll have Hager call in a squad to put them down. I want this laboratory dismantled and relocated." Amanda said.
Meanwhile
"Hmm." Sean said going through various files on anyone matching Long shadow's description but was coming up blank.
"Still can't find anything?" Lane asked sitting next to him.
"Nothing. I don't get it. No one just comes out of fucking nowhere except..." Sean paused widening his eyes.
"What is it?" Lane asked.
"The only kind of people they just suddenly appear out of the blue are created people. Artificial like Cathrine's male side of Elementia." Sean said.
"Wait you lost me." Lane said.
"What if the reason we can't find anything on these kids is because not to long ago they didn't even exist. It would make sense. Today's technology opens up countless possibilities. And like Mills said Genetics is a new frontier for us." Sean said before an alert came up. "Now what?" Sean asked before video surveillance of the Ultimen minus Long Shadow who was helping people out of a tall building were attacking said building.
"What the hell?" Lane asked before Sean bolted out to stop them.
Long Shadow was carrying the people down to safety.
"Need a hand?" Sean asked flying to him with Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Aquaman who Batman carried.
"Whats going on?" Superman asked.
"I'll explain later." Long Shadow said
Inside the Ultimen tore up the halls and offices.
"Whats the point of this? We'll never find Cadmus or a cure." Shifter said.
"Then what? We just die and let them replace us? No one ever knows we were here? That we mattered?" Wind Dragon asked.
"I say we just bring the whole building down on top of us." Downpour said.
"Don't give up hope yet, Downpour. We've got friends in high places." Long Shadow said with the others behind him.
"You idiot, do you really think that they can help us?" Shifter asked.
"Look whatever is going on we'll do everything in our power to..." Sean tried to said.
"Yes, power. That's what it always comes down to, doesn't it? And that's the only way we'll be remembered." Wind Dragon said as his powers started acting up. "If we're the ones who take down the Legion the world will never forget us." Wind Dragon said getting the others to agree.
"Listen to yourselves. You're not making any sense. You're getting sicker." Batman said.
"Translation, they're afraid to face us." Wind Dragon said.
"Enough of this." Sean said blasting them back before they scattered. "Find them." Sean said going after Wind Dragon.
Wind Dragon growled as he tried to make sure he wasn't ambushed.
That proved to be a mistake as Sean appeared from above and put him into a headlock.
"Listen to me bud you need to calm down." Sean said.
"And you need to back off!" Wind Dragon said blowing him away into a wall before Sean blasted him but he dodged.
Superman then rushed in trying to stop him but got caught in his wind.
"You don't have to do this!" Superman yelled.
"It's all I know! It is what I was created to do!" Wind Dragon yelled.
"You're confused, Dragon. The Cellular Degeneration." Superman tried to say.
"No more words! I'll suck the wind right out of you!" Wind Dragon said sucking the air out of him making Superman gasp for air before Sean charged and pulled him into a head lock.
"LOOK WHAT YOUR DOING! Is this what you want to be remembered for!" Sean yelled making him look and stopped. "You said he was your hero." Sean said making him roar and blasted the wall destroying.
"He was my hero. And A hero is all I ever wanted to be." Wind Dragon said on his knees.
Later
The Ultimen were cuffed and ready to be taken away.
"Project Cadmus? Thats all you know?" Sean asked.
"Everything else is an implanted memory." Long Shadow said.
Suddenly however army trucks started to arrive before armed men came out along with Amanda Waller and Lord.
"The Ultimen belong to us." Amanda said.
"Belong?" Wonder Woman said narrowing her eyes on her.
"Yeahs that not gonna happen Waller. They are coming with us. It's either that or oh I don't know...Someone could leak out information regarding a certain incident in midway City in 2015." Sean said.
"Are you blackmailing me?" Amanda asked.
"No...Threatening is more of the term." Sean said making her narrow her eyes before grinning.
"You win. This time." Amanda said.
"Who are you people?" Batman asked.
"That is none of your business Bruce Wayne." Amanda said before she and the others left.
"Don't even think about it." Sean said stopping him from going after them.
Later
The Ultimen were in Wakanda getting ready to go into Stasis right next to Bucky Barnes.
"Until we can find a way to cure you guys you'll have to stay here." Sean said.
"How long?" Wind Dragon asked.
"A couple months at best." Shuri said before they went in and were frozen.
"Amanda Waller. I was under the impression she was killed by Shadow Spire years ago.
"I think I can explain that. You remember my LMD project? She was the one who supported that project the most. She must have used it." Sean said. (LMD stands for LIFE MODEL DECOY)
"So what now?" Okoye asked.
"Now I have to do something I really don't want to do." Sean said leaving.
Meanwhile
Amanda Waller was at her desk looking over some files till she smirked.
"You know most people use the door." Amanda said lowering the files seeing Sean sitting in the chair in front of her.
"I ain't most people." Sean said.
"What is it? Gonna question my intentions?" Amanda asked since they have had years of differences in the past.
"No...I need your help." Sean said surprising her.
"Oh? The last time you needed my help was to track down every person in the government who was responsible for that Zombie outbreak your friend Frank West told you about. What do you need my help with? You can usually handle anything these days." Amanda said. Sean sighed before pulling out a file and handing it to her before she looked at it. "The incident of the town Hope? Your adopted brother is from there." Amanda said.
"I have been looking over this file for 5 years. The terrorist was Osama bin Ladin's right hand man before his death. I look at this file and there are more questions then answers. How did he get into the country? How did he get past security? Why the hell was he in Hope? These are important questions. It's under my belief this file is not the original and someone has gone to great lengths to hide the truth." Sean said.
"You want me to locate the original file?" Amanda asked.
"If I'm right this could be a national security issue within the government or something even worse." Sean said making her look at the file one more time.
"I'll help on one condition." Amanda said.
"And that is?" Sean asked.
"Carlton Drake. I want him released and into my custody." Amanda said.
"What? After what he pulled?" Sean asked.
"I'll make sure he's observed carefully. Do we have a deal?" Amanda asked making him sigh.
"Man I know Mike is going to have a fucking fit about this. Fine." Sean said about to leave.
"Just curious though why don't you think I did this?" Amanda asked making him scoff.
"I actually considered it might be you but then a thought occurred to me. You prefer to leave as little evidence behind. A drone strike is more you're thing. So I know it couldn't be you. I know you more than Oliver, Dig and Lyla." Sean said making her smile.
"True enough." Amanda said before he vanished. "I feel sorry for the poor sap who's really responsible for this." Amanda said leaving her office.
Later
"What!" Mike yelled as Drake was released from his cell. "Buddy come on this is a mistake." Mike said.
"Trust me I know. But I need to know who attacked Turok's home and why. This was the only way." Sean said making him sigh.
"Yeah I know." Mike said.
Meanwhile
Oliver, Dig and Dinah walked into the Police station when they saw a cop being restrained by some of his own.
"You make me sick pal." Lance said.
"Dad? Whats going on?" Dinah asked.
"Son of a bitch was trying to give a list of every metahuman in the city away to some guy who works for Hager." Lance said.
"The metahumans don't respect human life! They don't deserve to breathe our air!" The cop yelled.
"Get him out of here." Lance said as his men dragged him away.
"You would think this crap would stop with all the good things Metehumans do." Dinah said.
A police van with the former cop in the back drove to a legion facility.
(Insert Prometheus theme from arrow soundtrack)
However suddenly the van stopped.
"The hell?" The ex cop said before roaring was heard and the men driving the van screamed. Tensing up feeling something powerful approaching the doors were flung off revealing someone in a black hoodie before his hands were engulfed in a rainbow of flames.
"Are you a meta human?" The Ex cop asked.
"No."
Suddenly this person was engulfed in more flames before his skin burned off revealing himself to be a Ghost Rider.
"Your one of them! Your a ghost Rider. I haven't done anything wrong! Metehumans are the real monsters! They don't deserve GAH!" The Ex cop yelled as this Ghost Rider grabbed him by the throat.
"You tried to give out the names of Metehumans who have done no wrong and simply wish to live as normal people to a general who would rather dissect and murder them for his own gain. You are GUILTY."
"Who are you!"
"I am...The Rainbow Rider!" The Rainboy Rider said before shoving his fist into his stomach before pulling him in half and then left as if nothing happened.
Authors Note: Oh boy lots of suspense here. Now theres a Rainbow Rider who has every flame of the Ghost Rider. So Amanda wasn't the one who attacked Hope...Who did?
