Just a quick warning before we begin, this chapter is more violent than usual
Alex: The Legend of Dratini!
"So your aunt's also a ninja?" Misty asks Janine
"Yeah aunt Aya's great. She's currently travelling though. Last time I heard from her she was in the Unova region." Janine says
Brock is daydreaming. Alex jabs him in the ribs, "What are you thinking about Brock?"
"If Janine's aunt is just as beautiful as her." Brock comments
Alex shakes his head
"Are we almost there?" Ash asks
They stop in front of a building, "Yep. This is the entrance to the Safari Zone." Janine notices a sign on the door, she leans closer to read it, "Closed?"
"It's closed?" Ash asks disappointed
Pikachu
"No that's not right." Janine says. She pushes the doors open. The man sitting at the front desk jumps in shock
"What the hell! Didn't you read the sign?" He asks angrily. He notices Alex behind Janine and his eyes widen, (It's that kid!)
"I did read the sign and I want to know why the Safari Zone's closed?" Janine asks
"Warden's orders. Nobody's allowed in." The man replies
"That's ridiculous. My father's the Fuchsia City gym leader, if the Safari Zone had to close the Warden would have told him." Janine says
The man gulps, "Look I just work here."
Alex looks at him confused, "You look familiar. Have we met before?"
The man's face pales, "No I don't think so. My name's Ted."
"I've never seen you before Ted." Janine says
"That's cause I'm new." Ted replies nervously
"Well then I'm Janine daughter of the Fuchsia City gym leader and therefore your superior." Janine tells him
"I-uh-" Ted stammers
"My friends want to visit the Safari Zone. So give them some Safari Balls and let them through."
"Ofcourse miss. I'm very sorry." Ted replies
Ted hands everyone thirty Safari Balls each, "You are not allowed to use your own Pokemon to battle the wild Pokemon and you can only throw these Poke Balls. If you run out then that's it."
Everyone looks over the Safari Ball, instead of being painted red on the top like a normal Poke Ball, the Safari Ball is painted in shades of green, brown, and beige to make a camo pattern
"How come we can only use these types of Poke Balls?" Misty asks
"To keep reckless trainers from taking all the Pokemon." Ted replies annoyed
Janine leads everyone into the Safari Zone. Ted sighs and pulls out a walkie-talkie, "Hey boss we have trouble."
"Alright you guys have fun. I need to visit the Warden's house." Janine says
"Ok we'll see you later Janine." Ash says
Janine heads off by herself. Everyone else looks at the area. There is nature all around them
"I have no clue where to start." Ash says
"How about we head that way first." Brock suggests
Meanwhile in the deepest part of the Safari Zone, a single wooden house stands amongst the foliage. Inside Warden Baoba has been tied up and gagged. Some Team Rocket grunts are thrashing his house while Andrew watches on
"Anything?" He asks
"No sir." One of the grunts replies
"If I may sir this would be a lot easier if we had more men. We could have them searching every corner of the Safari Zone in no time." Another grunt speaks out
"Boss' orders. Only a small group." Andrew replies
"This might take days you know." The grunt complains
"Then quit whining and get to work. We need to find that Dratini." Andrew says annoyed
"Boss check this out!" One of the grunts shows Andrew a framed photo. It shows a young man kneeling next to a young Dratini. Andrew smirks and shows the picture to Baoba
"Is this you?" He asks
Baoba shakes his head
"You're lying. So there was a Dratini here at some point." Andrew cracks his knuckles, "Now you'll just tell me where it's gone too."
A herd of Tauros are stampeding around the area. The Pokegang are watching them
"What are those?" Ash asks
"Tauros. They apparently have a reputation for being hard to catch." Brock says
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans one
Tauros the Wild Bull Pokemon. A Normal type. When it targets an enemy, it charges furiously while whipping its body with its long tails. Tauros do not have any known evolutions. Tauros are Male
Ash and Brock both pull out a Safari Ball. They toss them and each hit a Tauros.
wiggle wiggle wiggle ping
"Alright!" They high five each other
"That's one down! What to catch next?" Ash looks around excited. He sees a Rhyhorn nearby grazing on some grass so he scans it
Rhyhorn the Spikes Pokemon. A Ground/Rock type. It is inept at turning because of its four short legs. It can only charge and run in one direction. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon. This Rhyhorn is Male
Ash raises his Safari Ball and throws it. Suddenly the Tauros herd run past and the Safari Ball hits one of them
"Ahhh!" Ash yells
The Tauros is sucked into the Safari Ball
wiggle wiggle wiggle ping
"Another Tauros?"
Alex tosses his Safari Ball and hits the Rhyhorn
wiggle wiggle wiggle ping
"Yes!" Alex pumps his fist
"Not fair Alex! I saw it first!" Ash shouts
"Hey you blew your shot." Alex replies
Andrew has been beating the crap out of Baoba. His nose been broken and his face is covered in blood
"You're tough old man." Andrew says as he wipes some blood off his knuckles, "But I'll get you to speak eventually."
"I told you already...that...Dratini...is...gone..." Baoba pants out
"Yet for some reason I don't believe you." Andrew replies
"Boss look what we found!" One of the grunts rushes in holding an egg. Baoba's eyes widen when he sees the egg
"Hmm." Andrew inspects the egg, "The markings on this egg resemble a Dratini's skin. A surprising coincidence I wager."
He places the egg inside of an incubator, "Now we just have to find the parent and we'll have two Dratini."
The Pokegang are currently fishing
"I can't believe I've caught ten Tauros." Ash groans
"At least you're catching something." Misty says annoyed
"Yeah I've gone through twenty Safari Balls already and the only thing I got was Rhyhorn." Alex moans
"Are you sure there's fish here?" Ash asks, "Nothing seems to be biting."
"There are definitely fish here. They just don't seem to want to bite today." Brock replies
"Alright enough's enough! I'm pulling out my secret weapon!" Misty yells
Everyone looks at her confused, "What secret weapon?" Ash asks
Misty digs in her bag and pulls out a box of lures. She digs through it and grabs, "This is my super special Misty lure!"
She shows off her lure to her friends. It's a chibi model of herself
"What's so special about it?" Ash asks
"It's special because it's me!" Misty yells
"I don't understand how that's gonna change anything." Ash says
Misty growls, "Just watch."
Misty attaches her Misty Special to her rod and then tosses it into the water
"Any second now." Misty says determined
"Nothing's happening Misty." Ash says
"You have to be patient!" She yells
Something bites onto her line
"I got something!" She yells
She starts trying to reel it in but whatever it is, it's fighting hard
"It's so strong! It must be something good!" Misty is struggling, "Guys help!"
Everyone grabs on and helps pull on the fishing rod. A Gyarados surfaces
Rarrrrrr!
"Gyarados!" Misty, Ash and Brock yell
Pikachu!
The four of them take off running. Alex pulls a Safari Ball and prepares to throw it when Misty and Brock suddenly grab him and drag him away
"No! I wanted another one!"
"I told you it would work!" Misty yells at Ash
"I'm sorry alright!" Ash yells back. He suddenly runs right into a Tauros
"Owww!" His Safari Ball goes flying and hits the Tauros
wiggle wiggle ping
"Not another one!"
Baoba has passed out from the beating. He is awakened by the feeling of someone undoing his restraints
"Wha.."
"Shh." Janine says softly, "It's me. I'm gonna get you out of here."
"Janine...no...they know..."
A blast of sludge suddenly flies towards Janine. She leaps out of the way avoiding it and turns to face her attacker
Andrew is standing at the entrance with a shiny Muk, "Hello."
Janine watches him cautiously, "Team Rocket huh. I shouldn't be surprised."
Andrew chuckles, "My subordinate warned me that some kids were snooping around. I figured you'd come here eventually."
Janine slowly reaches behind her, "Why are you doing this?"
"A zone full of rare Pokemon? Why wouldn't we want those?" Andrew asks, "But we're only after one Pokemon specifically. Dratini."
"Well you're wasting your time. A Dratini hasn't been seen here in years." Janine replies as she slowly reaches for a throwing star
"That's what you all keep telling me and yet I still don't believe you." Andrew says, "I'm going to find that Dratini. Even if I have to rip this park upside down to do so."
Janine suddenly tosses her throwing stars towards Andrew. His Muk stretches up taking the hit. The stars bounce off it uselessly
"Nice try." Andrew says, "Men grab her"
Two grunts leap out of their hiding spots behind Janine. She ducks avoiding them and hops back to her feet. One rushes at her but she kicks him back into his friend knocking them both to the ground. Andrew suddenly grabs onto her from behind. She tries to break free but he's too strong
"The warden wouldn't talk no matter how hard I hit, but maybe I was just using the wrong motivator." Andrew says in a threatening tone
"I...think...we got away." Misty pants
"Yeah...no...kidding." Alex replies
"Hey guys look over there." Brock points at a herd of Kangaskhan
Pikachu looks over at the Kangaskhan hesitantly
"Wow so many Kangaskhan." Ash says amazed. He pulls out his pokedex to scan them
Kangaskhan the Parent Pokemon. A Normal type. It raises its offspring in its belly pouch. It lets the baby out to play only when it feels safe.
Pikachu looks away from the Kangaskhan sadly
Pikachu...
"Look at all the cute baby Kangaskhan." Misty points at the babies who are resting in their mothers' pouches
"Hey what's that?" Alex points at something strange
They look closer and see a human child inside one of the Kangaskhan's pouches
"You see the kid too right?" Brock asks
"Yep." Ash replies
"Should we do something?" Misty asks
"I'd rather not pick a fight with an entire herd" Alex says nervously
"I guess we could tell Officer Jenny once we leave." Brock suggests
"Yeah let's do that." They turn to leave
Ash suddenly spins around and throws a Safari Ball...which hits a Tauros running past, "You can't be serious!"
Janine cries out in pain as Andrew punches her. Baoba is watching the whole thing horrified
"Just tell me where the Dratini is and this will all stop." Andrew stops
"Don't tell him anything!" Janine yells, "I can-ahhhh!"
Andrew has punched her again. He prepares another shot
"STOP!" Baoba yells, "I'll...I'll tell you...just please stop..."
Andrew smirks, "Good man. Now where is the Dratini?"
Baoba takes some deep breaths, "She's...living at the bottom...bottom of the lake..."
"Hmm that would have been my last guess." Andrew says
"You...you won't get her though...even I don't know...where..."
"I have ways of drawing her out." Andrew walks over to one of his men, "Prepare the bomb. Drop it in the middle of the lake."
The man nods
"Oh and tell the men to be on the lookout for those other brats. I don't want them interfering with my plans."
"I can't believe it. 30 Safari Balls and all I caught were Tauros." Ash groans
Alex, Misty and Brock just glare at him
"What?" Ash asks
"ATLEAST YOU CAUGHT SOMETHING!" They yell
A net suddenly falls on them trapping them
"I can't move!" Ash yells
"What's going on!" Misty yells
Pika!
"So we meet again." Ted approaches them, he is flanked by some Team Rocket grunts
"It's Team Rocket!" Ash yells
"Yeah the dangerous ones." Alex says
"You brats are going to pay for the shame you brought on me." Ted says angrily
"Shame? Who even are you?" Alex asks confused
"You've forgotten!" Ted yells angrily, "You stole my Hypno!"
Alex stares at him confused, "Doesn't ring any bells."
"RARRRR!"
"Calm down Ted." One of the grunts says, "We got them alright."
"Oh yeah! Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash yells
Pikachu fires the Thunderbolt...which bounces off the net and electrocutes all of them
"Ahhhhhhhhh!"
"Did you think we were stupid? We obviously electric-proofed the net." Ted says, "You brats aren't going anywhere."
Andrew is standing near the lake. He watches as two grunts dump a bomb into it
"Soon Dratini you will be mine."
Janine has been fiddling with her restraints. She manages to slip her hands free. She glances at the Grunt assigned to watch over her. He hasn't noticed anything yet. She slowly sneaks up behind him and knocks him out. She then rushes over to Baoba
"Leave...me...you have to warn..." Baoba says painfully
"Don't worry I already sent for help." Janine says as she works on untying Baoba. She slips the ropes off, "Now come on. We have to find my friends and stop that bomb."
"Is Hypno with you?" Ted asks
"Why do you care?" Alex asks
"It's my Pokemon!" Ted yells
"Yeah a Pokemon you mistreated. Hypno was happy to come with me." Alex replies
Ted scoffs
"Do you have it yet?" Brock whispers to Ash
"I'm trying, but it's really difficult to move." Ash whispers back
He is trying to reach Brock's poke balls. He manages to grab one
"I got it." Ash whispers
"Alright just press the release mechanism." Brock says
Ash presses the button on the Poke ball and Onix suddenly emerges ripping the net off
"What!" Ted yells shocked
"Onix attack!" Brock yells
Onix swings it's tail around knocking into the grunts. Ted makes a run for it
"Hypno go!" Alex yells
Hypno pops out and uses Psychic to stop Ted in his tracks
"Ah! Let me go!" Ted yells
Hypno drags Ted back towards them
"So do you care to explain what's going on?" Alex asks
Andrew glances at the watch on his wrist, "Just a few more minutes."
"Boss we have company!" One of the grunts points ahead. Janine and Baoba rush over
"So you managed to escape. Well it's too late. The bomb's already in the lake." Andrew says smugly
"No!" Baoba yells
Janine tosses a poke ball, "Venonat go!"
Venonat
Andrew scoffs at her, "Take care of her."
The grunts toss out all their Pokemon. Venonat is surrounded
"This will be easy." One of the grunts says
A Thunderbolt suddenly strikes the grunt's Pokemon
"Ahhh!"
Ash, Alex, Misty, Brock and Pikachu rush over
"Janine!" Brock yells
"I'm so glad you guys are alright!" Janine yells
Andrew growls, "So you're the brats Ted told me about."
"We won't let you take Dratini!" Ash yells
"You actually think you can stop me?" Andrew asks, "You're a bunch of kids. I'm an elite member of Team Rocket!"
"We're going to try!" Ash yells
They toss out their Pokemon who prepare to battle
Andrew tosses his Ultra Ball and his Shiny Muk pops out
Muk!
"Attack!" Team Rocket's Pokemon rush at the other Pokemon and they start battling.
Baoba glances at the lake concerned, (Team Rocket doesn't need to win. They just need to hold us off until that bomb goes off.)
Everyone is so caught up in the battle that no one is paying attention to the lake. Baoba takes a deep breath, (I'll save you old friend.)
Baoba rushes towards the lake, Janine glances over and see this "Baoba what are you doing!"
Baoba dives into the lake
"Baoba no!" Janine yells
Andrew looks over confused, "Stupid old man. He's just sealed his fate."
"We have to save him!" Janine yells
"Squirtle dive into the water!" Ash yells
Squirtle rushes towards the lake but Muk suddenly knocks him out
"Ah Squirtle!" Ash yells
"Absolutely not." Andrew smirks, "You're not getting past me."
The other Pokemon are too occupied with Team Rocket to do anything.
"We need to do something." Janine says concerned
"I know! I'm just not sure what." Ash says
Zubat!
Golbat!
A Zubat and a small Golbat fly past dropping smoke bombs
"What the hell!" Andrew yells as his vision is obscured
He hears some smacking sounds and moans of pain. When the smoke clears he sees all his men have been knocked out
"What happened!" Andrew yells shocked
"I happened." Andrew hears a voice behind him. He turns and sees Koga
"Father!" Janine yells
Andrew tries to punch Koga but he easily dodges the attack
"Your Zubat arrived at the academy and told my Golbat everything." Koga explains to Janine
Andrew tries to tackle him but Koga leaps over him
"I knew something was wrong and so I rushed out here immediately."
Andrew tries to elbow Koga but he blocks his strikes. He then strikes him in the chest using his palm. Andrew is knocked back by the force of the blow and falls to the ground
"You harmed my friend and daughter. You will pay for that." Koga says coldly
"Father look out!" Janine yells
Koga jumps to the side avoiding Muk's attack, "Go Venomoth use Sleep Powder!"
Venomoth pops out and uses the Sleep Powder putting Muk to sleep
"It's over."
Andrew laughs, "Not so fast. I still have the bomb. It's going to blow any second now and take that warden with it."
Alex looks around and notices Ash is gone, "Ash! Has anyone seen Ash!"
Ash is swimming downwards. He took advantage of the smoke bombs to dive into the lake. He sees Baoba has passed out ahead of him. He grabs him and tries to shake him awake
(What am I going to do?)
Staryu suddenly swims towards him
(Staryu!)
Ash hands Baoba to Staryu and points at the surface
Hi-ya!
Staryu starts dragging Baoba to the surface. Ash dives deeper
(I need to find that bomb!)
Staryu surfaces with Baoba
"Staryu where's Ash!" Misty shouts concerned
Staryu shakes it's head
"He must have gone for the bomb!" Brock yells
"Staryu go back and help!"
"It's too late!" Andrew yells
Ash has found the bomb which only has a minute left. He grabs it and starts swimming back towards the surface. He finds himself struggling to move
(Just a little longer)
He tries to kick but he can't move his legs
(No...no...)
He passes out and sinks back downwards. A shadowy figure approaches him cautiously
A storm rolls in. Everyone stares at the lake anxiously
"Come on Ash." Alex mutters to himself
Pikapi...
"Ten nine eight." Andrew is counting down
A whirlpool forms in the middle of the lake
"What's going on with the lake!" Brock yells
Baoba stares at the lake, "Could it be..."
A beam of energy bursts out from the middle of the lake. The bomb is blown into the air and explodes harmlessly
"What! How!" Andrew screams
A Dragonair bursts from the lake with Ash passed out on it's back.
"Dragonair." Baoba says relieved
The storm has stopped as quickly as it began
"It's Ash!" Misty yells
Pikapi!
Dragonair places Ash on the ground gently. Everyone crowds around him
"He's alright." Koga says causing his friends to sigh in relief
"He's going to be so upset when he realizes he slept through this." Brock says
Baoba approaches Dragonair, "Hello old friend."
He stretches his hand towards Dragonair who rubs her face against it
"It's majestic." Andrew says. He slowly starts sneaking backwards
"It's so beautiful." Misty says
Alex pulls out his Pokedex and scans it
Dragonair the Dragon Pokemon. A Dragon type. A mystical Pokémon that exudes a gentle aura. It is said to have the ability to change the weather. Dragonair is the evolved form of Dratini and evolves into Dragonite. This Dragonair is Female
Koga turns and sees Andrew backing away, "Stop right there!"
Andrew raises his hands, "Fine I surrender."
He suddenly jumps into the air and a Shiny Fearow swoops down grabbing him. He flies off on it.
"Damn it. He got away." Janine says disappointed
Koga notices Andrew's Muk has been left behind
Ash is resting in a bed. Everyone else is crowded around the room
"I have informed the Pokemon G-Men of what happened here." Koga explains, "They will be on the lookout for that Rocket agent."
Baoba nods gratefully
"I'm just glad we're all ok." Brock says
"Yeah things could have ended badly." Misty agrees
Alex glances over at Ash
"Come Baoba you and Janine need medical attention." Koga says
"I'll come later. I want to wait for the boy to wake up first." Baoba says
"Alright." Koga says. Him and Janine leave
Ash stirs, "Hmm what happened?"
Pikapi!
Pikachu hugs him
"Oh hey Pikachu." Ash says groggily
"We're glad you're alright." Brock says
"You saved my life." Baoba tells Ash
"It was nothing." Ash replies
"I would still like to show you my gratitude." Baoba turns and digs in a cupboard
"No really that's not necessary." Ash says
Baoba turns and presents to Ash the Dratini egg, "This egg was laid by the very Dragonair that saved your life. I would like you to take care of it."
Ash stares at the egg amazed. He takes it from Baoba stunned, "I...thank you."
"Thank you." Baoba turns and leaves
"Look at that. You did get something other than Tauros." Misty says teasingly
"Yeah I guess I did." Ash says still stunned
Everyone is crowded around the videophone
"Thank goodness you're all unharmed." Professor Oak says
"Yeah it was a close call." Ash says
"Too close." Alex mumbles to himself
"Well on the bright side you managed to capture an impressive amount of Pokemon Ash." Professor Oak, "I'm letting them all out now."
Ash's eyes widen, "Uh Professor maybe you shouldn't-"
All thirty of Ash's Tauros charge past crushing Professor Oak in the process
"Ugh...Krabby help..." Professor Oak groans

Me: Done. So Andrew has failed once again. I doubt Giovanni's going to be happy about that
Ash: Wait when did he fail last time?
Alex: We need to talk about you almost dying constantly
Ash: What do you mean? This is all fictional right? None of this actually happened
Alex: That's not the point!
Me: A bit of a head's up for the next couple of chapters. We've reached the point now when there's that massive gap before Ash gets to Cinnabar Island, specifically the fact that there's quite a few filler and "side mission" episodes. I'm obviously not going to do every episode only important ones and the filler episodes I enjoyed but it's still quite a gap, and that's not including any tournament chapters I add in. Because of this a lot of the next chapters will generally be shorter than the average length. I might do a few episodes together but only if there's a link, I don't want to just cram episodes together to trim the amount of chapters
