"Who are you?" London asked. I was a bit surprised by that statement. My relationship with London couldn't have changed that much since I still knew Maddie which meant that London would also had to know who I was.
"You don't know me?" I asked in surprise. She wasn't self-absorbed to the point where she didn't remember people names, was she? "Zoey Martin? I've been living here for years."
"I've never met you. I know a Zack Martin." London replied. Okay, that was surprising. Somehow, London knew about my old life, but I didn't have any way of finding out how. Well, I supposed that I could ask her.
"Would you believe that I was Zack and someone turned me into a girl?" I inquired. It was a shot in the dark, but if she knew that I had been a boy, she had to know more than she let on.
"You mean with magic? There are others around?" She asked. What did she mean others? "Why don't you tell me what happened."
I gave her a quick recap of what happened: how I had been turned into a girl, how my dad was still around. I also decided to tell her that I had won prom queen.
"So what I wanna know is why you remember me but no one else who wasn't there does?" I explained. There had to be an explanation for it.
"Well that would probably have to do with the fact that I'm a wizard." London explained. What now? That was not the explanation that I was expecting. "Reality altering spells don't affect the minds of those who are there to witness them nor do they magic users."
"So, if you're a wizard, can you change me back?" I replied. I didn't think that I wanted her to do it immediately, but it would still be good to know that she could.
"Unfortunately, I can't. These kinds of spells can only be undone by the person that casts them but there is also another issue. Unless the spell was cast perfectly there is a high chance that it might have affected this Athena." She told me. What did she mean by that? It also gave me a bit of closure. I was only going to turn back if I found Athena again and I had no way of knowing where she was. Luckily, I was at a point where I was happy. I could live with being stuck as a girl.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean she would be turned into a different person in a different place with no memory of ever casting the spell and possibly no magic." The Asian girl explained. "So I would say that there is a high probability that you're stuck like this. So why don't you tell me exactly what has changed?"
"Well for starters my parents never divorced. I'm also a cheerleader and a really good singer with videos on Youtube." I reiterated. I decided that I would not tell her that I had more subscribers than her because I did not want to make another wizard angry.
"It sounds like the life you have now is better than the old one." She noted. "Even if I could change you back, would you even want me to?"
"I don't know." I admitted. "Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem smarter than normal."
"I am smart." London stated. "I just play dumb to protect my secret and I expect you to do the same."
"Can I at least tell Cody and Max that you know?" I requested. I didn't want to keep secrets from the two of them.
"If you must." She replied. "Now, I'm going to bed."
London looked around the lobby. She seemed to be looking to see if anyone else was there. Once she determined that me and the unconscious bellhop were the only ones there, she and all of her bags disappeared. I wondered if I should do something for him, but I decided that it would be best to just leave him alone.
Yeah, she was a wizard. I didn't know how it was possible and I definitely wouldn't have expected her, but I believed it. I then went back to my room where everyone else was asleep. I went to bedroom and put on the garment that I had bought yesterday. I wanted to see how it would feel to sleep in it. It felt really soft. I still didn't want my mom or dad or even Cody to know that I had it. I then started to wash off my makeup.
Bailey was supposed to be sleeping on the couch until we got the futon. However, she wasn't on the couch, so I figured she had probably snuck into Cody's room. I never expected them to be so sexual. I just hoped that they were using protection.
On Tuesday, after cheer practice, Max and I drove into work. We then both put our skates and waited for orders to come in. Max and I both went out to serve some cars, and I couldn't help but notice that Max's car was right next to the one that I was going to. I managed to eavesdrop on the conversation she was having with the customer.
"Okay that will be $5.67" Max told him as he reached out to hand me his money while she reached out to hand him his drink. Unfortunately., the exchange didn't quite as planned as the drink fell over and spilled on her pants. Though, she did at least manage to hang onto the food.
"Sorry." He apologized as he stepped out of the car and grabbed his food while Max tried to dry off. That was when I realized just who it was. What was he doing in Boston?
"Wait a minute, aren't you former singing sensation Lil' Little?" Max inquired.
"I am." Marcus responded. "But that was the past and I don't like to talk about that? You can call me Marcus. I feel terrible about spilling that. Would it be okay if I take you out on a date sometime? If you have a boyfriend, that's completely cool with me. Just throwing it out there."
Okay, Marcus and Max was not a pairing that I thought would ever happen? Also, I was surprised by how much game he had considering he was usually terrible with women.
"Yeah I think I can do something like that." Max replied. Okay, I also was not expecting her to say yes. Why did she say yes? I then realized that I needed to get back inside.
I probably didn't need to because it was a bit of a slow night, but the managers didn't like when we loitered in the parking lot. I probably also shouldn't let Max know that I was eavesdropping either because it was kind of rude.
"What took so long?" I asked. I hoped that it was convincing.
"There was a little drink spillage." She answered. "Then we talked for a few minutes. He gave me tickets to go the Pearl Jam concert on Monday and said you and James can come too.
She then showed off a pair of tickets to the show and I couldn't believe it. I loved Pearl Jam. They were one of my favorite bands. I didn't want to tell my dad, but I probably liked their music even more than his. I did still really like my dad's music. I did the only thing that I could think of and gave her a tight hug.
"Zoey, not a good idea." She interrupted. Did she really have a problem with me hugging her? Kissing her I could understand, but hugging her? "Give me a few days before you try something like that again."
"Right, sorry." I responded. It was then that I realized there was another order that I needed to take out. "I need to call James later."
On Monday, I was preparing for the concert. It was also going to be the first time that James and Max had met. In retrospect, I probably should have introduced them to each other, but we really didn't even see each other at school since we were in different social circles. I was wearing a black dress that I hoped would be appropriate for the concert.
"James, this is Max, my best friend." I introduced.
"Hi." She greeted him. She looked a little nervous but she still shook his hand. "So the limo's ready, why don't we all we get going."
I watched her sit across from the two of us. I felt a little weird going on a double date with her. Maybe it was because I heard that double dates were always awkward. I was still surprised that she had chosen to go out with Marcus. He didn't seem like her type. Of course, I didn't know what her type was, but he just didn't seem like it.
We all arrived at the Garden right a few hours before the show started. Marcus had gotten us VIP tickets so we got to meet the band. One thing that I was quick to figure out what that Marcus and I had never met. However, was more surprising was the fact that Eddie Vedder seemed to be walking towards me.
"Hey, you're Zoey, right?" I asked.
"Y…yeah." I stammered. I was a bit starstruck at the moment. "How do you know my name?"
"Well I did play with your father before, but don't tell him that's not how I know you." He explained. "The truth is my niece loves your videos. Can I talk to you in private?"
We went back to his dressing room. I was pretty sure that I could trust him.
"So I was wondering if maybe you wanted to come on stage and sing a song with me." He asked.
"Really?' I replied. I would do it. At least I hoped that I would be able to do it. He nodded. It was then I realized something. "Not to be rude, but why?"
"Like I said that, my niece loves your music and I want to be able to tell her that I got to sing with her favorite singer." He explained. "Is there anything in particular that you would want to do?"
"I really like 'Just Breathe'." I told him.
Of course, I wasn't going to be backstage all night. I would hang out in the crowd. Max and I did this some crowd surfing, but I didn't stop in front of the stage. I went onto the stage where I was given a microphone.
"I want to introduce you all to a new friend I made." He replied. I was definitely feeling nervous with everyone looking at me. "Some of you may already know her, but for those of you who don't: this is Zoey Martin! Let's me hear welcome her to the stage."
It was surreal hearing thousands of people cheer for me.
"This next one is called 'Just Breathe'." He continued before we started to sing.
Yes I understand that every life must end, aw huh...
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw huh...
I'm a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love...
Some folks just have one
Others they got none, aw huh...
Stay with me
Let's just breathe
Practiced are my sins
Never gonna let me win, aw huh...
Under everything, just another human being, aw huh...
Yea, I don't wanna hurt, there's so much in this world
To make me bleed
Stay with me
You're all I see
The feeling of being on stage was euphoric. I could see why Dad liked it so much. I didn't know if or when I wanted to become an artist, but I could definitely get used to it. I couldn't believe that had just happened. I also felt thirsty. I needed a drink of water. Fortunately, someone had one for me.
I was also a little bit tired. I ended up falling asleep in the limo. Max said that she was going to hang out with Marcus some. It seemed kind of late for them to do that, but maybe she wanted some alone time with him. Perhaps she wanted to see how things would go.
However, because of my nap on the way back, I really wasn't that tired when I got home. I went to the suite, and I felt like I needed to record something. I wanted to make a new video.
"Hey Z-Squad. It's pretty late but I have some really exciting news. I just got back from the Pearl Jam concert. It was awesome but the best part was that Eddie asked me to sing with him. He told me that his niece loves my channel. So I guess thanks Molly for being such a good fan and your uncle was really nice. Unfortunately, I don't have footage of this and I won't be posting it. So I'll have some more covers out soon. I just wanted to share this quick update." I explained before I turned off the camera.
I then went to post the video. I wondered if there would be any video of me at the concert. I knew that you were not supposed to film at the concert, but they couldn't really stop people from doing it. After my video finished uploading, I noticed that someone had uploaded a video of the song. I could have reported it, but I actually wanted to see it. I even thought about leaving a comment, but I decided not to. Whoever had recorded it had a camera with pretty good sound quality. I sounded really good.
I thought about trying to call James, but he might have gone to bed. I knew that I should probably also go to bed, but I was so excited.
In the morning, I walked into the kitchen. I knew that I needed to talk to my parents about it.
"How was the concert?" Mom asked.
"I got to go on stage. I was literally on stage singing with Eddie and the band." I replied.
"That sounds awesome. How is Eddie? I haven't talked to him in years." Dad remarked.
"He seemed good but I really didn't get into his personal life." I admitted.
"So how did being on stage feel?" He asked me.
"It was a little bit scary but also really thrilling." I explained. "I think I want to be a performer."
They both looked surprised by that.
"Your mom and I think that it would probably be best for you to finish school and then we can talk some more about that." Dad replied.
So London didn't know Zoey because she's a wizard and she had some bad news for Zoey. Also, Marcus appeared and he's going to be dating Max. Please don't forget to review.
