"Prepare to have your face rearranged, pal" Cuphead said when he was in the living room, covering his eyes with a blindfold. Mugman stood across from him who also had a blindfold over his eyes. "You're messing with the wrong mug, buddy," he said, pulling the blindfold over his eyes as well. Neither of them could see anything that was in front of them. But that hardly bothered the two.
No, they both had a pillow in their hands. The two wanted to play a pillow fight blindfolded. "Three..." said Cuphead "Two..." said Mugman "One, go!" both screamed and ran towards each other with pillows raised. Well not quite. Both rather ran past each other and beat wildly with the pillow. Cuphead hit his pillow several times on the sofa while Mugman spun his in circles. "Take this! And that! And some more..." both continued to fight while Elder Kettle tended to his plants, not hearing the noise in the cottage.
Not even the sound of shards made him return to the house. No, his plants were more important to him. "Take that! Take that! Take that!" they both ran at each other again while flinging their pillows back and forth until they heard the sound of shards. "Uh-oh" they both said at the same time as they stopped hitting the pillow. "What was that?" asked Mugman in wonder and slight fear. Both immediately removed the blindfold to search for the cause of the noise. Cuphead quickly found this out when he looked at his brother and his pupils became smaller with fear. "Ooh!" heard Mugman who turned to his brother in confusion. "What is it?" he asked and you could see what was wrong. The handle was missing from Mugman's head and had broken off.
Cuphead's eyes therefore wandered from his brother, who was still waiting for an answer, to the broken handle lying on the ground behind his brother. He knew his brother was waiting for an answer, "Uh..." he thought about what to say so his brother wouldn't panic. "Nothing, at all. Nothing. Why? What? Why?" Cuphead said nervously as he sweated. Mugman's facial expression didn't make it any better as he realized something was wrong. And from the look on his brother's face, it was something very bad, "Oh, it's something," so he walked over to the wall mirror and looked at himself in the mirror.
"Hmm..." he saw nothing that should be bad. His teeth were still fine, as was his nose. So what could it be? Well his question was quickly answered when he turned his head sideways and only now saw the broken handle to which his startled eyes wandered. This was lying on the floor behind him. Panic-stricken, he ran back and forth in the living room while Cuphead didn't know what to do. Mugman was panicking and Elder Kettle could come in at any moment. Knowing he was in a bad situation, Cuphead's curiosity got the better of him as he picked up the handle to try something, "Can you feel this?" He touched the broken part with his fingers, causing Mugman to stop abruptly.
Suddenly, however, he had to start laughing hysterically as Cuphead tickled the handle with his fingers. That went to him but on the cookie after a while, which is why he stood up and took the handle from his brother's hand. "Hey! Give me that!" he said annoyed and now looked shocked and with a hysterical stutter on this. "Buddy, relax. We'll handle it" Cuphead said to reassure his brother, who was anything but pleased that his brother was now adding this pun to cheer him up. It was the wrong word at the wrong time, you might say. He realized this himself when his brother told him "Seriously now?" facial expression.
"I mean, take care of it" so Cuphead took the handle to himself licked with his tongue over the spots, turning his brother around so that he can attach the handle without problems "Easy as pie. See?" and had solved the problem. The two believed that but the handle did not stay on but slid down on the floor to which the two looked. Mugman got scared again but quickly calmed down. "Boy, that never gets easier" he wiped away his sweat. But Cuphead did not think of giving up. No he wanted to try something else. "Don't worry just yet" he said, holding a piece of scotch tape in his hands. With these he tried to stick the handle firmly. But unfortunately he stuck the strips all over his brother's face.
He could just barely speak because the tape almost covered his mouth. "How do I look?" he asked. "Good as new," but the handle didn't stay on for long and fell off, which didn't please Cuphead very much. But he didn't give up and got an idea. So he ran out of the house and came back with a beehive in his hands. He waved the bees away with his hand before dipping both ends of the handle into the honey and sticking it to his brother's head. "And Voilá!" "Thanks, Cuphead" the handle stayed on. Both shook their hands and were satisfied.
Only one was not. A black bear that bent over the two brothers and growled menacingly. Both screamed in fear as the bear chased them in circles. One heard from outside blows and cries of pain. The bear opened the door and held the hive under his arm and went into the forest, annoyed. Both brothers lay on the floor groaning. Mugman again held his broken handle in his hand. "If only Iris were here she could fix your handle without any problems" said Cuphead as he thought about how else they could fix the handle. But the only answer he got was a quiet sob from his brother. He was lying face down on the floor, still holding his handle tightly in his hands.
This confuses Cuphead a bit "I know iris can fix it with her magic!" he stood up and looked with a slightly nervous smile in front of his brother who was still crying. "We could call Iris," he suggested, but Mugman just shook his head as he looked at his brother with tears in his eyes and a snuffy nose. "We can't..." he continued crying "She is busy with Miss Dora today!" yes Cuphead remembered again what Iris had told them two days ago."Oh dang it! Your right" he ruminated further "I wonder what they were doing again today?".
Meanwhile, at the Sparks' house. Iris was standing in the hallway getting ready for her day today. "Today you're ready to find your familiar" said Dora while on her shoulder lay Miss Meow Meow. Iris was very pleased because she had always wanted to have a familiar. Almost every witch and wizard have a familiar animal that accompanies them on their journey. How this looked was different for each. Whether a normal animal or mythical creatures. Each was unique and indistinguishable from the others.
"Got your wand? Bag?, Water?, money?" But the search for this was always very difficult. Therefore, Dora had asked her granddaughter to pack only everything necessary that she needed on her trip. Of course, this annoyed Iris a bit because she felt like a little child. "Yes grandma I got everything" she said slightly annoyed "Your necklace?" Iris was already wearing it around her neck "Yes, Grandma I have it on".
Iris knew how important the necklace was. It protected her not only from dark magic but also from the devil should he try to kidnap her. Dora exhaled in relief before continuing to speak "Good, now remember finding a familiar is not easy. For some it can take days, weeks, months and for some even a whole year" Yes Iris knew that it would not be easy. "Grandma?" Dora saw how worried Iris looked. "How do I know if I found my familiar?" She had to go outside alone. Dora was not allowed to help her and neither were the two brothers. Iris had to be alone. "You know when you find your familiar is when you make a connection" Yes Iris remembered again. She had to make a connection with an animal. Only then would the animal turn into a familiar.
"Now witches and wizards of the Inkwell Isles used to wonder around the isles till they find a connection with a magical or non Magical animal but today most might find they're familiar at a pet shop" some of Iris' classmates who have familiar animals got them from a pet shop. Mostly cats, dogs or rodents. "Today I want you to wander around and see if you find your familiar and give it a few days if today is not successful" but suddenly thoughts began to spread in Iris's head. What if she doesn't find a familiar animal? Would she then no longer become a good witch? Would she disappoint her family? You could see that Iris was deep in thought. "What is it Iris? What are you worried about?" Iris, who was pulled out of her thoughts, noticed a hand on her shoulder and looked at her grandmother, hoping for an answer. Iris knew she couldn't hide everything from her grandmother, so she said, "What if I don't find my Familiar?".
Dora already thought that Iris would worry about it. "Don't worry dear you will and if not then we could look at the isles magic night market" Iris smiled and was more encouraged than before. "Just do your best Iris" both hugged once more before Iris left the house with her things and went to find her familiar animal. Dora was still standing in the doorway, waving at her granddaughter while her familiar, Ms. Meow Meow, sat on her shoulder and meowed.
Iris was more than positive. She knew she would not disappoint her grandmother and the rest of her family. "I will" she said and walked deeper into the forest.
Meanwhile, in the underworld.
The devil was sitting on his throne looking through a book but not just any book but a scrapbook full of pictures and newspaper articles about Iris with some hearts around most of her pictures
One about "new amazing singer at The Fly Trap" another one about "young witch save runaway ice cream truck" and another one "good witch help the hungry". Yes Iris very quickly became popular with the inhabitants of the island. "Well well she's certainly making a name for herself" the devil said to himself as he continued to turn the pages.
"Miss goody two shoes witch. With your magic...using it for good...and beauty beyond compare" when he realized what he had said in his last sentence, he shook his head. No, the king of the underworld is not in love. Or is he?
Well actually it wasn't hard to miss. He still had her blue hair ribbon that he had hidden in the book in case any of his Imps saw it. But the thought of seeing Iris with just that hair ribbon made him smile and fall back into thought. He didn't even notice that someone had appeared in the throne room. "Morning Boss" When the devil heard this, his thought bubble disappeared and he looked at Henchman who was standing in front of his throne with a serving trolley on which were a teapot with fresh tea and a teacup with a saucer.
"Oh good Morning Henchman" said the devil as he quickly hid the hair ribbon in the book, which he in turn hid behind his back so that Henchman could not look at it at all. But he didn't have to look inside to see the blushing face of his boss. "What's wrong Boss?" asked Henchman who already suspected what was going on but didn't want to say "I don't know why I can't get that Spark witch out of my mind" with every word his face became even more flushed than before.
You could feel that love was in the air "Boss it's obvious just admit that you have develop feelings for her" Henchman took the teapot and poured the freshly brewed tea into the teacup before taking it to his boss who took the cup "What do you mean Henchmen?" he asked and took a big sip of his tea "You know... that you have a crush... on Iris" the devil's pupils became smaller and his face blushed even more than before as he spat out the tea. "I Do Not Have A Crush!" he said slightly annoyed while his face was still flushed and he put the cup that was now empty on his armrest. His head looked away from Henchman who now had to smile with joy himself.
"Especially on a Spark Witch!" "And what so wrong if it's true?" the devil gave him a "you're serious" facial expression "Things like that just happen Boss no one choose to have a crush, that's just how love work's" he poured tea into the teacup while the devil kept trying to deny it. "I am not in love! Besides how could it possibly work...if it was true?" Henchman shrugged his shoulders "Hypothetically speaking can you see how it would look she's good... I'm bad...she's a Spark and I'm the devil. It won't work" But Henchman knew that his boss was just talking his way out of it, but he still had feelings for the Spark Witch.
Henchman gives him a look "Ah... again I mean hypothetically speaking Henchman if anything I do find her irritatingly charming" he stood up and walked to the wall mirror with a slightly flushed face while Henchman just grinned smugly. "Let's see what our little witch is up to today" he touched the mirror which now no longer showed his reflection but waves "Show me Iris Spark" said the devil and the waves disappeared and showed Iris walking alone in the forest. "She's alone, no cups...Hmm what is she up to?" he asked himself and took his trident which was leaning against the wall next to the mirror "I'll go and find out" he said and raised his trident. But before he could teleport away he heard Henchman.
"Boss are you sure that's a good Idea you just fully healed from the last time you saw Iris" Yes, the devil had taken quite a beating the last time he tried to take Iris with him. "Well it's been a while since I last talk to her Henchman and you know the old saying absent makes the heart grow fonder" his cheeks blushed when he said that "Beside I'm sure now she would be more open minded about joining me and being mine" he realized what he had said last and tried to correct himself. "Ah I mean ours!" he disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving Henchman alone, still looking smug. "wow he really have it bad".
In the forest, Iris looked around for a suitable familiar animal. In her book that she had taken with her, there were all kinds of familiar animals that existed. From the most ordinary to the most unusual. For example, her principal has a snail as a familiar. Of course, Iris wondered what kind of Familiar she will have. "Oh I wonder what kind of a familiar I'll have" maybe a bird like both her parents? a magical horned cat like her grandmother, a phoenix? or a wolf like her one friend at school had?
Iris, who could hardly wait, went further into the forest with vigor. She wanted to know what her Familiar would be. Before she could set foot, however, she suddenly heard someone sobbing. Confused, she looked around until she saw a bear behind a bush. Normally Iris would keep her distance but somehow she felt bad doing that and decided to help him. So she approached him "Ah...hi what's wrong?" she asked him. The bear turned to her and wiped away his tears, showing her with his paw the reason why he was sobbing. "I got a splinter in my right paw! I got it when I got my honey back from two cup kids" Iris already guessed which two he meant.
She wanted to ask why they were stealing honey, but let it go and decided to help the bear. "Here let me help you" she pulled out her wand and removed the splinter. The bear was very happy that it was no longer stuck in his paw. "Wow thanks miss...?" "Iris Spark and I'm glad to help" Iris said proudly helping the bear. "Spark? Oh I heard of your family..what are you doing here in the woods by yourself?" the bear asked her curiously. "I'm looking for a familiar" Iris answered him.
"Oh my mother used to tell me about witches and wizards looking for familiars, my cousin just became a familiar to a witch that's great for her but I prefer living in the woods" explained the bear. Iris very much hoped that he would be her Familiar. But again, she felt no connection with him. "Oh...well I'm glad that I help you but I better get going I still have a chance today to find my familiar" slightly disappointed, she went on but did not give up searching. She really wanted to find a Familiar today.
The bear waved after her "Well good luck with that kid, just be careful and if you ever need help just let me know" Iris nodded and smiled at the bear "Sure...bye" she waved at him as well before walking on and out of sight. The bear walked on with the hive under his arm and whistled happily. But unnoticed by the two, the devil had heard and seen everything as he hid behind a tree. "So she's looking for her familiar" the devil knew that would not mean anything good. "I can't let that happen!" he knew that she would never be alone with a Familiar. That bothered him. So he decided to do something about it.
Iris was enjoying the beautiful nature around her. She breathed in the fresh air and listened to the birds flying by. It was very relaxing and Iris would like to stay here but... She had a job to do. So she walked on but as soon as she could put a foot forward she bumped into something or someone. She felt and saw fur and thought at first she had run into the bear again. But when she heard the voice she knew who it was. "Hello Iris" said a very familiar voice with an English accent. When she heard it, she had to back away immediately. Yes, she knew who she had run into. It was the devil himself. And she already suspected what he wanted from her. "Oh no you again" she said annoyed.
"What missed me?" his eyes sparkled again. Iris saw it and didn't know what to say. After all, she didn't want to have anything to do with him. "Hardly now what do you want?" she asked him even more annoyed than before. Don't tell me you want to offer me this again. She really hoped so, because she already knew what her answer would be. No! "What I can't see my lovely friend Iris?" in his hand appeared a rose which he offered to Iris.
She didn't know what to say to that. The rose looked beautiful, but Iris knew that if she accepted it, he would demand something from her. So she refused the rose. "I am not your friend, now I ask you again What do you want?" the devil as well as the rose in his hand lowered to the ground when he heard that. "Fine I'm here to see if you consider my offer" he threw the rose behind his back and pouted. "Oh for the love of..." Iris rolled her eyes in annoyance "for the last time No I am not joining you". With these words Iris passed the devil who was looking after her.
"Oh why not I can give you everything and anything why do you still refuse to join me?" he ran after her and walked beside her. His grin was not to be overlooked which Iris tried to ignore as well as possible. "Oh I don't know let's see your the devil and not only are you trying to steal my best friend's soul but you are trying to collect everyone else's soul" she enumerated while she and the devil stopped. "Yeah and your point is?" he asked her with his arms crossed. Iris looked at him with a confused expression as if he didn't know what she meant. Annoyed that he didn't get it she rolled her eyes again "The point Devil is I don't want that and spread more misery and fear in the world".
"Now can you just give up and leave me alone?" "Never! And you're coming with me!" he grabbed her arm and was about to disappear with her into the underworld. But instead of disappearing into the underworld, the devil only got a magical electric shock when he touched the ground with his trident. His fur was slightly burnt, his tail jagged and in general he didn't look very pleased. "I see your still wearing that necklace" he said with a slightly angry look as he looked at the necklace whose gemstone was still electrified.
"Yep and I'm not taking it off!" She pulled out her wand, waved it, and disappeared before the devil's eyes. He shook off the soot and couldn't help but grin seductively. "Got to love her moxie" yes his tail wagged slowly with joy when he said that. "Looks like I have two things to do today" he said, holding his chin thoughtfully with his hand. "Stop her from finding her familiar and some how to get that necklace off her then she will be mine!" he also disappeared in a cloud of smoke and followed her.
Iris landed in the city when she appeared from the cloud of smoke. She wanted to stay in the forest, but in the city she was safer from the devil for the moment than in the forest. The park was fortunately not far from her and was also busy with animals. So she could try her luck there. She hoped it anyway since it was already noon. "Already noon and still haven't found a familiar" Iris sighed as she walked through the park. She had been in the park all morning looking for a Familiar. But every time she saw an animal and wanted to make a connection with it, something strange happened.
She met a cute bunny in a meadow that approached her as Iris offered him a carrot. But as soon as the bunny could approach the carrot, a black fox appeared and chased it away. A deer came towards her and wanted to be stroked by her but a black wolf prevented this which scared the deer away and an owl was chased away by a loud noise which was created by a lumberjack who was felling a tree not far from Iris. Iris paid no attention to this because she was more than frustrated. However, this pleased the devil who appeared behind a tree and watched her "Ah there she is" he said when he saw her helping a small sandwich girl to drink water from the park fountain. It was too small to drink from the fountain itself. "Thank you lady" she thanked Iris as she lowered her back down and she walked along the path.
"Glad to help" Iris said as she waved after the child. "She may be a goody two shoes but she is so cute" he said and blushed even more than before. Normally he would be annoyed when he sees someone doing something good in front of his eyes, but with Iris it was something else. He found it sweet. He shook his head to clear his mind again. "No, no, no, got to get rid of that necklace and stop her from finding her familiar" he disappeared in a puff of smoke and continued to follow Iris secretly. Iris then noticed that her stomach slowly growled and she got hungry. Well, she had hardly eaten anything, so she should probably or not take a break. A hot dog stand was not far away from her to which she went. "Hi one hotdog please" Iris told the vendor an anthropomorphic cat "Sure thing, that will be five dollars" he said and held out his hand in which Iris handed him five dollars "Here you go" he accepted the money and took a hotdog from his stand which he gave to Iris "Thank you" she thanked him.
Sitting down on a bench not far from her, she was about to bite into the hot dog when she heard something. It was a whimper. Confused, she looked around to see where the sound was coming from. It was a puppy that looked very much like a wolf with its gray and black fur and white undercoat. It wasn't hard to tell that it was a stray because the fur was a bit fuzzy and not smooth like a normal house dog.
Iris couldn't really tell what breed of dog it was exactly either. The fur was very dirty and needed to be washed. But that was not the reason why the dog was here with Iris. He was hungry and wanted something from the hot dog that Iris was holding in her hand. "Poor thing" she said and broke the hot dog in two. "Hi" she said and gave the dog a piece of the hot dog. This surprised the dog a bit who kept his distance until he smelled the hot dog. But he wasn't sure yet if he should take a bite of it and stared at Iris apprehensively "Don't worry I don't want to hurt you...you look hungry so here" she put the piece of hotdog on the ground in front of the dog who approached it, smelled the hotdog and gobbled it down with relish, wagging his tail.
She also devoured the rest of her hot dog and threw away the paper trash in one of the many garbage cans before she went on to look for a Familiar. But before she could even get up from the bench, the dog jumped on her lap and thanked her. "Awe glad to help buddy" the dog licked her cheek as a sign of his gratitude. Of course, Iris had to laugh when the dog licked her. "Ok I got to get going now see you around, bye!" Iris set the dog back down on the ground before continuing. But the dog followed her every step of the way.
Iris, however, did not notice this and continued to walk through the park looking for a Familiar. She didn't want to give up even though it was already afternoon and the sun was slowly going down. Not far from her appeared a booth selling jewelry. Some pieces of jewelry already looked lovely, so Iris approached the jewelry booth and looked around. From necklaces to rings was everything there what the heart desires. "Wow" Iris said as she looked around and found a bracelet that she thought was beautiful. The booth owner noticed that she was interested in it. "Welcome see what you like" said an anthropomorphic goat wrapped in a thick coat so that only the hands and the head were visible.
"Oh hello you have a lot of beautiful jewelry" Iris said as she looked from the necklace she had been staring at to the other jewelry. The dog that followed her was not far from Iris, watching her from behind a tree. "I have a lot of beautiful necklaces that I know you might like" said the seller as he opened the right side of his coat containing various necklaces. All of them looked very beautiful but also seemed to be very expensive. Unfortunately, Iris didn't have enough money to afford any of the necklaces. Sadly, she lowered her outstretched hand and sighed.
The seller noticed that she was no longer interested in the necklaces. Even when he wanted to offer her one, she still looked sad. "It's beautiful but I don't have enough money to buy it" she said and sighed even more than before. The seller thought as she was about to leave and saw her necklace. "How about a trade?" Iris looked up at him and looked at him in confusion until she realized that the seller was pointing at her necklace. "We can trade that necklace of yours for this new necklace" he held the necklace in his hand that Iris was very interested in. But she wasn't sure if she wanted to trade, not only does it protect her from dark magic and the devil. But because the necklace was also a family heirloom that had been passed down from generation to generation. She didn't want to trade it just like that for a normal necklace, so she refused.
"Sorry but I'm going to pass, as much as your necklace is beautiful I'm not trading my necklace" The salesman's right eye twitched a little when he heard this and was about to freak out, but he calmed down again. Or at least that's how it looked. "Oh that's to bad might I ask why not?" he said with a slightly annoyed tone while still smiling. "Oh well this necklace is special to me and my family. My grandfather gave it to my grandmother and now she passed it down to me. So I would never part with it" Iris explained to him.
"How irritatingly charming" the salesman said softly to himself but Iris heard it and looked at him confused. "What was that?" she asked him. The salesman shook his head as he realized what he had just said. He shook his head "Oh I just said how darling that story was". "Oh well it was nice talking to you but I got to get going" Iris said as she continued walking while the salesman looked after her. "Oh same have a great day" she left the stall while the vendor waited until she was completely gone to turn back into the devil who growled in anger and disappeared with the stall in a puff of smoke. The dog saw this and was worried about Iris, which is why he continued to follow her inattentively.
It was 4pm. Iris was still in the park and was more than disappointed. She had unfortunately had no luck and still had not found a Familiar. "Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow" she went back to leave the Park, but just as she was about to set foot, the devil appeared from a cloud of smoke in front of her. "You again?" she said, slightly annoyed that he was with her again. "Iris, just hear me out" he said as he approached her while Iris continued to keep her distance. She didn't want to get too close to him. "Save it what ever it is No and there's nothing you can say to change my mind" she reached for her wand and stuck it in the devil's face. Or rather, into his nose. He raised both his hands to show her that he didn't want to harm her. His tail meanwhile held his trident. "I can help you with your magic problem," he said. Iris' eyes widened. She pulled her wand away, "What did you say?".
"I looked more into your file and learned about your magic setbacks problem" "Quite!" she covered his mouth with her hand and looked around with a jerk. There was no one there to hear, which reassured her, so she removed her hand from his mouth. "I see I got your attention" said the devil with a mischievous grin. Iris ignored him at first until she gave him an annoyed expression. Yes, she had to admit that he was right. Unfortunately. "If you join me I'll be happy to help you improve your magic".
Iris thought about what he had said. Yes, her magic didn't always work the way she wanted it to. Either it worked or it fired back. Where others could do it with ease, she had problems. That's why she was teased in school in the first place. "Are you tired of not living your full potential?" she nodded and said nothing "Your magic not always going right as it suppose to? Feeling like not just letting yourself but everyone important to you down?" Slowly his hand moved to her cheek as he said this to caress her. But before he could even touch it, Iris jerked and moved her head away. The devil, however, didn't mind and tried again, stroking her cheek while Iris was deep in thought. She did not know what to say. On the one hand she wanted to refuse, but on the other hand it was true what he said. Her magic was not perfect. She knew that.
Deep in thought and not knowing that the devil took advantage of this opportunity to remove her necklace. Slowly his other hand moved to it and touched it. He hoped very much that he could remove the necklace but unfortunately he was shocked again by the magic of the necklace when he touched the clip.
Iris woke up from her thoughts and realized what the devil was up to and was back to her old self. She shook her head and the thoughts away while the devil sucked his finger which still hurt. "My Magic may not be like every other witches I know, and I don't know why my magic is the way it is" the devil looked at her still with his finger in his mouth to cool it down. "But I know my magic is just as strong as any other magic user and dislike my challenges... I never give up" yes Iris was stubborn like the rest of her family.
"And thanks to the love of my friends and family my magic is improving and stronger. But thanks to them they reminds me what truly is important and I'll never lose sight of that" she crossed her arms and looked at him annoyed while the devil took his finger out of his mouth which still smoked a little but didn't hurt as much as before. "So again I would never ever join you and Leave me alone!" she walked past him while the devil looked after her and growled. "Not so fast!" he said and used his pitchfork having a magical hold on her holding her in place.
"I can help you with your magic and you still can honestly turn down my offer again?" he did not want to believe it. In one second he had her and in the other poof she refused his offer. Just like that. He could not believe it. "I give you credit all day I did everything I could think of to get that necklace off you." Iris was trying to break free from the magic that was holding her and trying to reach for her wand but no luck."The only good thing about today is I was able to stop you from finding you're familiar!" but now her pupils suddenly shrank when she heard that.
"What are you?...wait a minute" she thought while the devil kept his mouth shut. He couldn't help but smirk at her as she started to place everything together. "The fox...the wolf and the lumberjack...that was you?!" he nodded "guiltily as charge" he gloated about it. Iris was now more than angry at him and then suddenly had protective gloves on "now let's see about getting that necklace off shall we". She try to moved away from him but can't while he came closer till he was right in front of her .
But before he could even begin to approach the necklace with his fingertips, the devil suddenly felt a sharp pain and cried out "Yow!" he cried out in pain and looked at the puppy hanging on and biting down on his tail and growling at him. "Why you little street mutt!" With one swing, he hurled the puppy into a bush. Finally, undisturbed, he could get at the necklace. Or so he thought until he and Iris noticed electrifying voltages in the air and looked at the bush from which the puppy came, streaming with electricity. His eyes were white and showed no pupils. In general, the puppy no longer seemed to be a puppy but was getting bigger and bigger and becoming a wolf. An electrifying wolf, to be more precise, that was even bigger than the devil himself.
The devil got his pitchfork and aimed it in front of the now wolf dog, but the dog grabbed his pitchfork and toss it far away from the Devil. The Devil became nervous as the wolf approached him and the sparks grew stronger. "Nice doggy" he said but the wolf just roared and an electric charge came shooting out of his back hitting the devil and shocking him of course. Of course, this electric charge was even stronger than the one from the necklace, after getting shocked the devil lays on the ground groaning in pain. Iris was free and still shocked by what she just saw but the dog turned back to a puppy and ran straight to Iris. Iris picked up the puppy in he arms "thank you for saving me buddy" she said to the puppy that happily licked her cheek.
She walked up to the devil who just managed to pull himself up. He looked at her and said "How can you refuse my offer so easily?" "Easy...like this!" With her free hand that thundered into his cheek the devil could hardly avoid. Yes Iris had enough and went on while the devil landed precisely on a park bench and stars circled over him. He shook his head and saw Iris teleporting away with the dog before his eyes.
He didn't know why, but his cheeks flushed again as he slowly ran his hand over the spot where Iris had slapped him. "She does have that certain something…Oh my dearest Iris" he closed his eyes and was lost in thought again until he remembered what he had just said. His pupils shrank and he took his hand away from the spot and looked at it in confusion "What nonsense am I talking about?" the devil asked himself as he blushed even more than before. No, he didn't want to believe that he was in love with a Spark. Damn it, he was the devil. He could not fall in love with a good witch. Good and evil together? That did not fit. But he could not help but submit to his feelings. Yes, he was in love with Iris.
She was already something special he had to admit. And he could hardly imagine a life without her. That's why he had decided to make her his wife and his queen. But how he could get her to say yes, he did not know. For now, at least, he returned to the underworld. He had done enough for today and had to prepare himself before he could meet Iris again.
Back at the Spark house
"Grandma I'm home!" Dora heard as the front door opened. She looked from the kitchen into the hallway and saw her daughter accompanied by a small dog. "Oh Iris how did go today dear?" she asked curiously. But the curiosity disappeared when she saw Iris lowering her head sadly. "I didn't find my familiar but I made a new friend" she smiled again and showed her grandmother the dog that had helped her. Yes, Iris told her everything that happened while she was looking for a Familiar. Doris was very frightened but also very surprised when she learned that the dog had saved her from the devil. The latter ate something on the side while the two were in the kitchen where Dora was cooking dinner.
"Wow what an amazing and brave pup you are" Dora walked away from the pot that Iris was stirring to thank the puppy for protecting her granddaughter from the devil. "Thank you for protecting my little Iris" she stroked him over the head.
Tired and worn out, Iris went upstairs to her room to rest. The dog followed her and lay down on the carpet next to her bed and slept as well. The next day, Iris and her grandmother decided to look for a Familiar for Iris. The thing with the devil had worried Dora very much. Therefore, she wanted to be on the safe side and accompany her in case the devil would appear.
Dora did not want to risk that, which is why she always stayed close to her granddaughter. But what they didn't know was that the puppy was following them all the time. "Hey, what are you doing here, little guy?" Iris asked him as he ran towards her with his tail wagging. The puppy barked at her in a friendly manner while his tail wagged even more than before.
He never left her side. Not even when she went further. Dora noticed that and already had a suspicion why the puppy was very attached to Iris. "Iris..." Iris looked at her grandmother while the puppy sat between her legs and continued to wag its tail. "I think we should stop our search for a Familiar for you" Iris was confused "What do you mean Grandmother?" Iris didn't know what she meant until she suddenly felt something. A connection that seems to be very close.
Iris looked down at the puppy and felt the connection even stronger now than before. "Wait, could it be that this puppy is my..." yes she felt the connection even stronger than before and knew what that meant. "...Familiar?" the puppy barked again to confirm it to her. Iris didn't believe it. She had had her Familiar with her all along and hadn't known it. She thought he stayed with her only because she gave him food and because he protected her from the devil.
"It seems he wants to be your Familiar my dear" tears ran down Iris's face as she looked from her grandmother to the puppy still wagging its tail. "I can't believe you really want to be my Familiar?" the puppy barked again and jumped in her arms as Iris bent down.
"It seems you have found your Familiar" Dora was more than happy with her granddaughter. "Now that you have bonded with your Familiar, you should give him a name" Iris nodded but was confused as to how her grandmother knew the puppy was male. But yes she had already thought of a name. "How about Sparky, I mean he turned into an electric wolf yesterday?" she suggested to the puppy who licked her cheek with joy. "Okay then, your name is Sparky from now on" the puppy barked and started howling like a wolf. But one thing still had to be cleared up. "Yes you need a bath badly" yep the puppy smelled badly and needed to be bathed badly.
Therefore, the two went back home to bathe the puppy which Iris found out is a Pomsky with black and white fur. Of course, the white fur became grayish over time so that this could no longer be seen. But now he was clean again, didn't smell like garbage anymore and got a yellow collar from Iris with an identification tag in the shape of a lightning bolt. Thus, the dog now belonged to her and was from now on her faithful companion.
Back in the Underworld
Due to the Familiar's attacks, his whole body was wrapped with bandages that Henchman was making sure to bandage it tightly well so that they would not become undone. The Devil was thinking about everything that happened today. His plan should run completely differently today but he was still far from giving up. He also agreed that he had feelings for Iris Spark. His smile was hard to miss. "Your were right Henchman" he heard as he tied the last knot and looked to the devil with a confused expression on his face.
"About what boss?" Henchman asked, confused. He looked closely into the boss's eyes and noticed that they were different than before. He therefore already suspected what exactly was going on. His pupils became thicker and sparkled like those of a child who was happy to receive presents and was ready to unwrap them. "That I'm in love with Iris" said the devil in a low voice so that nobody heard him except Henchman, of course. But he did not hear it either. Or pretended not to hear, "What?" "I love Iris Spark" the devil said a little louder so that everyone near him could hear it.
The Imps that walked or flew by stopped and looked at him. Everyone was confused, including Henchman who asked again and smiled smugly. "Boss I didn't hear that can you repeat that?" yes he wanted to hear it again. The devil rolled his eyes annoyed "I'm in love with Iris Spark!" he stretched his arms while his words echoed out through the whole underworld "There I said it! Happy?!" he turned to Henchman and saw his face. "Awe Boss... I'm so happy for you" Henchman said as he smiled even more and his pupils became even thicker with tears of joy than before while the devil blushed even more than before.
"I made up my mind Henchman, I never meet a woman like her before and I'm not going to lose her" slowly the blush disappeared from his face while the devil looked at his feet and thought. "Boss... Do you mean?" the question he was about to ask was answered with a nod of his head. "Yes Henchman I finally found my bride I've been dreaming of for centuries and her name is Iris Spark" yes the devil had already for a very long and I mean very very long searched for a woman and queen to rule together with him over the underworld. Even as a ruler of the underworld, life can be very lonely if you do not share it with someone you like. And as crazy as it is that his love and bride to be was noun other than a Spark good witch.
Now he has a new goal to not only get that cup's soul but also get Iris to be his bride.
