Kazooie flew off and laughed the last laugh,
Five players left; a group cut in half.
Joker: Well, we are here. The final five. I must say, I cannot trust any of the others to make this game easy for me. I suppose I will just have to make it difficult for them as well. Oh, but as a player, of course. Do not be silly, viewer. Not as the Mole.
Isabelle: I'm just like, so, so, SO terribly anxious, because Kazooie's gone, and she was one of the smartest players here! So does that mean…oh, too many thoughts! The players here aren't really being eliminated by intelligence! I'm just nervous! What is to even come next for us in the game?
Lucina: Being at this stage…it is symbolic, I feel, to me. We have reached a line. A line of endurance, and strength. And from here, we have one more task: to see how much further we can survive past this very important line. To succeed, with integrity, past this point…to wherever we are meant to end individually.
Dark Pit: Meh, whatever. The final five. What does it all mean, anyway? Guess we'll find out.
DK: So I'm thinking a million things right now…and it's MIGHTY scary! Okay, not that scary, cause I'm a big, brawny, brainless guy. But I keep reminding myself: if I don't have mental strength, man, all I have is physical strength in this weird, complicated game. But...that's not enough! I need BOTH to make it through to the end of the game! But let's put all these worries aside, right? Final five: let's GO!
Five players. Each with extremely different personalities. Each person…with their own aims and incentives. Not only their appearances and motives vastly different…but their ultimate objectives and final goals in the game.
And one of them having had the sole objective and goal to sabotage all along. Since the beginning.
The floating world of Skyloft served for their final night in the Hyrule universe. Now, they were about to quickly transport away...to another world...to another episode of deception and mistrust. Each player looked out the windows of the Knight Academy from their individual rooms, in which they had quietly stayed, and were greeted by a close sun in the sky. The rays hit them more than usual, since they were quite much higher up in elevation, nearer to the big star itself. In the unique land of sky…they thought of their their departed friend, Kazooie.
Dark Pit saw a small bird in the sky. He thought of Kazooie…and thought of how for over two weeks, they almost hadn't been able to fly. But finally, she was able to. She departed, and he was left. He was rather bitter.
Lucina looked out the window, at the tall Statue of the Goddess when she woke up. When she thought of a female protector…she also thought of Kazooie from three nights before amidst the cafe…and how the bird was a protector for the princess in the quaint town from potential danger. In her heart, she was thankful.
"Thank you, Kazooie..." the princess whispered.
DK woke up happily…but thirty seconds later, sighed despondently with extremely changed sentiments on the edge of his small bed… as he looked over at the bag of leftover pumpkin seeds on the stool left from his friend the day before. Unmistakably, he was the most affected by Kazooie's execution. Wistfully, DK thought back to Fox…and Kazooie…and now, just to himself. He was thinking of who else he had left…if anyone. DK moaned in glumness.
"RAWWWRGH!"
Isabelle heard his yell, and giggled. She also thought about the wooden Mole sign that she and Kazooie encountered during their first night in the underground cave. And felt slightly guilty about what she had done in the situation. She sighed…but she smiled a little. She put on a big smile for the upcoming day.
"Ah...another day in a beautiful inferno of mistrust, trickery, and subterfuge," Joker spoke calmly.
Joker walked out of the house with a satisfied, content, subtle grin, and then when he saw the other four players standing on the grassy stone, said smile vanished. His opponents…who were also his very teammates…made him have a plethora of mixed thoughts. And then, another sudden thought struck the thief. The triangle of him, Lucario, and Kazooie was now gone, and it was just a single point now. He chuckled: it was slightly with amusement and sadness. Because now...he was the only one left.
But despite it all, and despite their various, many, different, thoughts, they made their way to the red, largest building in the center of the sky-floating village of Skyloft. All five players saw Smash Host, ready to greet them all.
"Hello…the final five!" he greeted, smiling. "Congratulations."
Episode 6: Begin
He looked at them...almost in surprise. "My. We are down to half the players who were originally here. Unbelievable, if you ask me. The past five players have sadly departed. Now, you are the remaining ones." The players nodded… feeling the same too.
"Four of you have been lucky to reach this stage. But one of you…has gotten a free pass all this time to this moment. Quite a cheater…that player. A dastardly, conniving little player, indeed…or rather, not a player at all? So, which one of you is it?" Everyone looked at the host with confusion.
"Dark Pit…a dark angel who belongs in this very sky…" Smash Host began, looking at the angel to his left, as everyone turned to the young, dark-haired boy. Dark Pit looked at the host, and Smash Host continued. "Last night…you seemed to be looking at Kazooie heavily as she left the game. Maybe it was because of…jealousy? Jealousy of not being able to leave…as a trapped saboteur?" Everyone was silent towards the angel. Dark Pit grinned, folding his arms and facing the host.
"Could be," he smiled, shrugging largely in response. "Could be." Smash Host looked elsewhere.
"Or maybe the Mole is just someone more determined…more loyal…more elegant…more royal," the host continued, and another player immediately gasped. Lucina looked at him, slightly stunned eyes at his words.
"I see..." was all Lucina responded, a little taken back by the host's direct speaking to her. The young warrior woman, who had befriended many in the past, only just thought about his words quietly. The host winked at Lucina.
"A princess as a Mole…how preposterous," he sighed. He then turned to the player beside her.
"Then again…you can say that a loud, boisterous ape from the land of jungle kings and mighty fighters being the Mole…is just even more of an outlandish thought," Smash Host chuckled out loud, and from this, DK's mouth dropped in disbelief. The large ape didn't know what to say at first, but he definitely gave out an unbelieving glare to the host of the game himself.
"Can't believe you'd dare to CALL me the bad guy here," DK spoke up with a light growl but also with a moan. "Calling me the Mo…ergh…can't even say the word without cringing or wanting to whack you, host. Not that I would!" The host only chuckled, much to DK's chagrin, as the large player gave out a deep frown. Then, he turned a bit slightly to his right…to a fourth player in the group.
"Or…what if I'm wrong about it all? What if it's all the complete opposite? A little secretary of a village who really desires to be more? Working hard, in and out of this game? Assiduous…brilliant…these qualities make a great Mole...right, Isabelle?" Everyone turned to Isabelle herself. The little dog's eyes were wide at first, but then, she only just smiled largely in reply. Her cheerful face was anything and everything the others could see.
"Oh…I mean, it is a funny thought!" the little female canine laughed out loud, her eyes twinkling. "But, I guess if you say so...I could be a possible suspect!" She shrugged a little.
"And lastly…our one and only…forever mysterious…intelligent thief." Smash Host eyed the player directly in front of him: someone calm, cool, collected, but always with an air of perpetual suspicion himself. In seeing the host look at him, Joker raised his eyebrow. The thin gentleman turned to the host, smiling in challenge, and mouth closed…waiting.
"…but on second thought…you're too obvious to be the Mole!" the host laughed suddenly, shaking his head to him. "I'm not even going to count you, as a matter of fact, unmasked player. You're sly…clever…and no one knows just what you'll do next…ever in this game, really. You just can't be the Mole! Who in the world would pick you?"
"Hmm?" Joker questioned back, his eyes trying not to show any emotion, but the others could see that he was slightly surprised at the host's words.
"Unless…that is your plan…so no one ever chooses you on that final, death-determining question of every quiz?" The host paused, closing his eyes. "A genius plan...a testament to your evident intelligence indeed."
Joker chuckled…then spoke back to the hatted gentleman with a little antagonism. "A mysterious prodigy of persuasion and misdirection yourself, Smash Host," Joker replied, looking rather calm. "Well done." Everyone turned to him silently at his reply. Joker smiled slightly back to the host...but he was also staring heavily at the hatted man.
The host clapped his hands. "You're all very, very suspicious…all five of you, really, if you think about it," Smash Host finished. All five players silently turned to look at each other. Who was truly the deceiver of their very world…all this time in their very game?
"In entering Episode 6, we will leave this Skyloft world...and travel onwards to a new destination. One…quite different than any other places we've been. I'm sure you will all agree."
Whooo! A shining light appeared from next to the large, red building in front of them. Then, slowly, a platform rose from the ground. It's brilliant glisten was even more magnified from the bright sun that shone so near them. The players stared at their teleportation pad, one that they would be using for yet a sixth time.
"Again…" The five players walked to the platform, and one by one, they stepped upon it. They were the cut half of the group. From ten players, to nine on the first time they saw the platform, and now…just five.
Five very suspicious players. But four of them just unluckily, unfairly being accused that morning.
But the host had accused one of them very well.
Joker, Isabelle, DK, Lucina, and Dark Pit all traveled to the next location of their new episode together.
Whoosh…
Cold air hit their faces…and snowy landscapes hit their eyes. They faced each other, then out at their new world.
"Oh…this is…different…"
Lucina: Where…did we land? Where would we be subjected to in our treacherous game?
Glaciers existed in the distance. The five players gasped at the sudden change of atmosphere…and weather. It was still sunny…but it felt different. The world still felt alive…but opposite to everything they had mostly experienced before. What was completely different at first was the temperature on their skin. And they knew the world was not warm in any way.
Whoosh… Another gust of wind made them turn around...and they stared with mystified feelings of wonder. In the distance, they saw frozen lands of beauty and wonder amidst the ocean. Glaciers...large, expanse lands of ice...existing across the waters...stretched out for miles to their lefts and rights and into the distance. It was as if entire continents of ice and snow were floating on the water in front of them and behind them…each gigantic land seeming like it could fit and be its own world.
The players saw a multitude of majestic snowy mountains in the distance…then realized with a gasp…that the five of them themselves were now on a large mountain in the new world itself. They had made a sudden arrival on a monumental hill of nature made of rocks, snow, and slippery ice. The players took in the fact that they had arrived at the top of what seemed like the most colossal mountain of all for miles in the landscape, its largeness and grandness tantamount to their surprise. The mountain top was indeed icy, snowy, and big enough of a platform to hold many people if they were to climb up the mountain. But at that moment, it only held five players upon it...and they looked around the mountain top in mystery.
DK: Oh, man...just WHERE did the Mole bring us this time? Come on: give us a break, man! Or, woman! Okay, so statistically there's a fifty-percent chance that the Mole could be female!
Their world was the color of white, with slight shades of rocky grey below their feet and all around them in the air too, all of the whiteness around them seemingly symbolizing newness and purity for them as the final five. Snow fell slightly onto their faces, and they tried to look around. As they stepped around their ground slowly in amazement, the players saw their very footprints form below them in the snow as they stepped around. It was unmistakably a different, fascinating place.
"Look at that! Man, this is cool!" DK exclaimed loudly with excitement, lifting his foot. Then…his smile vanished for a second, extremely confused. "Wait…tell me…WHY were we placed in the middle of some…snow… something?!"
"We're on a mountain…and this is our game," Joker acknowledged with surveillance, hand on his chin, looking further around their platform edge. Looking over the edge of the mountain top that they were on, they almost felt as if the monumental natural creation had no bottom to it. And wherever they looked out from upon their giant mountain, they took in the sight again of Arctic, endless waters, and at the ocean, and at further views of more glaciers, other further mountains, and more that existed in the icy world. The sky was blue, but snowy.
Snow continued to lightly fall. The players faced each other, seeing the snowflakes gently landing on each other's faces. They were amused, but mystified.
Dark Pit sneezed.
"I'm…cold," he said.
Isabelle's shuddered. "Ooh, it's all so beautiful, yes, but I wish I had my coat…!"
And to save them, Smash Host grinned, walking up from a slope below, several layers of heavy clothing in his hands, the short man himself looking like a heap of cloth and fabrics on the snowy mountain top himself as he held the players' belongings.
"These are yours…and you might want them for the time being," he winked, his image giving them comfort. The players quickly put on their individual coats with relief and necessity.
Joker: So…it's winter fashion time. The Mole must definitely have something for both style…as well as sabotage.
Joker stepped back, his slick, blue trench coat giving him a new look. He smiled on the top of the mountain, looking ready on the pinnacle of the hill.
"So this is Episode 6. Welcome," Joker whispered loudly to the others. His eyes glistened with an aura of trickery in the snow.
Dark Pit: He thinks he's so cool. Pfft.
"Hey…I wish I had a cool coat like yours!" DK complained, freezing in his thin sweater. The large ape, as accustomed as he was to cold weather and having the skill of adaptability with his thick, brown fur… still looked slightly shivery.
DK: Well, that's really unfair! The Mole gets to plan where we go and what to bring, and whatnot! Grr! The advantages of being a saboteur hiding among us five this whole time!
"Oh my gosh…yes!" Isabelle said with relief, seeing the orange earmuffs she packed beforehand and picking them up from Smash Host's pile. "I knew these would come in handy! Yay!"
Lucina finished putting on her white military coat. Everyone looked at her. Standing on the wintery mountain top, she looked like an elegant princess...of snow itself.
The players took another moment to look around the mountain summit they were on. Everyone then faced Smash Host.
"Welcome to Icicle Mountain," he spoke loudly, snow falling upon his hat. "Episode 6! We land here at the top of the mountain, where two young climbers bravely scaled towards…multiple times, in fact. Not an easy task for them, ever. Luckily for you guys, you're already here…here at the top. Enjoy the breathtaking view."
"Wow…so this really IS Icicle Mountain! Yes!" Isabelle squealed out loud in wonder, hopping around and looking at the glaciers near the ocean base. "I knew it! It just...looked a bit different, is all!" She turned around to face the floating glaciers of ice upon the ocean behind them. "Everything is so…nice here! Especially in the morning! It's also…so weird in a way."
"Well, everything is SO, like, FRIGIN' FRIGID COLD!" DK complained loudly. Joker laughed.
"Saying the statement while just only wearing just a tie and a very thin sweater," Joker realized, smiling at the ape. "Funny for you to complain about being at a cold body temperature, hmm…choosing to wear only such? Why didn't you wear and bring more, DK?"
"As if I had time to prepare! I had no idea we'd be even coming to a freezing environment at all in this game!" DK retorted loudly with complaint, folding his arms. "How could I have known? Just who even knows anyway?!"
"The Mole definitely knew…" Lucina whispered. "They know…everything. Everything they would come across. Let us not forget."
"Yeah…" DK added, looking around at the others four players around him suspiciously.
Everyone looked at each other.
"Umm..." Isabelle began.
"So, what?" Dark Pit said with a laughing mutter. "We're just going to accuse each other based on who has the best, warmest winter clothing? So stupid." Everyone realized the indeed silliness of it all.
"I just brought these orange earmuffs cause I thought they were cute!" Isabelle told them with wide eyes, patting them.
"And look at me: I'm practically naked!" DK exclaimed with emphasis and conviction.
"Players, our episode begins here, on this tall, tall mountain…an icy beginning…the beginning of your icy adventure this episode," the host spoke and continued to them all. "I hope your hearts are still warm. Because this world is...quite cold. But for now…we will be playing a game. A mission. To begin your group as a symbolic number of five." The players felt uncertain…especially in their new atmosphere.
"Nice…a freezing, dead world," Dark Pit said, looking to the snowy ground, hands tucked in his dark-black parka… one that matched his black hair, usual clothes… but as well as his attitude. The dark angel didn't really seem willing to play anything at the moment…but for some reason, was slightly content about it all.
Dark Pit: The good thing about this episode and world? There didn't seem to be a human in sight. Not a single soul. No one to bother me. Just me and my dark heart…and some weird snowflakes. I liked it. I liked the desert landscape of Episode 3, and now I liked it here too.
"I suppose we should all then...expect the worst for this next game…" Joker chuckled with a sigh, looking at the other players, and then back at the host with beady eyes. "Let us expect us to be on this mountain for many hours to come. Because that's what I'm predicting in such a game like this, with every new challenge: suffering. Mentally, and physically." He then shook off the snow from his gloves…realizing that even his hands themselves were susceptible to the cold.
Joker: Alas, we must suffer, yes? Because that is how the game of the Mole usually goes. That is how the mind of the Mole acts too, I'm sure. Wanting us to suffer immensely. How much we must hate them. And how much they must hate us.
Lucina: Just, in my mind, we were ready…for anything. Whether we had to crawl through the snow…or stay for a long time on this cold, cold mountain. I had trained in environments worse than this, so I was ready. But...like everything mysterious and unknown in this game... I did not know for sure, however.
"This next mission will last a time of just…three hours," Smash Host answered, and the players seemed to breathe with relief. They were still tense, however. Many things could happen in three hours. DK looked around at their unsure faces with a large frown.
"Come on, you guys: let's all get pumped! " DK shouted, looking excited and ready to play, more than the others. "We may be cold, but we might win if we're more excited and warm up and jump up, and UP, and UP...!"
"You were just complaining about the cold two seconds ago," Dark Pit pointed out. "Don't fake your enthusiasm. And also, no thanks."
"Hey: you're not helping me here!"
"Anyways, what's the next mission?" Isabelle asked eagerly in tone to the host. "I'm a little excited!"
Smash Host looked at the players. "This next mission of this game…is called…'Rule-Changing Mountain.'" The players looked at the host with curiosity at his announcement. Their game upon Icicle Mountain would be an interesting one, it seemed.
"For this entire game…your rules are simple," continued the host. "Stay here until the timer ends…all five of you…and win 40,000 coins." The players eyes widened amidst the falling snow. Everyone seemed surprised. Isabelle raised her hand slowly.
"Umm…wait, is that...it, host?" Isabelle asked, her face completely looking surprised. "Are those the only rules? Wow!"
"Sounds easy, I guess." Dark Pit shrugged, his mood better. "Let's do it."
"40,000?!" DK exclaimed, inadvertently throwing snow amuck into the faces of the other players with his arm raising. "Dang, that's a LOT! You're really spoiling us, Smash Host! And such easy rules! Thanks for the free money!" To his sentence, the host just smiled back…a little suspiciously to them.
"It's just that…those are the rules I start you with," the host continued, smiling mysteriously. "Throughout the next three hours, you may encounter…various vegetables. Strong vegetables that gave the Ice Climbers themselves energy as they trekked their vicious way to this very top of this mountain. And strong in this game as well." The Host smiled more. "Written on each of these special vegetables, you see…are some different rules."
"And what are with these weird vegetables and 'different rules'?!" DK asked with more confusion, her face discombobulated at hearing his extra component. The players waited for the host.
"If you pick up a vegetable and take a bite from it...the game will change to those rules written on them. The game changes completely." Everyone was silent…then they faced each other.
"…oh," Lucina began, and the princess looked at the very faces of the other four players around her on the mountain. A sense of worry was on her face.
Lucina: Would…one of us change our game's very rules? Someone like...the Mole?
"Heh," Dark Pit snickered. "Rule-Changing Mountain indeed."
Joker: Well, if I had to make myself clear, it sounded more like 'Sabotage Mountain' to me, in my ears.
"Let's all work together…" Lucina spoke softly, facing them.
"As if we could do that with a Mole?!" Isabelle exclaimed in doubt.
"We must try," Lucina spoke in reply, as much certainty as she could muster in her voice.
"Stay here until the timer ends…all five of you…and win 40,000 coins." The host's rules were repeated to them once again. The players looked at him, nodding very slowly. They understood…but at the same time, didn't know what their game was exactly. And it made them uneasy, as uneasy ast they felt cold upon the tall mountain. But amidst uneasiness…they seemed ready.
"Well…I suppose that's the game," Joker nodded, folding his arms and looking at the others, smiling. "We know the rules. And we should have no qualms with them, right?" Everyone looked at the man, and from his expensive winter trench coat, to his smirking expression, they all felt a sense of confidence. Whether it was real…or fake.
"Yeah, sure…" Dark Pit began, rolling his eyes and looking at him oddly.
"Qualms? Well, of course not!" Isabelle stated happily. Though she looked unsure too, she also seemed excited to begin the mountainy game. She put on her orange earmuffs, feeling joyful and overall ready for her next mission. "Let's just…play! And do well! Our bests! Well…whatever that means, right?"
"We will indeed work well together…because we must," Lucina said with determination, and she closed her eyes, the princess blocking out the snow for just a moment. "We can survive this game together…because we've all survived up to this point in this game…not eliminated from this game…and still alive. We can win."
"Are you sure?" DK asked nervously.
"Yes..."
"Even with a Mole on this icicle mountain...hmm..." The players looked around the snowy summit...and also at each other.
"Of course," Lucina nodded, closing her eyes to the others. "Of course, we can win."
If only it would be that easy for the five players.
RULE-CHANGING MOUNTAIN:
GAME START
3 Hours Left...
Below the very top of the mountain, below its slippery, initial, top surface, another platform existed right over its edge twenty feet below. One could use a sloped, small hill to reach down to it, and the players did so as they walked down to the lower level platform. The platform was slightly heated, much to the players' relief. But also, to its rectangular side, the entrance to a small cave itself existed. It seemed large enough to fit one or two people, at comfortable max, but not all five of them in a narrow place. The five players turned to each other, standing at the cave's entrance.
"Umm…it's so small?" Isabelle noticed nervously. "The rest of us should go back up…there's not much room here!"
"I agree," Lucina said. "But maybe one of us should…perhaps stay here." They looked at the dark, isolated cave. It was daunting. But alone. Dark Pit's eyes lit up.
"Dibs on the cave," he said.
"Hey, wait…no FAIR!" DK moaned in response. "I was gonna call the cave FIRST!"
"Well, I actually did call it first," Dark Pit replied, and he entered the shallow cave and sat down at its back. Everyone saw that it wasn't deep, but Dark Pit found quickly that it gave him quietness and privacy. He sat down in its back in silence.
DK folded his arms. "Totally not fair! Not fair!"
"A little mad, sulky monkey?" Joker jested with a grin.
DK shook his head, angry and annoyed at both Joker and Dark Pit. "And why do you even want it, Dark Pit?! Huh?! Hey…get back here! Look at me, ya edgy boy!"
Dark Pit: Yes. Silence.
DK: Why did he want the cave? I WANTED IT! I was planning to be alone in the cave to mope about MY lost, friend, Kazooie!
Joker: I was suspicious of the two players who wanted the cave, Dark Pit and DK. Perhaps it had something special in it. Perhaps not. Who truly knew.
Isabelle: I was afraid that Dark Pit would definitely do private, espionage things in the cave when we're not looking. That's what I would do if I was the Mole, yes!
"So what will you do in the cave, anyway?" Joker asked him.
"Stuff." Dark Pit's reply was succinct. Everyone moaned at his vagueness.
"If you do anything suspicious in this cave…we'll know it was you that caused it!" DK warned him. "WE'LL KNOW! YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL! HEY, WAKE UP!" Dark Pit just slept, facing away.
Dark Pit: Away from DK for a few moments didn't seem so bad...hehe. But honestly? I just wanted to escape from the game for a few.
"Let us just…leave him alone," Lucina suggested. "In peace. And we should not waste time, as it is valuable. We can either wait on this very heated platform outside this cave, or go up." Everyone looked at each other. The heated platform was inviting…but the mountain top had a bigger view. Isabelle made a sharp sound, raising her hand.
"Well, umm…I'm going back to the top!" Isabelle called out, eagerly climbing the small slope back to the mountain summit, as the others turned to her ascending figure. "It's so shadowy and gloomy down here, like Dark Pit; the sun is probably sooo much brighter on top anyway! We should all go there! The sun is healthy!" Isabelle left, happily walking up the slope that led them back to the very top.
"Fine...okay…blegh," DK sighed…then, followed behind the yellow dog. They climbed up the slope to their side, trudging to the very top of their game. Lucina and Joker, the only ones left on the warm platform...faced each other.
"What…do you think this game truly is about?" Lucina asked Joker quietly. The coated gentleman only shrugged, looking up at the snow-dropping sky. They stared at the sky together.
"I haven't the faintest idea, Lucina. I really don't. But…that isn't a bad thing at all, is it? Mysteries…" He turned to her, smiling a bit. Lucina seemed confused at his words.
"What…do you mean, truly?" she asked Joker back, not understanding his sentences at all.
"Mysteries. They're…if you think about them…sometimes good. Because they definitely keep you on edge and excite you. Just like the mystery of who the Mole is amongst us. Is that not right?" He grinned a little. Lucina didn't know what to say in response to him amidst the falling snow. Then, the two of them, after a few seconds, decided to walk their way to the top of the mountain to follow Isabelle.
The petite, joyful dog and large, boisterous ape were already at the top, looking at the sunny sky.
"You can really see the sun more now!" Isabelle told them excitedly. The snow has lessened since they had first arrived on the mountain. Now, the air seemed clearer, and the sky was more visible. The light-blue above them seemed to give them more life. Though they were still uncertain about their game, they all felt slightly more alive...and awake...unlike Dark Pit.
Rule-Changing Mountain
2 Hours and 45 Minutes left...
"So. Where are the vegetables?" DK scratched his head.
"Maybe there's one in the cave?" Isabelle thought, looking around, "or is there one here on this mountain top? Though, my eyesight isn't that good in this falling snow!"
"Aren't you a dog?" DK laughed at her.
"Oh, don't play it like that!" Isabelle made a silly face to him. "I may lack eyesight, but I have a bigger brain than most! Oh, I don't mean to brag. I'm sorry!" DK grumbled with humor, walking away and exploring the mountain top.
"Hmph. Well. Wonder what Dark Pit will do in that cave," DK mumbled, shaking his head. The other three looked at him, his face irate as he stared back at the mountain side.
"Maybe he's doing…bad stuff?" Isabelle brought up, wide-eyed. No one knew.
Isabelle: He's just the most isolated too as a player! Even outside of missions! That is Moley!
Lucina: But one thing I do remember…is that he did not seem well yesterday. Only I knew the truth.
"The cave probably has cool stuff too!" DK moaned, sulking and folding his large arms.
"Alas, he was the only one who wanted to take the cave, after all," Joker shrugged. "So we let him be. He won the cave. He's on his own game. I really hope I did not say anything to offend him yesterday."
"You did too, DK! You wanted the cave also!" Isabelle realized, as the monkey silently scowled at her.
"Indeed. Why did you want to cave as well, Donkey Kong?" Joker asked him, folding his arms. "Dark Pit is one suspect...but you are one too." DK faced him with a shocked face as equivalent as his dropped mouth.
"Hey: I'm gonna give you my answer: the cave just seemed like a COOL element of the game!" DK announced back, rolling his eyes. "Plus...being on this empty mountain top is just…so boring! You just gotta totally agree with me! Right? And pfft: you think I'm suspicious cause of that?" They faced the freezing snow top together.
"Indeed, this summit could be…uneventful…" Lucina said. The warrior princess looked out at the glaciers near the base of the mountain. The ocean view was beautiful, however, and she was silently glad for it all.
"A little strange...this whole thing…" Joker sighed.
"Umm…this whole game is suspicious!" Isabelle commented, her face funny. Joker laughed in response to her sentence.
Joker: Suspicions, suspicions. Time to accuse.
"Well…let's think of what else is suspicious…because there are still five suspects on who the Mole is…" Joker said indeed suspiciously, eyes squinted from the sun…but also because he was staring at his other four teammates with heightened thoughts of distrust...and a smile. "Because this whole mountain is a rock-layered, natural block of solid suspicion. And one of us…is the Mole." Everyone turned to him. Joker laughed a bit again, facing DK.
"Mr. Kong. You look like you're quite used to places like this snowy hill," Joker smiled carefully at him, walking up to his spot. "Your gripping, riveting tracks in the world of racing are all these…peculiar, unusual snowy summits, are they not? Could it be you?"
"You own snowy, summit-like tracks?" Isabelle said to DK with wide, curious eyes. "Wow!"
"Ahhh! This has nothing to do with this game!" DK replied, shocked and gritting his teeth in disbelief at Joker's words.
"Or Lucina..." Joker decided to say, as the princess in white turned to him, surprised. "You look just rather dashing in your new coat. One could say you can represent this world very well. A goddess of snow and purity. How elegant. How...symbolic." Lucina paused, surprised, shocked herself. Everyone faced the princess.
Lucina: What do I say back?
"As stated before...judging one's clothes and preparedness for this snowy world...will not point you closer to the identity of the Mole," Lucina stated truthfully to him, and she faced away. "It will only heighten our group's mistrust."
DK hollered with surprise at Joker. "What?! Grr…stop being a suspect yourself and stop deflecting that you're probably a suspect! Maybe the Mole is someone bringing up these tangential thingamabobs! As if owning kart tracks on snowy mountains or wearing white means anything…!"
DK: He just blames other people…that's actually Moley in itself! Joker! He's the Mole! He definitely could be! He sabotages just enough to be it!
"Joker, haha! Your whole, well…existence is peculiar! Always mysterious and…stuff! With your mask!" Joker shook his head slowly, laughing, seemingly not bothered.
"Hmm… well, I have an objection. I haven't worn my mask for the past two episodes, DK, so I wouldn't consider myself mysterious at all," Joker corrected with a winning face. "If anyone is mysterious, it's you all other four…for various, different reasons." DK shook his head at him, giving up.
"Umm…I guess we should consider stronger which one of us could be the Mole…" Isabelle realized, eyes wide, going up to the two arguing male players. "The numbers are small now, after all. Should we discuss together, right now? Or not? Maybe not!"
"Hey, even if we're down to five, I just have no idea who it is, STILL!" DK moaned in a realizing voice, laughing.
Lucina stepped her way to the edge of the mountain top, separate from their conversation. "The view…in this peaceful mission…" Lucina began to the others. "How mesmerizing it all is. How I wish this truly was a peaceful game." The other players stopped and looked into the distance for a minute. Then, at the other icy mountains. The other hills' snow reflected strongly in the sun and into their own eyes, the glare reaching them back. They took a minute in quietness to stare at everything around them. One of them broke the silence after the minute.
"Maybe the Mole is good! …for choosing beautiful places like this for us to play?" Isabelle chimed up optimistically. "It's just so pretty, actually! Maybe they think that we needed a break!" Everyone turned to the dog's words.
Joker: The Mole...good? What other humorous insights do you have in store, Isabelle?
"Peaceful…it really is, indeed," Lucina whispered to herself, trying to convince herself that the rest of the game would be quiet.
"Peaceful, you say, Lucina?" Joker questioned, smiling at her. "Remember how peaceful the turtle looked when it first sailed across the sea?"
And then…there was a sudden screech. A sudden cry. Everyone looked up, startled.
"Oh…oh my gosh! Up...up there!" Isabelle shouted. "I hear something! I see...?"
"What is it?!"
ScreeeeeEech! There was a piercing cry from above them…of a flying animal. Isabelle pointed to an orange-reddish creature soaring in the sky. The players were hit with surprise at the sudden appearance of the flying body…for it was indeed a creature…but an unusual one. Their eyes were wide with disbelief.
"A flying…bird?"
"So funny! And red! It kind of reminds me of…KAZOOIE!" DK chuckled out loud, his face lighting up. Then, the monkey king's eyes suddenly changed. "It really did look like her..." His expression and mouth changed to sudden gloominess…and his mood obviously shifted on the mountain.
Isabelle looked up, feeling sad as well. "Oh, of course! She's here to return to the game!" Isabelle joked with glee. "She didn't really fly off!" Everyone smiled at her words.
But the truth was…they knew it wasn't true. Kazooie was never flying back. The players were silent, and just melancholy, for a few seconds. No longer six. Numbers dwindled down forever.
DK shook his head, shaking away any emotions he was feeling. "Anyways…what even is that thing?!" They stared at it, as it got closer to the ground. The players were in its shadow.
"A pterodactyl…" The extinct animal existed in their world. They looked at the soaring creature in awe.
"I had never seen one before."
"And it's a holding a…!"
Suddenly, the flying animal dropped something from its grasp. The players stepped away in surprise as the green object fell down to the earth.
"Look out!" It was small, but heavy enough to leave an impact in the snow as soon as it landed. The large vegetable dropped from so high above that when it landed on the mountain top surface, it sunk deep into the white snow…not seen anymore.
"Where'd it go?!" DK stammered. "Ahh! We gotta get it!" The players approached the spot on the mountain it had landed.
"Hmm...let's begin our game." Joker stepped forwards, and reaching with his black gloves, he dug into the snow…and after a few seconds, he raised his eyebrow…and unearthed what the players had thought they had seen falling in the sky.
"A gift from a red bird…thank you Kazooie."
It was a head of lettuce.
In a cave…a young boy with unused wings was all alone. The air was frigid, and the cave was dark. No one else was present in the small cavern, but the dark angel.
But, despite the pitch black of it all, there was enough light shone into the cave from its entrance that enabled him to see his own hands, and his own body, and when he looked at a shiny wall of ice in front of him…his own face. Dark Pit stared at his reflection, almost in surprise upon the icy wall in front of him. He stared for a second. Then, after a few seconds, he quickly looked away in disgust.
"A mirror…that's always me," he whispered, in a voice so quietly that even the dark angel himself could barely hear his own voice and speaking to himself in the dark cave.
As he looked around, he saw various icicles littering the top of the cave's ceiling, ready to fall any second. And as he turned to the side, he saw the ground, cracked ice, looking as if it could open any second and swallow him whole. Underneath the ice, something red and circular shined to him. He blinked. He didn't know how to feel.
Dark Pit: Everywhere I saw, there was danger. But…it didn't matter. I was alone. And it was perfect. Wasn't it? Of course it was. Wasn't it all...just perfect?
A wind swept through the pitch black of the cave.
"It's fine…I...I really like being alone," he spoke to himself. But when the words left his mouth, he realized with alarm that it was forced speaking. A forced voice that was barely above his initial whisper from before. He forced it…because it gave him conflict and sadness as he spoke it out loud. And when he sighed, he saw the cold air from his breath, visible, as if it was his own self trying to escape his body.
Dark Pit looked down. He felt conflicted...and depressed. "Who am I...?" he whispered, shuddering from the cold.
And as the minutes went by in the cave of darkness and isolation…he thought more...alone.
Dark Pit: Or maybe…just maybe...just sometimes we aren't meant to be alone.
Rule-Changing Mountain
2 Hours and 30 Minutes left...
Upon the mountain top, the four individuals stared at the vegetable in confusion. The head of lettuce was strongly green, contrasting the white snow…it was almost blinding…inviting…mysterious…
"Um...lettuce?" Isabelle gasped. She looked unsure, looking at the others first. DK laughed out loud, the loudest among them all.
"It's one of those darn vegetables the host was talking about!" he shouted in memory to the rules.
"Well…what can we say?" Joker said with a subtle smile, interested in continuing their game. "Thank you, Kazooie, for making our game more mysterious. And difficult to decide." As Joker then shrugged and put the lettuce head back upon the snow, the players stared at it….thinking. The lettuce seemed plain...but had tiny words upon its side. Lucina stared at it, wide-eyed.
"But it was good we were here at the top of the mountain to see it drop," Lucina realized, her eyes wide. "Otherwise…it would have just been hidden…buried in the snow…lost…"
"And we would have never, ever seen the vegetable!" Isabelle gasped, smiling too. "It's good we were up here on the mountain top to see it fall in the first place!"
"We must read it..." Everyone looked closely at a written inscription on the side of the lettuce.
This game is called, "Rule Changing Iceberg".
Stay here until the timer ends…all five of you…and win 40,000 coins
The players looked at each other...confused and uncertain of what actions to do next within the snowy game.
"Verbatim to the host's very own words in the beginning of the game," Joker realized with a smile. "Less...the curious, changed word, of course." No one moved.
"Those are the same rules as before," DK laughed. "Nothing new!" But everyone else seemed to shake their heads.
"The very name of the game itself… is different, DK," Lucina whispered, looking at the others carefully.
DK: Uhh….what?! Huh? Then after a second…Oh…now I then got it. I just can't read!
"Whoa, whoa, so whoa…wait! What does that even mean?!" DK began, his expression confused at the lettuce on the ground. "And if we eat it and accept it…is what's written gonna happen?" He scratched his head.
"An iceberg? Heehee!" Isabelle wondered, looking around. "Where is there even an iceberg? There really is nothing even here…" She giggled a little. But the others seemed to know.
"Umm…you doooo know that this stage turned into an iceberg when the top of this mountain cracks," DK said straightly to her in realization.
"Oh…now I remember," Isabelle gasped, wide-eyed. The dog seemed embarrassed, smiling.
Lucina looked to the ground she was standing on. "I cannot imagine, as a player in this game, this stage falling away…this mountain…it feels different than when we had sometimes been upon it before during battles. This large mountain cracking…and sliding…it gives me a sense of unnerved feelings. I...do not like it at all."
Lucina: This was another world. I could feel it. The cold…was different. Where had the Mole brought us? Where had they brought himself, or herself, to as well? Why had they chosen such decisions?
"Funny: I don't think I've even fought on this stage once at all," Joker laughed, shaking his head. "This is just really all new to me, truly. Anyway. Hmm." He sighed, thinking in concentration. "Whether we all decide to slide away or not on an iceberg…is up to us, however. Who has a first say, hmm? Who will speak first" The green rules on the lettuce shined to them all again.
This game is called, "Rule Changing Iceberg".
Stay here until the timer ends…all five of you…and win 40,000 coins.
"Well…what are we gonna do?" Isabelle piped up, staring at the green vegetable on the ground in front of them, wondering. "Do we accept it? Do we give it up?! Do we say yes? Do we fear out and say no?! Are we adventurous? Or just scared?! Yes? No?! I'm just not sure what to do!"
"Hey! I'm not SCARED!" DK shouted up.
"But…what truly is the right decision?" Lucina wondered, her mind thinking. "Do we accept this name change, or not?"
"Well…one thing is for sure," Joker began slowly, smiling with a bit of slyness and looking at the others. He stood tall among the others.
"And… what is that?" Lucina asked him carefully.
"One thing that is for sure…is that, I do like adventures. You all know I do," Joker smiled subtly, speaking a little carefully. Everyone was surprised at what he said…but at the same time, not at all one bit by the player's statement.
"You are leaning…towards the action of pushing the mountain top off?" Lucina thought, surprised. "Your decision seems…hasty."
"But I don't see why not," Joker began to reason more. "We are here at this mountain top for a reason. We were able to see the pterodactyl drop the lettuce. We earned it for being astute and observant. Cracking this mountain…" His eyes looked certain, "…is perhaps a prize."
"Oh my gosh!" said Isabelle, looking shocked at his words. "You think we should really push this mountain top off?! Umm…"
"Wait…" DK began, looking at the others excitedly. "We SHOULD float off into the darn sea! JOKER'S RIGHT!" The large monkey jumped up and down, as if he was trying to crack the mountain top off and away himself. Everyone turned to him in surprise.
"Oh, why?!" Isabelle asked him, her face stunned. "Why would you decide so, DK?!"
"This is the first time I've ever agreed with Joker," DK said with a small shrug, "but I think we should tip off this mountain and begin a new game. We all came here for adventures, right? And adventures are… adventures! Sure, we're all trying to figure out who the Mole is here, right? But in the end of all things, actually, that's not the main goal of this all when it's all over, after many years! Cause after many years, we're gonna remember our ADVENTURES, not the darn identity of the Mole! So it doesn't mean we can't have fun! We have to have fun! Maybe that's the main goal of our game! We must continue on in the philosophy of reveling in adventures and just having something simple for our time being! Something that we can build for our future memories! Not just about stressing about the identity of this darn Mole every second of our lives!"
Everyone looked at him, wide eyed at his many words. They were both silent and impressed.
"Oh…my gosh…well! …being an iceberg could be fun," Isabelle thought with consideration at his verbose, inspiring speaking. She smiled widely. "Lets GO!"
DK: Yeah, Isabelle!
"However…everyone…" Lucina stepped up a little hesitantly, her eyes different from all the others, "We should still consider all...available options. What if cracking into an iceberg brings…unseen consequences? For us all?"
"I believe the game would be really boring with just us on this mountain waiting for the pterodactyl to just drop vegetables every hour." DK shrugged and thought in reply, chuckling.
"But we have to consider…all possibilities," Lucina said quietly, a bit of concern on her face. "We do not know what this mountain becoming an iceberg… truly entails."
"If it beats lying down and boringly tanning, then I'm down!" DK retorted loudly, almost countering. The two seemed at a feud.
"I'm…not sure!" Isabelle said, looking worriedly at the three around her. "Ahh! I say I'm in between!" Everyone turned to Joker, wanting his final input. He had suggested the idea first among them four.
Joker: And of course: I would stick with it.
"Let's have an adventure then…fun, you would say, DK," he smiled calmly, and he smirked, and hearing this, the others nodded. And he picked up the lettuce. And the others saw it in his hands
"We must now accept…as we carefully choose to make a decision…on top of this mountain…and lean towards the decision to crack it…to change the rules. To become an iceberg. The rules will change. And as we reflect on how this will affect us all—-"
"Yeah!" And before he could do anything, DK jumped forwards, pushing off from the ground from his big arms in a jump…and with a leap, enthusiastically chomped off the entire side of the lettuce head in one gigantic, unbelievable, big swipe of teeth within the air. The other three stared at him in disbelief at what he did, the vegetable falling to the snowy ground from Joker's hands, Joker stepping back in surprise. DK just stood a few feet away from them, having landed, munching.
"What the…" Joker began.
DK: I was too excited!
"Such an animal."
"What's wrong, human?!" DK replied. "Don't look at me like that!"
"We're just animals!" Isabelle stated to Joker, offended.
"You literally, seriously ate half the lettuce out of my hands!"
"Well, if you weren't so DARN slow—!"
CRAAAAAAACK…
A sound from below made all of them freeze. There was silence in the air. A silence of dread in the freezing world. Everyone stopped talking, and they faced each other. And then…they looked down at their now-rumbling ground.
Lucina: Oh no…
The mountain was slowly, and finally, cracking, bit by bit, piece by piece, foot by foot…terror by terror
"Everyone: grab onto…something! Now! We must, this instant!" Lucina yelled, her eyes worried. The players looked around frantically.
"There's… nothing here!" Isabelle shouted frantically, screaming. "Oh my gosh! We're going to fly off!? Somebody help me!"
"Nooo! I won't fly off this game!" DK bellowed. "Not until the game begins for real! I wanna play! I WANNA PLAY TO THE END!"
"You won't make it to the end if you keep yelling instead of taking action," Joker sighed, amused. But even he looked to the ground in alarm.
"Everyone: dig your hands and legs into the deep snow!" Lucina ordered. "I believe it'll hold us in place!" Everyone did so, thrusting first their arms, then their own legs, into the thick layers of the snowy top. It was deep enough to sink their limbs into...and hopefully enough to keep them safe.
The four players got ready for the unimaginable plummeting that was to come.
"Brace…yourselves!"
The entire mountain seemed to crumble. Rocks shifted out of place. Sounds of cracking, shattering ice deafened their ears, and snow began to shake everywhere into the air from severe vibrations. They felt as if the mountain had turned into a volcano of coldness, erupting in the icy world. They saw crack after crack appear in the very mountain top surface they were on. Everyone was unprepared.
We're…going to start sliding!" A thunderous roar erupted. After another second, the entire top of the monumental creation of nature had finally, completely displaced itself several feet to the let…and everyone gasped, realizing that they were now slightly moving.
"Hold on!"
"Here we go….AHHHHHHHH!"
And then the entire mountain top began to slide off the side of Icicle Mountain.
All screamed as the cold mass of land began to slide down the side of the mountain, and with every passing second, it began descending faster and faster down the side of the large creation that was Icicle Mountain. The players could barely see, wind, ice, and snow hitting their faces, blistering and painful, and after a few seconds, they didn't bother to look up anymore. Their bodies hurtled down towards the Earth along with the entire mass of mountain…thousands of feet below. They grabbed on as tight as they could in the thick snow.
"AHHHHHHH!" They all screamed as the landslide of ice continued down, unrelenting and unstopping.
Lucina: We had no idea where our final destination would be. We prayed.
DK: Let it end! Let it end!
They slid more. Everyone dug their arms and faces deeper into the snow, fearful. The entire mountain top slid at unimaginable speed down the very side it once belonged to. Ice continuously chipped and flew into the air, being thrown into their bodies and faces. They kept their faces down, ducking.
And then…after almost three minutes…a splash.
Splash! A rocking disruption made them all fall to their sides, their bodies partially coming out of the snowy ground as their land tilted to the side. They tried to regain their balances as quickly as they could, alarmed, but then, after a few seconds of knowing they had finally landed, were able to quickly calm down. They looked around, dizzy and stunned, trying to get to their feet. They were no longer on the top of a mountain, they realized. It took almost an entire minute since their landing to finally stand up…and take in where they had arrived, albeit dazed.
They were now floating on the Arctic water. The players looked around at the blue surface that their land was floating on. The chilly waters existed. It could almost be touched by them.
"Oh wow…" Isabelle was the first one to realize, jumping up and down happily. "Wow! Wowww! We're here at the bottom! We all made it!" She let out a gleeful cry of excitement. The others were amazed. But their faces changed to relief, and even smiles.
"No way…" The players looked around their floating piece of land. Blue, icy waters surrounded them. The ocean was real, and multiple glaciers could be seen to their sides upon the water. They looked backwards and saw that they were drifting away…away from Icicle Mountain. The top of the mountain was gone. Now, they were floating away."
"Well, farewell, Icicle Mountain," Joker said with a wave of his glove to the mountain, smiling cleverly and continuing, "because… are now upon the beautiful…Icicle Iceberg. Hehe. Alas, our game is forever changed." He faced the others. "But one thing doesn't change...the mysteries surrounding us all." The players looked at each other. They realized the game indeed changed….and they weren't sure if it was for the better or for worse.
Rule-Changing Iceberg
2 Hours left...
They passed beautiful glaciers. And other floating pieces of ice. Nothing was happening for the time that the players admired the new lands in which they floated across. But…they were content that nothing was happening. And the Mole was content, too. They didn't have to do anything. At least…not yet.
Isabelle smiled, having just sat on the edge of the iceberg, looking at the cold, ocean view for a long, long time. And after many said minutes of doing nothing but smiling, she turned to face the players. "So, I thought about it a lot, and I'm so glad I'm in the game still! I really like it all and I feel lucky! I think all the adventures and exploring...sort of counter the tension and tense feelings we've been experiencing from this Mole mystery amongst us!" The others couldn't help but feel at least slightly the same.
"I guess!" DK stated, with half-doubt as well as half-agreement. He wasn't sure. "I do feel bad for everyone who was executed before us! I also feel guilty for being here! Survivor's guilt, man..." He looked to the water, just sighing.
"We all deserve to be proud for having survived five rather grueling and surprising executions," Joker spoke, nodding to the others. He smirked. "I know very much well that I am."
"Not… all of us," Lucina whispered, her eyes careful. "One of us…has been an enemy. And has had a free pass of security with no worry. This whole, very time." The players were silent.
DK: Dark Pit...Isabelle...Joker...Lucina...who was the Mole?! There were four of them!
"...so…who do you all even think the Mole is anyway, huh?" DK deciding to speak up, the important question asked from his mouth to the others on the iceberg. Everyone was silent at his question. The other three exchanged glances slowly.
"Hmm...I'd rather not answer that," Joker said, suddenly grinning a bit. "I don't want to give my astute observations about the Mole away to you all." He chuckled. "I'm afraid you'd only understand if you were as smart and adept as me."
Joker: They had to earn it themselves. The answer to who the Mole was.
"Well, me neither!" Isabelle chimed, looking a little guiltily at DK. "But like, I've taken really good notes up until now in my notebook. And I think it'd be quite unfair to just give them away. For free at least. I'm sorry, DK!" She smiled in a polite manner to him.
"Just wondering!" DK chuckled, unoffended, taking a step back. "But…but..." He smiled largely, as the other three faced him at his sudden demeanor and voice change. "I...wouldn't mind giving my OWN opinions about who the Mole could be! We need to be vocal and open about our opinions! Hey: I'd even do it right now!" Everyone looked at the brave ape, some of their eyes curious...but most eyes startled.
"We'd rather…not hear them," Lucina said quietly, and she looked silently at DK. "I think we should keep the rest of this iceberg traveling in peace." She looked solemnly to the others, and then to the sea. "The last thing we want…is us feuding and fighting on this very precarious ice from risen tension." The others seemed to slowly nod in agreement. DK sighed.
Very far…in the distance…they saw the pterodactyl, flying high, a speck of red...searching the original mountain in which they had departed from. They thought they could almost hear it.
And then, five minutes passed. Until Joker spoke a little differently in tone to his speaking nearly an hour before.
"I also hope…just hope...cracking the mountain into an iceberg…was indeed the right choice as a group," Joker stated with a hint of hesitation in his voice. He chuckled, but at his sudden line, DK faced him with total disbelief.
"WHAT!" The big ape jumped up, he himself almost tipping the iceberg over itself as he went to Joker's side. Lucina and Isabelle tried to keep their balance, startled. "You wanted to tip the mountain into an iceberg thirty minutes ago…THEN you're stating now that you regret your decision? Stick to a mindset, man!"
"With hindsight only, truly…it'd have been impossible to determine then while on the mountain," Joker shrugged strongly. "Oh…well."
Lucina: Sometimes, we do not know if decisions we make are right or wrong. But also: are decisions made innocuously, or insidiously?
"Haha, well, I'm not a quitter like you…I'm sure this was the right choice," DK continued with a face of encouragement and voice of self-confidence, standing overly-courageously at the iceberg's edge. "Setting off to new lands is what explorers and kings do! And all of this is FUN! And the Mole probably hates it right now that we're sailing off on this iceberg! I think we made the right choice!"
"So you think this is all fun…it may very well be…but at what cost does your fun come at?" Joker said to him slyly.
"Hey, man, I thought we were on the same side here! We all were! We chose to do this for an adventure!" DK sighed, not liking his speaking at all.
"I did not…however..." Lucina couldn't help but say quietly. They turned to her.
Lucina: Heed with caution…a line I always tell myself. But two players, such as Joker and DK, did not heed to such proverbs. And consequences perhaps follow, unfortunately.
"I don't want to throw blame…but…" Isabelle began, but she smiled, changing her mind and not saying anything else.
Isabelle: I really think I have to throw the blame onto these two male players! Choosing to turn this platform into an iceberg was maybe an act of sabotage, seeing how adamant they both were in doing so.
Joker: If turning our game into an iceberg was a bad choice, I could not be the only one blamed. Hehe.
"You do know if this was a bad choice…this iceberg transformation…everyone is to blame, really," Joker said with a little smirk to his opponents. "You weren't so against flipping the ice away yourself, Isabelle…being so passive… but wanting to secretly tip the iceberg too."
"Oh my gosh…what!" Isabelle gasped to him, shocked, standing up from the ice. "You are just making insubstantial, unfounded accusations!" She turned to Lucina. "Oh, I don't want this! If anyone, Lucina is the one that we should at least claim as innocent! She didn't want to do this iceberg thing in the first place!" Lucina looked at her, surprised.
"And neither did Dark Pit," Joker laughed.
And then suddenly…everyone froze in realization.
"Where is even… Dark Pit?" Lucina whispered. Everyone had forgotten about him.
"Uhh…weren't you all watching that little kid?" DK said, trying not to be guilty. Since they had all fallen off the monumental hill, they hadn't given their isolated player a second thought.
"Oh no.."
"Is he even…alive?" DK asked, dumbfounded and scratching his head. "Maybe it's good! We executed us into one less player! Hah!"
"Oh no, don't even say that!" Isabelle said, fearful. Everyone started walking towards the edge of the iceberg, at where below, the cave should have existed. They nervously looked over the edge, seeing first the heated platform, which was surprisingly right on the surface of the water, getting splashed every so often. Then, they saw that the entrance of the cave was still there. The walls around the entrance seemed cracked, broken from the mountainous fall.
"Dark Pit! …?" DK called out.
"Are you…there?"
There was no response.
And then, his head popped out.
"Huh?" Dark Pit asked, peeking out from the cave. The young angel was alive. And everyone sighed with relief and smiles. Because, though they were all enemies and opponents in a game of five dwindled, competing players left…they were also teammates and friends who came to know one another after many days and weeks, and they couldn't help but feel at ease, and even a little happy, seeing their youngest player alive on the floating iceberg of death. They looked down at him, his body and face confused.
"We just wanted to make sure you were, like, okay!" Isabelle called down to him, smiling. "We're so relieved!"
"Yeah…stop isolating from us!" DK laughed. "We want you here with us! Come join us!" Dark Pit's eyes looked surprised. At their words. He truly didn't know what to say to them.
Dark Pit: For the first time in my life…I felt like I was wanted.
Dark Pit walked up the little slope and joined them. All five of them were now together.
"We are…glad," Lucina whispered, relieved.
"And we have several questions for you," Joker began with a suspicious eye.
"You answer questions first, pretty boy," Dark Pit grinned back, eyes gleaming back at him.
"Okay," Joker sighed, shrugging. "What is your question?"
"Well, first of all, why the hell was I upside-down, defying gravity on the ceiling of the cave like thirty minutes ago?" Dark Pit began with disbelief. The other four were silent.
"…sorry…" DK laughed. "We fell like…ten-thousand feet from the sky! I took a bite from this lettuce vegetable to change the game! Like an iceberg lettuce into an iceberg…kinda punny! You missed a lot!" Dark Pit looked lost beyond words.
"We made a unanimous…well, a nearly unanimous decision…to send the top of the mountain…down to the water," Lucina explained further to him. Dark Pit, though baffled, got it.
"Wow. Why." Dark Pit asked. He sighed. "Why did we have to change the game. Why. Why couldn't we just wait in peace? You're always doing this, doing that. Why do we have to change stuff. Are you sure that was even the right decision? "
"Of course it was the right, darn choice!" DK shot up enthusiastically, looking at everyone else for support. "Change is good! That's just like life? Right, guys? Riighhht?"
"Uhhh…" Isabelle began, looking away.
"Now we sail off in a funner, floating game! …unless you're boring and would've just preferred us just sitting boringly atop the mountain!" DK finished more, grinning.
"Uhhhhhhhh…" Isabelle began again.
"I would just say," Joker began, his eyes smiling, "I'm just very careful and accurate in making revisions to my own thoughts when I sense that my own opinions should be changed. And I think…pushing that iceberg…was not the best decision."
"Then did we all screw up?" DK moaned in shock. "You're smarter than me, Joker. You would know!"
"We…do not know yet," Lucina tried to affirm to them. "I just...wish we had thought further."
Isabelle: Any one of us could be the Mole. We made the iceberg fall! But who was the biggest culprit?
Joker: Or maybe the Mole tried not to send the iceberg off. Using reverse psychology to make us do it. Lucina...for example.
Lucina closed her eyes. "Whatever was chosen...was chosen. We cannot look back at the past and wish that actions we took were different."
"I guess," Dark Pit said, nodding.
"In addition, however, unfortunately, it's easier for one of us to fall off this slippery iceberg too," Joker stated with dismay, pacing away from the others and testing his footing. "With this ground cracked to a floating ice…we may also trip simply from walking or swaying."
"At least I have these orange boots, keeping me safe from slipping at all!" Isabelle said gleefully, patting them on the ground.
"Y'all are weird. But whatever. I just slept again after all of you guys' dumb decision." Dark Pit's face was a mixture of tiredness…but also, amusement. Something had happened. He was also…holding something peculiar.
"Why are you holding a…" Everyone saw a red object in the hand of the young player. All he could do was shrug with a smile. It was a tomato.
"Oh…heh. I found it in the ground."
"Where? In the cave?" Joker began suspiciously. "It seemed empty when we first all looked into it, Dark Pit." Dark Pit smiled.
"Yeah…" DK eyed him closely, obviously looking skeptical. "Something doesn't add up…! Who are you? The mole, digging for vegetables?"
DK: A winged Mole!
"Haha, I don't even have a good explanation," Dark Pit said honestly, "but when I woke up… the tomato was there…right in a section of the cracked ice." Everyone stared, thinking.
"Wait, in the ice?" Isabelle began. "Not on? Wow!"
"Yep."
"I don't get it…" DK began, looking confused.
"The ground opened up. Probably when the iceberg tipped. Beats me."
"What do you mean 'the ground just OPENED up'?!" DK demanded with a laugh. "You're making no sense, man! Grounds don't just OPEN up!"
"Honestly, I'm sounding really stupid right now, but that's what happened. It literally opened up."
DK: He chose the cave JUST to be able to grab the tomato! He's clearly the Mole!
Dark Pit: Someone's acting a little too confused, DK. Not that hard to understand that some grounds open up. You're so dumb.
Lucina: If I were in the cave...the temptation to take the tomato...would I have done it?
"Well, this one obviously did. Look yourself in the cave. The ice literally opened up, and hidden in the ground was a tomato, and a weird note saying, 'Have a tomato fight'." Dark Pit pointed to the ledge with the cave. DK folded his arms.
"No, wait," Lucina began, facing the others. She closed her eyes. "The mountain falling off and away…and since the cave is at the very bottom part of this iceberg…then that means that when the mountain fell off…and the land shifted out…Dark Pit is right..."
"Finally!" Dark Pit said. "Thank you!"
"It… cracked…?" Isabelle wondered. "Oh no…I knew it!"
"So the tomato appeared when the mountain top turned into an iceberg…?" Joker laughed. He felt the misery of it all.
Joker: Decisions, decisions. Bad decisions.
"We shouldn't have cracked the mountain!" DK moaned to the others. Everyone faced him.
"Well...Donkey Kong...who's fault is that," Joker grinned at him. DK gave a face of pure defeat to the tall gentleman.
Joker: He knew this was a wrong decision. Perhaps he knew from the start.
Isabelle: I didn't like how everything we chose was a bad choice!
"Umm, so what do we do now?!" Isabelle said quickly. "Can we go back to the mountain top?! Cause I really think we all screwed up and made us fall! Maybe we can float back to the mountain!"
"Umm...not likely..." Lucina whispered with dismay.
"Also, Dark Pit, hmm, maybe you are lying, and you had the tomato in your pocket all along yourself? Or are you pretending it was in the ice?" Joker said to Dark Pit slyly.
"I could have…" Dark Pit said, smiling at the other player, "but I don't have any pockets. Beat yah." Joker looked at him again, and sighed.
"Fair enough…" Joker shrugged.
"Joker…haha… I do notice that you have LOTS of pockets!" DK observed, staring suspiciously at and looking at Joker's coat and body from all sides. He gave a suspicious, grinned smile to the unmasked man. "Mind if we check your pockets of your interesting coat and see if you're hiding something?! Like a note from producers?" Joker stopped. He faced DK.
"Go ahead…you'll be wasting precious time on this precious iceberg, however," Joker said, trying to smirk.
"Could we kindly stop suspecting each other…for…a few seconds? A small moment?" Lucina spoke to them. "We will not get anywhere in our present circumstances with these arguments and ill feelings. We must stop...and think in silence." The three male players, Dark Pit, DK, and Joker, turned to the resolute princess. And stopped.
Everyone was quiet. The iceberg continued to float across the sea...all five of them on it, the gigantic land gently floating down the Arctic ocean. It had been more than one full hour since their game had begun. Another minute passed. It was serene…but tense. Isabelle spoke up, again.
"So, I wonder how many vegetables…we will truly get this game," Isabelle thought joyfully and fearfully. "And what else is in store…!" Lucina looked to the water.
"We should not change the rules anymore," Lucina said to the others in a quiet voice.
Lucina: Lest terrible things occur.
They were again, quiet. They thought about their predicament on the slowly-drifting iceberg. Some of them stared at the cold water that existed nearly twenty feet below their very icy platform: they couldn't imagine being knocked down into the frigid existence, so they felt safe. They thought about their game. They thought about the different worlds they had been to, and all the executed players who had left in each one. Fox, Peach, Lucario, Wii Fit, Kazooie...
And they thought about the identity of the Mole.
Everyone thought in silence.
Then, Dark Pit coughed, making a sound.
"Anyways, didn't know when to reveal this, but...I took a bite out of that tomato. Sorry. Not sorry. Kinda sorry." Everyone turned to him.
"Huh…WHAT!" DK looked with panic at the half-bitten tomato Dark Pit was holding, glaring in pure shock. "No...darn...way!" Everyone looked panicked, but confused.
"Wait…but…!" Isabelle began, looking alarmed and curious to Dark Pit with her wide eyes, "…what…did the tomato even say…?" She had asked the question everyone was wondering. "Is it bad? It...I can't believe it…" Isabelle gasped, covering her face in worry.
Everyone looked at the youngest player of the group together. And the dark-clothed boy just looked back at them…but there was something in his eye. A bad gleam. A mischievous gleam…as if he had done something bad that he shouldn't have done. It was as if he was a kid at a playground of five that had thrown sand into the face of another kid, or in this case, icy snow into his teammates. And he smiled fully…and quite playfully and evilly…and the other players saw his bright teeth in the icy sun for the first time…the very ones he used to bite into the fateful tomato. He chuckled.
"Here you go," he said nonchalantly, the dark angel tossing the bitten food to the icy ground for them to see. He smiled. "I'm sorry, but, well…let the fun begin."
Lucina: Oh no…
Joker: Oh yes, DK. This is the fun you wanted.
And they all just couldn't believe the awful decision their youngest player had made. And after reading the tomato…all five players faced each other upon the ice with dread.
This game is called, "Survival Iceberg".
For 100 Plus 1's, fight each other off this iceberg and be the sole survivor standing.
...AHHH!
Why? Why?! Why, players, do you always do this to yourselves?!
Well, so haha, what will the players themselves do next chapter? What will even happen to them?! Will they work together? Or will they die one by one?!
(everyone who knows my past stories knows which path is more likely xDDD but...hey! maybe I changed!)
Anyways, once again wanted to thank everyone who had written reviews for the past chapters :) It really means just so, so much. I can't thank you all enough and your words are just more than treasury ice! :)
And thank you for reaching this new episode with me! :) It indeed feels like a new world and a new chapter era. The rest of this episode will come soon! Hopefully more quickly than slowly, lol haha. But I promise to make it a good one with multiple surprises!
The next part to come soon!
Dark Punxysaur: I don't know if you know this, but you eloquently summarize SO well! :D The way you wrote and summarized the events of the Turtle game, and pinpoint the highlights of suspicious actions of players, so perfecto! *pasta kiss* What is up with falling off the turtle by Joker? Purposely as a genuine player or as the Mole? Or did he even fall off himself? And I love your predictions of who's going to be executed next! :) Because it adds another mystery and question to be thought about! DK really did seem to be raising a red doom flag talking about his experiences and opinions in the game xD He's indeed also done smart enough in the group. Why doesn't he acknowledge it? Isabelle and Joker chatting is indeed so weird! And what is Isabelle's true mind thinking? Does she actually suspect players like Lucina or Dark Pit, or is she faking it all out? A slip-up by the Mole?! :) wow! I'm trying to think which past Mole story that could have been too! In my series, it's def. happened once or twice actually, haha. Dark Pit making it to the end, let's cheer him on! So I really liked your bold quiz taking l! If Lucina is indeed the Mole, then we might have a true competitor here for the victory :) Along with your colors and houses theory! and YAY! IM glad to know that the executed player finally surprised you! Usually, at least the first three episodes, they were so predictable xD Though I'm sad to see Kazooie not make it further in the game :'( at least her departure had an element of surprise, finally!
Derick Lindsey: The execution curse was right! :O A character of Smash Ultimate is gone! I'm not gonna lie, I'm surprised it lined up so well with the eliminated characters being chronological with the games haha, totally unplanned! I love too that Kazooie was able to fly on her own terms :) Poor Dark Pit indeed! In the game of the Mole, the stress just continues and really never stops huh :( Really good points and finding potential flags concerning Isabelle possibly being the Mole! Those being that she "grabbed onto Joker" on the turtle and even also her giving of two pages of notes seeming a bit off :o what is the truth? So we are definitely relying on DK to break this doggone execution curse, huh? Do it for Kazooie, King of the Jungle! :D hehe. Yeahh, Dark Pit totally took a frustration turn on Lucina! You could almost say poor Lucina, but honestly she handled it well and was able to compose herself :) As for Dark Pit, will he soar as the final winner? And nice final three prediction! :D Could it really be DK and Dark Pit fighting for the last spot, with Isabelle as the cunning Saboteur? Time will tell! Thanks for your review! :)
SakuraDreamerz: I totally LOVED Kazooie's antics too! T.T I'm as devastated as you are! Writing her leaving…was just too painful, lol. I kept on rewriting her execution leaving over and over and adding more and more each time, cause she deserved it haha :) Yeah, the team deserves their money win! They really pushed forth to work together and succeed as a group in the end :) And what was up with Joker falling off the turtle? Just what did it mean? What was he talking about? :o And yeahhh! I'm happy the players were able to enter the universe or Skyward Sword :) It's just a magestic, great feeling of a place. And where the players go next…I don't think anyone would suspect at all xD!
DealthourX: I will Belgium Mole binge soon! :D I'mma gonna dedicate a portion of my free upcoming autumn time to binging this original Mole than I'm shocked to even call myself a true Mole fan without having seen! XD Haha, Kazooie had broke the 4th wall several times in her dialogue; mentioning smashing and fighting and all that funny stuff. I'm so glad you caught onto little things like the cook and the meat and the grill! :D I actually like putting small details like that with reveals later on, so I'm glad you caught it! :) I like your analysis of DK with the turtle book! Really almost trying to write a book Mole analysis of DK himself, you're so smart! :o About Fox, a total LOOOL! Like, you are so right. How in the heck could he not be the first executed player. It's like, so unobvious, but on second glance, obvious. Wii Fit, I understand that she's definitely less liked xD She did cause a lot of "Hmph!" and upstir with the players, haha. Lol at Isabelle's line of no happiness and no joy being mixed with "happily with joy". I like how you're trying to analyze the song of death! :D I knew it would be such a clue target for readers once I included it. I'll say that it's not a clue to the Mole at all, but rather a reference to Kazooie, haha. And super cool suspects list! It's nice to see Dark Pit and DK at the top :) They both have such interesting different characters so to think of them each as the Mole is so unique and outstanding! Lmao at Joker being bumped one up xD Thanks for your awesome review! :)
Cavin856: Hahaha, deus ex machina really does take multiple forms! Captain Falcon, purple plant, Etc xD Really true words: there's no denying that by missing an entire book map, it's really NOT something you can just play off as "oh, small accident, oops!" Innocent acts, or possibly Lucina to heavily blame as mastermind? Oh and yeah! You totally remembered the other incident of another host even-ing out the Total Pot value! Good memory haha ;) You mentioning possibly hidden clues in the meals and foods…all I could think of was "Damnit Cavin, you and your increasing lore giving me goosebumps! :O" hahaha. There have definitely been many bird meat dishes eaten m…and I just knew Kazooie would be looking pretty sus with all of them lmao. So so interesting that you considered the possibility of Kazooie not being genuine to DK! Rereading this chapter, I realized there are some possible nuances too if betrayal :O Wow, really awesome perspective of how Isabelle could be the executed one, in that maybe some players' stories might just be over and nothing to leave development for others. Anyways…yay quiz! :D thanks for taking it! Really like how you answered it perfectly well in balance of Lucina and Kazooie. I laughed at your "uh oh" reaction to Isabelle not getting executed xD What is in store for her? And Kazooie is the victim! :( I'm actually really glad that you suspected her! AsI try to make the executed victims as surprising as possible for readers, something in which I failed to do in some of the previous executions xD Anyways thanks so much for your clue hunting and I am never disappointed by you! :)
Mr. Rainbow Dude: :D Engaged…engaged…ENGAGED?! WHAAA congratulations! I'm so thrilled for you! :D congratulations! Can I please attend and get some virtual cake for the wedding? Haha :) Don't worry, you're so kind for reviewing for the end of this episode and that makes me happy enough! Anyways, Kazooie leaving was definitely a surprise I feel! Even I was like ":o" because I didn't plan her to be executed until I started outlining the first chapters of last episode. She had potential, but died :( Oooh, now you have such a nice choice for a new suspect: Joker ;) Could this dastardly, cool, collected thief be the real secret saboteur among the other unsuspecting four? And HAAH no vendetta against you at all! :D you're one of my beloved reviewers and friends! :) In terms of worlds, you know what's funny? I heavily considered both the Star Fox universe and Metroid to be the next worlds! At least both of them had been thoughts but ultimately I settled for other worlds, but I promise! They are interesting good ones too :)
Salamander: Not gonna brag, but I think writers are some of the coolest people out there ;) Not biased. LOL. But we have an imagination that's unparalleled compared to others. Sometimes amazing, sometimes dangerous, but the magic of putting things on paper and making them real is…just too, too cool. And I'm so glad you're writing! :D Yes, Kazooie being intertwined with the Loftwing! This was NOT even an idea I had until the second chapter of Episode 5! And then I was researching more Zelda worlds…and I saw Skyloft…and I was like, "Red bird like Kazooie? In the air universe that Kazooie could fly off from?" THIS IS MEANT TO BE! :OO" I knew Kazooie would sadly be leaving next, I just didn't know exactly how to make it perfect and meaningful. I'm glad you relate to Dark Pit! I actually totally based like 10% percent of my own sad, dark feelings into writing him, I swear! In a way, I feel like so many people can relate to his emotions. Luckily, they are emotions that are not always present or alive, but luckily, temporary most of the time. I hope for the best for Dark Pit, even though he's fictional :) DK analysis was nice! We don't know truly if he's the Mole or not, so it's weird to think of how is intelligence level could either be fake, dumbed down, Etc. Who knows? Joker putting himself as the "obvious" guy is also a smart tactic if he was the Mole, hmm ;) Your analysis of Isabelle was pretty spot-on! IF she is indeed the Mole, she definitely has a very, very different technique compared to other past saboteurs. I'm so glad you've been following along all my stories :) I laugh in memory at how obvious some clues were in Traitor's Aboard, hahaha, thanks for making me reminisce :) And lastly…your sudden, second review…AHHHHH! You make me panic! (Sweat sweat) xDI actually don't mind at all if you keep posting a suspects list :) I love to hear your thoughts! And if indeed the clue you found was a real genuine clue, then you deserve the clout for finding it first anyway :)
amalgamie: Heyyyy! Whaaa! So good to see you :) Thanks for emerging from the shadows of the dastardly Mole and jumping into…the Mole. Hahaha. It's funny from your perspective, reading Episodes 4 and 5 in immediate succession and seeing Wii Fit and Kazooie getting eliminated one after another…it really is painful compared to longer stagnated updates, lol. Oh WOOWWW. Thanks for putting me in an awesome perspective of a reader :) When you mentioned rereading back to the story and seeing and enjoying Kazooie in a different light because she's not the Mole…that is awesome and makes me reread this story differently too! :D As the author, I always saw her as not the Mole. But to be refreshed into another perspective of her as suspicious to not suspicious…is so cool to see and feel :) I absolutely love love that you wrote entire paragraphs for each players! Thank YOU! :D So DK really is an enigma. From possible references of family to wearing a Yoshi hat, he really has been the secret center of side questions and mystery, and it is odd. Lucina has so many connections to the executed players and I could see that as being both suspicious or not suspicious, in either her closest friend players being victims or as like a meta tragic hero respectively. How cynical am I? ;) Hehe. I love your analysis on Isabelle! Something about the first four episodes…is just quite very different from her now. It's true that's she's definitely evolving in both presence and personality :o and why? Well…I just can't say. The reserve psychology of Joker is definitely something I knew would annoy and struggle readers in the end xD He makes weird decisions sometimes too, and his possible manipulations are not so subtle in the background sometimes, like potentially his involvements with Lucina and Dark Pit. Could he be the Mole? And then Dark Pit, our poor, mentally-struggling player. It's true that he's definitely on a verge of a mental breakdown xD but Moles can have mental breakdowns too, right? Out hatted host leader here Smash Host should really consider a therapist to join the production crew for next season! Haha :) I mean, several players in the past had some too. Anyways I loved your analyses on all the players! Really awesome to read these perspectives! :)
Masking What Remains: Yeah! Kazooie sinking with the turtle was sooo symbolic of her leaving, and also, it was soooo her xD Like, just fitting her personality! It all just made sense and was perfect, bahaa. The final five! It really is down to the final five, huh? :O I can't believe it myself! Any of them leaving would make a big change to the group, I feel. But one thing is very true: Isabelle being here at this point of the game IS surprising. Most would never suspect her to make it to this point. Could she just be frolicking innocently, is she just smart, or could she actually be the Mole? You bring up a great point, hmm (hand on chin emoji face). Anyways thank you for your review! :)
LuaisyLover: Omg don't worry! Times seemed busy; your review was beautiful! :) Omg, Kazooie's departure was indeed sooo sad :( Like you do have a point: her story was done and she served her point and purpose. But I'm still devastated our red bird had to go, whaa….I suppose everyone still has their stories to tell and finish. I LOVE and laugh that you call out how Joker is actually bad at challenges! XD It's like you're literally talking to him and calling him out, lool! But isn't it true? He boasts so much in games and challenges…but hasn't been doing as amazing as he always claims to be. Aww, thank you for saying you felt emotion in my story :') To know that makes me feel emotions! And wow, such a good point! Kazooie did "expose" both Isabelle and DK! :o she really did play such a significant role! Yay Kazooie! :D And Dark Pit grows! Well…the truth is…angsty emo boy is still always angsty emo boy deep down xD Some things never change!
Special shout-out to two amazing people named PSULucky and Princess Toady: I can't properly review apply to you here haha xD it won't make sense! I'm gonna just wait till you reach this part in the story so you can see my shoutout to you guys for being AWESOME and reviewing previous chapters! :) thank you so much! I truly mean it and glad to see you both so, so much!
