"You seem to be enjoying yourself," Sango said, a grin tugging at her lips as she polished hiraikotsu, the giant boomerang currently sitting across her lap.

"Can't imagine what you mean," Kagome replied, blinking innocently. She managed to keep her expression intact for a full six seconds before they both dissolved into laughter. The males at the camp all turned in unison, their raised eyebrows synchronous, and the women only laughed harder.

"We need to come up with our own language," Sango lamented. "How are we supposed to have secrets if they can hear everything?"

Kagome glanced over at Sesshoumaru, his amber gaze warm in the firelight, and she blushed. "I don't know. I kind of like the open honesty."

"I guess I can't fault you for that." Sango shifted closer, lowering her voice. "How'd your walk go?"

Tucking her knees under her chin, Kagome leaned her head towards her friend. "It was fine. Jaken showed up for a little bit, but we got rid of him fairly quickly."

"Leaving you enough time for other things?" Sango asked, wiggling her eyebrow.

Kagome smacked her arm. "You're spending too much time with your husband."

"Doesn't answer my question."

She rolled her eyes, trying to hide her blush. "We just held hands."

"Pity." Kagome gave her an incredulous look. "What? I was expecting something to have happened with how red your face is."

"We're not in any rush," she mumbled, ignoring Sango's raised eyebrow.

"You have no obligations now, Kagome. You're allowed to choose your own speed."

"Maybe I'm enjoying the speed," she argued, tucking a wayward curl behind her ear. "Like you said, no obligations, so we can take our time. There's no pressure, and aside from Jaken, no objections."

"Keh! Just bring a bag of rocks with you next time," Inuyasha called from across the camp. "Or a really big stick." The women started at the interruption, Sango immediately berating him for eavesdropping. "See if I help next time!"

"Just because you can listen doesn't mean you should!" Sango scolded, threatening to use a stick on him.

Kagome caught Sesshoumaru's eye, blushing at his knowing smirk but not looking away. She indulged in the sight, a smile tugging at her lips a moment before Sango wrapped her arm around her neck, pulling her back into hushed conversation, fully aware that he could hear every word.

And trying to ignore the resulting chuckle when she asked about why there were always leaves in her hair when they returned from their walks.
