Inuyasha was less inclined to let things drop, and for once, Kagome was grateful. Keeping Kouga engaged meant he spent less time wooing her, and she still wasn't sure when Sesshoumaru would be back.

Things still felt new and exciting, and though there was no reason for him not to trust her, she wasn't about to push her luck.

She'd never understand how some people enjoyed being fought over. Yuka had shared her view, but for some reason, Ayumi had revelled in it, going as far as to date several boys at once just to see which one was willing to go the extra mile.

No one had gotten hurt, save for their pride, and Kagome secretly hoped her friend had grown out of it by now. Considering those involved with her had claws and fangs, Kagome knew someone was liable to get hurt or even dismembered if things continued.

She'd never enjoyed the fighting, but she hadn't been entirely truthful with Kouga when they'd first met. Things had been tumultuous with Inuyasha, and the wolf's attention had done a lot to bolster her battered heart.

But things were different now, and he didn't deserve to be led on.

Inuyasha landed a hit, sending Kouga flying into a tree with a sickening crunch. The hanyou rolled his wrist, stepping between them, claws still bared. "Back off, wolf-breath. I ain't gonna tell you again."

"Kags," he whined, rubbing his head as he leaned against the trunk. "Tell him I just wanna spend time with my woman." Inuyasha growled, but Kagome laid a hand on his shoulder, giving him a reassuring squeeze.

"Both of you cut it out," she said. Kouga grinned, crossing his arms, his expression turning smug, but she didn't let him speak. "Both of you, Kouga-kun."

His smirk turned to a pout, and he finally got to his feet. "I'm just trying to show ya what it means to be mine."

Kagome's eyes finally hardened. "I'm not yours."
