To recover from what was quite a traumatic event, the students were given the rest of the day off. After the assembly in the hall, most of the students returned to their cabins. Including Red, Blue and Yellow.

Blue was already on his bed by the time Red shut the door behind him, being the last to enter. He too trudged over his bed and flopped onto it.

"I think I'll take a nap guys..." Red's voice drifted off as he slid slowly into dreamland. A choked sound was forced out of his throat when Yellow jumped on his back.

"But you guys have to explain the Typing thing to me." She shook Red. "You said you would."

Blue turned his back to chaos. Out of sight, out of mind after all. "Good luck Red." He said. He wasn't a bad friend after all.

"Oh no." Red said matter-of-factly. Blue yelped as he was suddenly thrown off the bed. "You aren't leaving me to explain by myself." He got up and glared at Red which had no effect whatsoever.

While Blue went back on the bed, sitting upright instead of lying down, Red moved to follow his example. This caused Yellow to fall backwards but she was abruptly stopped mid air. After Red fully sat up, she was moved to sit in the free space on his bed.

"Woah..."

Blue grinned at her,"Weird, right?"

Yellow shook her head furiously in agreement. "But really cool! It feels like you're in a blanket but really tightly without all the bad parts like the darkness and not being able to breath." She smiled,"It's almost nice!"

Red smiled a little at her. "Thanks. So what do you wanna hear first?"

"Can you read minds?"

Red tilted his head as he answered, his face showing his reluctance to answer. "...yes. But only if I want to. Just like I could read thoughts if I wanted to."

"So you can choose to tell what I'm thinking?" Yellow pointed at herself.

"Well for you...I actually can't read your thoughts."

"What?! Why?!"

Blue snorted. They looked over to him and he held up a hand. "I'm sorry. She just sounded so worried about someone not being able to read her mind." He waved them off. "Continue."

Red and Yellow refocused on each other. "As I was saying, I can't read your thoughts. Or to make it more clear, I can't hear any words. I can see images of what you're thinking of and get the general taste of what you're feeling but yeah, that's it."

Yellow frowned but listened as Red began to explain. "I think it's because of your Fairy Typing. Your body is trying to protect you."

"Like how I usually heal faster than others?" Yellow questioned.

He nodded. "Exactly like that." He moved his hand gesture in front of him. "When I read minds, it's like watching a movie. But when trying to read minds of those with Typings, it's like walking through a maze to find the theater. You have a light fog over your maze, making me need to put more effort into navigating it and at the level I am now-" He shrugged. "I can't."

Yellow hummed. "So what about like, Blue then?" She pointed over to him. "Dark types are immune to Psychics right?"

"They aren't immune actually. Imagine you're in an empty room, with a thick black fog. You can feel and hear random stuff around you so you know something is in there but you can't find it. That's how being in a Dark Type's head is like."

Yellow winced,"That's sounds scary."

Red nodded. "Yeah. But if Blue was supposed to meet someone like Sabrina, he would-"

"Sabrina?" Yellow asked.

"The Psychic type gym leader here in Kanto." Blue informed. "And one of the strongest psychics in this region alone." Red added.

"Oh." Yellow was impressed. "But didn't you say people are wary of psychics?"

"Yeah." He shrugged. "She's the most hated gym leader."

"After Blaine." Blue commented.

"Everyone's after Blaine." Red said without looking from Yellow.

"Oh..." Yellow became saddened. Hating someone because of something they couldn't control...She shook her head. She could search about that later.

"So what about if Blue met her?" She asked instead.

"Right. If Blue met her at the stage he is at now, his mind would be read with little to no difficulty."

"Oh." Yellow looked away in thought before looking back at him. "So it's like a matter of who is stronger?"

"Yup." He nodded. "Anything else you want to know?"

"What's it like for you Blue?" She turned to Blue. "Being Dark?" She clarified.

Blue shrugged,"There's actually no way to tell you're Dark unless you're with a Psychic. As for how it is for me...are you familiar with yin and yang?"

Yellow nodded,"It's one of the first things we learn in World History."

She shifted a little on the bed. "It's the philosophy that two interconnected forces interact to affect people's lives and health right?" She recited easily, having done so many times before.

"Yeah, other than Unova and Galar, the other regions doesn't focus on philosophy much. But every single one believes in the concept of yin and yang. Why do you think so?"

"It was proven?" She guessed, feeling it was wrong.

But was surprised when Blue smirked. "It was proven. That's correct." Blue leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. "And it was proven through Dark Types. We are more...aware of our yin and yang." The question in his voice was clear as he seemed unsure explaining the relationship between the two. "Aware enough so we can sort of...control it."

Yellow's eyes widened. "You can control your yin and yang energy?!"

Blue cocked his head to the side. "Sort of? It was done subconsciously for me as a child but I can actually control some of my yang energy now. That's how I'm able to make myself stronger and how I was able to intimidate Kevin into confessing."

Yellow came to a realization. "You were the reason he fainted." Blue nodded,"Using yang energy on non typings take quite a lot as they are not sensitive to it." He pointed to Red,"If I used it on Red however, he would have been in extreme pain."

"Because he is Psychic?"

"Sort of?" Blue shook his head. "The Dark focuses on the soul. That's where your yin and Yang energy accumulates. Psychics are, obviously, the mind. Me and Red have a theory that Fairy is the heart but-" He waved the thought by. "We'll come back to that later."

He made a fist with his two hands. "The soul." He waved his left fist. "And the heart." He waved his right fist. "Work together with the mind. It's a team effort but those two are more closely knit. All three decide who someone is. If the soul, where the yin and yang energy is, attacks the mind, what do you think is gonna happen?"

"The mind will get torn apart?" Yellow guessed. Blue shook his head. "No."

He shook his fist lightly again. "The soul and the heart work together along with the mind. If a team member decides to go off on their own then-"

"The team falls apart." Yellow's eyes widened. "So the heart's gonna be affected with the mind? But then the heart would stop right?" She pointed at Red. "Would he die?!"

The two boys shook their heads. "Not immediately." Blue said. "The heart's soft but it's pretty strong. And if the psychic realizes their soul is being attacked and protects it then they'll be able to prolong or even completely stop it."

"I just haven't reached there yet." Red said. "But I'm practicing."

"What about yin energy? Can you control that?"

"No." He stared at her with an intensity that made her sweat. "And I don't want to." He folded his arms. "When I feel yang, it's active, bold and ready to use. You know what to expect from it. But when I feel yin...it's calm. Cold. It hides what it can really do behind a mask of cool." He shivered. "It scares me. So I try not tinker with it."

She jumped when he suddenly clapped. "So that's it. Any more questions?"

Yellow nodded. "A lot." When they opened their mouths she held up a hand. "But I can see that you're tired so only one more. Does anyone else actually know that you have these abilities?"

"Nope." Blue shook his head. "The other kids just think we're, as in Red, the weird kids of the town who can't talk to anyone. They're just jealous though and feel inferior to us."

Red nodded. "Behind all the comments trying to crush or hopes and dreams are thoughts begging us to talk to them."

Yellow felt put off by the casualty by which they approach their peers behavior but also strangely amused. Then she became curious. "I actually want to know. What do you guys want to do on your journey?"

"I'm gonna be the best Kanto Champion ever existed." Blue smirked. "Might even shoot for World Champion while I'm at it."

"And I just want to be a researcher. A professor actually. But people usually tell me that it's meaningless to do it."

"Why?"

"I mean, we already have a great Professor here in Pallet Town. Why try to be one?"

"Why do we do anything then?"

A laugh burst out of Blue. "Right?"

Red sighed. "It doesn't bother me. I'm doing it anyway because that's what I want to do." He nodded at her. "What about you? What do you want to do?"

Yellow's eyebrows furrowed as she thought. "The townspeople in Hoenn always said I'd make a good doctor. With my healing ability and all. And I love helping people..."

"But it's not what you want to do." Blue finished for her. "You don't think that's selfish?" Yellow asked, looking at her hands. "Having this power but only using it for myself?" She clarified.

"No." Red said, sure of himself. "It's your power. You decide how you want to use it."

Blue leaned in. "So? What do you want to do? Without thinking about others?"

Yellow frowned. Thinking about others was all she did in life growing up. Having never moved out of Littleroot before, healing others was all she knew since she was young. She never actually did something because she wanted to. The realization made her heart squeezed with a deep sadness.

"You don't know."

Yellow met eyes with Red who was looking at her knowingly. Yellow shook her head slowly.

"I don't."

The final day to the summer camp had arrived and it was time for the children of the camp to say goodbye to the friends and Pokémon they met along the way.

"But I don't wanna!" A nearby child cried as his mother recalled his Sentret and handed the ball off to a faculty member. She bent down to rest a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, Juan. You can come again next year."

The boy sniffled and wiped at his eyes,"Really?"

His mom smiled. "Of course."

"Okay." He smiled at her, not entirely enthusiastic but willing. "I'm ready to go home now." His mom got up with a smile and opened her palm for him. He slipped his hand into hers. "Let's go then."

Yellow watched as they walked off. "Poor kid. Everyone's sad to leave their Pokémon."

She looked down at her own pokeball. She still hasn't gotten the courage to hand it in even after recalling Nidoran fifteen minutes ago.

"Hey Yellow, you still have turned that in yet?" Blue's voice came from her left and Yellow turned to see Red and Blue coming her way.

"Ah. No." She looked back down to it, rolling it in her palm. "Even though it's not mine, Nidoran is the first Pokémon other than my mom's that I ever got close with. It's harder to give it back that I thought it would be."

Blue rested his hands on his hip with a sympathetic smile. "Yeah, it never gets any easier even after doing it four whole times. The professors seem to think this will help kids work on grieving if they ever lost a Pokémon."

"The earlier you hand it in is the easier it is." Red suggested.

Yellow nodded. "So I guess you guys handed in yours already. What are you still doing here then?"

"How could we leave without saying goodbye? What kind of friends that would make us?" As Blue grinned and Red smiled, Yellow suddenly felt thankful for the universe for at least granting her the opportunity to meet them. She hugged them. "I'm gonna miss you. Thanks for being my friend."

As Red and Blue remained quiet, Yellow began to wonder if she did something wrong. Did they not like hugs? They seemed pretty comfortable with it before.

"Uh, shrimpy?" Blue's voice came out questioning. Yellow looked up at him. "Why are you saying it like that? We're obviously gonna see each other."

Yellow pulled back from the hug. "But aren't you guys going back to where you live? I'm staying in Pallet so I can't go with you."

Red shook his head with an amused smile. "Yellow, we live in Pallet."

Yellow's face brightened in realization. "Ah..."

"Yeah."

She huffed. "So why didn't you tell me?" She playfully hit Blue on the arm causing him to draw back with an exaggerated pained face. "Why me?!" He cried out.

Red ignored the antics. "We told you that we lived in Pallet Town, didn't we?"

"No you didn't."

"Yes we did." Blue joined in.

Yellow frowned, trying to remember when exactly they did. If the both of them remembered then it must have-She paused when she saw Red's lips twitch.

"You guys are messing with me aren't you?"

Blue and Red shook their head simultaneously at the same speed. It was almost creepy to see. "No." Blue said, the perfect voice of innocence. "Not at all."

Yellow's eyes narrowed. They were definitely messing with her.

"Which right minded teacher gifts their students with a pop quiz as a welcoming surprise for the new school year? That's like–saying "You're doing such a good job at work so here's more work!" It doesn't make any sense!"

Blue held his head as if in pain from simply trying to comprehend the reason behind his teacher's decision.

"But it's just World History right?" Yellow tilted her head. "You're good at that aren't you?"

Surprisingly, Red snorted, not looking away from his book. Blue himself groaned. "I'm actually really horrible at it." As Yellow's eyes widened in shock, Blue nodded. "The fact that I'm even admitting it shows how bad I am."

"But you seemed to really know a lot when we were back at the Summer Camp." Yellow pointed out.

"That's because those topics involved him." Yellow turns to Red who popped a fry in his mouth. "He's actually almost terrible in school." He waved his hand. "Not to say he doesn't learn. But Blue's more of a hands-on, see-it-for-myself, trial and error learner. But school doesn't provide much of that. Hence..." Red gestured to Blue who groaned dramatically as if on cue with his head in the desk.

"Maybe the teacher will give you another chance if you asked."

"Ha!" Blue raised his head. "You haven't met Ms. Hightup have you?"

Yellow shook her head. "No, she's my next class actually."

"Good." Blue laid down on his cheek. "You'll get to experience her cruelty."

"Is she really that bad?" Yellow was starting to worry for her life.

"Yeah, ruthless. Even Red struggles to keep up with her sometimes."

"Even with his..." Yellow pointed to her head.

Red waved her off, his other hand reaching for his juice. "No, I don't use it on people unless I need to." He rested his cheek in his palm. "Plus, it's actually fascinating how she behaves without me knowing her thoughts. It keeps me entertained whenever I see her anger at me acing her little tests."

Yellow frowned. "I hope she goes easy on me."

"She's never gotten transfer students before. Maybe she will."

/

"No." The teacher didn't look away from the computer. "You're just like every other student here Ms. Fiore." She glanced at Yellow over the tip of her glasses. "If you're teachers were doing their jobs back in Hoenn, you should be right up to speed with all the subjects here." She went back to her computer. "You're taking the test."

Yellow opened her mouth to try again but the teacher waved her hand at her, cutting her off. "Now go back to studying. You only have three minutes left to review."

Yellow closed her mouth before nodding and walked back to her seat. Other students gave sympathetic smiles as she went. When she reached her seat, her seatmate leaned closer to whisper to her. "At least you tried."

The girl lifted her notebook to show it empty except for small drawings of some anime characters. "I'm hopeless." She said. Yellow smiled in sympathy before turning back to her empty desk. She only had to last a year.

Hopefully it went by soon.

"Shh." Red mouthed to Blue who turned to look behind him and mouth the same to Yellow. She rolled her eyes but didn't respond. She could get back at him later.

They were in the forest by Professor Oak's Laboratory. Their mission was to sneak into his library. Red had been researching their typings more after been introduced to Yellow who was Fairy and soon had started talking about Aura. When Blue and Yellow asked about it, he said that he needed more information first and was going to steal a book from Professor Oak's personal library. Yellow came along because she wanted to see the library and Blue came along because it was more fun than doing homework.

"Okay, the Pokémon won't bother us if we don't bother them Yellow. And we're pretty good friends having done this before but they don't know you so don't touch them." Blue didn't hear an answer and turned around to see Yellow stroking the head of a Mankey. "Don't touch them Yellow!" He whisper yelled.

Yellow pouted a little in sulkiness. "But it's so cute."

Blue himself huffed folding his arms. "You're so lucky. It took me weeks before it let me touch it."

"Maybe it sensed that you're a meanie." Yellow stuck her tongue out.

"What?! I-!"

"Guys!" Red snapped at them with a low but sharp voice. The two winced, forgetting that they had to be quite. "Sorry."

"You can argue when we finish or just go back home." He turned around and swiftly crawled ahead.

Yellow watched him go feeling a little uneasy. She's actually never seen Red get angry before so she doesn't know how he'd respond if she ruined the plan. The idea of going back was starting to sound more appealing the longer she thought about it.

Blue cut her train of thought when he nudged her. "He's not mad. Just more annoyed than usual. He gets less sleep whenever he's researching."

Yellow raised her brow,"Which is almost all the time?"

Blue shrugged. "Yeah." He held out his hand which Yellow gratefully took. "Let's go. We don't wanna keep him waiting."

Red was waiting by a window to the building. "Took you guys long enough." He turned to the window and slid it open. Yellow wondered why the Professor left it unlocked but obediently followed the others in.

They walked through the hallway as if they lived here which would be impossible as they aren't allowed in the laboratory at all. It made Yellow wonder just how many times they snuck in here.

They entered a room and Yellow marveled at the amount of books available. "This is Professor Oak's library?"

"Yeah but if you have a trainer's license, he'll let you read these for free." He pointed to a door adjacent to the one they just entered through. "It's his personal study room we have to go into."

"And you have sneaked into there too?"

Blue shook his head. "Nope. Gramps got mad security on that place. Cameras everywhere."

Red nodded. "But now that I've practiced, I can knock out the cameras for a little over twenty minutes."

Yellow nodded, now understanding how the window was open. "You sure the book you're looking for is in there?"

"Nope. But if Oak did have it, that's where it'll be."

From just going up to the door and entering the the room to actually looking for the book, the whole time Yellow was nervous. She paused when another book caught her eye.

Social Influence: The Power Of Art

Intrigued, Yellow reached for it but before she could touch it, Red called out to them saying he found the book.

"Great. Let's go." Yellow turned to leave when she saw that they were not moving. Red instead began skipping through the book.

"We're not taking the book Yellow. That's just asking Gramps to look for the thieves." Blue said. He turned to Red who was almost done skipping through the small book. "Red has a photographic memory. This is light work for him."

"He has eidetic memory?"

Blue shook his head. "Nah that's different. People with that type of memory remember the details of the memory for a shorter while. They'd be able to tell you the details of the book for a few hours but Red?" Blue grinned. "He can remember it for days."

Red, finished with the book, closed in and put it back into its place. "Okay, I'm ready." Yellow stared at him. Psychic abilities, good looks, kind, smart and now a perfect photographic memory...

"Aren't you a bit overpowered?"

Red smiled apologetically while Blue burst into laughter. "Glad to know we're on the same page pinkie."

"Happy Birthday!" Blue was jolted out of his sleep with the sound of party poppers. He groaned and tried to curl up in his sheets. It was all meaningless as Yellow climbed on top of him preventing his movement.

Yellow pinched his cheek. "Aren't you happy that you're turning ten little guy?" Blue just groaned. Every since Yellow found out that she was older than Blue, she had made it her mission to remind he was the youngest of the group. Blue truly didn't mind it. But surely she could come up with something better than "little guy".

"Blue get up. Professor Oak actually gave me permission to throw water on you this time." Red said. Blue didn't bother responding. It's been years and his grandpa never gave Red permission.

When he felt Yellow's weight remove and Red's presence disappear, Blue sighed in relief and sunk into the bed. Now he could actually get some sle-

Blue jumped up out of the sheets when he felt cold liquid dashed onto him. He stood in the middle of his bed, practically dripping as they laughed. "Are you joking?"

"Your-" Yellow's words was interrupted by her wheezing. "Your face." She slapped her knees in laughter.

Blue rolled his eyes and stepped off his bed. He grabbed the towel hanging off his dresser to wipe his face. "I still don't know why I have to wake up this early. The party never starts until in the after noon."

"Well that's because Professor allowed us to visit the ranch today." He gestured to the girl beside him. "Curtesy of Yellow."

The girl waved her hand. "Oh stop. It was nothing." She flashed her hair behind her, clearing enjoying the praise and contrasting her words.

"Really?!" Blue's eyes widened to Red's words. He opened his drawer to grab underwear and clothing, not even looking at what he took out. "Give me ten minutes." He ran pass them into his bathroom.

/

"It's almost time huh?"

The trio had somehow managed to escape the party with the birthday boy himself. As the sky got darker, they watched as the sun set.

"It's almost surreal. Feels like yesterday when we were crying about going on our own journeys."

"That was yesterday." Blue shoved Red lightly while Yellow released a snicker of amusement.

"You always ruin the mood." Blue glared before looking back to the sky. "Still, we're becoming Pokémon Trainers soon."

"Not yet." Red stated. "We still have to pass the test."

Yellow sat up, having been listening to their conversation. "Test?! What test?"

"The Trainer's License Qualification Test. Everyone needs to take it." Red glanced at Blue before looking back to her. "We told you this right?"

"No!"

Blue winced. "Sorry. No one ever really talks about it until like the week before."

"But we're becoming trainers in May right?" Yellow asked. "I still have six months to practice so I'll be fine."

Blue and Red glanced at each other. Yellow looked between them, finding it suspicious. "What? What is it?"

"Uh Yellow?" Red scratched his temple, a nervous habit of his Yellow noticed. "We don't take the exam the same month as when we're becoming trainers. We take it several weeks earlier."

Yellow narrowed her eyes. "How early?"

"In February." Blue blurted out. Yellow's eyes widened. That's two months away!

She groaned. She was definitely gonna fail.

/

"Yellow, you're not gonna fail."

Yellow ignored the reassurances from Blue as she chewed on her pencil. She only got six weeks to study so her confidence to pass this test was at six percent.

She straightened up when the invigilator stood up with the papers. "Okay. Before I hand out the tests. I am going to have to ask you to remove all belongings and place them to the front of the class."

He waited for them to follow his order before clearing his throat. "Now I will hand out the tests." He began to walk through the rows while placing down the test. "Please do not open the test until I say so. If you do, that will result in a deduction of ten points." Yellow felt pity for herself once she saw how thick the packet was.

"It goes without saying that there is no cheating allowed. You will be allowed scheduled bathroom breaks and snack break." He finished handing out the papers and walked back to the desk to stand in front of the class. "As such, this exam will last four hours. Please begin."

Yellow opened the booklet.
