Ranbu no Melody - SID (Bleach Opening 13)
Izuku Midoriya POV
Izuku Midoriya was sweating profoundly. More so than normal. Perhaps it was the stress getting to him as they raced through the city, trying to catch up to Overhaul as fast as they could. Nighteye was still injured, but he was ready to fight. Izuku smiled at his mentor, the one that was still awake. Even in this tense situation, Izuku couldn't help but think about All Might and his coma. His body had finally broken down, and Izuku was told there was a massive chance that All Might could die. Despite that, Izuku steeled himself for the future.
While everyone else was tired and hurt, it was him that was going to fight Overhaul.
Just like All Might.
Even if Izuku had to die to beat the villain, he would do so with no hesitation. All For One was defeated, and One For All had no purpose. Ever since that fated night, it was like his Quirk had quietened. It was far more easier to control than before, but it also felt… muted. It was difficult to explain, let alone to understand. Izuku cracked his knuckled, readying himself for the fight as they reached closer to Overhaul.
'Is this my fault?'
Izuku knew that had he taken Sora seriously, perhaps if he didn't have too much blind trust in his friend, things would have gone differently. Overhaul escaped because he wasn't restraining Sora properly because he had loosened believing that his friend was better. His decisions were partly to blame for the current scenario, but Izuku also recognised that no one expected Sora to snap. He hadn't snapped before. Izuku had seen his friend half-dead, but even then he was a hero until he won.
But the Sora that was just in front of him…
He was less of a hero and more of a loser.
It pained Izuku to admit it, after all, they were friends, but after one loss Sora had simply given up. And after Eri… after she… Izuku's fists balled as he looked forward to fighting Overhaul even more. 'Eri died trying to be a hero. Trying to be like Mirio and me. Why?' It was a strange sensation for Izuku, after all, he had never really felt guilt. Not really. But Eri had looked up to them so much that she died trying to be like them. And yet, he didn't regret a thing.
Izuku wanted to cry, but the fact was that Eri's 'bad man' was still on the loose. He was still going to cause destruction, thus he had to fight for her. He was going to fight for Sora as well because the boy couldn't fight anymore. All Might carried the hopes and dreams of the world on his back as a hero, but Izuku wasn't ready for that. No, after watching his friend crumble away he realised that he would never be ready to even hold up to All Might. Izuku couldn't be the next All Might.
He could only be himself.
He couldn't shoulder the world on his back, but he could shoulder the hopes of a small girl and the wishes of his friend. Izuku could burden himself with that at least. But the issue still went back to Sora. Izuku didn't want to admit it, but Sora did cause all of this. And to say that it didn't change Izuku's opinion of his friend was a lie. Sora had never shown this much emotion, and even if Izuku didn't always agree with Sora's decisions, he had never made a mistake this big.
Izuku thought that Sora was the hero of the class.
The entire class thought that.
But the boy that was just standing in front of him was the furthest thing away from that image as possible. Just what had happened to him? Izuku knew that his friend died tragically, but even then…
Izuku believed that his friend was better than that.
It was why they admired him.
That he wouldn't give up.
So why…
Why had Sora Yamazaki given up?
"Eyes up," Nighteye warned him as they closed in on Overhaul flying through the city. "We are about five minutes away from the city centre. We cannot allow him to reach it, understood?" Izuku nodded as he calmed his nerves. It was up to him. Everything was up to him. He used his Black Whip to hook himself onto one of the nearby buildings, swinging through the air as he eventually caught up to Overhaul. Time seemed to slow down for Izuku as he considered his options.
'If I touch him, there is a possibility I could get absorbed into him. I don't know how strong he's gotten from taking that drug! His Quirk could be changed to the point where it doesn't need his fingers to touch anymore!' Izuku thought to himself. 'Fine then! I guess I'll just have to keep him at bay using my long-ranged attacks until I know what he can truly do!' Using Black Whip, Izuku wrapped it around Overhaul's monstrous leg and threw him to the ground as hard as he could.
Nejire caught him as he fell, dropping him off next to Nighteye who was staring off against Overhaul.
"Oh? You decided to follow me," Overhaul stood up from the ground as he changed forms. He looked more like a mini Kaiju compared to before, but now he looked like a normal human dressed in pure white. Even his mask had changed colours. "It doesn't matter. You've lost. I've evolved into the perfect antibody!" Before either he or Nighteye could react, they watched as Overhaul reached out and fused with a random civilian as he laughed.
He became more powerful.
Izuku was stunned into silence as Overhaul began laughing manically, slapping his forehead as he walked towards them.
"My power can only grow. Before I could only fuse with one person at a time, but now? Now not even All Might himself could stop me. Just an antibody? No. No. I'm a God. After all, only a God could revert society back to how it was." Overhaul paused as he touched the ground, and instantly, the floor turned to spikes. It was absurd as Izuku used his Black Whip to escape right before he was impaled.
Just how strong was Overhaul?!
Izuku watched as Nighteye got in close and managed to avoid most of his attacks, somehow managing to pull out a gun, before shooting Overhaul in the head at point-blank range. Izuku was horrified as Overhaul simply spat the bullet back out before throwing Nighteye at a nearby building. If Nejire didn't catch him in time, Izuku didn't doubt that the man would have died.
'Shit. How can we beat someone like him?'
"Is this… despair?" Overhaul asked them. "Have you all come under despair? Just like that boy. Have you given up on fighting me? Have you given up in the face of overwhelming power? If that's the case, then use these," Overhaul threw a box at them. It was… it was full of the vials of liquid that Overhaul said could take a Quirk away! "They won't work on me, not like you would get close enough to use it anyway. But if you want to live the rest of your pitiful lives, then use it."
As soon as Nighteye went over to pick them up, he had to avoid another attack that was thrown at him. The vials flew in the air, all crashing down on the ground apart from one. Izuku had managed to save one.
"Did you really think I was going to allow you to give up?" Overhaul yelled. "You took Eri away from me! You stole her! You killed her! She was mine! You deserve to be punished for that sin. Fret not, I am here to cleanse you of your sins." Izuku gulped as the man moved fast - faster than he could even keep up with - as Overhaul flew towards him.
To the left-,
No, to the right-,
Even One For All was confused as Overhaul simply vanished before his eyes. Not before a stinging sensation hit the side of his head and he was thrown to the floor. Overhaul was moving so fast it felt like he had vanished.
"The woman I just absorbed… she had a speed Quirk. Nothing special. But what's great about this is that their Quirks are also boosted by Felix Felicis. So long as I heal myself, and by extent heal their bodies, I am in no danger. I cannot, and will not, be defeated by the likes of you. I've evolved. I'm no longer just a mere diseased human, I can see it with my eyes! Godhood! I've ascended even the limitations of life itself!" Izuku was helpless as he watched Overhaul devour even more people.
It was then that Izuku realised just how many people were around them.
They were all in danger!
Without even thinking, Izuku got up from the floor and yelled at everyone who was close by to run.
"RUN! EVERYONE PLEASE, JUST RUN! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!" He yelled at him, blood pouring down the side of his face. He couldn't even see straight. But even as he yelled, not many people listened. No, most simply stood there recording the fight on their phones. Izuku had to avert his eyes as those with their phones out got devoured one by one, and it was only then that people realised how dire the situation was.
Because before then, they thought that the heroes would win.
Izuku couldn't believe his eyes as Overhaul fused with more and more people, his strength multiplying by the second. But it didn't matter! Izuku leapt into action as he kicked Overhaul away, standing in front of the rest of the civilians that were nearly devoured. He gritted his teeth as he upped One For All's power from fifteen to twenty-five per cent. His body buckled under the pressure, and he nearly fell over. His body wasn't ready for this- But Izuku couldn't care less.
There were people that needed saving in front of him!
"H-Hero-,"
"RUN!" Izuku bellowed loudly. "Please, just run." Even if Izuku Midoriya was going to have to die in order to protect these civilians, in order to protect what he wanted to protect - he was going to do it with a smile on his face. He faced Overhaul once more, who merely stared at Izuku with a curious expression on his face. It was clear to see that he hadn't expected Izuku to stand up again, let alone try to fight him.
"So, you've decided to die a pitiful death," Overhaul said, his injuries getting healed instantaneously. "That's fine. I suppose I'll have to make you die in the worst way ever to send a message." The civilians behind Izuku cowered in fear, but he still stood strong.
"I'll stop you, right here and now!" Izuku yelled back, turning his head towards the civilians behind him. They were scared. Izuku didn't need to be a genius to figure that out, with how they stared at Overhaul as if he was beyond their understanding. And Izuku could sympathise, he really could. But now wasn't the time for that - It was the time for action! "Please, run. I'll hold him off so you can all get to safety." It was then that Izuku realised that many of the civilians were recording their exchange.
"Say! W-what's your name?" One civilian asked him, pointing his phone directly at Izuku.
'My name? Oh. That's right…'
One For All coursed through his body as he upped the power of it to thirty per cent, and he could feel his bones start to move even if he was standing still. Yet despite that, he put on the bravest smile he could. Even if he was terrified for his own life right now, he wasn't terrified for theirs. No, in Izuku's heart, he already had found his answer. 'No one else is going to die today!'
"I'm Deku," Izuku replied. "The hero who doesn't give up!"
Mirai Sasaki POV
Mirai wasn't a coward. He had faced down villains alongside All Might, he had seen All For One with his own eyes and still was a hero. But as he watched Kai Chisaki become unfathomably strong, he wondered if maybe he should have given up had he gotten the chance. It was merely a joke to try and lift his spirits, and surprisingly it worked even in such a tense situation. But Mirai, watching his young student stand against the monster protecting civilians that scurried away, finally stood up.
He was severely injured.
If anything, Mirai knew that no matter what he wasn't going to make it out alive of this fight without a lot of luck. But he was also a pro hero. This was his job. And watching someone a third of his age stand up against such impossible odds warmed his heart. 'He's nothing like Toshinori… No, he's better.' Ever since Mirai had heard that his friend was in a coma after beating All For One, he had decided to train the last remaining link to One For All. Perhaps it was out of duty, or perhaps it was out of his respect and love for his old friend.
And so he stood up, ready to fight Overhaul once more with not just his sidekick or student - But as equals. Izuku Midoriya was a conundrum that Mirai would never solve, he still believed that Mirio deserved One For All, but he could understand why Toshinori had chosen Izuku after all. He realised himself, that Izuku had a quality that Mirio could never possibly hope to match up to - A true hero's heart!
Even if the decision wasn't his to make, Mirai smiled to himself as he joined his equal in battle.
'It's an honour to fight side-by-side with you.'
"N-Nighteye!" Midoriya yelled in surprise. "I thought you were-,"
"Injured? Oh don't worry about that, I'm plenty injured," He cut in, glaring at Overhaul. "But we have a job to do. We can't allow him to move away from this street, less he becomes too strong for us to handle. However, if we work together using our strengths in tandem, I think we can beat him. Deku! Are you ready for the hardest fight of your life?!"
"Yessir!"
Mirai smiled at the boy.
He really had grown leaps and bounds from the timid child that had been knocked out at the second stage of the Sports Festival just a few months prior. If Toshinori was awake, Mirai was sure that he'd be proud of his student as well. And who wouldn't be? Even Aizawa, the boys' homeroom tutor, had raised a splendid hero and now the world could see it. Mirai knew that the phones that were recording the boy telling them to run and how he would fight Overhaul off were going to be shared around social media right about now.
Civilians were so predictable.
But it was their trade after all.
Yet Mirai couldn't help but think back to one of Aizawa's other students. Or in this case, Aizawa's only mentee.
Sora Yamazaki.
He had crumbled under the pressure of everything.
Mirai had seen it before because not everyone was cut out to be a hero. That was a simple fact of life, some people were born short and others tall. Some were born with powerful Quirks, and some were born with no Quirks. But Mirai had never seen a series of mess-ups snowball into something this big. Admittedly, Mirai should have foreseen it. He was dealing with kids, not seasoned veterans like himself. His decision to let Sora in on the raid had backfired on him spectacularly.
Not only had the boy failed to achieve what he set out to accomplish, but his decisions had resulted in an innocent girl's death. No. Eri's death wasn't because of Sora. Eri's death was because of Mirai himself. Sora was broken by the time he had seen the boy once again, and yet instead of sending him away, he kept him there. Why? The boy was angry, and that anger led to Overhaul escaping. But Mirai should have restrained him properly, so why didn't he?
The truth was rather simple.
Despite them being kids, Mirai forgot that fact.
He was treating them like seasoned veterans. A hero shouldn't show emotion until after everything was said and done. That was what All Might did, and conversely, that was what Mirai believed in. But Sora was simply a teenager whose world had been ripped away from him, naturally, he would show emotions. And with Overhaul provoking him, even a blind man could have seen it coming. It angered Mirai that even with his Quirk, he couldn't have seen the future.
Aizawa was missing an arm.
Mirio was trapped within Overhaul.
And Sora?
Mirai asked himself if the boy was ever going to want to live again. Mirai could see the potential Sora had, perhaps that was why he expected better from him. Perhaps that was why he treated the boy like an adult. Because it was all in the eyes - Compared to Midoriya's or even Mirio's eyes, Sora's looked aged. They weren't the eyes of a teenager, they were the eyes of an adult who had messed up before. And now the boy had given up on everything.
It was comical how life went.
Just a week ago, the boy had been so full of life.
And now that life had been sapped out of him.
Mirai was drifting in and out of consciousness, but he could still remember the screams that came from Sora as he lost all control and went berserk. Mirai wondered if it would have broken Aizawa's heart. Ever since Mirai had heard that Aizawa had gotten a student, he had looked into Sora Yamazaki. He was an orphan and when he was younger had a habit of getting into fights with anyone. To tell the truth, Mirai thought he was more of a delinquent than a hero.
But then he started to read reports that featured the boy.
And he grew intrigued.
Sora Yamazaki was someone that defied all logic. At least Midoriya was predictable, but outside of 'protecting those he cares about' Sora was a mystery. But a good one. It was an undeniable fact that Sora Yamazaki was a good person. Even if he had mistakes, and even now, Mirai still believed in the future generation. A small part of him hoped that the boy would pick himself back up and fight once more. Because Sora Yamazaki was another hero he had his eyes on.
His assessment of the boy was correct.
Sora was nothing like Midoriya.
Sora was nothing like any other member of his class, or even in his school. Mirio, Nejire and Tamaki despite being older were nothing like Sora. In a sense, Sora wasn't a hero but more so a friend. And Mirai had never seen anything like it before, nothing could compare to the fire that burned in Sora Yamazaki's eyes when he talked about protecting others. Perhaps it was because the boy was an orphan, or perhaps it was something else. Despite that, he was cleaning up Sora's mess for him.
Because the boy couldn't do it himself.
Sora's eyes were empty. They didn't have the spark to walk, let alone fight. Mirai knew that the chances of the boy coming to fight were slim to none. Backup would take a while to come, and so the only people that could fight were himself and Midoriya. Nejire was helping evacuate as many civilians as she could. Another strong hero in her own right. 'Ryukyu should be proud of her.' Mirai mused to himself as he undid his top button and threw his tie to the floor.
It was time to get serious.
"So, it's only the two of you that are willing to fight?" Overhaul mocked, fusing with another bystander was trapped under a car due to all the chaos. Mirai growled at that, but he didn't move as Overhaul started to dance, before changing forms into a giant monstrous being. "I'll admit, I'm a bit disheartened that you two are the best this rotten society can manage to throw my way. But it doesn't matter I suppose. None of this will matter once I kill you both and fuse with even more people, I'll evolve into Godhood itself!"
"Do you really think you're a God?" Midoriya asked. "Because in my eyes, you are nothing but a pathetic man pretending to be God. A false God. You can defeat us, but you won't defeat our ideals! The whole world believes in heroes, and if it will take the whole world to defeat you then so be it! For as long as I live, and even after that, you'll never be a God!"
"Well said, Deku!" Mirai added. "Kai Chisaki, you can claim that you are a God but that's the furthest thing from the truth right now. You'll be defeated and you'll spend the rest of your life trapped in a cell. Let's not delay this any longer!" Mirai and Midoriya walked over to Overhaul, who simply began to laugh.
"I see. So this is what you diseased maggots claim to be courage. Personally, I call it stupidity." Within seconds, the entire street was changed to a trap-filled mess. Mirai gritted his teeth as he evaded spikes that would have killed him instantly. But he was given no time to rest as Overhaul pounced on the two of them, aiming to crush them to death! Mirai used his Quirk to see a few seconds in the future as he evaded all of his attacks, not without nearly dying in the process.
'My injuries… I can't dodge his attacks forever!'
He had made contact with Overhaul ages ago, not to mention the fact that he was still awake to maintain eye contact with him. He could see everything that Overhaul was about to do, but despite that Overhaul was simply too strong. Even if he could see into the future, the problem was that his body couldn't react in time. Even as Mirai threw one of his hyper-density seals as fast as he could, it barely hurt Overhaul. The one with the most destructive power between the two was Midoriya, and so Mirai was going to have to rely on him for the fight.
Mirai drew Overhaul's attention, running around him while Midoriya attacked him from behind. It was a crude, simple and ineffective strategy as Overhaul made another set of wings and flew in the air, trying to escape them to gain more power. If it wasn't for Midoriya using Black Whip, Mirai wouldn't have known what to do next. He only had five hyper-density seals left, but he was going to make them count. He threw them all as fast as he could and watched as parts of Overhaul began to break apart. The villain screamed in protest as he tried to escape from Midoriya, but was eventually thrown to the ground. Midoriya grinned as he looked at Mirai, the worst having been avoided.
Overhaul wasn't invincible.
They could break him piece by piece, and while he could heal himself up, Mirai quickly made a plan in his mind.
"Midoriya! I need you to keep attacking him, breaking pieces of him! Hopefully, we can makesome of the people Overhaul has fused with separate! I'll distract him while you do that!" Mirai took the most dangerous job, but he took it for a reason. He had faith in his abilities, even if he was injured. While Midoriya climbed up the building behind him to get a better angle at attacking Overhaul, Mirai stood his ground. His student was still stuck inside that monster. And he had every intention of breaking everyone free.
That was until a wave of purple fire forced Mirai to duck under a large piece of rubble to avoid getting burnt. 'Shit! One of the Quirks he must have got was a fire Quirk!' Mirai thought to himself. He cursed loudly as he ran from one piece of rubble to the other, watching as Overhaul simply shattered the place Mirai was standing just a few seconds ago. Even as Midoriya tried to fight and tear pierces of Overhaul off, eventually, he was thrown at Mirai.
Midoriya coughed up blood, but other than that he was fine.
But they couldn't do anything as Overhaul ignored them for the time being and attacked the helicopter that was following them in the air. And they watched as he fused with all seven people in that helicopter. Mirai wasn't trying to keep count, but the total number of people he had fused with was now fourteen. With each passing second, he was wondering if it was even possible to win. But that didn't deter him as he stood up, helping Midoriya up as well.
"Nighteye, nothing I do is working!" He yelled.
"We can't defeat him normally," Mirai replied, bringing out his gun and looking at the bullets inside. Empty. "The only thing we can do now is kill him." Midoriya stared at him at the comment, but Mirai didn't care.
"K-kill him?"
"Yes Midoriya, kill him. Sometimes, heroes have to take down a villain. Permanently. You saw it with All Might, and you'll be seeing it here as well. You saved one of the vials that Overhaul gave us, did you not?" Midoriya nodded, handing over the vial of red liquid that slotted perfectly into the pistol Mirai had taken from Overhaul. "He said that it wouldn't work on him, but we have to try. This time, you take control of distracting him, I'll shoot the shot."
As Overhaul rampaged, fusing with more civilians that hadn't escaped yet, Nejire flew down and landed beside them.
"Nighteye! Ryukyu and all the other heroes are coming to help with handling Overhaul! They are only a few minutes away!" Mirai nodded at her, turning to Midoriya as they went to execute their plan. A few minutes was far too long for Mirai. But even then, they would help with restricting Overhaul. With each passing second, Mirai wanted to kneel over and fall asleep, and it was likely that Midoriya felt the same way. They only had one shot, but they had to make it count.
Mirai ran after Overhaul, watching in horror as the number of victims that had been fused with him totalled thirty-three, but the number was only increasing. Mirai's left leg was preventing him from reaching the villain faster, but eventually, he watched as Overhaul's attention was stolen by Midoriya who seemed to be fighting his hardest. Snap. The boy's arm snapped and if it wasn't the shock on the boy's face, it was Overhaul's laugh that alerted Mirai the most.
'He pushed his body further than he should have!"
"Goodbye, Deku."
Overhaul had made a sword using the carnage around him, a sword similar to Sora's own sword. Time seemed to slow down for Mirai as Midoriya couldn't move, not only was his left arm broken but so was his left leg. It was then that he remembered something so long ago, that he had forgotten it.
"Mirai. If your body ever moves when you aren't thinking properly, don't fight that sensation. Welcome it. It's nothing to be ashamed of, my friend. If anything, it shows that you truly are a hero."
"Urk-!"
Mirai smiled as he managed to push Midoriya out of the way, and for once his life felt complete. He had passed the gun over to Midoriya as he felt Overhaul slash his chest. Even his leg was cut off as he fell to the ground, bleeding profoundly. Mirai had never been this injured before, but even then he still smiled to himself. His glasses had been flung away from him and were probably broken as his once combed hair now covered his left eye.
"Nighteye!" He heard Midoriya scream, crawling over to him as he saw the tears in his student's eyes. 'How is Mirio going to react? I wonder.' Mirai thought to himself, trying to wipe Midoriya's tears away.
"A hero… shouldn't… cry when in battle." Mirai managed to say, nodding at Midiriya as he pointed at the gun in his hands. He had the perfect shot. The only shot. Backup from Ryukyu and the others were still so far away, which meant that it was only on them to kill Overhaul right now. Midoriya's arms shook with fear as he aimed the gun at Overhaul, who simply laughed at the situation.
"You're going to shoot me? Do you really think that will do anything?"
"And what if it has a Quirk-erasing bullet inside?"
Mirai watched as Overhaul's eyes widened in surprise. The man had given them out as bait to try and kill them both, but he failed. One was still safe, and it was currently loaded in the gun pointed at Overhaul's face. But the element of surprise was lost on them as Overhaul began to laugh once more. It wasn't that he didn't believe them, but rather that he didn't care.
"Interesting. It's as I said, heroes, everyone who I've fused with is now within me. It's like their bodies have taken Felix Felicis as well, and do you know what would happen if you shot me with that bullet?" Midoriya didn't reply as Mirai blanked. "I would lose my powers. But Felix Felicis kill the user. Without my Quirk healing their bodies as well as my own, all of us would die. Your precious friend and all the civilians that I fused with myself would die. Do you really want to do that?"
"Y-your bluffing!"
"Why do you think I'm laughing then?!"
Midoriya dropped the weapon, and Mirai watched as all hope left the boy. And for once, he couldn't complain because he too had lost all hope. He was going to die any time soon, but the fact was that Mirio was trapped. No, even if the other heroes managed to beat Overhaul, Mirio would die as well. It was a bitter pill to swallow. How could everything have snowballed into such a mess? Mirai had many regrets, but the way this day had turned out would be the biggest one of them all-,
Stomp.
To the left of them, something destroyed all the debris as they landed. Mirai couldn't turn his neck properly, but luckily their shockwave caused his body to move and he could look at the cause of it. It was-,
"Sora?!" Izuku called out in confusion.
But it wasn't Sora.
Not the one they knew.
Sora's hair had grown considerably shaggy, with his front bangs reaching past even his nose. It got to a point where if Mirai was looking at a different angle, one of Sora's eyes would have been covered by his hair. Not to mention the sides and back were long as well, reaching down to his shoulders. Mirai wore glasses, that was true, but not even he was blind enough to realise that somehow Sora's hair had grown since the last time he had seen him. What's more, the katana that Sora was holding, was nothing like his blade even if the handle and the metal looked the same.
"Sora? Is that really you?"
He didn't reply as he closed his eyes, allowing a small smile to prey on his lips.
"Good. Everyone at U.A and home is still safe," Sora said, surprising Mirai. 'Can he use his foresight Quirk to see if they are alright?' That was at a level far surpassing anything Mirai could do. "Midoriyra… thanks for everything, but stay right here. Just… stay put." Midoriya nodded at his friend. Mirai looked closer at the boy, even if he wasn't wearing his glasses, the boy looked visibly different. Perhaps he was taller? Or perhaps he was more mature?
Mirai couldn't quite put his finger on it.
"Are you really Sora Yamazaki?" Overhaul asked the boy.
"What do you mean?"
"If you are Sora Yamazaki, then consider me disappointed," Overhaul changed back into his human form, that damned mask still on his face. "I evolved thanks to the Felix Felicis Azrael created. My Quirk heals me, ensuring that I've become a God. But you dare come here with a new hairstyle and sword thinking that it will do anything? Do you wish to incur the wrath of God himself before I cleanse you from this world forever?!" As Overhaul screamed, Mirai waited for Sora's reply.
Only for it… not to come.
It was then that Mirai realised that Sora was staring at him. Perhaps it was foolish for the boy to do so while Overhaul screamed at him, but it made Mirai slightly sit up as he peered into Sora's eyes. They were different. Compared to before when they were empty, filled with fear and without the will to continue fighting his eyes now were strong. Fierce. It made Mirai smile as he coughed up even more blood, Sora Yamazaki was here to fight. Even Midoriya must have realised it as he stared at his friend, not in awe, no the boy had learned.
Midoriya didn't look up to Sora anymore.
He saw him as a friend, as an equal. Not as someone to admire or emulate, but as someone to stand side-by-side with. 'Good.' Mirai thought to himself. Izuku Midoriya was slowly learning, slowly growing and becoming a true hero. One that would surpass any and all expectations he held for the boy, but also any expectations Toshinorin had for the boy. He turned back to look at Sora, who was now staring at Overhaul with a blank expression on his face.
Even if Mirai has his glasses, he doubted he would be able to get a read on his emotions.
'Good. Like a true hero, not giving anything away,' Mirai smiled to himself as everything began to be brighter than normal. 'Your eyes are stronger. Now I can die, and leave this in your hands. Leave this entire world in your hands. Sora Yamazaki, Izuku Midoriya, and the rest of your generation…'

'Melody of the Wild Dance'
Kai Chisaki POV
"Once again, you are beneath me," Kai Chisaki was gloating as he felt the life leave Nighteye's body. It was a new ability that had been granted to him thanks to Felix Felicis, the ability to feel matter. He could feel life all around him, and when used in tandem with another Quirk, he could gauge someone's strength. But the one that drew his ire was Sora Yamazaki. Did he dare to stand against him? Unlike everyone else, he couldn't feel anything from the boy. "Sora Yamazaki, you are nothing-,"
"Chisaki, let's go somewhere else. I don't want to fight here." It was the way the brat said it that made his anger flare. Almost as if the boy thought he could beat him. Sora Yamazaki was trying to tell him what to do and it angered Overhaul immensely. 'A God doesn't care what others think of him. I will show him soon… show him the truth as I cleanse him from the world.' He calmed himself down, allowing a smirk to appear on his lips.
"What a pointless suggestion, even if we take out fight somewhere else, what good will it do for you? I've grown immeasurably strong," Overhaul laughed as the boy simply stood there, with the same blank expression on his face ever since he got here. "And your words don't come from someone who's stronger than me, it comes from an ant. A small boy that couldn't possibly compare to me right now. But don't worry, before I burn this city to the ground I will-,"
Hrk-,
The boy disappeared in a flash, appearing right in front of Overhaul as he grabbed him by the face and flew into the air.
'W-What?!'
Within seconds the two of them zoomed past Musutafu and even the city centre as they made their way to a near-empty beach. Overhaul crash-landed on the sand as he looked at the boy in shock. Takoba Municipal Beach Park. That was on the other side of town! Within seconds, the boy had transported the two of them across town?! Not only that, but Overhaul looked down to see his prized plague mask was not only destroyed, but it wasn't even on his face anymore.
As Overhaul touched his face to see if he was bleeding, he could only think of one thing at that moment.
'Impossible… did he overpower me?'
"Let's do this, Chisaki," Sora yelled as he pointed his sword at Overhaul. His left hand crushed his mask to pieces. "It'll be over real quick." Despite his mask being gone, Overhaul found himself to be smiling as he got up from the ground and took a step forwards.
"Over quick? I see, it was wrong of me to dismiss you because I couldn't feel anything coming from you." Overhaul shook his head as he used one of the Quirks he had collected to speed his body up and fuse with him. But to his surprise, the boy managed to slice one of his arms off without even blinking. 'Huh?' Unlike before, and even then Overhaul was still in control, when the boy lost control even then he hadn't managed to slice his arm off without blinking.
Overhaul growled as he grew another arm.
"It doesn't matter how strong you are, because that strength doesn't come close to mine," He told the boy, using another one of the Quirks he had gotten from fusing with multiple people. No, he was cleansing them of their sins. Overhaul raised his hand as a spear made from the solar energy around them formed in his hands. With Felix Felicis, it was possible to become this strong. Overhaul had gained the power of a God. "I've transcended even humanity itself, Sora Yamazaki. A thing that someone like you could never comprehend!"
He threw the spear to the side of them, where Mount Kikugawa lay and watched as parts of the mountain exploded. Not only was Overhaul using the speed Quirk he had required, but he was using it in tandem with multiple other Quirks. One that increased his arm strength if he threw it, one that allows him to change the weight of an object and one that allowed him to add explosives to something and make them explode remotely. All Quirks that had transcended thanks to him.
"Do you think you could ever possibly measure up to me?! I can't even feel your strength, you little child!" Overhaul gloated. No one could stop him now. Not even All Might. Felix Felicis was powerful, but Azrael had designed it with Overhaul's Quirk in mind. It wasn't a drug that was meant to change the outcomes of a battle, it was a weapon that Overhaul would use to change his society into how it should have been! To destroy the plague that affects this world! 'Azrael did such a fine job with Felix Felicis. My body, no my Quirk, is reacting to it trying to destroy my body instantly. There is no way I can lose.'
Overhaul was a God.
"Haven't you realised it yet?" Sora asked Overhaul, the same bored expression on his face. He didn't look frightened at all. "I guess you haven't. The reason why you can't feel anything from me isn't that I have no power… it's because I'm too strong for you to accurately gauge." Overhaul couldn't even react as Sora leapt over to him and crushed the spear made from solar energy with his bare hands, not even flinching as he burned himself.
Instinctively, without even thinking, Overhaul backed away using a Quirk that he had taken from a boy to switch places with one of the beach balls a long distance away from them. 'How?! That's impossible! I've become a GOD!' Overhaul growled in anger as he saw a few plagues standing around him, recording their fight. Fight. This wasn't supposed to be a fight! HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE KILLED THE BOY BY NOW!
Overhaul watched as seven of the adult men and women tried to back away from him, but he fused with all of them as he grew in power. Seven transcended Quirks for him to use to kill the boy. But as Overhaul looked back at him, he merely walked towards him slowly. As if Overhaul wasn't even worth trying for which only angered him even more. He changed forms as he grew in size, he was now easily taller than a six-storey building. Overhaul wouldn't have this! His pride demanded he win!
"I see," Overhaul began, "Do you feel triumphant that you threw me halfway across the city? Triumphant that you broke my spear? Triumphant that I changed forms to a monster? Triumphant that I absorbed another seven people? Triumphant that I will use all forty of my Quirks against you?"
The boy didn't respond, and his face betrayed nothing as he kept on walking towards him slowly.
"DON'T BE SO FULL OF YOURSELF HUMAN!" Overhaul yelled as he used the Solar Energy Quirk along with another that allowed him to breathe purple fire to create a blazing ball of light and threw it at the boy. It was easily above ten thousand degrees Celsius, and the sand below them was starting to melt. 'I can't allow this. I won't allow it. And neither can you, Felix Felicis? You can't forgive a human trying to get the better of me either, can you?'
As he launched his attack at the boy and watched as a blinding flash destroyed the beach. Overhaul grinned to himself, it was over. There was now a crater on the beach, large enough for the ocean to have started to fill it slowly by slowly. And yet, despite all that, floating in the middle of all the smoke was that damned boy! The only thing that made Overhaul happy was the fact that the boy's free hand, his left, was completely ruined. Not only was it horribly mangled and burnt, but the brat's coat had been burnt too on that arm.
It wasn't usable anymore, and that gave Overhaul the advantage as he flashed over to the boy and grabbed him by the throat.
'He's mine!'
"Can you hear me, Sora Yamazaki? Perhaps my attack burst your eardrums, but I'll tell you this. You may have grown stronger, but it means nothing. I am stronger than you, and I don't need to feel your strength to know that. I am still evolving, and yet even now is there nothing you can do to stop me. So I bid you farewell, hero. The only one today to have earned that title, but it's over for you-,"
"Over?"
'That sensation-,!"
Despite being strangled, Sora's head tilted upwards as he stared into Overhaul's eyes. Dark brown filled with life. With power. It made Overhaul irate that this human dared to question him, dared to even stand toe-to-toe with him. That this human even tried to speak to him! That this human got up from the ground, from having lost and thought he could still win! Overhaul could see it in his eyes as it made him madder by the second.
'How dare he! HOW DARE HE! I'm a God! This forsaken world needs to change and I'll be the one to enact that change! How dare he stand before me?! Doesn't he understand how badly heroes have corrupted us?'
"Is this all you got?" Sora taunted, pushing Overhaul into the ground.
'W-What?!"
"WHY?! Why do you stand before me, Sora Yamazaki? Surely you must understand by now, it wasn't I who took your precious friend or Eri away from you," The boy didn't react at all to that. "It was this society! This flawed society enlists heroes to protect it, that value a person's Quirk over anything else! This society, these heroes, that's the true root of the problem here! Can't you see?!" Overhaul watched as the boy fell to the ground and walked over to him.
"I can see. I know how flawed our society is, but what you've done is unforgivable," Even as he said that the boy's expression and tone of voice didn't change. "Chisaki, you are a part of this system. You are the reason these heroes exist. You experiment on an innocent child and prey on young boys and girls to join your gang. You're scum."
"Scum? No, I'll tell you who's scum," Overhaul laughed at the sheer disrespect the brat was showing off. "How many heroes are corrupt? How many make decisions that have innocents killed? And what about your own decisions? Did you come here to finish me off? To finally get your revenge on the person who you think is responsible for your own weakness? Sora Yamazaki, you are only human-,"
"That's right, I am human," For the first time since the boy came back, Overhaul could see his eyes glance away from him for a brief second. Sadness. The boy had the gall to be sad while they fought. "I've only ever been a human. Not a hero, nothing like that. Just a human who couldn't save his friend and a human who couldn't protect an innocent little girl. My decisions cost lives, I know that. It's why I'm here, Chisaki."
"You dare-,"
"I dare. I'm not here for revenge, I'm just cleaning up my mess."
It was then that Overhaul took a good look at the sword the boy had brought with him. It looked entirely different to his old curved one. It was a sleek katana, and despite the fact that they had the same handle it was the metal that was different. No, to call it metal would be a lie because it wasn't even that. Overhaul didn't even know how to describe what he was looking at because, in his eyes, the sword looked to be alive.
It was moving, constantly shifting around and if one looked closely one would see that it wasn't as sleek as it looked, in fact, it had a lot of rough edges that made it jagged. If anything, it reminded Overhaul of the clouds on top of their heads as he growled in anger at the sight of the sword. What was it? How did he get it? What did it mean? How strong was it? Was it the reason why he was strong? It angered Overhaul to no end.
He roared as he tried to attack the boy, only for his attacks to be either parried or evaded. No matter how many Quirks Overhaul used, he simply couldn't overpower the boy. He slipped onto the ground, he made multiple beams of light, he tried to set the boy on fire, he tried to pulverise the boy, he tried everything! Nothing was working as the boy calmly reacted to everything with no wasted movements, his expression the same bored look he had on his face since they started fighting!
The boy wasn't even attacking! No, Overhaul screeched in anger as he fused with more humans around them. Forty-five! Fifty! Fifty-five! Overhaul had fifty-five Quirks! He was using them all at once and not a single one so much as scratched the boy! It was inconceivable, Overhaul was powerful! He was a God! He was stronger than even the legend of the underworld, All For One himself! No one could stand up to him! Deku tried, and he was beaten!
Overhaul was superior!
How was Sora Yamazaki managing to match him?!
It was then that Overhaul realised despite all of his attacks, despite all of his destruction, the boy hadn't attacked him once. He was only responding to whatever he threw at him, Sora Yamazaki hadn't even reached out to attack him once in this entire fight!
"Let's not waste any more time, Chisaki," Sora said as he raised his sword, pointing it directly at Overhaul's throat. Sora used his burnt left arm to keep his right arm steady as Overhaul watched in horror at what was to come.
Fear.
Despite everything, Kai Chisaki felt fear.
"I'll show you it. My one and only attack." It was as if the world had grown to meet Sora's demands as the sky grew grey and cloudy. The wind around them grew more violently, and it felt as if the entire world was shaking. No one was recording the fight as they all ran away for fear that a storm would strike at any moment, and they ran faster compared to when Overhaul was threatening the civilians. Even then, they were calmed by that damned Deku!
No, with the way the brat in front of him was acting…
It sent shivers down his spine as he swore he saw Deku stand right beside his friend.
These damned heroes!
They were all the same!
Overhaul watched as multiple clouds were starting to become drawn to Sora, wrapping themselves around his body as well as his own clouds. It wasn't even armour or anything, not as they were all under the boy's control. Not when he coated his sword with everything, and not when Overhaul began to cower back in fear. No matter how monstrous he looked, no matter how many people he had fused with, and no matter how powerful he was Kai Chisaki couldn't possibly compare to the power on display in front of his eyes.
It was unfathomable.
Sora Yamazaki had surpassed even God itself.
"Kūnokū."
The Empty Sky.
Then the sword was swung.
When Kai Chisaki awoke, the beach had been levelled. Not only were his clothes in tatters but he was stuck in his human form. The boy descended from the air as he fell to the ground. And Kai could finally get a better look at the boy, at how differently he looked. Half of his face was covered by his clouds, and so was his torso. They looked more like bandages made of clouds as his shoulder-length hair covered his eyes completely. Click. Click. Kai turned around to see that there were still civilians around, taking pictures of the entire ordeal.
Step.
Sora Yamazaki had begun to take a few steps towards him, and Kai scrambled to get away.
"Get away from me!" He yelled in fear. Godhood? Kai Chisaki didn't care about that, he just wanted to run away from the monster in front of him! And yet, Sora Yamazaki kept on walking, step by step, making Kai Chisaki feel fear for the first time in a long time. He hadn't felt this sensation since he was but a child. A small child alone, bruised and battered as he was used by the society meant to protect him.
Kai Chisaki didn't want to become a yakuza, not really.
His parents had abandoned him for having a Quirk, they were both Quirkless after all. They were normal. It was Kai that was the diseased one, it was what started his fear of Quirks and his hatred of them. But then he joined the yakuza, and he really got a good look at their society. At the heroes that were meant to protect the public lie and cheat for their own gains, at how rotten and diseased this world truly was.
No one had ever understood him before, but the boy in front of him…
Sora Yamazaki understood him perfectly.
Somehow, Kai could tell from the boy's eyes that he hated heroism and villainy just as much as he did. Cursed concepts that didn't help anyone, they were just there as a way to control the public. 'Don't be a villain or else a hero will come after you.' It was what children were told when they were younger, it was what they grew up with on their TV's and the internet. It was disgusting.
But Kai Chisaki was wrong.
The entire time he hadn't been fighting a hero, because Sora Yamazaki was no hero. No, Sora Yamazaki was just like him! They were one and the same! They were both chewed up and spat back out by society, and the boy knew it! It made Kai want to laugh as the boy approached him, sword in hand for what was to come next.
Poof.
His sword disappeared from his hands as the clouds across his body crumbled away, leaving his tattered costume to be seen. Even his shaggy blue hair shortened to the length it was prior to their fight, the length Kai had remembered it being before something unexpected happen.
The boy's hair colour changed.
From light blue, almost silver, to a dark brown that matched his eyes. Sora fell to the floor in pain, and he couldn't get back up. 'Did I… win?' "Ha. Haha," Overhaul began to laugh as he realised he had won. Overhaul grinned as he began to use that Quirk he had gotten from the hero-,
Where was it?
Overhaul panicked as he realised the only Quirk he had access to was his own. It was then that he turned around and saw the mountain of familiar bodies that were laying on the sand behind him. All of the humans he had fused with. Somehow, the boy had managed to make him unconsciously stop fusing with everyone, likely because if he had stayed fused with everyone, he would have died. But it wasn't a problem. He could still feel the Felix Felicis in his system, and even though those behind him were going to die because of the drug, he wouldn't.
He healed himself as he got up to his feet and began to walk over to Sora who looked up at him, surprised that Overhaul was still able to fight.
"You lose," Overhaul managed to get out as he felt his heart constrict. That wasn't a good sign. "Goodbye, hero!" But before he could even touch the boy, a gunshot was fired and Overhaul screamed in pain. He looked to his side to see that accursed man, holding a pistol with his remaining hand. Eraserhead had shot him calmly from s distance as Overhaul realised the police and other heroes had arrived on the scene.
It was…
Ah.
He was shot by the Quirk erasing bullet he had created.
"It's poetic, isn't it?" Kai asked Sora as he kneeled over, coughing up blood. "That I lost to my own creation. That I lost to a boy. A hero. Good luck… living… Sora Yamazaki." Kai Chisaki knew the boy would need it because of the power that the boy had gained to fight him - It was cursed.
It had a cost.
And with that, Kai fell to the floor as he overlooked the peaceful sea.
'I wonder… what would have happened if I were the hero and you were the villain?'
Shota Aizawa POV
Fury was an emotion Shota Aizawa was all too familiar with.
After Oboro's death, the only thing that had been fuelling him for a while was anger. And it pained him to see that his student, the boy that he cared for, fell into the same traps as he did when he was younger. Shota wanted Sora to be better because he already was. But it was a stupid wish as everything Sora had ever worked for was taken from him. Shota knew the truth, that the boy would blame his own decisions.
Shota did that once too.
It had taken a while for Shota to accept the truth, and he realised that it would take a while for Sora to understand it as well. The truth is that life happens. It wasn't Sora's fault, not really. He was just a teenager and yet so much had already happened to him, it wasn't fair for Sora to have suffered so much and so he shouldn't blame himself for his friend dying, for Eri dying, and for Mirio and Mirai's deaths either. It was a shame that so many people had died already.
Fifty-nine confirmed deaths, and that was including Chisaki.
It was the worst attack Japan had faced in over two decades, and the news was already reporting about it. Aizawa waited for the rest of his students to arrive. Midoriya, Uraraka, Asui and Kirishima entered the crime scene with sad expressions on each of their faces as they looked at the fifty-five dead due to Overhaul fusing with them. Sadly, the villain was right in saying that the drug he had taken would kill them.
But it was comforting that they weren't awake when they died.
"Sensei, is…"
"He's over there," Shota replied, pointing at a small rock where Sora sat, all alone. It took a couple of seconds for his students to recognise Sora, especially because of the colour of his hair. Long gone was the blue that they were accustomed to, a dark brown took its place. It was so dark of a colour that Shota thought if there wasn't any sunlight, it might have looked black. He walked alongside his students as Sora saw them, a familiar smile tugging on his face.
It was genuine.
"Guys! You are all alright-," Sora wasn't able to finish his sentence as Uraraka hugged him fiercely, her sobs cutting him off. Midoriya was crying as well, although he wiped away his tears as his smile matched Sora's. Kirishima sighed in relief, and Asui simply nodded at the boy.
"It really is you! Your hair is brown, but it's still you!"
"Yeah. I know," Sora replied. "Still, now I can't complain about having a shit hair colour. Maybe I'll be able to wear nice clothes since it won't contrast with my hair that badly." Midoriya chuckled at his joke, and Uraraka eventually stopped hugging him as she went back and stood next to Midoriya.
"I think Jiro is going to have a fit when she sees you, kero."
"Ah, right. Damn, she really is going to kill me once she finds out-,"
"Finds out what?" Midoriya asked.
But before Sora could reply, he fell to the floor in pain.
And he didn't get back up.
There we go! The conclusion to our big fight! Personally, this was a lot of fun to write and I had been planning this fight for so long! If you think the power scaling has gone bad, well my reply is this:
Chisaki was full of himself.
All Might and All For One would have beaten him easily.
He was drunk on power and became arrogant.
Some of you may be sad that I killed off Mirio, and I'm sad as well, but I made Azrael (Or Natsuki) with a specific purpose in mind. That being a crazy scientist a la Orochimaru from Naruto. The drawbacks to Felix Felicis have been known for a few chapters now, so their fate was already sealed with Overhaul taking the drug.
And man, I just wanna say, I love Overhaul.
No redemption arc, no nothing. The man got what was coming to him, the consequences of his own decisions. Poetic considering that this arc is called DECIDE.
And as for Sora?
Well, you'll have to wait for the final chapter to get answers! Which will be… soon. In a few hours. Regrettably, as I write this, it is 9 pm for me on Christmas Eve. You'll see why I wanted to put out the chapter for the 24th, but I suppose if I do a few edits it doesn't matter because now Christmas day is important.
The point is you won't have to wait long for the final chapter of Part 1 of this story! Until then!
