*POV ALICE*
Alice: ok out you go, I have other things to do.
Bella: guess the birthday love only lasted so long huh?
Alice: no, it'll continue this evening. You just have to go celebrate with your wolfie friends now. I doubt they would want to come to the house and celebrate with us. By the way I invited Charlie and Leah. He'll be bringing you two over after. Now go, Leah said Jake will be picking you up around the corner there.
Bella: you really have a control issue, don't you?
Alice: just when it comes to parties! Now out!
I wait for her to get in Jake's car. Waving off to both before turning around and heading back to the house. The others are gone, I'm sure deciding to hunt a little before this evening. I see Leah still isn't there yet but I don't want to be late, so I head over to the creek. I can't help the thoughts that flow though my head. What could've happened between them for Bella to have that reaction yesterday. I smell Leah before I see her come through the trees. She easily crosses the invisible treaty line and walks right over to give me a hug.
Leah: I'm sure it's better for me to be here than you be over there. Especially with some of the wolves on patrol. So, what can I do for you Alice, is Bella being difficult? She always is for birthdays.
Alice: Haha, no she's actually been ok so far. I'm sure Esme had a lot to do with it.
Leah: yeah, I'm sure of it too. So, if not for the birthday thing. What can I do?
Alice: well, Leah, best friend to best friend. Being I'm late to the party here. Can we take a little walk? There's a nice clearing not far from here…
She waves her hand out for me to take lead…
Alice: I was wondering if you can tell me about Lauren. What exactly happen?
Leah: ahhhhh sorry Alice I can't. That's something you have to talk to Bella about.
We take seats on some rocks on the edge of the clearing. I tell Leah what happen. From Bella's behavior since Jess mentioned her, to the whole situation at the store with Lauren and her husband. Leah makes the same face Edward did. And now I truly know it's bad. I tell her about the fight with Emmett and she cringes at my description about his face. The look on Bella's face.
Leah: as a worried best friend to another worried best friend, I will tell you. I just hope Bella doesn't get mad…. Lauren… Lauren destroyed Bella. As you see Forks is a small place. They all grew up together even though Lauren was 2 years older. When her mom passed away, they got closer. Lauren's mom had passed away when Lauren was younger, so they had that in common. Bella developed a crush on her, I guess they both did. Eventually, they started dating. Honestly, everyone was cool with it. For it being a small town, you know. Everyone but Lauren's dad. He was very old school. He forbid them to date. But of course, they still did. Lauren promised Bella her father wouldn't come between them. That she would never be with a guy. Her and Sam would fake date to let them spend time together. When Lauren went off to college, it was easier on both of them. Anyways, Bella has a difficult time around on the anniversary of her mom's death. So, I planned a surprise visit to Seattle, for her to spend time with Lauren and us do some site seeing. You know to distract her. Well… Bella had a key, so we just went right in. We found Lauren in bed with, her now husband apparently. Lauren saw us and ran after Bella. She apologized of course. Told Bella it was a one-time, drunken thing. Slowly Bella forgave her. But it wasn't a one-time thing. Lauren ended up pregnant. We don't know exactly what all happen with Lauren after because she cut off Bella. Like it was nothing. Like Bella was nothing. It all broke Bella. Lauren was, I'm guessing her first love. She trusted her. And for her to do that on the anniversary of her mom's death. Cherry on top the whole baby thing. We all knew Lauren wanted babies, eventually one day. Yeah, they were too young at the time. Even now. But he gave her something Bella would never be able to. It was all just fuck Alice. We couldn't get Bella out of bed for a while. She didn't smile for a long time. Eventually she started coming back. The beach really helped. Another reason she loves it here. We never talked about it much after. All thought it was over with you know? But clearly, there's still some hurt and anger there.
Alice: what a fucking BITCH! How could she do that to her! Why….
I smell him before I could see him. He appeared not even 20 feet in front of us before I could grab Leah. His red eyes shining bright. He just feed but could never be too sure. His torn coat and messy ponytail let me know he was a nomad. I've never seen him before nor recall any of the others mentioning someone that looked like him.
Alice: Leah, stay behind me please… I don't know who you are, but you cannot hunt here. My family has a house about 15 miles to the east if you would like a place to rest. I can call ahead to let them know you're coming.
He doesn't say anything he just tilted his head and stared at us. I can smell Leah's fear and hear her heart beating a mile a minute. I give her hand a lite squeeze hoping she calms down while he slowly starts to walk over.
James: forgive me for not introducing myself. My name is James, you don't know me, but I know who you are. Alice… Now why don't you share a meal with me. We can get to know each other better.
Alice: I think it's best you leave.
James: I will after I eat.
I grab Leah and run as quick as I can to the treaty line. She'll be safe once I get her over with the wolves on patrol. James tackles me less than a mile away, throwing me and Leah into a tree. Though I try shielding her, I hear her ankle crack. I tell her to head to the line and don't look back. She looks at me with worry, but I tell her to hurry. I'm able to grab James in time for her to run. We fight and though Jasper has taught me how to defend myself, he's able to grab me around my head.
James: I know I shouldn't hurt you, but you let my meal get away. And I don't like it when my meal is taken from me.
I see Leah hesitate when she sees James got me. I yell at her to run but then I smell it. Fresh blood. I see it drip down her arm before she lets the rock drop. James inhales deeply and it's enough to give me the upper hand, twisting around and snapping his head off. She covers her ears at the sound made from tearing off his limbs. I quickly start a fire and throw in his body before rushing over to her. Wrapping a piece of my shirt around her arm. I scoop her up and rush back to the Res. Not realizing we crossed over till I'm meet face to face with a black wolf.
Leah: Sam no!
There's a long howl and another one. I lower Leah down slowly. Putting my hands up to show I don't mean any harm.
Alice: Leah it's ok. I don't want to cause you problems. I'll cross back over.
A light brown wolf joins us and growls at me when he sees Leah is hurt. His growl causes me to step back.
Leah: No Paul! Bella would not… You'd be breaking a tribe law. And I am not moving.
There's a tribe law to not kill us? I just broke the treaty, I crossed the line and on top, there's a hurt human. The black wolf growls and steps forward but stops when Leah steps in front of me. We hear a 3rd more demanding howl and Leah grabs my hand. 20 seconds later 2 more wolves join us. Both larger than the other 2 here. A brownish red wolf and the other a beautiful silver grey one. With bright greenish grey eyes. It steps between us and the other wolves, glaring at them causing them to coward back. They look to be having a silent conversation. This time Leah gives my hand a small squeeze. The black one growls at the grey one, but it doesn't back down. The grey one goes to almost tower over the black one some more. The black one shakes its head angrily but doesn't move. The grey wolf steps closer, slowly, lowering its head to look at Leah then me. Leah nods her head before stepping over to the side. And then I smell it. The linen and fresh rain, now mix with a muskier smell.
Alice: wolfie?
*POV BELLA*
Jake and I are sitting down to eat when we hear one warning howl followed by a heartbreaking one. Without questioning we run to the woods and quickly phase.
Bella: Sam, Paul, what happen?!
Paul: a vampire has Leah!
Sam: A fucking Cullen!
Jake and I see Sam's mind. Alice…
Bella: DO NOT ATTACK! AS YOUR ALPHA, I COMMAND YOU TO STAND DOWN. DO NOT ATTACK.
I push everything in me to get to the treaty line. Jake a few feet back.
Jake: Bella you're going to have to show them. No matter how they feel, they can't attack another wolf's imprint.
Bella: ugh I know!
We break through the clearing, seeing Paul, Sam, Leah and Alice. Leah in front of Alice. Paul and Sam ready to attack. I stand in front of Alice and Leah.
Bella: Stand down!
Paul: Leah's hurt. This bloodsucker hurt her.
Sam: they hurt a human; they broke the treaty. We kill her and kill the others.
Bella: I SAID STAND DOWN.
Sam growls at me and I see he wants to attack.
Jake: don't even think about it Sam! Stand down! Bella, you need to show them or I will.
I tower over Sam and open up my mind. I show him my imprinting on Alice. All my love for her. Matching and yet stronger than his love for Emily. He was able to fight off his imprint. Not for long but he was. I on the other hand, haven't been able to. He shakes his head.
Sam: no, no, no!
Jake: your Alpha and your Beta have told you to stand down. Now you see Alice is her imprint. By tribe law, you can NOT hurt another wolves' imprint. You know what happens if you do and I suggest for Emily's stake you back the fuck up.
I turn slowly to Alice and Leah. Leah lets me know she's ok and I turn my attention to Alice. Leah steps to the side, limping over to Paul.
Alice: wolfie?
I simply lick the side of her face.
Alice: Bella! Yuck!
Leah, Paul and Jake laugh. I feel the anger still rolling off of Sam. We're so wrapped up in what's happening, we don't notice the smoke and the burning sweet smell.
Bella: Jake take Sam back to the party. Let Billy know what happen and keep an eye on him. Paul phase so you can care for Leah. Take her home and let her know, I'll be there shortly with Dr. Cullen. Alice does not know about my imprint. No one says anything. That is an ALPHA ORDER.
Jake and Sam run off. I help Paul phases back. Knowing it's harder for him right now coming off his worry and anger. I don't take my eyes off Alice still.
Paul: Leah!
Leah: Paul! Alice saved me! You and Sam cannot attack her. It was another vampire. She killed him. She killed her own to save me Paul, please, please don't hurt her.
I look over Alice and notice the small cracks around her neck. I whine and nudge her with my nose. She runs her hand through my fur and it feels so good.
Alice: I'm ok. I promise.
Paul: Alice, I'm sorry. I didn't know and I don't know exactly what happen. But you saved her and for that I owe you my life. Thank you.
Alice: I would give my life for her Paul. She saved me too. That vampire almost took my head off. She cut herself causing the other vampire to become distracted enough for me to kill it.
I shake my head at Leah, she knows better than that, but I am also thankful for her. I nod my head at Paul to take Leah home.
Paul: either way, thank you Alice. Please, call me if you ever need anything. You're a part of our family now.
He scoops up Leah and starts heading to her house. Leaving Alice and I alone. I nudge Alice again.
Alice: I promise you I'm ok. It'll heal soon. Can you phase back now? Though I think your wolf is beautiful and I seem to know what you're saying, I really don't speak wolf.
I look over at the smoke and start walking to it. She joins me.
Alice: it was some vampire name James. I don't know him, but he said he knew me.
I look at her worryingly. Why would some random vampire attack her? Why would a vampire know her yet she didn't know him?
Alice: since you won't phase back, we should go. We need to get Carlisle so he can check out Leah.
She doesn't wait on me just takes off running. I get the thought before I even take off. I come up right behind her, grabbing her shirt and flipping her up in the air. Though I know she could easily control the flip and go around. She once again knows what I want. She lands on my back and grabs on. She runs her hand through my fur again and I jet off faster towards the Cullen house. Alice calls out to Carlisle before we break the woods. Hopping off just as we come to the house where all the Cullens are standing in front.
Rose: Bella?
Emmett: dude! You look bad ass!
Eddie, Esme and Carlisle looking at me with prideful eyes.
Carlisle: Bella, you look like my old friend. Only he didn't have your eyes.
I see Eddie nod his head.
Alice: ok ok, we can aww Bella's wolf later. Carlisle you need to get your medical bag and come with us to the Res, Leah was hurt. By a nomad. Don't worry I killed him.
Edward: I've never seen him before Carlisle. Alice what happen?
Carlisle rushes inside. While Alice gives a run down.
Edward: Alice, you didn't…
Alice: now is not the time.
I look at both of them before turning to Alice.
Alice: seriously Bella, I think you should phase back and we drive in. Considering what happen, us coming in a car will put their minds at ease.
I don't say anything just phase back.
Bella: some birthday huh? Guess both my parties will have to wait.
Alice: if we hurry up, you'll still get to enjoy both. On come on, we'll take Edward's car. Best for it to be just us, Edward and Carlisle.
Carlisle hands Alice another shirt and we all turn away so she can change. Nothing else is said, we just all jump in the car. Alice driving and the others sitting in the back. In no time, we're at Leah's house. Jake, Charlie, Billy and Sam all standing outside. I'm sure Paul is inside with Leah. Sam is in front of the car before we can even get out.
Sam: Alice is unfortunately now welcome here, but your other bloodsuckers are not!
I jump out slamming the door and walk up to Sam. Charlie walks in between us.
Charlie: easyyyyy now. Sam the names are uncalled for. Let the good doctor in.
Sam doesn't budge. I look at Charlie and he backs away with his hands up. I see Jake flank my right. Alice, Eddie and Carlisle still by the car. Paul runs out ready to grab Sam, but I beat him to it. I stand right in his face. I see how his whole body shakes the strength he's putting to not phase.
Bella: I dare you to phase right now Sam, I dare you!... I'll say this for the last time Sam. YOU WILL STAND THE FUCK DOWN. DR. CULLEN IS HERE TO HELP LEAH. YOU KNOW YOUR EX THAT ALICE JUST SAVED. PAUL'S IMPRINT THAT ALICE JUST PROTECTED WITH HER LIFE AGAINST ANOTHER VAMPIRE… NOW YOU WILL BE A GOOD LITTLE PUP AND BACK THE FUCK UP. YOU WILL NEVER DISRESPECT ANY OF THE CULLENS AGAIN. ALICE AND HER ACTIONS TODAY EXTENDS TO HER FAMILY TOO. UNDER MY ORDERS. UNDER YOUR ALPHA'S ORDERS. UNDER TRIBE LAW… YOU WILL NOT ATTACK OR CAUSE HARM TO ANY OF THE CULLENS. IF YOU BREAK THAT ORDER, YOU'RE SENTENCED TO DEATH. THAT IS YOUR ALPHA'S FINAL WORD. Billy, Jake and Paul are all my witnesses. You are forbidden to phase till I give the word.
I grab Alice's hand and walk around him. Motioning for the others to join me. Alice's coolness chills my temper and her scent calms me down.
Bella: oh, and Sam… don't make me have to whoop your ass again. Go home. Go to Emily.
We all head inside with Paul not sparing a second glance at him.
