Chapter 2 is here! Enjoy!
Olivia walked arm-in-arm with Trevor. He was in a slate gray suit, with a white button-down that had the first couple buttons on top open, no tie. She had to say the slate suit made his eyes, her favorite part of him, pop. He looked incredibly handsome and incredibly sexy just as he was. When they arrived at the restaurant they were seated pretty quickly because thankfully Trevor had made a reservation. Olivia perused the menu. "See something you like?" She asked before looking up at him with a smile.
Trevor was looking between her and the menu, finding it hard to tear his eyes away from her. "I… yeah. I'm going to have the Cuban Torta. What about you?"
Olivia smiled. "I think I'm going to have the Birria quesadilla. That looks delicious."
Trevor smiled. "Anything you want." He saw Olivia blush and he smiled. "When was the last time a man took care of you?"
Olivia tilted her head and smiled softly, sadly. "Ed Tucker. So… years." She shrugged. "I'm used to not being treated well. Men, women, I think Ed was the first person who took care of me my whole life."
Trevor reached across the table for her hand. "I'm sorry. But I promise, as long as you'll have me, I will take care of you."
Olivia smiled. "Thanks." She gently squeezed his hand and looked into his eyes. "Do you know why I joined SVU in the first place?"
Trevor shook his head. "I don't, you've been very guarded about that around me." He said softly. "Which is understandable. You only have to share if you're comfortable."
Olivia took her hand back. "I'm surprised word hasn't gotten back to you. It feels like most of the department knows."
Trevor smiled gently. "Cops don't usually talk about other cops in front of me, at least. Or if they do I tune them out. I don't like gossip."
Olivia nodded. "My mother was a rape victim." She said gently. "She got pregnant and had me. She hated me and wished she never had me. But I joined SVU to help women like her and kids like me." She said with a nod. "Never feels like enough though."
Trevor's face softened. "Liv, I am so sorry. That must have made for a tough childhood."
Olivia nodded. "It did, but it made me into an empathetic badass. Which somehow seems like an oxymoron." She laughed gently.
Trevor looked at her and smiled. "How's your relationship with your mother now?"
Olivia looked away, off to the side. "Well, as I got older our relationship improved a bit. She got protective of me, I think somewhere in her heart she loved me, but I don't think she liked me. She was a fallen down drunk, she died in 2000 going down the subway stairs outside the entrance of the Velvet Room. She never managed to stay sober for more than six months."
Trevor met her eyes. "I'm sorry."
Olivia waved it off. "There are some days I wish she was still here, so she could see me as a mom, but even then, I don't think she'd be proud of me. She was never good at even faking it. But there are times I wish I could call her up and tell her things. I'll be honest, I wish she was here today to tell her about our date."
Trevor smiled gently. "Yeah? I'd make a mom phone call?"
Olivia laughed a little, a sound Trevor loved. She nodded. "You would." She bit her bottom lip. "What about you? How's your relationship with your parents?"
Trevor took a sip of his water and cleared his throat. "They died in a car accident when I was 21. Drunk driver, head-on collision."
Olivia looked at him. "Oh Trevor, I'm sorry."
Trevor nodded. "Thank you. They were pretty awesome parents. My dad always made sure he spent weekends with me, and I was a bit of a mama's boy."
Olivia smiled. "I can see that."
Trevor was about to say something when the waiter came over and took their orders, for drinks and food. Olivia ordered a strawberry margarita with a sugar rim to offset the saltiness of her meal and Trevor ordered a Michelada to go with his sandwich. Once the waiter left he turned back to Olivia. "Enough of the heavy stuff, let's talk about something happy."
Olivia smiled. "Honestly the happiest thing in my life is Noah. I'm surrounded by so much darkness all the time, he's a little bit of light in my world. And I have you, largely, to thank for that."
Trevor smiled. "How's he doing?"
Olivia nodded. "He's good. He's dancing more now, and he loves it. He could dance all day every day with no breaks if you'd let him. He was always good, but he's gotten even better."
Trevor smiled. "That's wonderful. Your face lights up when you talk about Noah."
Olivia smiled. "He's an amazing kid."
Trevor looked into her eyes. "Of course he is, he has you as a mother."
Olivia nodded. "I always worry with his genes that something is hiding beneath the surface. But that's just me waiting for the other shoe to drop. Habit I'm trying to get out of."
Trevor nodded. "I can understand that." The waiter came back with their drinks and Trevor and Olivia thanked him.
Olivia picked up her glass and held it in the air. "To us," she whispered and clinked his glass. She took a sip of her margarita and smiled. "That's so good. Want a sip?"
Trevor took a sip of his Michaelada and nodded at her. "Would you like a sip of mine?"
They switched drinks and took a sip of each other's. "Ooh, that's delicious," Olivia said nodding.
Trevor smiled. "Yours is sweet." He handed her back her glass and she handed Trevor back his.
Olivia picked up a chip. "Is that a good thing, Counselor?" She took a bite of the chip and smiled coyly.
Trevor shrugged. "I'm not a big sweets guy. But, I do love my women sweet, like you."
Olivia chuckled. "Well if we get together I better be the only woman you're seeing."
Trevor smiled. "Of course. You would be the only object of my affection."
Olivia smiled and picked up her drink. "Good, and likewise."
Trevor was comfortable now, he was comfortable around Olivia in this kind of setting. "Good."
Olivia was very comfortable with Trevor. "So what about you? What are some happy things going on in your life?"
Trevor smiled. "Funny you should ask, I was going to wait to ask you, but I'm excited about it. The New York Adoption League is having its gala in about a month and a half and they asked me to be the keynote speaker. I'd love it if you would come with me."
Olivia smiled. "I'd be honored, Trevor." The waiter brought their food out and they both thanked the waiter. Olivia looked back at Trevor. "And they picked a beautiful orator. Handsome too."
Trevor blushed. "Thank you." They started eating their dinner, with some light conversation in between bites. When they finished Trevor looked into Olivia's eyes. "Now how did you manage to eat a birria quesadilla without making a mess?"
Olivia giggled. "It's an art." She shrugged. I've always been a relatively clean eater." She chuckled. "How was your sandwich?"
Trevor chuckled with her. "That was the best Cuban sandwich I've had in a long time. The pickles made it."
Olivia smiled. "Well, pickles usually do, no?"
Trevor smiled. "Girl after my own heart."
Olivia bit her bottom lip and spoke coyly. "You'd be right about that."
Trevor looked at her. "That is the first time I've ever heard any response to that statement."
Olivia threw her head back and laughed. "Well it's true, I am after your heart," she winked.
Trevor looked at her, his mouth dry. "Don't joke like that Benson."
Olivia giggled. "Not a joke. One hundred percent true." She leaned in. "And I tend to get what I want… eventually."
Trevor smirked. "Oh, Liv, you don't even have to try."
The waiter came back over and asked if they'd like dessert. Olivia smiled. "Can I please have a piece of the tres leches cake and a chamomile tea?"
Trevor looked up at the waiter. "I'll have the flan and a drip coffee." The waiter wrote down their orders and walked away.
Olivia smiled at him. "You are not going to sleep tonight."
Trevor smirked. "Care to keep me company?"
Olivia's mouth fell open. "Trevor Langan!"
Trevor laughed. "I'm kidding. I would never suggest sex on a first date. I mean if it happens it happens, but I'm old fashioned, I don't rush into sex."
Olivia looked at him. "That's refreshing to hear. I won't lie, I was getting a little nervous about the date ending. There are some things we need to talk about before we have sex, and I'm having such a lovely time I don't want to ruin it by talking about such dark things."
Trevor reached for her hand. "I completely understand. Your pace, Liv."
The waiter brought out their desserts, tea, and coffee. Olivia took a bite of her cake and she let out a moan. "Oh my god." She covered her mouth as she talked. "This is delicious. Taste it!"
Trevor took a bite of her cake on his fork. He ate it and he smiled. "That's good." He said after he finished chewing. "That's good. He took a bite of his flan. "Mm, oh that's good, have a bite," he insisted.
Olivia took a bite of his flan on her fork and took a bite. "Mm. Not too sweet but just sweet enough." She took a sip of her tea. "This meal has been amazing. I'm going to be so full after this cake."
Trevor smiled. "We can always catch a cab back to your place."
Olivia smiled. "I'd like to walk if that's okay."
Trevor nodded. "Whatever you want, beautiful."
Once they finished their dessert, Trevor flagged down the waiter, asked for the check, and gave the waiter his credit card. Olivia smiled. "Thank you, Trevor."
Trevor smiled at her. "My pleasure." Once the waiter returned with his card, Trevor put it back in his wallet then stood up and helped Olivia up and helped her into her coat, pulling her hair out of the coat. He signed the check, left a nice tip, and then walked with Olivia outside. "Back to your place?"
Olivia nodded with a smile. "That would be perfect." They walked together arm in arm, meandering through the streets back to Olivia's apartment. Olivia looked up at him. "I had a great time tonight, Trev. Thank you for asking me out and being the perfect gentleman."
Trevor looked down at her and smiled. They walked up to Olivia's apartment building and Trevor walked Olivia to her apartment. They stood in front of one another facing one another in front of her door. He brushed her hair out of her eyes. "There are your beautiful eyes."
Olivia blushed and caressed his face. "Thank you for such a lovely evening," she whispered.
Trevor brought their foreheads together and her breath hitched. She was expecting a deep, passionate kiss. That's what she wanted. "The pleasure was mine, Liv," he whispered and leaned in and kissed her cheek. He unlocked her door for her and handed her the keys back. "Have a good rest of your night."
Olivia was slightly taken aback that he didn't give her a proper kiss goodnight. She walked in the door, a little confused but feeling butterflies in her stomach. She wasn't used to not getting kissed on the first date, but everything else had gone so well, so she decided not to worry about it. She saw Martha and whispered that she was back and that the woman could go home, she thanked her and paid her for her time. She walked her out and then locked the door behind her. She kicked off her shoes and took her dress off, changing into shorts and a t-shirt for sleep. She went into her bathroom washed her face and brushed her teeth.
Once she was done she walked out to her bed and checked her phone. She had a few messages from Amanda and she responded, apologizing for the late reply, she was out on a date. Amanda wanted details and she promised them tomorrow. Just as she sent what would have been her last text before she texted Trevor goodnight, her phone dinged. It was Trevor.
Thank you for your company tonight, beautiful. I had a great time. Can't wait to see you again.
Olivia's heart fluttered. He wanted to see her again, hopefully before the gala. Maybe the kiss on the cheek was just him being a gentleman, not wanting to assume anything.
Thank you for inviting me out. I can't wait to see you again either. Hopefully before the gala?
Trevor got her message and smiled.
Name the time and place and I'll be there with bells on.
Olivia thought for a minute.
A walk through Central Park on Sunday evening?
Trevor smiled to himself.
It's a date.
Olivia smiled and took a selfie of her blowing a kiss and sent it to him with the simple text,
Goodnight
Trevor responded in kind. They put their phones on their nightstands and went to sleep, their hearts full, their stomachs fluttering with butterflies.
A/N: Thanks for reading, what did you think, I know the date conversation was a little rough, but I'm bad at that in real life, hence why I'm single. Anyway, leave a review if you're so inclined!
