Hello everyone! this is going to be my first attempt at writing a fanfic story so please be patient with me. Constructive criticism is welcome but just don't overdo it please. I was literally just watching Ash's Sinnoh journey and got the urge to do this so here I am. I have had ideas of writing one of these for a while but never followed through it because I was afraid of all the pressure and writers block, I would probably encounter on the way. I guess that's all inevitable though, so I'll see how this goes.

I will try my best not to leave this story in the dark or abandon it.

As for the story, I am not 100% where I want to go with it and how long I will make this, but I guess we will see and how much I feel like writing. Pairing is OC and Serena. My OC will be pretty cold, I kind of want to model him like Ayanokoji from Classroom of the Elite but he won't be completely emotionless all the time. Probably a little mix between Ayanokoji and Paul from Sinnoh, both characters I really liked.

Trainers can't start their journey and being a trainer till they are 16 in this story because I like that better so bite me.

Also, if you guys have any questions about the story, I will answer them at the end of the chapter. Cool? Cool.

I guess now is the part where I am supposed to say I don't own Pokémon.

*Sigh* I don't own Pokémon or the cover image. All rights go to their original owners. I do own my OC, however.

Telepathy speech

"Mom, I'm going out!" A young Junpei said to his mother. He was excited to go out and try to make friends. Him and his mother moved to Cyllage City in Kalos for reasons he didn't know, but he trusted his mother's decision.

"Ok, dear! please be careful and don't get lost, ok?! I love you!"

"I won't mom! Love you too!" He really did love his mom; she was the one who took care of him the most ever since he was little. He couldn't remember very much of his father, since he was always busy with work stuff. He sometimes overheard his mom talking to nobody in particular about how her husband didn't care for them, he only cared about his inventions and his employees.

Junpei left and walked the streets of Cyllage City, taking in his surroundings, he took a deep breath in through his nose, breathing in the fresh air. He took in the large amounts of cliffs he could see and admired them. He could see why Cyllage was dubbed as the Cliffside City. As Junpei gazed out at the shimmering expanse, the clear blue waters of Cyllage City sparkled under the sun, enhancing its reputation as the Cliffside City with breathtaking views that seemed to blend the sky and the sea into one seamless horizon.

Junpei started towards some cliffs in the far distance, as he walked, he had to go through a forest to get to the cliffs. He noticed all kinds of pokemon just chilling. He realized how cool pokemon are and how peaceful they can be, he couldn't understand how some people wanted to hurt them. They were innocent creatures who minded their own business.

Throughout his bout through the forest, he saw various pokemon like Bunnelby, Fletchling, Skiddo, Goomy, and a Karrablast. He smiled at all of them, not wanting to disturb them. He eventually made his way past the forest and the cliff was now right in front of him. He took notice that the cliffs were a lot taller when he got up close, he took note of a small lake to his right where he looked in and saw some Basculine, Skrelp, and Clauncher.

"Wow! So cool!"

He looked around once more, and his eyes widened in surprise and shock as he noticed someone scaling the large cliff further down. The mysterious madman moved with the ease of someone well-practiced like they had done it before, their silhouette outlined sharply against the bright sky. Junpei felt a surge of curiosity mixed with admiration. Who could this be, fearlessly ascending the steep precipices?

Eager to learn more, Junpei quickened his pace along the edge of the cliff, keeping a safe distance. As he drew closer, the details of the climber became clearer. He could make out, that they were male, his figure was agile, their movements confident and fluid, gripping the rocky surface with the expertise of a seasoned climber. However, doing it with no equipment still caused Junpei to have his doubts.

Junpei couldn't help but call out, "Hey! Be careful up there Mister!"

The climber paused, looking down at Junpei with an expression he guessed to have been a smile. "Thanks! Almost there!" the unknown climber's voice echoed, surprisingly cheerful. The climber's positive attitude amidst such a risky endeavor intrigued Junpei even more. He decided to wait and watch, hoping to meet the intrepid adventurer at the top.

Junpei made it to the top of the cliff, he had found a hill further down which he deemed safe enough to walk up. He was waiting for the mysterious climber now who was just about at the top of the cliff. The man was now just below where Junpei was standing and reached his hand to offer assistance to pull the man up. The man took it and thanked him. He could now make out the man's appearance.

The climber, now just an arm's reach away, was a tall, lean figure with an impressive athletic build, clearly accustomed to physical challenges. His short, spiky hair was jet black, adding a striking contrast to his youthful appearance, his skin tone was a little darker than the cliffs he climbed. His eyes, a piercing shade of gray, scanned the cliff edge with precision as he pulled himself up. Despite his youth, he exuded a sense of discipline and maturity that seemed beyond his years. His voice, confident and resonant, commanded respect, yet his name remained unknown to Junpei for now.

"That was some climbing out there! It was really impressive!" Junpei said admirably, he thought what the man was doing was extremely reckless and dangerous. His inner thoughts kept telling him how cool it was though!

"Thanks, kid! I love climbing so much when I see a wall or something I can climb, I just can't help myself but climb it and overcome it. I see them as an obstacle to conquer!" The still nameless climber replied to Junpei.

"What's your name?" Junpei asked curiously, desperately trying to get information on the cool, calm, collected, rock climber.

"My name is Grant. What's yours?" The rock climber now identified as Grant supplied his name to the mysterious worrisome kid in front of him.

"I'm Junpei! Nice to meet you!"

"Junpei huh? Good to meet you, kid. I don't think I have seen you around here before." Grant deduced

"You would be right, my family just moved here from Hoenn." Junpei happily told him, he didn't want to scare away his potential first friend or make Grant think he was weird, so he opted to turn down his enthusiasm.

Grant then got close to his face fast, so fast Junpei didn't know how a human could raise their speed stat that much! Grant had stars in his eyes and spoke in a loud shocked voice.

"HOENN?! WHAT KIND OF MOUNTAINS DO THEY HAVE THERE! ARE THEY PRETTY? HOW TALL? WHATS THE DIAMETER OF THEM!? TELL ME PLEASEE JUNPEIII!" Grant asked calmly, obsessing over the mountains which he had never gotten to climb or experience before. Junpei sweatdropped.

Junpei, not exactly sure how to reply, took a few steps back and took a breath while scratching the back of his head.

"Uhhh I don't know Grant, they're pretty, I guess? I have no clue how to answer your other questions, I'm only 10 man..." Junpei said, hoping that would be enough for him to back off.

"Hmm, I see...I guess you make a good point." Grant said, and suddenly Junpei made a drastic realization...that no matter how weird he could act, he couldn't compare to Grant. But Junpei was okay with that either way, weird makes someone unique, and the world would be so fucking lame if everyone was the same.

Approximately an hour and a half had gone by since Junpei and Grant encountered each other, and they had sat down at the edge of the cliff just talking. "So, Grant how old are you?" Junpei asked this because he noticed that Grant seemed decently older than he was, evident by his voice and his body which were both significantly more mature than his. Grant replied that he was 16, which prompted Junpei to ask if he was a trainer. "Yes, I am a trainer," Grant said while smiling warmly. "Can I see the starter pokemon you chose?!" Junpei asked, he had always wanted to see a starter pokemon to get ready for when he got to start his journey of being a trainer. "Umm well here is the thing Junpei, I kind of have a starter and I kind of don't," Grant said hesitantly, he didn't know how a young kid like Junpei would react to seeing his pokemon. "What do you mean Grant? Did you wake up late and not get one of the starters from the professor, I'm like 99% sure that NOBODY has ever been that stupid." Junpei said with confidence beaming from him, "Well not exactly. I could never be THAT dumb. But I guess I'll show you." Grant finished while simultaneously reaching into his small bag attached to his pants and pulling out a small ball with the top half being red and the bottom half white. So, this was the famous Pokeball he had heard so much about on TV.

A white light enveloped the ball as Grant released his pokemon which took the shape of a decently sized dino pokemon with a large jaw, Tyrunt. Tyrunt let out a small roar while looking around, "Junpei, this is my partner Tyrunt." Grant said while scratching Tyrunt under its massive jaw, causing Tyrunt to coo in satisfaction. "That's awesome Grant!" Junpei said whilst walking over to Tyrunt, "Hey Tyrunt, I'm Junpei! Nice to meetcha!" He then gave Tyrunt a soft head pat. "So, Grant, care to let me in on how you have Tyrunt in the first place?"

"Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by rock-type Pokémon. My father, a dedicated Pokémon archaeologist who specialized in fossils, really inspired that passion," Grant began, his voice reflecting a deep fondness for his past. "He spent years exploring caves and excavating sites, always on the lookout for rare and ancient Pokémon fossils. On my 16th birthday, he came home with a special gift—the Jaw Fossil. He said, 'Grant, this is more than just a fossil; it's a chance to make a lifelong friend.' With his help, we revived the fossil at the Pokémon Lab, and that's how I met Tyrunt here."

Grant paused, his gaze affectionate as he looked down at Tyrunt, who nudged his hand gently. "Reviving Tyrunt wasn't just about adding a Pokémon to my team; it was about continuing a legacy. My father taught me that each rock type has a story etched in stone, a history of the ancient world that is waiting to be told. That's why I want to specialize in rock types and someday, I hope to become a gym leader, to inspire other trainers the way my father inspired me. Each battle, each challenge is a step towards that dream, a way to honor the past and shape the future."

"Wow Grant, I had no idea it extended that deep..." "That's amazing, I just know you two are going to be the best of friends." "And That's so cool you want to be a gym leader, I hope you get super strong so that when I become a trainer, then we can battle head-to-head!" Junpei said with a burning passion and fire in his eyes. Grant's eyes widened at this, before closing them. "Hmph, you got good spirit Junpei." He opened his eyes and extended his hand towards Junpei. "It's a promise then!" Grant said while eyeing down Junpei sharply. Junpei took his hand in Grants, "Yep, it's a promise!" "You better make sure to grow strong too Junpei!" Grant said finally.

"Is it ok if I ask one more question Grant?"

Grant nodded.

"Why do you like rock climbing so much?" Junpei thought it was quite a simple question, but somehow, he knew the answer was something complex. At the same time, he impatiently waited for the answer like an Eevee waiting for an evolution stone.

"Truthfully, I don't exactly recall when I first began rock climbing, it feels like it's just always been a part of who I am," Grant shared, his gaze drifting towards the rugged cliffs around them. "Ever since I was a boy, I've been drawn to the challenge of it, the way it pushes you to your limits and tests your resolve. For me, rock climbing is more than just a physical activity; it's a pathway to a different perspective, a way to rise above the mundane and glimpse something almost like enlightenment. When you're up there, clinging to the edge, you see the world from a vantage point that not many can reach, it changes you, it centers you. It's exhilarating and deeply meditative all at once."

"Maybe I'll give it a try one day." Junpei said, letting out a small smile while looking up at the stars..."Wait...the stars!? Oh man it's so late, my mom is so not going to be happy with me!" Junpei said sadly. "Junp-" Grant tried to speak but Junpei cut him off "Hey sorry Grant, it was great talking to you, but I got to get back, we'll talk soon, ok?!" Junpei shouted while running towards the small forest's exit which he thought was the way.

In the dim light of the moon filtering through the forest canopy, Junpei dashed through the underbrush, his heart pounding in his chest. He thought he was taking a shortcut back to Cyllage City, but as the familiar paths twisted into unfamiliar shadows, he realized he had taken a wrong turn. His breath came in ragged gasps as he pushed through the low-hanging branches, trying to retrace his steps.

Suddenly, a rustling from the dense foliage made him stop in his tracks. His eyes widened as several glowing eyes appeared in the darkness, a group of 3 angry Zangoose emerged, their claws gleaming under the moonlight. "Zangoose goos!" one of them cried, Zangoose were known for their territorial nature, the Zangoose didn't take kindly to Junpei's accidental intrusion. With a collective hiss, they advanced towards him.

Junpei turned and ran, dodging and weaving as the Zangoose launched themselves at him. He felt a claw graze his arm, another snagged his jacket, tearing it. Pain shot through his leg as one managed a deeper cut. Stumbling over a root, Junpei fell to the ground, his head spinning as he tried to get back on his feet. It looked hopeless; the Zangoose were closing in, their snarls filling the night air.

Just as one of the Zangoose leaped towards him, a fierce howl pierced the night, and a dark blur slammed into the attacking Pokémon. Junpei scrambled to a tree and looked back, his eyes wide with disbelief. A Deino, its body a mass of dark scales, was fiercely battling the Zangoose, snapping and biting with ferocity. The Zangoose, taken aback by the sudden counterattack, hesitated, giving Junpei a moment to catch his breath.

Deino, though blind, used its impeccable sense of smell and hearing to dodge the swipes and retaliate with powerful bites. One by one, the Zangoose began to retreat, realizing that their opponent's ferocity outweighed their numbers. After a tense few minutes, the forest quieted down, the last of the Zangoose disappearing into the darkness.

Junpei, panting heavily, approached the Deino cautiously. "Hey there, thanks for saving me," he said softly, extending a hand slowly towards it. Deino sniffed his hand then nudged it gently, accepting his gesture. Junpei smiled, relief washing over him as he patted the brave Pokémon. "You're a real hero, you know that?" he murmured.

Despite his injuries, Junpei felt a surge of gratitude and wonder at the unexpected protector who had come to his aid in the forest. With Deino's help, he slowly made his way back to the path that would lead him home, his new friend guiding him safely out of the forest's deceptive maze.

Once they had reached the edge of the forest and back to Cyllage City, Junpei turned around and bowed to Deino, showing his thanks once again for saving him. "If not for you Deino, I don't know what would have happened to me!" "Deinoo." Deino cooed then rubbed against Junpei softly trying to comfort him. Junpei gave Deino a soft head pat and then ran home to not keep his mother waiting further.

Deino let out a disappointed soft whimper before heading back into the forest, Deino had a good feeling about that boy, but now he's gone. He hoped they would be able to encounter each other again as he walked back to his cave deeper in the forest.

**FEW DAYS LATER,**

Junpei's mom still wasn't happy with how late he stayed out that night, but she went light on the punishment and only prohibited him from going out for 3 days. She would've gone heavier, but she didn't want to make him into a shut-in and possibly have him make no other friends. The second that his mom gave him the ok, Junpei burst outside and made two goals for that day, find and talk to Grant some more, and find Deino and make him his friend. His mom was an excellent cook and made some really good pokemon food too. She made some especially for Deino when Junpei told her what Deino did for him.

Junpei hurried to the forest, and of course...found Grant climbing the cliffs again. "Didn't you just climb that one a few days ago Grant?" "Oh! hey Junpei, haven't seen you in a few days but to answer your question, yes, I did climb this one. But you see, the rocks, they speak to me, they call to me and so I must answer their calls." "I have to do one climb, every day to keep my passion fresh and burning!" Grant said fired up. "Ok cool Grant you do that; I have some other business to attend to," Junpei said walking away.

Junpei explored through the forest for about half an hour before coming across a cave. He had read about Deinos while he was on house arrest, and he remembered reading that they lived in caves a large majority of the time near big water sources. Junpei hoped that he could recompense Deino for the debt he owed it, he wondered if the food would do the trick. Wondering deeper into the cave, he kept quiet because he knew if Deino wasn't in here, something else definitely was.

As Junpei delved deeper into the cave, the light from the entrance dwindled until darkness enveloped him. The air was cool and damp, echoing with the faint sounds of dripping water. He moved carefully, his steps cautious as he navigated the rocky ground, guided only by a small flashlight he'd brought along.

Suddenly, a low growl resonated through the darkness. Junpei froze, his heart racing as he tried to pinpoint the source. The growl intensified, and he could hear the distinct sound of footsteps approaching. It was Deino, his body tense, ready to defend his territory against the intruder. Remembering Deino's blindness, Junpei remained still, hoping to avoid startling the Pokémon further.

In an attempt to calm the situation, Junpei gently spoke up, "Hey, it's just me, Junpei! Remember me?" Junpei stupidly hit himself in the head, 'Why would I say my name as I introduced myself.' The growling then paused, and there was a moment of silence as Deino processed the familiar voice. Tentatively, Junpei stepped into a shred of light that seeped through a crack in the cave's ceiling, allowing Deino to recognize him by the silhouette.

Instantly, Deino's demeanor changed, and he reared up on his hind legs, a gesture Junpei remembered reading was a sign of happiness in Deino. Relief washed over him, and he chuckled softly, "It's good to see you too, buddy."

Junpei then reached into his backpack and pulled out a container filled with the special Pokémon food his mother had prepared. "I brought something for you," he said, setting the container down. Deino sniffed the air, intrigued by the aroma, and quickly began to eat, his tail wagging slightly.

As Deino enjoyed his meal, Junpei sat down beside him, feeling a bond forming between them. "I wanted to thank you for that night," Junpei continued, watching Deino eat. "You saved me. I hope this food helps repay the debt I feel I owe you."

Deino finished eating and nudged Junpei gently with his head, indicating his acceptance and gratitude. Junpei smiled, patting Deino's head affectionately. "Looks like we're friends now, huh?" he murmured, feeling a sense of accomplishment. His first mission of the day had been a success.

Satisfied that Deino was content, Junpei stood up, ready to leave the cave and find Grant. As he turned to leave, Deino followed him to the cave entrance, seemingly reluctant to part ways. Junpei promised, "I'll come visit you again soon, Deino. Take care of yourself until then."

With a final pat on Deino's head, Junpei left the cave, his spirits lifted by the successful reconciliation and the new friendship he had solidified. He now looked forward to reuniting with Grant, ready to share his experiences and learn more about the climbing enthusiast's adventures. The day was still young, and Junpei felt that anything was possible.

"Uh-huh, so this Deino saved you?" Grant said, "Yep, and now we're friends!" Junpei replied happily. "Junpei. Do you realize how rare it is to encounter a Deino?" Grant said which made Junpei think for a moment. "Uhm no guess not..." "Ok well, it's like super rare, its final evolved form is Hydreigon! A freaking Pseudo-Legendary! Not to mention it will grow up to be a very powerful pokemon!"

"Hydreigon huh..." Junpei said quietly to himself.

"Hydreigon, yeah..." Junpei mused, the weight of Grant's words sinking in. He turned to look back towards the cave where he'd left Deino, a mix of awe and excitement brewing within him. "That's incredible. I had no idea."

Grant clapped a hand on Junpei's shoulder, his face serious but his eyes twinkling with a hint of envy. "You've got yourself a potential powerhouse there, kid. If you play your cards right, you and Deino could become quite the team."

The thought excited Junpei. The idea of venturing into the world of Pokémon training with such a rare and powerful partner by his side was more than he could have hoped for when he first moved to Cyllage City. "I guess I've got a lot to learn about Pokémon," he admitted, looking up at Grant with newfound respect.

"That's the spirit! Everyone starts somewhere," Grant replied, his tone encouraging. "And remember, it's not just about power. It's about understanding your Pokémon, training with them, and growing together. If you're ever interested in some tips, you know where to find me."

"I'll remember that. Thanks, Grant," Junpei said, feeling reassured. He glanced back once more towards the cave, thinking about Deino. The day's events sparked a determination in him to learn more about Pokémon and to prepare for the day he could officially start his journey as a trainer.

With a new goal in mind, Junpei's thoughts turned to the future. "I think I'll start by learning everything I can about Deino and how to best help it grow. Maybe I'll look into those Pokémon training books my mom used to mention."

"Good plan," Grant nodded, impressed with Junpei's initiative. "And hey, maybe one day we'll have that battle you're looking forward to."

Junpei grinned. "Yeah, I'd like that. It's a deal!"

With their plans loosely laid out and the sun beginning to set, the two parted ways. Junpei headed home, his mind racing with ideas and plans for the future. As he walked, he couldn't help but feel that his accidental encounter with Deino had been a turning point, one that had set him on a path filled with adventure and challenges. He vowed to do everything he could to make himself and Deino the best trainer and pokemon the world had ever seen.

As the stars began to twinkle above Cyllage City, Junpei reached his home, his heart full of hope and anticipation for what lay ahead. His brief encounter with the world of Pokémon had ignited a passion that he knew would drive him forward. He went to bed that night with dreams of battles, journeys, and the powerful Hydreigon that Deino would one day become, his imagination running wild with the possibilities that awaited him in the vast, exciting world of Pokémon.

PHEW

That was kinda crazy for a prologue i dont know.

If you guys are having a hard time picturing Junpei just use the cover art as a reference as thats basically him. Maybe I will give a description next chapter.

I dont know how strong I want to make Junpei in this but I do want him to be very strong and getting stronger so he probably won't be like OP in the start of his journey.

We will see more of Junpei's cold side next chapter as the flashback is done.

As for the romance, that will be introduced later possibly as early as next chapter Serena will be introduced. No timetable for their relationship though.

Hope you guys enjoyed and please let me know your thoughts! Constructive criticism is encouraged so please feel free.

Again, if you guys have any questions, I will answer them at the end of the chapter if there are any.

Thanks Guys, Ussyllis out
