A/N #1: It was great to receive the feedback I did for the last two chapters so I'll go ahead and get started on my thank yous for that! TORONTOSUN (I was really glad that you liked the Queen song I'm using for this story. Also that it was a very good pick since I was eager to use it for this story!) and

Mb (I had to laugh at what you said about the car, but as I read your review and saw you like classic cars it made sense. Also at least this is a fake car! But yeah, glad the chapter made that much of an impact on you since I wanted it to do exactly that! So nice to see you're looking forward to the case now! You're welcome for the chapter and Happy Easter to you and your family too!) and

Mb (I wasn't surprised you noted Castle and Beckett's lovemaking in the morning with that leading to them not wanting to get up to start the week. And yeah, I definitely remember being at school and that last week before Christmas, lol, not surprised you do too. Yeah, I've heard a lot about new parents having trouble, so I figured Alexis and Louis would definitely have that too with twins. And I knew that Louis would be really happy about his family joining them for Christmas so I wasn't surprised you'd noticed it. I had to laugh at you saying that it was going to be fun times ahead for everyone since the vic for the new case is high profile. You're welcome for sharing the first half of the chapter! I wasn't surprised you thought the mystery was deepening with the wife of the vic being murdered too. And I'm really happy the case is perplexing already, lol, that was definitely my plan! Yeah, you'll have to see how it goes with the suspect right now, lol, but again, great it's got layers and has you questioning! Really pleased that you're looking forward to more. You're welcome for the second half of the chapter. Thanks again and Happy Easter again to you!).

Thanks for the reviews, I loved reading them and am grateful for the time taken to write them out and send them my way!

A/N #2: The title of this chapter is a lyric from the song I'm in Love with My Car written by Roger Taylor, from the Queen album A Night at the Opera.

All I Hear Is Your Gear

"Corwin!" Brad yelled at the man when he was speeding through the backyard of the house. He tried to grab for the lawyer when he vaulted himself up the fence but only managed to get the man's shoe before he was disappearing on the other side. "Damnit," he swore bitterly before he turned to his consultants. Finding there was only one he asked, "Where are Castle and Beckett?"

"I think they went around," Darnley answered before he was following the chief while he was taking off for the garage.

Walking behind his wife since they were still on the gravel alley, Castle wanted to ask her if she was sure about their splitting off from the other two. But he was aware from the way she was holding herself that she was focusing heavily on the backyard of their possible suspect's house. He could hear Brad yelling again before they saw the fence shaking at the same time hands were gripping the top.

"Corwin freeze!" Beckett said after the man fell into a heap on the other side.

"Ah, my leg!" Corwin said in a groan. "I think it's broken."

"That's your own fault," Castle said.

"Get Brad," Beckett nearly snapped at him, not appreciating the comment though she understood why her husband had uttered it. She was a little concerned when Castle looked serious as he nodded to her and she reminded herself to talk to him later. Turning to Corwin she said, "Don't move."

"You bitch," the lawyer hissed. "I can't."

"Better for you," Beckett said, looking to the end of the alley.

"Hey… this is about… Bernard Vernon right?" Corwin said, moving to lay on his back. When the woman he knew worked with the Hamptons police looked at him he said, "I heard from a friend at my firm. I knew I'd be suspect numero uno so I came to my garage."

"He says he's broken his leg," Beckett called to Brad when he appeared finally with Darnley and her husband.

"Patrick?" Corwin said in surprise.

"Yeah, it's you," Darnley said with a sigh. He saw Castle and Beckett were looking at him and said, "I had two Owen Corwins this year as clients so I didn't want to bring that up just in case. I was lucky to get a payment for what I made."

"It's for my girlfriend," Corwin hissed.

"And what's her name?" Brad asked, having returned from calling to the station for an ambulance.

"Helga Eaton," Corwin said.

"Really, we heard she liked Bernard," Castle stated, glancing at his wife briefly.

"Yeah, she would say that to make me jealous," Corwin replied. "But we've been together for six months."

"And what was your alibi for this morning?" Brad asked. "Between four and six."

Laughing mirthlessly, Corwin said, "I was banging my girlfriend, I had to go into my firm early, six, and we were going separate ways for the holidays."

"And why would she tell me that she was alone last night?" Brad asked.

"Did you not hear? I'm separating from my wife," Corwin replied.

"And you have a prenup," Darnley said.

While the lawyer was nodding the four standing were looking at the street the alley opened up onto when they heard the siren of the ambulance. After the medics were outside Brad headed over to them and they were soon getting Corwin on the stretcher they'd brought with them.

"Rick-" Beckett said softly while she was holstering her gun.

"No… let's wait until we're in a better place," Castle told her firmly. When she nodded he squeezed her arm briefly before they were looking at the chief while he walked over to them.

"I'm going to the hospital," Brad said. "I need a more formal statement from him but you guys can get in touch with Eaton for me."

"Do you think she'll talk to us?" Darnley asked.

"To me," Beckett said before Brad could respond.

"I would appreciate it," the chief said, nodding to her. "I'll come back to the station as soon as I can but call if you have something."

After promising they would, Castle went with his wife and Darnley to their car down the street before the carpenter was stopping them.

"Do you two need some time alone?" Darley asked them.

"No, we just need to talk for a little," Beckett said. "We'll do it at the station."

"Okay, just wanted to make sure," Darnley said, studying the two of them.

"We are," Castle said firmly before they were getting in the car after his wife had tried to give him the keys.

"So… what do you think about Corwin?" Darnley asked.

"I would have like- stop!" Castle said suddenly. Jerking forward with Darnley when Beckett was abruptly bringing the car to a stop he said, "The car in the garage. I want to see it."

"Do you think there's something to it? It looked like a Packard," Beckett told her husband.

"I know, but there was something about it I didn't like," Castle said. "I can't explain it."

"Alright, Brad's probably on his way to the hospital," Beckett said.

"I'll call him," Darnley said while his friend was turning the car around.

When they reached the driveway Castle was first out and he raced up to the garage where he saw Wade was standing at the car. "How did you get here so fast?" he asked in surprise.

"Flew, no I heard the call for an ambulance and assumed Chief needed help," the officer said. "What is it?"

"I wanted to see the engine in this car," Castle said. "Do you have a flashlight on you?" When Wade immediately handed him one he took it and was shining it down on the engine that was in the car but not fully hooked up.

"What is it?" Beckett asked, watching her husband.

"The engine," Castle said.

"It's not the Phantom is it?" Darnley said in concern.

"It might be," Castle said before Wade was starting to speak carefully.

"Should I get in touch with the chief?" the officer asked.

"I think you should," Castle said, looking at his wife and Darnley.

"Well… we're alone now," Castle said slowly as they were leaving the station in their car.

"Yes we are," Beckett said before she was looking at her husband. She reached over to him and gently squeezed his hand before she said, "I'm sorry I snapped at you."

"I'm sorry for my reaction," Castle said, not surprised when she instantly looked startled. "I was annoyed."

"Which you had a right to be," Beckett said.

"And it took me back," Castle said. He expected his wife's look, even more so when she was stopping at an intersection and he continued with, "To when you seemed to be angry with me a lot." She started to open her mouth to speak and he held his hand out to her to say in a rush, "You did have reason but I enjoy not incurring your irritation these days."

Smiling, Beckett drove through the intersection and said, "I'm not surprised. Or that it made you remember that. But that's what happens in high tension incidents."

With a brief nod Castle said, "You don't have to worry, I got over remembering that and I understand why you reacted towards me the way you did."

"Then we're good?" Beckett asked him.

"We are," Castle replied, taking her hand and then kissing at the back of it gently since she had stopped at another intersection. "Remind me to do better later," he added since he'd had to let her go so she could drive again.

"I will," Beckett said with a smile. She then became serious and asked him, "What are you thinking?"

"I don't know if I want to commit to anything until I see an engine in the garage at the house," Castle said. "But I really don't like there not being an ID number on the engine for the Packard."

"Are you sure you looked everywhere?" Beckett asked.

Since he was aware his wife didn't know much about the engine for the Phantom, Castle said, "It's an older engine."

"You need to talk to Corwin don't you?" Beckett asked.

"Yeah," Castle said. "Though again, I want to see if the engine is at the house." He stopped there since his wife was reaching the security checkpoint at the community their vics had lived.

"We're-" Beckett started to say.

"I see the cruiser coming up ma'am," the security guard interrupted her, waving his hand briefly to the car behind them. "You can go in."

"Thank you," Beckett said since her husband had turned to look out the back windshield.

"It's Brad," Castle commented when his wife was driving past the open gate. He sat straight again and asked, "Are we in trouble?"

"I doubt it," Beckett commented. "Though I wonder what's going on with Corwin."

"Maybe he needed to have surgery?" Castle asked. He wasn't surprised when his wife was only nodding in agreement before they were driving up to the house. As soon as Brad had gotten out of his car he was saying, "We-"

"Don't worry," the chief interrupted him. "I finished at the hospital and Vance let me know what you two were doing. So I'm tagging along. You know, to make it legal."

"We…" Castle started to say with a wince.

"It's alright, it would have been legal," Brad said. "Anything to add?" he asked Beckett.

"I'd like to get inside to see the garage," she said simply.

"Sure," Brad said before they were heading to the driveway to make their way down it.

"You never said anything about Corwin," Beckett reminded the chief.

"There isn't much to say," Brad said, looking back at them. "He had to go in for surgery, his arm was broken too and he needs some hardware; the bone was starting to poke through the skin."

"How did none of us notice that?" Castle commented.

"He was wearing a long sleeved shirt," Brad said.

"Are you going back to the hospital?" Beckett asked him.

"I want to but I'll call his doctor first before I commit to that," Brad commented before they were walking around the four car garage to reach the door. "You two would have gotten the cops called on you," he told them jokingly as he was getting the door unlocked.

"We're not that bad at… never mind," Castle started to say before he looked at his wife and saw the expression on her face.

"I don't think your making out ploy would have worked in this case," Brad said, stepping inside the structure first. "The neighborhood's seen you already."

"Can we go inside?" Beckett asked.

"You can," Brad said, turning around before he paused.

"Brad-" Castle started to say in surprise.

"Sorry, this is really well organized," Brad told them, stepping aside to allow them to enter. "I know," he said when he saw the way they were looking around. "But I'm not sure Castle."

"I have to agree with him," Beckett told her husband. "The room is clear of any engines and there aren't any secret rooms."

"I know," Castle said. "Can we go back into the house?"

"Where?" Brad asked immediately.

"The office, I think if there's a hidden room it's there," Castle said.

"Mrs. Vernon was found there," Beckett commented.

"How was she found?" Castle asked before Brad could respond. "Do you remember the exact position she was in?"

"Yeah, come on," Brad said simply before they were walking out and he locked the door behind them. He paused and then said, "Their cars are both here."

"I have a theory about that," Beckett commented.

"Tell us while we're walking," Brad instructed her.

Glancing at her husband, since she thought he might joke about the chief being fine with her theories, Beckett was a little surprised when he didn't say anything but quickly shook herself. "They left together right?" she asked. At a nod from both her husband and the chief she then said, "Wherever they went or on the way there they were stopped and kidnapped. Before we left the station Fox told us there was nothing from their cellphones since they left home."

"I told Vance to try and help Emerson with that," Brad replied.

"Did you tell anyone to start culling the cameras on the streets?" Castle asked him.

"Of course, if this helps the case then… it may help the cameras being here," Brad said.

"David will be happy about that," Castle commented before they were walking into the house. After they were in the kitchen he and his wife were heading to the office after Brad.

"Okay," the chief said, turning to his friend when they were at the doorway. "Her feet were just sticking out into the entry but her body was towards the side of the doorway further inside the house."

"Then it's along the back wall," Castle said, staring to walk to the room before he paused and then turned his attention to the chief before he was talking rapidly.

"Go ahead, but you both better put these on," Brad said, taking gloves out of his pocket. When they were holding them he got another pair and was pulling them on rapidly before he and Beckett were following Castle.

Hugging the inner wall, Castle was feeling along the bookshelves before he paused at one. "Did you notice?" he asked his wife.

"I did," Beckett replied with a nod before she and Brad looked on while he was pressing at something before the bookshelves swung out.

"Good guess," Brad commented.

"It wasn't a guess, I thought he'd have it in the garage since it's big," Castle said.

"So you just knew he'd have a secret room when you disproved that," Brad commented, he and Beckett walking up to him.

"He always talked about speakeasies," Beckett said.

"She's right, to the point where you got sick of them but there's always the idea of a button concealing everything," Castle said before he was looking into the room.

Hearing her husband's muttered curse, Beckett hurried the rest of the way to him and saw the empty room, though there was a stand where an engine could have been hanging. "It was here," she said, looking behind her at Brad.

"Yeah," the chief said, seeing the same they had. He frowned for a moment and said, "What do you think about heading to the hospital?"

"I think we should get in touch with Patrick," Beckett told the men.

"Right," Brad said with a sigh. "Okay, let's go back to the station. I'll call the hospital to check on Corwin and you can tell Patrick what we've got so far." They left the office while he was getting his phone out of his pocket and the said, "I have to call CSU to look at the room… where did you press for the door to open?"

"Here," Castle said, showing him.

"Should we talk to Harrington?" Beckett asked.

Pausing, Brad said, "Alright, but just keep it to the Phantom okay? Corwin was trying something with it, we just need to figure out what before we go see him," looking at his friend when he was speaking hesitantly.

"He knew how important that car was to the museum," Castle said. "But I'm doubting he was really trying to get the car."

"Was that just a rumor?" Beckett asked.

"It likely was," Brad said since the question was directed to him. "But remember the source of the gossip was said to be Eaton."

"Who is apparently Corwin's girlfriend," Castle said. He looked at his wife and they said at the same time, "Harrington."

"Bring her to the station," Brad said. "But tell her it's just an interview."

Leaving the house, Castle was about to lead the way to Harrington's when he paused at the sound of the phone ringing, turning to his wife since he'd quickly discerned it was hers.

"It's Patrick," Beckett said. "Hello?" she asked, putting it on speakerphone.

"Hey, you need to get here now," Darnley said in a rush on the other end. "Harrington and Eaton both showed up in the lobby and they're in a screaming- hey!"

"Patrick," Beckett said when the line went out. There was no answer and she was hurrying with her husband and Brad to their cars.

"Okay, okay! I know you two hate each other but this isn't the place to get into an actual fight," Darnley was saying to the two women who were seated on benches in the lobby. "But the chief and-" he started to say before he was cut off by the sound of the door opening behind him. Turning he said, "The chief is here."

"What's going on?" Brad asked in obvious annoyance, looking between the two women who were handcuffed.

"Ms. Harrington came in first, she had found a letter from the vics," Darnley said before they were looking at Eaton when she was snorting.

"Hold on," Brad told the woman sternly. "Keep going," he said once Eaton had turned away from them.

"Eaton came in after," Darnley said, giving him the letter Harrington had brought though it was in an evidence bag. "And they immediately started to yell at each other."

"What about the case?" Castle asked, he and his wife standing at the opening to the bullpen.

"No idea," Darnley told everyone. "I heard something about Bernard and Eileen in there but details were lost in the scuffle."

"Is anyone hurt?" Beckett asked.

"Ms. Beckett, please," Harrington said. "She-"

"Oh shut up you lying bitch," Eaton snapped. "You tell everyone I'm a gossip-"

"Enough!" Brad yelled to stop them both. "I see what's going on with you two but if you don't stop I will press charges." When the two women seemed to have calmed down he went to the door and opened it calling, "Fox, Hutchinson."

"Here sir," the officers said once they'd stepped up to the doorway.

"Take them and put one in the interview room, the other in the box," Brad said. "And keep them far apart from each other."

Watching as the two female officers were taking the women inside the bullpen, Beckett was surprised when they glared at each other but were silent. After they were in the rooms she said, "Don't start," not surprised when her husband was giving her a fake look before he was responding.

"I wasn't about to," Castle said. "But what do you think that's about?"

Beckett was about to speak but stopped herself and then said, "I don't know," honestly. She then turned her attention to Brad who was walking up to them and she said, "You want me to talk to them."

"With who took them to the rooms they're in," the chief said.

"I expected it," Beckett said when Brad looked a little uncertain. "And it's probably better because you said Eaton was touchy after you spoke to her."

"And Harrington knows you," Brad said in slight relief. "But I want to see what they say."

"Who's in the interview room?" Castle asked.

"Harrington," Brad replied before they were heading over to the room. "Darnley is in observation already and I updated him."

Nodding Beckett said, "Who's in here?"

"Hutchinson," Brad replied. "Her alibi checks out so please try and see if she knows anything about the engine."

"Of course," Beckett said. "Is she still handcuffed?"

"You can take those off," Brad said, handing her a key. "But make sure she knows if she doesn't cooperate right now we'll ask Eaton if she wants to press charges."

"You know Harrington will too," Castle couldn't help telling his friend.

"Then we'll work something out, I just want to know if that engine is enough to kill for," Brad said, the beginnings of exasperation clear in his tone.

"I'll ask," Beckett assured him before she turned to the door and went inside.

"Ms. Beckett-" Harrington started to say.

"Hold on," Beckett interrupted her. She unlocked the handcuffs and handed them to Hutchinson before she sat across from the woman.

"I didn't mean to fight her it's just…" Harrington said with a sob.

"Do you two have a history?" Beckett asked.

Harrington hesitated before she finally said, "Not that kind of history. She wasn't really receptive after we were together… once."

A little startled hearing that Beckett shared a glance with Hutchinson before she said, "And by together you mean…"

"We had sex," Harrington said. "Just once and then she started dating Corwin." She sighed and said, "I thought we had something special but obviously not. That's when we started having a kind of… feud but we don't see each other that much."

"And what were you trying to tell us when you came in?" Hutchinson asked.

"That letter," Harrington replied.

"And what was in the letter?" Beckett asked.

"They wanted me to get the engine for Bernard's Phantom," Harrington said. "But I just got it in the mail… I don't know why they mailed it they could have just given it to me."

Making a mental note to look at the postmark, Beckett said, "You're aware of the engine not being with the car?"

"Oh yeah, Bernard and Eileen said they needed to keep it hidden," Harrington replied. "It's insured for… a lot." She hesitated and then asked, "Could I head to the storage place?"

"You know where it is?" Beckett asked.

"Yeah, they said that it was at the storage place on Clover," Harrington said. "You have to at least get it yourselves and hold it safe."

"We'll do our best," Beckett said. "Wait here please," she added as she stood. She wasn't surprised when Harrington merely nodded and she left with Hutchinson before she met Brad who was starting to leave observation.

"She's either lying or they didn't tell her," the chief said.

"But why would they send her a letter that doesn't say anything about where the engine actually is?" Castle asked while he was handing the letter to his wife.

"When was it mailed?" Beckett said after she'd gone through what was typed quickly.

"The thing is… it wasn't," Brad said. "There's a postmark, but it's off."

"Forgery?" Beckett said, looking up at him.

"No, those are their signatures, though of course if they were forced under duress…" Brad said.

"Then we're in agreement both vics were kidnapped," Castle said.

"They were tortured into giving up the location of the engine but they lied," Beckett took up.

"And when the killer realized that they decided to give the letter they found at the house… or forced the Vernons to give them," Castle said.

"To see if Harrington would take them to the actual location of the engine since they've killed the Vernons," Beckett said.

"Why would they kill them without getting the engine?" Darnley asked.

"I have to agree," Brad said with a nod.

"It's not to explain the murders," Beckett said. "More the letter," she added, looking at her husband when he was speaking thoughtfully.

"Or it's our motive," Castle said.

"But who took it?" Darnley said.

"I know, the letter is the problem," Castle commented with a nod.

"Should we speak to Eaton now?" Beckett asked.

"Yeah, let me talk to Hutchinson," Brad replied before he was leaving them.

"You know, I think she has a thing for married straight women," Darnley commented, turning from the window in observation. He looked at Castle and Beckett and seeing the expressions on their faces he said, "You're… you couldn't tell?"

"Not really," Castle said.

"He's right, and I was right in front of her," Beckett said.

"When she spoke about her time with Eaton, mentioning Eileen and…" Darnley said before he trailed off. "Yeah, mentioning those two."

"How're you sure Eaton's straight?" Castle asked.

"His gaydar is good," Beckett commented, turning back to them from checking on Harrington through the window.

"She's right, they say it doesn't exist but you get the idea after seeing the person for a while," Darnley said. "And seeing the start of that fight… I can tell."

"But Eaton isn't married," Castle couldn't help pointing out.

"No, but that's probably because Corwin's still married," Beckett told him before Brad was walking to them, speaking as Hutchinson was retrieving Harrington.

"Does anyone think Eaton's going to have any idea about the engine?" the chief said.

"Not really, but we'd have to see what she says," Darnley said. He saw the expression on Beckett's face and said, "You have something in mind?"

"I do," she replied. "If I have your permission," Beckett then told Brad.
