A/N I wanted to do something new so i'm taking all of the rugrats episodes and putting ocs in them. the rugrats will still be in the stories. i know I've written a few rugrats episodes using ocs, but i want a place where i can keep track of them all so i'm making a really long multi chapter story. As always ideas and suggestions are always appriciated and if you have any ocs you want me to use for a particular episode pm me. With that out of the way onto the first chapter.
Ji Yeon's First Birthday
''Happy birthday.'' Mi Sun said coming into the kitchen with Ji Yeon and pouring herself a cup of coffee into a travel mug.
''Thank you. Are we all set for today?'' Jin asked handing the creamer to his wife.
''Her hanbok arrived yesterday. The food is all made. All that's left to do is gather the items.'' Mi Sun told him attempting to screw on the lid of her cup.
''Let me get that.'' Jin said screwing the lid on tight.
''Thanks.'' Mi Sun said taking the cup.''You should have Min Jun help you find all of the items we need.''
''That's a good idea.''Jin agreed.
''I have to get her to the doctor. We'll be back in a little while.
''I'll get everything ready.'' Jin assured her.
As soon as Mi Sun left Min Jun appeared in the kitchen along with Phil. Both of them were rubbing their eyes.
''Looks like you two stayed up to late.'' Jin noted as Phil and Min Jun took their seats at the table.
The two three year olds nodded.
''What's for breakfast?'' Min Jun asked.
''Cereal.'' Jin answered pouring cereal and milk into two bowls and setting them in front of the two boys.
''We have a lot to do before the party.'' Jin said sitting down to enjoy his own breakfast.
''We have to do a lot of stuff for a baby party?'' Min Jun pouted putting his spoon back in his bowl.
''You get the most important job. Jin told him.
''What is it?'' Min Jun asked eagerly.
''I need you to find the items for the doljabi.'' Jin explained.
''Like what?'' Min Jun asked as he hurried to finish his cereal.
''Money, food, a pencil. You can even pick something all by yourself.'' Jin explained.
''Ok. How do I find stuff?'' Min Jun asked putting his bowl in the sink. Phil did the same.
''Look around the house. I'll get you started.'' Jin said pulling a five dollar bill out of his pocket and handing it to Min Jun.
Min Jun put the money in his pocket and ran off.
''What's a?'' Phik struggled to pronounce the word he had heard Jin use.''That thing your daddy was talking about?''
''Doljabi.'' Min Jun clarified.''Its a small table with stuff on it.'' Min Jun explained as he opened a drawer in the kitchen and retrieved a pencil.''Ji Yeon has to pick something and whatever she picks up tells her future.''
''Oh neat. Can I help?'' Phil asked.
Min Jun nodded and went to his room. He came back in a minute with a small backpack. He put the money and pencil in the backpack and went into Ji Yeon's room.
''Why are we in here?'' Phil asked as he looked around.
''I need ideas. I want Ji Yeon to have a good future.'' Min Jun explained as he looked through some stuffed animals.
''What about this?'' Phil asked holding up a stuffed dolphin.
Min Jun shook his head.''I don't think a stuffed dolphin will give Ji Yeon will give Ji Yeon a good future.''
''Maybe Ji Yeon could learn to speak dolphin?'' Phil shrugged putting the dolphin back in the basket.
'Let's go look in the playroom.'' Min Jun suggested.
They made their way down to the basement and began looking through the toys.
''This could work.'' Min Jun said pulling out a toy stethoscope from the toy doctor bag.
''Ye ah. Ji Yeon could be a doctor.'' Phil agreed.
''Now we just need some food.'' Min Jun said stuffing the toy stethascipe into his backpack.
They made their way to the kitchen and began looking around.
''What about this?'' Phil asked as he peeled a banana and took a bite.
''That's perfect, but we can't use it if you eat it.'' Min Jun pointed out.
''Sorry.'' Phil shrugged and blushed before reaching for another banana.
Min Jun stuffed the banana into the backpack and glanced around the room.
''I don't know if we have enough stuff.''
''You got money, food, a doctor thing. What else do you need to have a good future?'' Phil asked.
''I don't know.'' Min Jun sighed.
''Are you ready to go?'' Jin asked coming into the kitchen carrying a small box.
''Where are we going?'' Min Jun asked.
''To the 's almost time for the party.'' Jin told him.
Min Jun gulped. He hoped he had gotten enough good stuff. He followed Jin to the garage and got into the car.
''Do you think we got anough good stuff?'' Phik askef as he buckled himself into his car seat.
''Maybe, but I just feel like something is missing.'' Min Jun answered. He looked over at Ji Yeon's car seat and spotted one of Ji Yeon's favorite blankets. He thought this could work. She would need to be warm in the future wouldn't she. He stuffed the pink Hello Kitty blanket into the backpack and buckled himself in. Before Min Jun knew it they were at the park.
Jin lead the way to a picnic table where the party would be.
''Where do I put this?'' Min Jun asked holding up the backpack.
''You can put it right herer.'' Jin said placing the box on the table. Min. Jun put the backpack next to the box.
''You guys can go and play while we wait for everyone to get here.'' Jin told the boys.
Min Jun wasn't in the mood to play. He was still a little worried that he didn't do a good enough job.
''Want to make mud pies while we wait?'' Phil asked. It was a hot day and nice cool mud sounded like a good idea.
''You go ahead.'' Min Jun said sitting at the edge of the sandbox.
Phil went off to play in the mud leaving Min Jun alone.
Soon enough people started to arrive. Min Jun spotted his friends along with his older cousin and aunt. He sighed in relief when he didn't see Ji Yeon anywhere. That meant the party wouldn't start yet.
''Why don't you want to play?'' Tommy asked sitting beside Min Jun as the others joined Phil at the mud puddle.
''I don't know if I picked good enough stuff for Ji Yeon's doljabi.'' Min Jun explained then seeing the confused look on Tommy's face Min Jun told him what he had told Phil.''What did you pick at your first birthday?''
''I don't remember my first birthday,but I remember Dil's and he didn't pick anything for his future. He just got presents and cake.'' Tommy explained.
Doljabi is a Korean tradition. They don't do it at American birthday parties.'' Mun Hee explained sitting down in the grass next to the boys, who were playing with the sand absentmindedly.
''What did you pick?'' Min Jun asked looking up at his older cousin.
Mun Hee thought for a minute.''Money I think. That means I'll be rich one day.''
This made Min Jun feel slightly better. After all money was something he had brought.
''I think it's time for the party to start.'' Mun Hee told them. Min Jun looked up and spotted his mom,sister,grandparents, and older siblings heading their way. Tommy ran off to bring his friends and younger brother over to the party. Their parents weren't to thrilled to see them covered in mud.
Everyone sat down to eat and then presents were opened.
Finally it was time for Ji Yeon to pick an item.
''Min Jun come help me set up.'' Jin called as he opened the box he had brought with him.
Min Jun walked over and grabbed the backpack off the table and began putting the items on a blanket.
''You did good.'' Mi Sun said coming over with Ji Yeon.
Min Jun smiled up at his mother. He no longer felt nervous. Instead he was excited to see which item Ji Yeon would choose.
''What do you think she'll pick?'' Min Jun asked as the last item was placed down om the blanket.
''I don't know. We'll see soon.'' Mi Sun said.
Everyone gathered to watch as Ji Yeon sat staring at the items.
Min Jun held his breath as his older family members all shouted around him trying to get Ji Yeon to choose what they wanted.
Finally Ji Yeon began to crawl toward an item.
''She picked the stethoscope.'' Miju cried excitedly picking her niece up.
Min Jun couldn't stop smiling. He was so happy that Ji Yeon had an item that he had picked out and not one of the more tradional items that his dad had brought in the box.
