Cleaning Break 4 - (League of Legends Gameverse, Janitor!MC)
So, the Minions are active and...
Something is going fucking wrong with one of the battlefields.
First thing first, the entire disposition was somewhat changed so that the two Nexuses were standing one beside the other. They were distant, but they were set on one end of the map rather than one for each end. And where one of the Nexuses should be there was... a familiar green cloud that reminded me of the Ruination but- but that wasn't a fucking thing since Viego and other Ruination-related Champions were actually gone with the rest of the group.
The minions were wandering around me, clearly aware that their 'awakening' was tied to the issue we were looking at. As we entered the battlefield, I quickly realized that something else was going on when I found myself holding what looked to be a digital board.
Ah! Finally you are here, Temporary Agent!
A familiar disembodied voice exclaimed, but it wasn't the 'Whisperer'. This one was a younger kind of female.
"Who?"
Oh, I am sorry! It's just- this is not part of what anyone had expected and I am the 'acting overseer' of the Resting Grounds. Please, call me Halial!
"Nice to meet you-"
Sorry, sorry! But we can't linger on presentations for too long! A big issue is currently unfolding and I require your assistance, Temporary Agent!
"Which is?" I asked, my shoulders sagging as I was getting suddenly hurled into a new form of work from the looks of it.
Ruination Corruption! We had noticed a presence of it forming ever since individuals such as Viego and Kalista were 'invited' to the Program, but we thought it was... limited. Until the Champions left and this issue suddenly exploded to a full-blown crisis.
"Oh."
Oh, indeed! The situation at hand requires me to put you in charge of setting up defenses and protect the Nexuses as the Ruination creates corrupted NPCs to take over those.
"Wait, just defending? And with the Minions?" I asked quietly, turning to the short beings. "I know you are cool and all, but you are not exactly equipped for this sort of shit."
I saw several nods at that, but my question was rapidly answered by Halial.
Of course not! Such approach would be detrimental to our goals of survival! Which is why I took this opportunity to provide you with a Tactical Screen that will help you coordinate the Minions in building Towers to defend the Nexuses until the pollution runs out of vitality!
...
"A Tower Defence spin to the usual game?"
It was the best we had, trust me. Also, we have been left... short on admin resources as it all goes to keep watch over the Champions- but still! I believe in you!
"Oh, well, thank you-"
Even though this is my first day on the job. Finally out of Internhood and all of that.
"...Oh."
That was kind of a gut punch. Still, I was now in a Tower Defence Experience and the list I had of turrets was quite 'limited'. And by limited, I mean just one with three basic upgrades to increase the 'width per shot'. There was actually currency based on Mana that could be accumulated by building Hextech Batteries near the Nexuses.
Man, this 'game' was giving me some Forts vibes. Or just any sort of RTS game that involved tower-defencing to this extent. As I was busy building towers and preparing a few batteries, I saw the minions bolting left and right to get the jobs I was assigning them to be done.
So... would you like a tutorial?
I blinked distractedly, caught slightly off-guard by that question.
"Hm? Oh no, I am fine."
Are you... sure?
"Quite," I flatly remarked as I focused on the Tactical Screen.
I... Hmm...
"Yes?" I looked away from the screen, almost done with the preparations.
It's just- You know, I feel a bit useless right now.
"Trust me, I would love to be useless if it meant catching a break."
It couldn't be that bad-
"Your boss literally treated me as her slave janitor for six months," I angrily remarked, and the voice let out a quiet 'eep' noise.
I knew she was a... an unpleasant person, but to do that is... well?
I sighed. "Yes?"
Against the company's regulations.
...
"Is that so?"
Y-Yes. I mean, I served as her intern but Lady Whisperer is quite bossy and doesn't look too deeply into regulations. I just didn't expect her to be so dominating towards someone by also violating the code of conduct.
"Do tell me more about the code of conduct, Halial. This is actually important."
So, as I listened to more of what I could say and do to a certain bitchy whisperer, I also finished the deployment of the turrets. When the first two waves came up, all chit-chatting ended as I had to focus entirely on handling the defense.
To my surprise, the number of turrets that I had created that I originally thought excessive, proved to be actually just enough to handle this 'easy first battle'. The presence of two Ruined Elder Dragons also made Max-Upgraded Turrets a necessity as we advanced into Round Three and Four.
The fifth round was the final one, and I had gotten some close calls through that intense final battle but... we did it. The Minions were soon celebrating while I was dreading at how much was to be cleaned up once the battle deployment was cleared out.
A fair bit of the map was still wrecked after it had been shifted back to its usual configuration, but I was surprised when I was aided by the Minions and that those actually were around even after this battle. When inquired about this, Halial gave a straightforward answer.
Since it's quite possible that new issues may come up while the Champions are out, I think it's best to not turn the Minions dormant just yet. After all, they seem quite interested in enjoying a break themselves and... they want to be around you, Temporary Agent.
"It's Jim."
Understood, Temporary Agent Jim.
Goddammit.
As the clean up process wrapped up faster than I had expected through the help of the short entities, I still thought it fitting to ask one last thing before completely focusing on the holiday once more. And it all involved a video sent right to a certain...
Bitchy Boss.
It's been just a day after the Champions were given the news that Jim the Janitor had decided to remain in the Resting Grounds, and the mood had been quite somber.
Some of the champions took this situation tragically as Neeko preferred to keep by the forest most of the time and all the Yordles looked quite deflated over what was going on but... They were all surprised when they received a call to rally up once more.
Despite the moody day, everyone was confused and curious to see what was going on, and the Whisperer 'appeared' to be quite annoyed by something as it was easy to spot on her voice.
Champions, you were all called because I received urgent news from the Resting Grounds. My Intern- I mean, my substitute overseer has reported to me that a situation had almost destroyed the Resting Grounds-
Loud chatting ensued at this news. What were the chances that the Janitor got caught into this mess, got hurt or maybe killed? Paranoia was running high for a while but-
Luckily for us, the Janitor assisted in securing the defense of the Resting Ground and had... has sent a video message attached to this report? What is it now?!
The Champions all looked confused at this response, but they were all suddenly delighted to not only hear that the Janitor was well but they could also see him.
"So, people. I am well- as you can see, I am just wearing a different outfit but... that's for me to explain a bit later on this message. Let me start with the serious bit: so, someone of the Ruination brigade did a bit of a naughty with their pollution and it threatened to take over the Resting Grounds."
The aforementioned group was instantly singled out through the harsh glances from other individuals. Viego appeared perplexed, while Vex and Kalista appeared uneasy under that scrutiny.
"Right now, we don't know who did it. But once we do, and I learn of the name, I shall do something to the troublemaker's room. Maybe something like I did with Jinx's own room but... who knows."
"He fucking what?!" Jinx asked, but she didn't get much of a chance to 'ask' the hologram more as the topic moved along.
"Still, I managed to defend this place through the help of the Minions-" The camera now turned to show all the minions now wearing green uniforms and waving at them, causing a few Champions to smile at the little brave guys. "And my eyes from above, Halial. With whom I have found a kindred spirit in hating our boss."
That little-
"Also, if the 'Whisperer' lady says she'll do something to either of us, I was told that I have rights by work's law and I got screwed in that regard. I will have my legal revenge."
The whisperer went quiet at this much to the surprise of some and the snickering of others, but the message wasn't done just yet.
"So, now to the less important thing, since I have already cleaned up and the situation is clear, the minions and I have organized a football game and I will act as the referee. To make it short, we're having fun and I hope me not being there doesn't screw with the moods. I really need a break from you all, so I am sorry to say this, but don't try to come back earlier or I will throw you a hissy fit at best and do something with your rooms at worse. You have been warned and... ciao!"
The video ended there, and there was a lengthy silence after this one but-
"I AM STILL COMING BACK EARLIER TO CHECK MY ROOM, YOU BASTARD!" Jinx exclaimed angrily, almost promising this to no one but herself.
AN
Next time, Champions' POV on those that are going to 'bother' coming back earlier.
