A Bolt's New Day 2 (Post-RWBY, OC-MC)
Despite what she remembered last before falling unconscious, Snow Schnee woke up sluggishly and with a deep feeling of 'not wanting to get off the bed'. Even though the bed proved to be a living room's couch positioned right in front of a heat pump.
Tired silver eyes soon gave her the means to 'see' in what situation she was in, her initial worry of being somewhere bad as the Beowolfs had exploited her weakened aura and her malfunctioning Semblance to get a cheap shot at her was suddenly dispelled by the sight of BeBe sipping from a steamy cup while sitting beside her resting frame.
"...BeBe?"
Her feline ears twitched, and soon surprised yellow eyes were aimed at her. "Snow! You- Are you alright? Do you need something or-"
"Th-Throat," She croaked, the soreness burning within her neck spurring the faunus to reach from a small open box with some pills there.
A glass of water was also given so she took it without any concern since the feline seemed to trust these meds and... admittedly the water helped her a bit.
"W-Where?"
"Well, we were- were lost in the forest with the Beowolf, but Mr. Viola lives here and helped us fight off the grimm. Then he also fixed your wounds and got us here away from other scary things."
...Mr. Viola?
For some reason, the name felt familiar. But the first detail that Snow paid much attention to was the mention of her injury. Looking under her blanket, the girl could see the damage done to her dress, but no sign of the injury itself. It was indeed gone and it didn't feel sore at all.
"Where is he?"
"He went out to get groceries since he didn't have much around. But he should be back soon and... are you sure you are alright?"
Her slow nod told that not everything was 'alright', but it was mostly confusion. Where was 'here'? Where was this 'house' in Remnant? Because, if this was truly that simple, then their parents should be there. And if those weren't there, at least someone they were familiar with should have been.
But no, they were in this Mr. Viola's house, unsure of their overall premises and... and it was unbearable.
"Do you know... know where's our moms?"
The question was abrupt, but Snow was also aware her mind wasn't there just yet. BeBe's reaction said enough, but the girl morphed her uneasy look into one of awkwardness.
"It's complicated but-"
Before she could finish that answer, the faunus went stiff, cat ears twitching attentively as her gaze turned to the front door of the house. Snow did the same, her eyes narrowing as someone entered the house. A man with dark-blue hair, green eyes and a tired smile.
"I am back, BeBe and... Oh?" He stopped to look at the red-white-headed girl. "You are awake."
Snow realized she had been gawking, pulling herself together as she nodded at the familiar man's affirmation.
"Y-Yeah."
"Are you alright or-"
"She had a sore throat. I gave her one the pills you prepared," BeBe interjected, gaining a smile from the man.
"Glad to hear that, good job," He complimented, pausing momentarily as he went to put the few shopping bags he was carrying into a room Snow thought was the kitchen and then he moved back in the living room. "I am glad to see you are well, Snow. I understand if you have a few questions, so I will try to answer them accordingly."
She nodded, kind of calming down at the thought of having more information on what was going on.
"I will start with an introduction My name is Vincent Viola. And I am a friends to your mothers since-"
"You were in their team," Snow interjected as her mind recollected who Vincent was in the scheme of things, causing BeBe to look surprised at how suddenly her cousin answered that.
Truth be told, it was possible Auntie Yang and Blake had not told her much about their former team just yet. Snow's younger mom, Ruby, was instead very eager to mention him. Her 'fellow Cookie Fiend', her trusted 'friend that was a boy', and someone that also her mother Weiss found relatively pleasant and worthy of a smile and quite a lot of 'precise compliments'.
The memories held in some pictures Snow had seen hardly prepared her to how he appeared so similar and yet 'matured' compared to the past. The goofy smile replaced by a confident one. And his slimmer frame now wider and muscular.
"How do you know that?!" The cat-girl asked in pure surprise. "He had to show me the pictures and-"
"He's ViVi," Snow answered calmly, then tilting her head. "I thought you were gone from Remnant by the Gods' decision."
It seemed to click something with BeBe, but it was Vincent that spoke next.
"That's indeed the case. I was taken back to my home once Salem was beaten and... well, this is home."
That important detail slowly sank within the girl's mind. As someone that usually kept herself calm and collected, the idea that she had no way home, same for BeBe, felt quite unsettling. Even worse, she knew that this situation was her fault.
Lowering her gaze, she mumbled a single noise. "Oh."
This entire thing- them being hurled out of their world, away from their mothers' reach, was all because she trusted the wrong person. And now something happened when she 'tried to make things right'. Her Semblance just malfunctioned, causing the machine to overcharge and... send them there.
With some of the Grimm that had attacked the facility.
"The Beowolfs-!" Snow tried to sound alarmed, but Vincent's voice crushed the worry with two single words.
"All dead," He assured strongly. "I had gone through a quick patrol and checked the local news. None of the Grimm made it out from my little hunting session."
Relief washed across her, but it was a brief victory as the sourness remained. They were stuck here and, while it wasn't the worst case possible, that didn't stop the tears to come. After all, she was the one that messed up so badly.
"Hey now, what's wrong?" Vincent had sat down beside her, with BeBe appearing concerned as Snow silently cried over the matter. "You are both going to go home soon."
"H-How? You have been here for years-"
"Because I got there by Divine Means," The adult argued, a hand now resting on the girl's shoulder. "How were you brought here?"
"A machine- it malfunctioned because it got overcharged and-"
"Does that mean the same machine can be fixed and be used to replicate a safer version of what brought you here?"
"Y-Yes, but-" Snow tried to think of a negative aspect to this, but Vincent wasn't letting go of that pressure he was exerting on her.
"But you are afraid of what? That your mothers will not push through the need to bring you both back?"
"No, I-"
"Will Weiss hold back from using all funds to get this done as quickly as possible?" No. "Or will Ruby just sit idle and not worry so much about seeing all done right?" No.
He smiled as her answers were silent but still 'written' on her face. "Look at your cousin."
She did so, and she saw BeBe smiling but also looking nervous.
"She is definitely far from 'fine', but that doesn't mean she is stopping from hoping. What did you tell me about Yang?"
"Mom will just punch through dimensions and fish us out if that doesn't work. So we will be fine."
"Never lose hope," The man pressed some more. "Now... I have not finished setting up your beds in the guest room. How about you both help me prepare that before lunch?"
"Bunkbeds?"
"I am afraid we are not doing that considering how much damage that did to Beacon's walls," ViVi argued, causing BeBe to groan in defeat and Snow to smile a bit.
"I don't mind. But I get the place under the window."
"Smart pick," Vincent answered cryptically, causing the faunus to growl.
"I wanted that next."
"You shot your shoots, kiddo. Your cousin played it safe and she won."
The whining from BeBe didn't cease until after lunch. Getting off the couch was a hurdle, but the process of preparing their temporary room to be decent was a good distraction. Even more with the promise to go outside after today and get more stuff readied to fill up their wardrobes and anything else they needed.
Her blue dress was definitely in need of some fixing, but she had no substitute to it much to her chagrin. At least the shirts that Vincent found from his 'days at Beacon' could be fixed up to fit with her frame. They were still big for her size, but she liked a few from some of the older bands from Remnant.
The entire day went on like a rush, and even though she tried to not think too much about it, Snow couldn't help but be unable to sleep for a while due to her many worries tied to her parents. She knew that they could get them, hopefully, but the gnawing guilt of all of this being her fault still stung to her.
If only she had been more distrustful of that 'lost soul'.

Next few chapters will be a bit tame, but action will soon pick up as something else came out of that portal. Something that isn't a Grimm and... is still quite dangerous.
