"Mom!" Ollie yelled as he walked into the house, carrying Opal on his hip and she snuggled into his chest. A little snore came up from her and he rocked her back and forth, gently patting her back. She was absolutely exhausted and trusted him implicitly. Ollie was still the best brother ever to her.
"Give her here, Ollie," Tommy said as he stepped out of the shadows and Ollie spun around to look at him. Tommy saw the hatred flash through his eyes and he let out a sigh. He was glad that Kimberly wasn't able to see this, because he knew that she would not let him do what was necessary to try to bring Ollie back. She wouldn't want for him to truly confront Ollie with what he was doing, but he could not let Ollie hurt Opal. He didn't like any of his choices, but he knew that going after Ollie now was the best choice he could make. "You want to fight me? Fine. You leave your siblings out of this. You leave your ACTUAL mother out of this- you come after me."
"I'm not going to hurt them, Tommy. I'm going to keep them from you and Kimberly and all of the things that you have done to me," Ollie shot back as Tommy gathered his hair back into a ponytail and crossed his arms. He was going to let Ollie talk as much as possible, because he had no idea what Hayley had implanted in his mind. Everything that he said could give him an idea of what buttons to push and what might break him out of this the easiest. And he needed this to be easy, the feeling in the pit of his stomach told him that there might be more going on than just Hayley going after another of his children.
"What did we do to you?" Tommy asked and he watched Ollie freeze. He knew then that Hayley had not done a good enough job implanting false memories, which was difficult to do without the aid of some sort of evil powers. It further solidified that everything Hayley had done had been from a psychotic break, not from some evil being inhabiting her. "Think Ollie. We had to have done something."
"You…you…" Ollie trailed off as Opal woke up in his arms and looked between the two of them.
"Daddy?" Opal asked as she tried to reach for him and Ollie held her tight. "Ahyee! Let down! I want space!"
"Dad isn't safe Opie," Ollie tried to bargain as Opal slammed her fists into him and tried to push away from him. He gripped her arm and she let out a scream of pain. Tommy then slammed into him and pulled Opal out of his arms. He did not want Ollie to have any more memories that would leave him traumatized after he came back to himself. Hurting his baby sister would most definitely do that.
"Opal- run," Tommy whispered and Opal sprinted under the table as Tommy fought Ollie out of the kitchen. He had a sinking feeling that Hayley was not here and that this was a diversion, but he couldn't risk two of his children. He had to trust that the rangers at the hospital would stop anything Hayley tried to do there. "C'mon Ollie. Talk to me- what did I do?"
Tommy blocked Ollie's attempted blows and parried them, aiming to wear him down. Ollie was skilled, but he was his teacher and his father. He knew his weaknesses and what he would try to do against him. He didn't know if he could break him out of this the way that he had been broken out of evil, but he was willing to haul him back and strap him down until this wore off. That might be worth it in this case, but he hated the idea of it. He also knew that Kimberly would never forgive him if he did that to one of their children.
"What did I do?" Tommy yelled as he forced Ollie into the wall and held him still as the boy screamed and tried to throw him off. "Tell me!"
"Nothing! You did nothing!" Ollie admitted as he slumped into him and Tommy felt the relief rush through him. He pulled back from him and saw the damage that had been done and grimaced. Ollie's arms and legs were battered and he was breathing hard, but his eyes were finally clear. "Dad? Where's Opal? Where's Mom? Are they okay?"
"Opal?" Tommy called and he heard the pitter patter of small feet sprinting towards him and she wrapped her arms around his knees. "Is Hayley here?"
"I don't know," Ollie said as Tommy picked Opal up as she screamed in his arms. "Opie…I didn't…"
"Ahyee bad!" Opal yelled as Ollie gulped and Tommy saw the pain flash through him. "Ahyee hurt Opie."
"Opie- I'm so sorry," Ollie whispered as Tommy zoned out from the interaction between his two children. He listened for other footsteps or general motion in the house but didn't hear it. "Dad?"
"I need to check the house. Take this," Tommy said as he took off his communicator and Ollie stared at him. "You need to get back to Nana and your other siblings. Tell Jason where I am and tell him to double whatever is protecting your mom."
"You don't think…" Ollie trailed off as Tommy pressed the sequence and he disappeared. Tommy let out a shaky breath before he jogged through the house. He remembered the layout well and was not surprised as he went through room after room and found nothing. He ran down to the basement and was welcomed with more silence.
"Shit."
Tommy felt his body erupt in light and knew he was being teleported somewhere. He hoped that it was Jason, but he welcomed if Hayley was stupid enough to pull him to her right now. He hated that she had gone after Ollie, but it was a step too far to go after their youngest child.
"Just the house, Tommy," Jason welcomed him as Tommy glared at him for a moment. "Just wanted to hand this back to you."
"Thanks," Tommy said as he put his communicator back on and glanced around the room. "Ollie- can we lock you down for a bit?"
"Sure," Ollie said as Tommy locked eyes with Jason and he just nodded. "Dad, I never meant…"
"I know and I promise we'll have plenty of time to talk about it, but Hayley wasn't there. Did you double the guard?" Tommy asked as Jason shrugged. "Jason."
"They're on the way. Less talk more teleport," Jason pointed out and Tommy just shook his head before he grabbed his wrist and teleported into Kim's hospital room.
"Back off," Tommy said as he saw Hayley hovering over Kimberly and she froze with the empty syringe in her hand and he saw that Adam was unconscious on the floor.
"Tommy," Hayley whispered as the needles clattered to the floor and she started towards him. Tommy moved between Kim and Hayley, but noticed that Hayley suddenly didn't seem even remotely interested in Kimberly. "You came."
Tommy realized at that moment how deep Hayley was in her insanity. He had thought over the years that she may have just had a momentary slip, but this was years and years worth of psychosis. She was absorbed with taking him in and he kept an eye out for any surprise weapon. That didn't come as she moved closer to him and he heard the sound of feet thundering down the hallway. Apparently Adam had managed to raise an alarm with security before Hayley got there.
"You've changed so much. Why did you grow out your hair and beard? You should never hide that face," Hayley said as she caressed Tommy's cheek and he grabbed her wrist, pushing her away from him. "Don't you miss it too?"
"No," Tommy said as the door flew open and security stared between the two of them. "You're not going to be able to fight all of us."
"Why would you fight me? You love me," Hayley said as Tommy saw security motioning him back and he dropped her hand as he took a step back and she tried to move with him. "You love me!"
"You need help," Tommy whispered as security moved and grabbed her. He heard something clatter to the ground and saw the knife she had held. He closed his eyes as medical personnel filtered into the room to check on Kimberly and they called another team to treat Adam.
"I still have Ollie! I will make you mine!" Hayley yelled as she fought against security and Tommy just shook his head. She screamed as she realized what that head shake meant. She had lost her leverage over them and hadn't achieved her goal of killing Kimberly.
"Are you okay?" Billy asked as he peeked in and Tommy gave him a stiff nod. "Adam slowed her down just enough, he's got a pretty nasty goose egg, but is otherwise fine."
"Fuck," Tommy muttered as he glanced back at Kim and realized she hadn't woken up. "Did she have any other needles?"
"Security is checking and a lab tech is coming to draw additional labs to figure out what she may have injected her with. We're also testing the syringes she injected Adam with to determine the compound and we'll check for that as well," Billy explained as Tommy let out a groan. "You did the right thing."
"It doesn't feel like the right thing. She's going to escape and…I can't talk about this right now," Tommy stated as the techs came in and started drawing labs. Kim's eyes blinked open and Tommy felt a bit of relief run through him. Adam was still out, which meant that Hayley hadn't been able to do what she had come here for.
"Did something happen?" Kim asked and Tommy shook his head. She could hate him for this lie later, but right now he was so glad that she didn't know the danger that had come for their family again.
