Chapter 19: Mastermind
And all the stars aligned
Brittany and Santana wanted to get married as soon as possible, and Brittany's mom was almost certain she'd found the perfect place. Not only was it in Indiana, where gay marriage legal unlike the laws in Ohio, but it was the barn Brittany had been born in.
Oddly enough, out of everyone, Santana was the first to agree to the location, which was enough to get Brittany on board. Santana's mom agreed too, and her and Artie were sure they could make it work.
Even more odd was that Brittany was way more nervous than Santana about everything. Her anxiety was going crazy, and nothing Kurt said could calm her down. There was so much to be done in such a short amount of time. She was taking all the possibilities of bad luck extremely seriously too, much to Santana's dismay. She should've known Brittany would take that kind of stuff seriously, but it was all rooted in patriarchal standards. She drew the line at chicken slaughter and instead proposed Brittany figure out the mathematical solution to the seating chart. Which led to yet another disagreement- Sue's invitation or lack thereof to their wedding. Yes, maybe she played a small role in how they met, but she was the reason Santana had been outed. And it was too much for her to handle.
By the time they were getting dressed, Brittany was hunting for good luck in every way she could. But it wasn't adorable anymore and Santana had enough. She explained to Brittany why all the bad luck she was spouting was ridiculous. Not a single superstition could mess up their wedding. They were soulmates.
Then again, maybe Britt was right, because Sue had shown up after being explicitly told she wasn't invited. However, her Abuela being there thanks to Sue was enough to convince her to let her stay.
There was just one more thing that had to fall into place.
And the touch of a hand lit the fuse
Brittany had one single wish. She wanted Kurt and Blaine to get married too. Ever since she saw them together in high school, she'd looked up to their relationship. It gave her hope for herself and Santana. It turned out Sue was equally as obsessed with Klaine as Brittany and so they conspired to get them back together. With an elevator trap and some perfect planning, they had succeeded almost entirely. The last step was having them get married too. And if it was Brittany's only wish, Santana would make it happen. No matter how crazy and illogical the wish, Santana would make it happen. Because Brittany deserved to believe in magic and everlasting love and unicorns and rainbows and talking cats. all because Brittany believed in her. So she'd endorse a shared wedding with the gays, as much as just a few short years ago she would've abhorently opposed the same idea, she'd changed. And a double gay wedding was something she was completely agreeing to. It all came down to the boys though. And with a little convincing, they would have it.
And now you're mine
Kurt and Brittany walked down the aisle followed shortly by Santana and Blaine as Mercedes and Artie sang. The faces of shock were priceless, though Santana did wish a few more were for how awesome she looked. Still, it was worth it. She'd made Brittany's dream come true.
Burt began the ceremony as Artie and Mercedes finished they're song.
"I didn't know how lucky [I was to marry the love of my life, until I had to drive across the state line to officiate the weddings of these loving couples."
It was true. It had only been a few years that any states had legalized gay marriage. Santana and Brittany were lucky they'd only had to go over one state line.
And then, it was time for the vows.
"I've been bullied, outed and misunderstood" Santana began, and concluded with "A thousand times yes. I am a work in progress."
"The world seemed so scary and confusing. It was just too fast. It made me feel dumb just because my brain worked differently." Brittany began. She ended with "I would've suffered it all, just for the tiny chance to be standing up here marrying you. I am a work in progress"
As all four finished their vows there was echo of "I do"s, and they all exchanged rings.
"I now pronounce you wife and wife. And husband and husband. You may kiss one another." Burt said. And with that, they were officially married.
Yeah all you did was smile
They spent the rest of the evening dancing and enjoying the company of all their friends and family. They were together forever. Nothing could make Santana happier than spending the rest of her life with Brittany.
It was all capped off with Sue getting them a month long honey moon. And while their honeymoon may only be a month long, Santana would spend the rest of her life loving Brittany. Because finally, after years of pain and suffering and break ups and hook ups they were together forever. it had all been part of her master plan. And every step had been worth it, because Brittany was happy. And knew that Santana had done everything she'd ever done, wrong or right, in pursuit of being the forever OTP they were.
'Cause I'm a mastermind.
