Deneva part 2

Jamie felt like she could sleep for a week. The Enterprise and its crew were long overdue shore break. Tonight had been relaxing until Watson decided to get all handsy on her. Sure they had a brief - one night - in the past but that did not mean it was going to be repeated. She would have stayed longer and shared more of the stories her crew had been on the edge of their seats to hear.

But she could not stay a second longer within Vincente's presence with his hand pressed against her back and inching lower with every second. She could have torn him out - she had done so to many others who had tried to flirt with her and their attention was unwanted. In all honesty, she had to leave before she decided to teach him a lesson with her fist. Better that she sends her security instead. Pike would be proud. She makes her way to her ready room and taps her com badge, "Lieutenant Commander Giotto."

"Yes, Captain."

"Make sure Governor Watson is escorted off my ship within the hour. I don't care what excuse he gives you, I want him off so we can get out of here so we can leave promptly without a fuss in the morning."

"Yes Captain, I'll make sure it happens."

Good. She could relax now.

"I'm not sure what the governor has done to warrant such measurement to be taken."

Her heart stopped.

If there was anyone that she wanted to have more of a connection with it was the person that the voice belonged to.

She had never known herself to fall asleep so easily as she did within his presence. She felt like a love-sick fool. It was so heart-whelming waking up every time within her quarters knowing Spock had been the one to place her there. Spock had pulled the cover over her. Spock had - well Jamie hoped cared for her as more than comrades. Then she remembered that Spock was a logical being and the most logical place for her to get the decent amount of rest her body required would be where her bed was.

"He got on my nerves," Jamie responded, and she wanted him off before he could tell a certain story The one surrounding her Captaincy, or try it on with any more of her female officers. She nodded her head in the direction of where she was heading, "Walk with me I have reports to sign off and send back to Starfleet."

"The members of the crew were fully engaged with the stories of your time before becoming Captain."

"Oh there's loads, all embarrassing as the next I assure you. All as illogical as the next."

"Yet it was the path that made you Captain."

"Yeah, it did." Jamie said thoughtfully, as they entered her ready room, "I did so much, busted my gut, and climbed through the ranks. Pike enlisted me. Dared me to do better than my dad -"

"George Kirk."

Jamie nodded, "He was Captain of the ship for approximately twelve minutes, saving eight hundred lives. I thought Pike wanted me to do something as daring as my father. It's why I did all the crazy things. I had a thirst to prove myself to him, that I could be and do what he had dared me to do."

"You did so."

Jamie shook her head. "It's a privilege. You don't do it for the fame. I learned that the hard way Spock. What truly makes a great captain because it's not when you swear the oath."

"That is not what the intentions were behind my comment Captain. Know that your crew listened so intently because they wanted to know you better. They think highly of you like I do. You wanted to prove yourself to Admiral Pike and you did so. Does it matter how you discovered the knowledge you hold now?"

Yes because it came with a great cost. She had been so lucky - because Pike had passed her over so many times, due to him stating she was not ready, that she was overlooked; seen as not a threat, the reason that she got to live. Her fate would have lay with the other senior members of the crew that day otherwise.

"Whatever happened to make you learn that particular knowledge Captain needed to happen or you would not be the person you are today. You would not be the Captain you are today. To think otherwise is illogical."

A hand tucked a stray piece of her hair away, shaking her out of her thoughts.

Spock's gaze softens, his Vulcan control wavering for a moment. He steps closer to her, the proximity intensifying the tension between them.

"Jamie, as a Vulcan, I am trained to suppress my emotions. However, with you, I find it increasingly... challenging."

Jamie's heart races, her eyes locked onto his. She reaches out, her fingers brushing his hand. The touch sends a shiver through both of them. Spock's resolve falters. He lifts his hand to her face, his fingers gently tracing the line of her jaw. Their faces are inches apart, the air thick with anticipation. Jamie closes her eyes, leaning into his touch. The warmth of his hand against her skin is both comforting and electrifying. Spock's face moves closer to hers, their breaths mingling. The moment is electric, the universe outside the window forgotten. Just as their lips are about to meet -

"T'hy-"

"Was it really necessary to kick Watson off the ship so early?"

They jump apart, the spell broken but the connection still strong. Spock takes a step back, his Vulcan composure returning. Jamie made a mental note to herself, that she needed to adjust who could wander into her ready room without the need for her authorisation. She was going to kill Bones.

"Nope but it makes me feel better," Jamie responded through gritted teeth, her attention on Bones who was looking awkward and his gaze firmly anywhere but at them.
