The next morning, after everyone wakes up and has breakfast, they talk about what they were going to do next.
"Should we go back to the Digging Duo and see what they dig up?" asked Lana.
"I don't see why not." said Lincoln. "Maybe they'll dig up some more evolution stones we can use."
"Let's go see." said Ronnie Anne. The group put their tents and other camping supplies into their backpacks, they head back to where the Digging Duo was.
"Hey, guys." said Clyde. "How do you think Hop did against that Bede jerk yesterday?"
"I'm sure he did just fine." said Lincoln.
"I wouldn't be too sure about that." said a familiar voice they didn't feel like hearing, making them look to see Bede walking towards.
"Oh, it's you." said Lola with a frown.
"You heading to Hammerlocke?" asked Sam.
"Of course." said Bede. "And don't count on Hop joining you anytime soon."
"What do you mean?" asked Lucy from behind Bede, startling him.
"Anyway, I dominated him in our battle yesterday badly; so, I doubt he's going to be continuing the Gym Challenge." said Bede.
"I wouldn't count Hop out, Bede." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, he's not the kind of guy who'd just give up like that." said Clyde.
"Well, as much as I like to stay and chat with all of you, I have a Gym Challenge to do." said Bede and he walks away.
"What a stinker." said Lola.
"And not the good kind." said Lana.
"I hope Hop's okay." said Leni.
"I'm sure he'll be fine." said Lincoln. As the group continued walking, Sam sees a Pokemon Den with a pink beam of light coming out of it.
"Hey; there could be something in that den there." said Sam, pointing at the Pokemon Den. "I'm gonna check it out."
"Okay; we'll wait here." said Luna. Sam runs to the Pokemon Den; she takes out her Rotom Phone and uses it to absorb the watts the den had.
"Three hundred watts collected and stored." said Sam's Rotom Phone. She jumps into the den and jumps inside; once inside, she saw a Dynamaxed Onix. Sam points the Rotom Phone at the Onix and look up Onix's information.
"This looks like a rockin' Pokemon; I'll catch it." said Sam. She puts her Rotom Phone away and pulls out a pokeball. "Gastrodon, go!" She throws Gastrondon's pokeball and releases him; she then returns Gastrodon to his pokeball, then enlarges it with her Dynamax Band. She throws it and releases Gastrodon, now Dynamaxed. "Dynamaxing's so cool. Okay, Gastrodon, use Max Geyser!" Gastrodon unleashes a geyser of water from his mouth, and it hits Onix, dealing super effective damage to it. It begins to rain in the den. The Onix lets out a roar; a giant slab of stone rises up from the ground and it falls onto Gastrodon, damaging him. The rain disappears and a sandstorm appears; sand hits Gastrodon and damages him.
"Max Geyser one more time!" said Sam. Gastrodon fires another water geyser from his mouth, and it hits Onix, dealing super effective damage; the energy surrounding Onix explodes, and it begins stumbling around. Sam takes out an empty pokeball and uses her Dynamax Band to enlarge it; she throws it at Onix and hits it. Onix gets sucked into the pokeball and it falls to the ground; it moves around until it returns to its regular size and clicks. "Yeah! Onix is mine!" Onix's pokeball vanishes and is transported to storage. Sam climbs out of the den; she sees two Star Pieces, several berries and a Technical Record for a move called High Horsepower. She picks them up and puts them in her backpack.
"So, how did it go, Sam?" asked Luna as she and the rest of the group walk over to Sam.
"Awesome. I caught an Onix." replied Sam. She takes out her Rotom Phone to look up Onix's information. "This says my Onix is a girl, she knows Tackle, Harden, Bind, Rock Throw, Smack Down, Rock Polish, Dragon Breath, Curse, Rock Slide, and Screech; she has the Rock Head ability which prevents her from receiving recoil damage from her own moves."
With Lola, she was training up her Sinistea for her upcoming gym battle; it soon learned Giga Drain.
A short while later, the group meet up with the Digging Duo, and give them some of their watts to dig up stuff; they dug up a couple of Ice Stones, a Leaf Stone, some more Star Pieces, a Metal Coat, A Fossilized Dino, A Fossilized Bird, and a couple bags of Stardust.
"What should we do with this stuff?" asked Luna.
"We can sell the Star Pieces and Stardust; I can use one of the Ice Stones on my Alolan Sandshrew." said Lincoln. "And I heard that a Metal Coat can evolve an Onix into a Steelix."
"Can I have the Metal Coat for my Onix?" asked Sam.
"Sure." said Lincoln as she hands it to Sam.
"I can use the other Ice Stone on my Eevee." said Leni.
"We can save the fossils for that scientist." said Clyde.
Lincoln uses his Rotom Phone to swap his Alcremie, much to the displeasure of the twins, for his Alolan Sandshrew.
"I'll train him up soon and then use the Ice Stone later on." said Lincoln.
"Can I evolve my Eevee?" asked Leni.
"Sure, Leni." replied Lincoln. He gives Leni the other Ice Stone; she uses her Rotom Phone to trade her Dedenne for her Eevee she then tosses Eevee's pokeball and releases her. Leni touches Eevee with the Ice Stone and she begins to evolve; Eevee begins to grow. When the glowing stopped, Eevee was now light blue with two long, teal flaps with dark blue tips hanging from her head; the tip of her tail and her feet were also dark blue. Leni points her Rotom Phone at her newly evolved Eevee.
"Glaceon, the Fresh Snow Pokemon and the evolved form of Eevee. The coldness emanating from Glaceon causes powdery snow to form, making it quite a popular Pokémon at ski resorts." said Leni's Rotom Phone.
"Wow, Glaceon; you look so pretty." said Leni. "According to this, you learned Icy Wind when you evolved, and you now have the Snow Cloak ability which increases your evasion during a snowstorm."
"Are you going to evolve your Alolan Sandshrew, Lincoln?" asked Clyde.
"Maybe I'll wait a bit and train him up some more." said Lincoln as he puts the second Ice Stone into his backpack.
"Okay, buddy." said Clyde.
"Should we get going to Hammerlocke?" asked Ronnie Anne.
"Sure, let's go." said Lincoln. The group heads back through the Stony Wilderness and head up a large rocky hill to the front gate of Hammerlocke that looked like the head of a dragon with the door leading inside in its mouth; in front of it was a Pokemon League staff member.
"Hello, everyone." said the staff member.
"Hi, we're doing the Gym Challenge." said Lincoln.
"Do you have the Grass, Water, and Fire Badges?" asked the staff member.
"We sure do." said Lana as she and everyone else show the staff member the badges that they all won so far.
"Everything looks to be in order." said the staff member after checking out everyone's badges. "You may all enter Hammerlocke." He then opens the front gate, and the group walks inside. Once they do, they look around at the grand cityscape that looked like a castle town.
"It's so magnificent!" said Lola. "I can imagine living in the large castle, surrounded by servants catering to my every whim while I sit on a throne, wearing the best crown in the world."
"I believe that." said Lincoln. As they look towards the gate into a large castle, they see Chairman Rose, Oleana, and Bede, standing on the path leading to it, talking to each other.
"Mr. Chairman!" Bede says to Chairman Rose. "I've been collecting Wishing Stars and Gym Badges as fast as I can!"
"Good work, Bede." said Oleana "I'm glad you haven't forgotten that it was the chairman who endorsed you."
"If I gather enough Wishing Stars, that'll help solve the problem that's been bothering you, right, Mr. Chairman?" asked Bede.
"Oh, it's not just about me." said Chairman Rose. "It's for the future of the whole Galar region. And we'll need more than just Wishing Stars; we need a powerful Pokemon Trainer, too; someone like the champion."
"With all due respect, sir, I was able to show Hop, one of the champion-endorsed Trainers, just how outclassed he was." said Bede. Lincoln clenches his fist with anger at that statement. "I'm sure I'll be able to defeat the Champion. No, I WILL defeat the Champion!"
"That's the spirit! It takes healthy competition to really keep the Gym Challenge energized!" said Chairman Rose.
"Challenger Bede, there is something I wish to discuss with you." said Oleana. "Do you have a moment?" She and Bede then start walking towards the castle gate, leaving Chairman Rose, who notices Lincoln's group standing nearby.
"I hope you and your group were listening, Lincoln." said Chairman Rose. "As you know, Wishing Stars are those mysterious stones that are even attached to your Dynamax Bands. There's more to Wishing Stars than just making Pokemon into giants, though! They hold far more energy than that!"
Chairman Rose then has the group follow him inside and explains to them how the Galar region gets its energy. Oleana then goes up to him and whispers something into his ear, making him excuse himself, but not before suggesting to the group that they head for the vault in the city, catching Lola's interest, then tells them how to get to it.
The group exits the castle and start walking in the direction that Chairman Rose told them. As they walk down the stone road, they spot Leon up ahead.
"Hey, Leon!" said Lincoln.
"Hi, everyone." said Leon. "It seems you're all doing well collecting gym badges."
"Totes." replied Leni. A concerned look appeared on Leon's face.
"Did something happen with Hop?" asked Leon. "He was acting really odd when I ran into him; he took one look at me and immediately he was like 'I'm sorry, Leon'."
"You see, he lost a Pokemon battle with that Bede jerk." replied Lincoln.
"When you lose, you feel down in the dumps." said Leon. "But then there's nowhere left to go but back up; you've got to think on why you lost, though."
"Sounds like good advice." said Clyde.
"You know, that brother of mine, he might yet become a surprisingly great trainer." said Leon.
"I think so, too." said Lincoln. Leon then looks at a watch he was wearing.
"Blast, and look at the time; Nearly forgot my meeting with the chairman." said Leon. "That Oleana really lets me hear it when I'm late."
"Whoa; better not keep them waiting." said Lana.
"I hope I remember which way to go." said Leon. "By the way, you should all say hello to Raihan while you're here."
"The Hammerlocke Gym Leader?" asked Lucy from behind Leon, startling him.
"Yes; he's my greatest rival I've got and the final hurdle you'll have to face in the Gym Challenge." said Leon. "He should still be around the vault; if you hurry." He point down a western path. "It's down that way, before Route 6."
"Thanks, Leon." said Lincoln. Leon then turns and walks away.
"So, what now?" asked Lana.
"Let's go to the vault like Chairman Rose suggested." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, maybe there'll be treasures like jewelry and crowns." said Lola.
The group then start walking over to the vault. What sort of treasures will they find there?
