Ruby
"That's all?" Cranberry asked, when he saw Ruby's catch. "There wasn't much prey running around today," she answered, dipping her head. "Thunder," she heard Cranberry mumble. Do we even know it's Thunder? Yes. Cherry found their fur yesterday. She sighed, and looked up at Cranberry. He was staring at her, as though he had asked something and she had yet to respond. "Sorry, did you ask me something?" Ruby asked, dipping her head. "I asked you if you saw anything weird in the forest today," Cranberry said stiffly. "I don't think so," Ruby wracked her brain, trying to remember if she had seen anything. "Remember to report to me if you do see anything,' Cranberry flicked his tail slightly, and walked away. Ruby yawned, realizing how tired she was. She padded to her den and curled up, her tail resting on top of her nose. She fell asleep, breathing calmly.
Ruby woke up with a start. How long had she been asleep? Not long. She tried to reassure herself. But as she looked up at the sun, she could tell it was midday already. How did I sleep for this long? She pondered. Stretching, she got up and looked at the food pile. There was nothing left. That's what I get if I don't wake up at the correct time. A wave of guilt splashed over her. I probably would have helped with the food problem if I would have gone hunting. She sighed, and got up, going to hunt for some prey. Just as Ruby started to walk away into the woods, a bark filled the air. Cranberry! A meeting! She raced over to him, panting hard. As Ruby met eyes with him, she saw something in his face that she had never seen before. He's scared. Ruby felt fear pound down on her. Though she didn't know what had happened, she knew it was something bad. Very bad. Cranberry didn't wait for every fox to gather before he started. "Today, the morning hunting group found something," he started. "It was a body. A fox." He paused, as though he didn't want to go on. "After some careful examination, we figured out who had been killed in our very own territory. It was a Cyclone fox." His eyes seemed sad as he went on. "It was Cherry," he finished. Cherry? Ruby felt like her heart had been stabbed with a knife. Cherry was her sister. Though they had never really been close, it still felt sad to know that someone she loved had been killed. "We found some slashes through-out her body. We think a fox killed her. But the weird thing is, we didn't smell Thunder, only Cyclone." He paused, giving the crowd accusing glances. "So we think that someone from Cyclone killed her." All the foxes gasped, including Ruby. No one would kill Cherry right? She had always been a loyal fox! Ruby scanned the crowd. Everyone seemed as shocked and surprised as she did. Did they have a murderer in their leash? "Meeting dismissed. I will start interrogating foxes soon" Cranberry walked away. He didn't even bother to conceal his suspiciousness. Ruby padded into her den. I wonder what will happen to us now. We are weak, insecure, and now apparently have a murderer in our camp. Things don't seem good for us…
