Lincoln vs Bede
The next morning, after the group ate breakfast, the group packed up their gear.
"Well, gang, next stop, Motostoke Stadium." said Lincoln.
"What type of Pokemon does Kabu use again?" asked Leni.
"He uses fire types." said Lincoln.
"Maybe we should help Sam find some Pokemon that have an advantage over them." said Luna.
"Don't the Pokemon I have right now have an advantage?" asked Sam.
"Your Meowstic and Toxel have neither an advantage or disadvantage over fire types." replied Lincoln.
"Don't worry, Sam; we'll help you out." said Luna, putting a hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Thanks, Lunes." said Sam and kisses her on the cheek, making Luna smile. A thought came in Lincoln's mind.
"Hey, guys; let's go to the Incense Shop real quick." said Lincoln.
"How come?" asked Lola.
"I'll explain when we get there." said Lincoln. The others followed Lincoln to the Incense Store.
"So, why did you want to come back here, Lincoln?" asked Clyde. Lincoln points to a purple incense burner.
"Sam; this Odd Incense here can boost the power of the psychic type attacks of the Pokemon holding it." said Lincoln.
"It would be a big help for your Meowstic, Sam." said Lola.
"But I don't have any money." said Sam. Luna takes some pokedollars.
"Don't worry, Sam; I'll buy this for you." said Luna.
"Wow, thanks, Luna." said Sam. Luna buys the Odd Incense for Sam and gives it to her.
"Maybe in case Sam finds a water Pokemon, we should buy a Wave or Sea Incense for Sam to give to it." said Ronnie Anne.
"Rockin' idea." said Luna. "If I am going to take on Kabu, I should exchange one of the Pokemon on me for my Poliwag, and maybe buy a Wave Incense for him." Luna buys two Wave Incenses and gives one to Sam; she then uses her Rotom Phone to exchange her Pincurchin for her Poliwag. Afterward, she lets Poliwag out of his pokeball and gives him the Wave Incense. "Should probably train my Poliwag for the gym battle."
"Yeah." said Lana. Sam lets Meowstic out of her pokeball and gives her the Odd Incense. After Luna and Sam return their Pokemon to their pokeballs, it was time for the gang to say goodbye to Hulbury. The group began walking east of Hulbury until they reached Galar Mine No. 2.
Inside the mine, the group are walking through, looking around. As they did, they see a turquoise, sea slug-like Pokemon with a green underside crawling around.
"What's that?" asked Sam. She takes her Rotom Phone out of her pocket and points it at the Pokemon.
"Shellos, the Sea Slug Pokemon. Its appearance changes depending on the environment. One theory suggests that living in cold seas causes Shellos to take on this form." said the Rotom Phone.
"Sam; this says Shellos is a water type." said Luna who was looking at Sam's Rotom Phone.
"Awesome; I'm totally going to capture it." said Sam.
"Use Toxel; electric type Pokemon have an advantage over water types." said Lincoln.
"You got it, Linc." said Sam as she takes out Toxel's pokeball. "Toxel, let's roll!" She tosses Toxel's pokeball and releases her. "Okay, Toxel, use Nuzzle!" Toxel toddles over to Shellos while rubbing her cheeks, making electricity form on them, and rubs his cheek against it, dealing super effective damage to it. Shellos begins twitching.
"Looks like Shellos is paralyzed." said Clyde. Shellos fights through its paralysis, and it sprays a stream of mud out of its mouth, and it hits Toxel, dealing super effective damage.
"Oh man, I think that was Mud Slap!" said Lana.
"Is that bad?" asked Sam.
"Mud Slap's a ground type move; electric type and poison type Pokemon are weak against them." said Lincoln.
"It also lowers a Pokemon's accuracy, making it a little difficult for a Pokemon to hit its target." said Lana.
"Toxel, try using Acid!" said Sam. Toxel sprays a purple stream of liquid out of her mouth and was able to hit Shellos, hurting it and weakening its defense. Shellos opens its mouth, but its paralysis stops it from doing anything else. "Flail!" Toxel toddles at Shellos and swings her arms around, hitting Shellos and knocking it to the ground. It struggles to get up.
"I think you can catch it now, Sam." said Luna.
"You got it." said Sam. She takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Shellos, hitting it and sucking it in. It wiggled around a few times before it clicks, indicating Shellos capture.
"You did it, Sam!" said Luna. Sam walks to Shellos pokeball and picks it up.
"Radical; I caught a Shellos!" said Sam. She takes out her Rotom Phone to look up Shellos' information. "Okay, my Shellos is a dude, he knows Water Gun, Mud-Slap, Harden, Recover, Water Pulse, and Ancient Power; he has the Sticky Hold ability which prevents an item he's holding from being taken." She reaches into her backpack and pulls out the Wave Incense Luna bought for her. "That means nothing will be able to take this Wave Incense from him." She tosses Shellos pokeball and releases him. Lincoln takes a Super Potion and a Cheri Berry out of his backpack.
"Here you go, Sam." said Lincoln, holding out the Super Potion and Cheri Berry.
"What are these?" asked Sam.
"That spray is a Super Potion that will restore Shellos to full health when sprayed with it, and that Cheri Berry will cure him of his paralysis." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, dude." said Sam. She feeds Shellos the Cheri Berry and sprays Shellos with the Super Potion, fully restoring him. "Sorry Toxel was rough with you, Shellos; I hope things will be cool between us." Shellos looks at Sam and smiles, making her smile right back. She also gives Shellos the Wave Incense.
"Let's keep going, guys." said Lincoln. The group continues to walk through the mine and soon came across a familiar, unpleasant face.
"Oh no, it's Bede." said Lola, getting Bede's attention.
"What are you doing here?" asked Bede.
"Who's this?" asked Sam.
"This is Bede." said Luna. "Another Gym Challenger, and he isn't that cool of a person."
"Yeah, he has very poor manners." said Lola.
"Yeah, he stinks; and not in a good way." said Lana. Lincoln then walks over to Bede.
"To answer your question, we're just heading back to Motostoke to challenge Kabu and we're taking this path to get there." said Lincoln.
"I see." said Bede. "And what makes you certain that any of you would stand a chance?"
"We've done pretty good so far, and we've gotten a bit stronger." said Lincoln.
"Oh really?" replied Bede. "Then how about a battle to show you how insignificant your power is compared to mine?"
"Last I recall, you lost to my little sister, Lucy, back in Galar Mine #1." said Lincoln, making Bede look away with a frown.
"She just got lucky." said Bede.
"What was that?" said Lucy from behind Bede, scaring him.
"And sure, I'll have a battle with you." said Lincoln. Bede smirks in response.
"Accepting my challenge is the biggest mistake in Galar history." said Bede.
"I figure that you challenging me would be the biggest mistake in Galar history." replied Lincoln. Bede growls in response.
"We'll see about that." said Bede as he and Lincoln walk apart to give them some battle room while everyone else watches from behind Lincoln.
"Show this mean boy how tough you are, Linky." said Leni. Lincoln looks at Leni and nods in response.
"How many Pokemon are we each using?" asked Lincoln.
"We'll use four each." said Bede.
"Sounds good to me." said Lincoln.
"Let's just get this battle over with. I don't want to waste more of my time than I already have." said Bede.
"Then I'll do you a favor and beat you quickly." said Lincoln as he and Bede each take out a pokeball. Bede throws his, releasing his Solosis; Lincoln throws his, releasing his Lucario (or so Bede thinks.)
"Okay, Solosis, use Psybeam!" said Bede. Solosis fires off a beam of psychic energy at Lucario and it hits him; but to Bede's shock, it didn't seem to affect him at all. "What's going on? Lucario may be part steel, but it's also part fighting; that move should've had some effect on it."
"You mean like this? Use Knock Off!" said Lincoln. Lucario runs over to Solosis and smacks it with the back of his fist, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"I didn't know that Lucario could learn Knock Off!" said Bede. He returns Solosis to its pokeball, puts it away, then pulls out another pokeball. He throws it, releasing his Gothita. "I must've just missed Lucario with that last attack and not notice, but let's see you handle this. Gothita, use Psychock!" Gothita jumps into the air and holds out its arms, gathering psychic energies, then fires them at Lucario, completely covering his entire body. When it cleared, Bede was surprised to see Lucario looked unharmed.
"Use Night Slash!" said Lincoln. Lucario's wrist spikes extend and become covered with dark energy as he runs at Gothita and slashes Gothita with them, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"Lucario knows Night Slash too?!" asked Bede. "That can't be! He can't learn Night Slash! The only Pokemon I know that can learn that move is..." He suddenly figured out why Solosis's Psybeam and Gothita's Psyshock didn't seem to work at all. "Wait a minute! That's not a Lucario!"
"I never said it was." said Lincoln. He looks over at 'Lucario', who's looking back at him, and nods. Lucario starts glowing dark light and turns into Zoroark.
"A Zoroark!" said Bede.
"Yeah, Zoroark's Illusion ability is quite sneaky." said Lincoln.
"That's why I like it, boss!" said Zoroark.
"You can just call me Lincoln." said Lincoln.
"Okay, Lincoln." said Zoroark.
"How would you know what it's saying?" asked Bede. Lincoln turns his head and points to the PokeTranslator in one of his ears.
"These PokeTranslators that Professor Magnolia invented allow me to understand what Pokemon are saying." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, we got them too." said Lana as she, her sisters, Ronnie Anne, and Clyde point them out to Bede.
"I don't have those." said Sam.
"When we get the chance, we'll stop by Professor Magnolia's place and grab you some." said Luna.
"Thanks, Luna." said Sam.
"But I do believe we're still in the middle of a battle right now." said Lincoln. Bede growls as he returns his Gothita to its pokeball.
"At least I know why my last two moves didn't work." said Bede as he puts Gothita's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Fortunately, this Pokemon has some moves that can do some damage to it." He throws the pokeball, releasing a small, unicornlike Pokemon with a black horn with a pink ring circling around it; it also has very light pink fur, and a light violet and blue mane and tail, along with light violet rings of fur around its ankles.
"IT'S SO CUTE!" said Lola. What everyone else didn't notice was that Lucy was also looking at the Pokemon with a big smile on her face. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Ponyta, the Fire Horse Pokemon. This Pokémon will look into your eyes and read the contents of your heart. If it finds evil there, it promptly hides away." said the Rotom Phone.
"I really don't want to hurt it, but I don't really have a choice." said Lincoln. "I'll try to go easy on it."
"Don't be soft; it just shows how weak you are." said Bede. "Ponyta, use Fairy Wind!" Ponyta releases a gust of pink wind from its body which hits Zoroark, doing super effective damage.
"Zoroark, use Hone Claws!" said Lincoln. Zoroark starts sharpening his claws against each other, increasing his attack power and accuracy.
"Ponyta, use Fairy Wind again!" said Bede. Ponyta hits Zoroark with another blast of Fairy Wind, doing more super effective damage to him.
"Use Fury Swipes!" said Lincoln. Zoroark runs at Ponyta and slashes it repeatedly with his claws, doing enough damage to knock it out. "Sorry, Ponyta. After this battle, I'll give Bede some potions for you."
"Don't do my Pokemon any favors." said Bede as he returns Ponyta to its pokeball.
"Hey; bro is just being nice." said Luna.
"You should appreciate the fact that Linky's showing your Pokemon some compassion." said Lola.
"Whatever." said Bede as he puts Ponyta's pokeball away and pulls out his last one. He throws it, releasing his Hatenna. "Hatenna, use Disarming Voice!" Hatenna releases a soothing soundwave from its mouth that hits Zoroark, doing super effective damage. Zoroark was starting to breath heavily.
"I better end this quick." said Lincoln. "Zoroark, use one more Night Slash!" Zoroark runs at Hatenna with his claws covered in dark energy and slashes it, doing enough super effective damage to knock it out. Bede looks on with stunned shock.
"All four of my Pokemon, beaten by just one?!" said Bede.
"Linky won!" said Leni.
"I knew he could do it!" said Clyde.
"Me, too." said Lana. Bede growls as he returns his Hatenna to its pokeball. He then walks over to Lincoln and hands him pokedollars.
"It seems you're not weak, you just lack refined skill." said Bede.
"Lincoln has lots of skill!" said Luna.
"Whatever." said Bede. "I'll remember what I learned from his battle and plan more strategies for the next time we meet."
"I'll be ready then." said Lincoln. Bede frowns as he storms off down the mine. Lincoln's friends and sisters run over to him.
"Great job, Lincoln." said Ronnie Anne.
"Thanks." said Lincoln. He returns Zoroark to his pokeball and puts it away. "Let's keep going." Everyone cheers in response and the group continues their journey.
