I did not even know about the egg festival but I came in time for it. Lewis showed me the calendar on the side of the store with things that is happening in town when I asked him what was going on.
They decorated the whole area real fast, two large tables of food of all kinds that everyone participated in bringing. It was nice and kind of exciting, wishing I knew to bring my own dish.
The place was packed with so many people.
He told me there was some egg race, the top three with the most eggs at the end get prizes.
I picked up a small personal cheesecake and ate it, it was so good I almost moaned grabbing another.
"Mushroom." The short purple haired girl was almost jumping on my back. "Come search for eggs with me." She looked around.
"Are we not to old?" I looked confused.
"Ah twenty is not to old. He let's us, come on." She pulled on my hand shocked at how friendly she was this morning.
"Ah, not done it since I was like 12, I honestly would love to." I grabbed one more cheesecake and let her drag me off as I shoved the whole thing in my mouth.
Sam stood next to us with two kids and two women I don't know around our age so it felt normal. Lewis handed me a basket and put bunny ears on my head I felt like a child and giggled. I looked at the bunny's around me oddly giddy.
"3,2,1." And we ran off, I headed to the west into the grassy area that was unkept. I moved through home yards and along the river. I found two in a tiny little graveyard that held graves so old I could not read them.
This was so fun I moved to grab one under a bush when I was shoved into the bush missing it. I flipped and shifted stuck in it as Abigal giggled like a crazy women and ran away with my egg.
Took me a second to get out I was both annoyed and chuckling. Bushes are not as soft as they look.
I started to jog around grabbing more really getting into it. A large noise came and I paused, is that the end? I walked over to the main district with only eleven.
We stood in a line as Lewis checked our amounts. Third place was a kid and that made me smile as the purple haired girl cheered and got a bag of candy. Second place was Abigal who seemed pissed she lost and got a magnet for a fridge of a tiny cat.
She looked at Sam and shook her head like it was stupid and they shared a smile that he agreed.
"First place is Addy." I Looked around at who that was when Lewis handed me a straw hat looking like something Luffy would wear. I like the bunny ears better. I was shocked at the second new nickname in less then a week.
"Oh."
I smiled and put it on knowing hats look bad on me and smiled at Lewis.
"So how was it?" She asked me as I walked back to the food.
"Ya great job." Sam spoke to me walking in front of me facing me and skipping backwards. "I look forward to that all year but he hands out the worst prizes." He grabbed the hat off my head and put it on his. "Do I look like a farmer?" He smiled.
"It looks better on you." Abigal spoke to Sam before running towards Sabastian that stood alone. Unsure if that was an insult? "Sabby, I got second place." She laughed. "Check out my cat."
I fixed the shelf from the barn with pride at a new skill wishing to learn more. I slid it in placing it where the desk was and filled it with the books left, some information, some story's and some I would actually read.
I moved a box over where I found what was holding down the tarp around my questionable wheel. I slid the heavy tire and rolled it away to the clean side of the barn. One more small box on top that was light I was able to pull the tarp away and I caught my breath.
A red ATV.
I pulled on it and got it free with a massive struggle but I had no key's, I checked the key chain and sat on it as I looked at all the key's I still don't know what they are for. One slid in but no matter what I did it would not start. Going to need someone to look at it, just sitting on it made me feel excited with this amazing thing between my legs.
"Oh how cool." I jumped and looked shocked at Lewis standing the doorway with a large box. "It is a mess in here."
"Oh hi." I slid off of it. "Why are you here?"
"I brought these for you." I took the box and looked inside at ten large plant's. "Your grandad was who kept us feed with wonderful produce, he used to have chickens and gave us fresh eggs to buy." My heart dropped. "Pierre gives good money for them."
I did not know what to say or do and my silence seemed to make him happy like I was happy. "So when they grow just bring them there." He walked off and I followed awkward not able to speak and get mad at him for this.
I will kill these poor things.
"Look." I spoke up finally and he looked at me and shook his finger.
"I am not taking them back, they are now yours." He smiled going to his truck. I paused sadly before running after him again, old man walks fast. He is really trying to get me to stay.
"What uh. What happened to the chickens?" I asked.
"See you're into this farm thing." I shook my head no. "Marnie took them in." He jumped in the truck and left so fast it was strange. I set the box on the porch and leaned there, there was some clear space I made in front of me.
I jumped over my steps and walked inside sitting on the cold floor wishing for a couch. I started to make a checklist on what I need to to do and then a checklist on all I want to do that I cant do in the city. My week is up so I will be here for a little more then that.
I stared at the ceiling just thinking.
I will plant them.
I can take care of them and then the next person will have some plants already. And they will be a farmer, I will only sell to someone who wants to farm. No greedy land mogul and then the town might have food again.
The charm of this place is kind of comfortable, sweet and feels like it has a rich past.
I got the hoe and started to dig up the dirt and I had some knowledge on how to plant them somewhere in my head I did not know about. I really liked digging in the dirt.
I finally was able to drive an hour away to the garbage dump and ditch everything not worth giving away. Passing through another town they had a coffee shop so I was happily singing to the radio with a real coffee and a box of cookies.
I passed by a furniture shop and I pulled back around at the 70% discount on a small black couch a little larger then a love seat. They had broken the legs on it so it was kind of low to the ground but it was nice and I got it in my truck.
Sadly I went crazy in the store, because I bounced on the mattress so I bought a new one. Pillows and blankets and then this coffee table would look so cute. And then I found a tall white lamp perfect in the kitchen corner to bring in more light. They also had a fluffy dark brown rug on clearance that was so soft.
I was mad at myself and my mom might be more pissed I am wasting all my car money on this place but even if I sell it with the furniture or take it home it would look more like a home, better for people that come to see it.
Right?
Believe me I held back on the décor and I really wanted this dresser and these chairs and an outside chair that I stared at for a good five minutes. I still spent so much money I wanted to bash my head on a wall.
Once I washed the bedding and put all all in their place I laid on the new bed and just had the best nap I have had since I got here. I slept so long I woke up at like four in the morning.
I hung around with nothing to do, darkness outside with a small moon. I went for a drive around the town, I took to some north roads passing a small area with a tent and a firepit. I parked in town and strolled around the basic area finding myself at the beach.
I laid in the sand watching the cloudy dark sky, the sound of waves crashing on the land. Sand crawling into my undies. That part I was not a fan of.
"You okay?" a deep attractive voice made me sat up startled behind me was Sabastian.
"Ya I am good." I looked back at the sky. "What are you doing here?"
"I could not sleep." He sat down next to me.
"I took a nap yesterday and slept for eight hours." I quietly spoke back.
I don't know how long we did not speak watching the endless ocean before I laid on my back on the sand and watched the sky. I did not want to speak much anyway, it was nice and quiet.
"What do you do in the city?" He spoke finally. "Like what is your job, how much is your rent?" He looked away like he talked to much making me smile at him blending into the dark so well. "Sorry you live in the city I want to move to."
"Oh, well I just got fired." I smiled and he looked down on me. "I live with my mom." He was not judging me. "My car died." I piled on as a joke. "I live in the north side, not bad, rent is okay, not the rich area but a safe area." I sat up and dusted the sand from my hair. "If you come get a place there, north park, we can be friends."
"Friends." He mumbled thinking as he stared at the never-ending darkness over the ocean, it really goes nowhere.
"Man it is dark out there." I quietly spoke.
"So empty, so quiet, so perfect." He spoke back. I looked at him like he was being weird.
"So brooding." I spoke with a straight face. He nodded in agreement.
We again sat there in silence for a while the sun started to rise. When I shifted his face snapped to mine like he forgot I was even there. I just shook my head with a smile when I noticed the light making his green eye's glow in the most amazing way.
We stared at each other for a moment, it was not romantic more like weird and awkward.
"Such pretty eye's." I smiled at him and looked back to the sun coming up from nothing.
"Yours to." He spoke "Beauteous in this light."
I squinted looking straight out, what does that mean? I think it was a kind word.
"Cool." I spoke calmly still looking out in front of us.
"Golden." I barely heard him say that.
I felt like we could be friends, he is not the most open or the most talkative but I would be so happy to have him near my home one day. I stood up done and patted his hair as I walked off in the annoying sand.
There is something about these people that feel less fake the people I seem to be around anymore back in the city. Is fake the word, or is it uncaring?
I looked back at him and smiled, I can see why Abigal likes him. I wonder if they are together?
I headed north of the town to a very large park looking for a lady named Robin, she was fixing up some old community building before Morris buys it out and turns it into nothing.
I stopped to look at a old, sun damaged but working fountain.
I sat on the edge and put my hand in the flowing water, it was warm in the sun. I dug into my chest and pulled out the small wallet that fits in there, only my card and a light amount of change. I then moved to throw a small coin into it.
"It is not a wishing well." I heard a rude female voice. I peered around to find the most gorgeous blonde sitting under a tree looking at me with a weird emotion. She eyed me over with a little bit of a rude expression.
"Oh um." I spoke nervously and looked away unsure how to react when a bright flash happened. I looked back at the old school large but expensive looking camera in front of her face. She looked at the camera and nodded putting it down.
"Could have a better outfit but it's alright." She sighed. "I love candid photo's." That interested me, what a neat skill. "I will label it with the weird hitchhikers in town."
"But I am not a hitchhiker."
"You will be gone like the rest." She walked off and waved me away. "I don't care." I was kind of stunned, do I like her or not? I checked out her outfit and loved the dress she wore, her perfectly curled long blonde hair also made me a little jealous.
The doors were open to a very old place that looked like it would fall over, I walked inside blinking from going from light to dark and then noticed the inside looked worse. Robin was alone pulling up broken wood flooring.
"Hi, Robin?" She looked at me serious and nodded. "I was hoping I could hire you to fix my steps to my cabin."
"Give me a moment and I will find a time to go look at it." She continued pulling out the floor. I looked around at the amount of work she has in front of her and noticed she was alone. 'Wait, are you doing all this yourself?" I waved around.
"Ya, I had my son for a whole five minutes, Sam was supposed to be here for community service but it is not as forced as it should be."
"What did he do?" I bit my lip in interest.
"Ah, I forget, I think it was about pickles or something." She waved it away like it did not matter and looked at me. "Lewis has it out for him. He is a good kid."
"What did he do with a pickle?" I asked.
"I really don't care." She spoke. "Something with the soup I think."
I squinted even more confused. "Can I help?" I asked and she looked at me shocked. "I mean I don't know much but I would like to learn a little."
"Well, how can I say no." She flipped the hammer in her hand and stood up handing it to me.
She showed me how to remove planks, How to spread adhesive and put them in snuggly with a small hammer so as she tore I was behind her just continuing. I was with her for a half an hour and started to really like it even if my arms and back started to hurt.
"So how long are you staying?" She asked.
"Not long."
"I think you would get along with my son, sadly it is hard to get him to talk to me these day's, ever since he turned 15 honestly."
I chuckled. "How old he now?"
"24." She sighed. "Boy time flies. Have you met him?"
"I don't know, what is his name?"
"Sabastian." I looked up and smiled.
"Ya I met him." I smiled kindly. "He is quiet." I looked up at the sky at our moment this morning happy about it.
She looked me over at my smile. "Well he could do worse." She smiled at me and winked making me freeze. "I am kidding." She laughed at me.
Robin was pretty cool, after another hour I needed to break but we were almost done all the flooring to this room. She told me for helping her today she will help me rebuild my stairs but letting me do it all myself.
She reminded me that Sabastian might be able to fix my ATV I forgot about until I ranted about it to her.
She is so proud of him and his sister whos name is Maru that I have yet to meet.
She did talk so much about her. That we would be great friends if we met, I already knew her now.
How smart she was as a baby and how she not only does many different sciences but she works part time at the clinic. She can't wait for her to find a man and get married but living in such a small town makes that hard. How she is only 19 and so pretty, she has a sense of humor but sucks and hates a hammer so she spends more time with her dad who is also a scientist.
How at night she watches the stars and is creating some invention in her room. She babbled on and on about her. She was proud of both of them but all she said was Sabastian spends to much time in his room, on his computer, Demetrius is not his dad and that was all I learned about him.
I feel him with the computer, maybe we have more in common then I figured. I wonder if he games and what kinds he plays.
I was sweaty having my sweater wrapped around my waist finally leaving I went straight to the bar. I got a little lost but found my way near the parking lot when I heard a thud and then a cry.
I ran over and a pretty red haired girl with a braid was jumping around on one foot with her eye's shut in pain.
"You okay?" I laughed out and she shook her head yes while putting down her toe, the box that fell on her was so large.
"Any online packages goes to Pierre's and now I need to get this heavy ass clay box home." She bent over. "So heavy, took me ages to get it just to here." I smiled. "Never get this much clay in one box." I moved to the other side and we tried to lift the heaviest fucking box I ever lifted into the back of a car.
It almost did not fit and we both had to push it to get it in.
"Thanks." She smiled. "You are the new girl, The farmer?" She pointed at me with interest in her eye's.
Man everyone knows me. I nodded yes.
"It's nice to meet you. You picked a good time to move here. The spring is lovely, oh and I am Leah. First time making a large structure, hope it was worth it." She hopped in her car and I noticed it was a mad mess inside.
Piles of crap everywhere, red bull cans scattered all over the passengers seat. "Thanks'" She yelled as she pulled away.
People here are so nice.
I took my seat at the bar, the normals and two other men just scattered, one guy with a crazy beard sat at a booth looking sad, on the other side of me was this stunning man with great hair.
I stared at him for a moment when Gus stood in front of me waiting on me to speak. I ordered his salad that is more like fried mushrooms, asparagus and lettuce. So weird but not bad and a coffee.
But looking around every single person had a beer, it has been a long time since I had one. "Gus." He looked down at me from far down the bar. "Actually could I have a beer."
"What kind?"
I nodded at Shane and Gus smiled at me heading to one barrel on tap. He put it on the bar and nodded at me. He slid it down with speed my anxiety growing never doing this before, I caught it but not well as the beer spilled over my hand and the bar making the other man with perfect hair laugh at me.
I smiled at him and his perfect face before we looked away and back to lost in our heads.
Gus passed Pam going to make my food as she came stumbling from the bathrooms, She sat down and swayed.
She stared at me for a good few seconds making me stare back confused.
Then she yelled loudly. "If I owned that land I would build a large home and a bunker and my own bar." I just looked startled at the noise and smiled awkwardly. "You have something there my girl." I was about to speak. "And your hair."
That made the three eye's I could see stare directly at my messy sweat covered work hair and I felt exposed and nervous.
"Is that natural?" She asked. Gus came from the back heading to me with a plate of food.
I shook my head. "It is pink and slightly blonde."
"More yellow then blonde. Mine is gray under this blonde." She gripped her own short hair. "Is this cut not the cutest." She shook her head to make it move and I gave a small smile hating that style but I could not tell her that.
"It is magnificent my lady." The pretty boy spoke to her. "Perfect for a women like you." She blushed looking at him and smiled. I would blush to, the way he speaks. If you put a fan on him and ripped his shirt a little he would look like a man on the cover of a dirty girl novel.
Like every fantasy book boyfriend.
Hmm, I could use a dirty novel, that could be my entertainment. I was lost in my thoughts as they talked thinking about what kind of dirty book I wanted as I sipped my beer.
"How is that book coming?" Pam yelled at the man. Ah he is writer?
"No where yet." He sighed.
"What kind?" I asked him and he looked over at me happy to talk about this it seems.
"Not sure yet, Romance, mystery maybe."
I leaned into the bar and gave him a cheeky smile. "How innocent is it?"
"Far from it." He copied my move and smiled right back. Oh wait, he is the man the dirty novel. Oh to read the man he writes will be amazing, I wonder if it is good.
"Well then I might read it." Gus spoke seriously looking lost in thought and we all looked at him Pam had this shocked face like he just flashed the whole bar.
Pam shook her head. "That is so wrong, Gus really?" Shame covered his face. "Look at you differently, just get me another beer." He seemed embarrassed and my heart reached out as she just shook her head in judgement.
"Be nice children." She spoke to us. "A little pride." She hiccupped and almost fell from her chair before downing what was left of her drink. "Have some class." Then she burped confusing me as she was serious.
Shane was strangely looking at my face and then back at pam with a small cracked smile and we locked eye's again, I smiled looking at the table and trying not to laugh.
I think she ruined the pretty man's time as he stood up sadly and stretched.
I called out before he moved to far. "Got to let me read what you have before I go."
I tried to make him happy and he nodded at me stepping to me and rubbing my hair before he gripped my face as his hand slid under my chin and he lifted it to face him. He looked down on me so sweetly I was frozen. "My name is Elliott beautiful. We will see, bring me some eggs from that farm and maybe I can show you my heart."
He walked away in a swoosh of the most amazing smell wafting into my nose. The door shut as I stared at it. "Damn I think my panties just dropped." I joked to no one quietly. "Shit, I bet he makes a great book." As much as that made me a nervous and I loved it, it did not really feel anything about it.
I looked back to my food happy and frowned. "Oh crap, I don't have chickens." I said to myself looking at my salad.
"I do." Shane looked me like he was having a long day.
"Can I borrow an egg?"
"Buy a chicken." He spoke quietly and angry.
Why did that sound so inviting.
I should get two and maybe a? What is male name. Make me more chickens.
What is the male called?
I know this, why can I not remember.
"Got a cock?" I froze and looked at him when I heard it and cocked my head to the right and nodded squinting at him.
A small noise came from him. "So much." I think he flirted with me but he was still his angry, fuck off toned self. I was looking at him with a smile glad to talk to him when a large bang made me jump.
We all looked to Pam who just passed out and hit her head on the bar.
I watched worried as Gus tried to wake her. "Looks like Penny will be coming tonight." I was confused and he noticed. "Her daughter, got to get her home somehow. Poor girl"
"Where is her home?" I looked wondering if I could help.
"She lives in a trailer near the river."
I stood up. "Let me." I shifted her with her arm around my neck but was almost dropping this large women. "Damn Penny must be strong." I mumbled. Dragging her feet I tried to get her more into my arms but she was wide and I stumbled.
Suddenly she got lighter and peeked around to Shane who looked at me and cringed looking away. "You looked pathetic." I was shocked but happy for the help.
We got her outside and walked passed some home's stumbling a few times but keeping her safe. We passed a pen to a large dog that I would like to pet on a different day. I stared at the happy dog until I could not look at it anymore.
"Why am I doing this." I heard him mumble. "I am never doing this again, I am to drunk for this."
I just laughed lightly and it got quiet again.
The trailer sat near the river like he said but even the grass around it decided to quit. There was a tire half stuck in the dirt. One worn down seat next to a table with empty beer cans and a wine bottle.
I knocked on the door and waited but no one was home so we got her in the small place onto the only bed. Clothes and dishes were everywhere. There was a lot of seating in here, looks bigger inside then out.
I almost fell into Shane as I had the opposite side of Pam, he grabbed the back of my shirt so I could not fall and pulled me back up but at the same time the door swung open and I just squeaked.
He had my shirt in his hands while my butt was almost pressed into his front as I was slightly bent over a cute young women just stared at us confused. She looked so sweet and lost. He let me go and we moved so she could see her mother passed out snoring.
"It is not even night yet." She sighed looking outside. "Thank you." I could tell she was ashamed and it made me feel ashamed of me for some reason. We just shuffled out quietly. "Thanks'" He nodded and as we passed he went back into the bar and I just headed home.
