(Scenes from Legends of Tomorrow Season 4, Episode 12)

Kamadeva is dropped off in Bali. Let his 1,000 wives handle him. Following this, business has resumed as commonplace. Captain Lance has left the Waverider to speak to Director Sharpe. Meanwhile, Mr. Constantine enters the bridge and is shocked to find Dr. Palmer conversing with Miss Darhk in the parlour. "Nora, what are you doing here?"

"Uh, I can explain," the astrophysicist begins.

" I can explain," she counters. "I didn't kill Hank. It was a demon."

"Yeah, I know." The sorcerer discloses, "His name is Neron, and he's wearing Desmond as a bleeding suit." Yikes.

The captain instantaneously comes into the parlour. At the same time, Miss Tomaz arrives from the opposite direction. They don't seem to care that the woman wanted by the Time Bureau is there. "Ray!"

He jovially announces, "Sara, great news! Hank was killed by a demon." Don't echo that to your best friend, Dr. Palmer.

"'Great' wasn't the word he was looking for," Miss Darhk clarifies.

"Poor Nate," Miss Tomaz speaks in an undernote.

"Look, Ava is missing," Captain Lance hastily reveals. No, not again. She recounts how, when she went to her apartment, it looked like there was a struggle. I hadn't heard the captain's voice sound frantic prior to now. "I... I should've checked on her sooner."

Mr. Constantine surmises that Neron is the reason for the director's disappearance. "He has his sights set on the Time Bureau and the creatures, and if he got to Hank, then dingdongs to doughnuts, Ava was next."

Captain Lance swiftly refutes, "Hey, she is not dead."

"Listen, when Neron was at the Bureau, he and I shared a connection," Miss Darhk recollects. "If you can take me to Ava's place, I might be able to know where he took her."

The soothsayer vehemently opposes her idea. "He'll know your past; how susceptible you are. You're a liability."

"She's not a liability," Dr. Palmer negates. "She's a survivor. Unlike you, she's turned her dark experiences into a source of strength, not an excuse for alcoholism or chain smoking. She also saved your life." All of which is true. He asks her, "Sorry, would you like to add anything?"

"No, that about covers it."

"I don't care if she's a liability," the captain states. "If Neron has Ava, then I need all the magical firepower that we've got." She tasks Miss Darhk and Mr. Constantine to accompany her. She instructs Miss Tomaz, "Woman the ship." The trio rushes back to Director Sharpe's apartment for clues. Dr. Palmer portals to the Time Bureau.

The precedent group returns with the blanketed director. She looks pale, numb, and she has markings on her chest and shoulder. Mr. Constantine lays her on a cot in the lab. Captain Lance queries the sorcerer, "What did he do to her?"

He grimly places his hands on his hips. "He's preparing her. Neron must be looking for a new vessel. It only makes sense going after Ava, especially if he wants to take control of the Time Bureau. But when a demon possesses someone, the body has to be willing. If it's not, the demon has to force his way in by sending its soul to Purgatory." The captain glances at Director Sharpe. "That's where the real fight begins."

"How do we save her?"

"Some souls go up, and some go down. But if she's been there as long as she has, then she's not coming back, Sara."

Captain Lance gapes at him in disbelief. "I'm not giving up on her, John. You're going to send me to Purgatory to get her."

"If I send you down there with her," he argues, "there's nothing that I can do to protect you."

"I'll take my chances."

"This isn't something you can fight your way through, love."

"John, please!" Some people, I suppose, are worth fighting for.

Mr. Constantine reluctantly accedes, "Fine." He pushes the extra cot next to the director's. "Lay down." The captain readily does as she is told. He sprinkles black powder on the floor, encircling the two women. "Our Purgatory is designed to drive the soul to breaking point. It's tailored to drive the captive mad. Now where you're going, that is Ava's personal nightmare."

"I've died, lost my soul, and escaped a demon realm. I'm pretty sure I can handle Ava's Purgatory." This is not the time to be supercilious, Captain.

"Well, prepare for the worst, Sara Lance." She closes her eyes. As he recites a Latin incantation, her soul is sent to Director Sharpe's Purgatory.

In the meantime, Miss Tomaz is having a quiet breakfast in the Galley. Miss Wu excitedly disrupts her solitude upon arrival. "I got it. Natari!" She stands opposite the disinterested hacker.

"I'm gonna regret asking this, but what's that?"

"It's your couple's name. 'Nat' for Nate, and 'Ari' is obviously for you." Huh, a portmanteau like AvaLance.

"You know I'm a superhero, right? With a flick of my wrist, I could blast you with my wind powers." At that point, Charlie and Mr. Rory both show up from different entrances. The shapeshifter is amidst brushing her teeth. The latter is looking for a snack in the refrigerator. They don't find her powers intimidating. The arsonist even compares her to a "magical hair dryer". Miss Tomaz interrogates, "What is this, 'Legends Eye for the Straight Guy'?"

"You're straight," Charlie teasingly smirks.

"Where's Sara," Mr. Rory asks.

The computer specialist replies, "She's with Constantine and Nora, trying to find Ava."

"Actually, they've returned," I notify them, "and Mr. Constantine has requested a team meeting in the lab."

"He can do that," the shapeshifter earnestly questions.

"No," Mr. Rory answers.

"Let's go, dummies," Miss Tomaz says. She leaves with Miss Wu and Charlie, who snags her bagel. Mr. Rory sits down and eats her breakfast. In the lab, Mr. Constantine summarizes the current situation for them. Miss Wu restates, "Ava's in hell?"

"She's not in hell," Miss Darhk clarifies. "Her soul is trapped in... limbo." Unexpectedly, a portal from the Time Bureau opens in the corridor. It's no secret Agent Green is here out of his obsessive loyalty to Director Sharpe. Concurrently, it has been a year and four weeks since his previous visit.

He races into the lab, proclaiming, "And I'm right there with her."

"Gary," Mr. Constantine moans.

"Emotionally." He peers downward at his boss. "Poor Director Sharpe."

"I've sent Sara down there to try and pull her out." A confused Charlie wonders why she would do that since they've broken up. Miss Wu's explication hits the nail on the head. Regardless of the termination, the director means the world to Captain Lance.

"What can we do," Agent Green inquires.

"Sara chose to go in after her," the soothsayer discloses, "so, unless praying is your thing, then the best thing you can do is wait."

"You don't have to worry." He then willingly steps into the circle. Charlie and Miss Darhk are close to protesting, but Mr. Constantine assures that the agent will be fine. "I'll take good care of her." Agent Green intently stares at Director Sharpe as he utters this, creeping the others out. "Them," he corrects himself while glancing at the captain. He does acknowledge that the exes are more compatible for each other. So, why is he so obsequious to the director?

"All right, Charlie, you're with me."

She remarks, "This should be interesting."

"Let's go see what this demon wants, shall we?" He questions Miss Darhk, "You up for it?"

"Yeah."

"All right then, let's raise some hell." Mr. Constantine, Charlie, and Miss Darhk exit the ship to an unknown destination. Misses Tomaz and Wu leave Agent Green to take care of Captain Lance and Director Sharpe.

While they wait in the parlour, Miss Wu notices the computer specialist texting Dr. Heywood. Miss Tomaz reminds her there are "more important things to focus on". In addition, she's conscious to how his father's death is affecting him. "It's not the right time."

"What are you texting?"

She reluctantly shows her screen to Miss Wu. "'Hey, what's up?'" Mr. Rory groans disapprovingly. "I don't know why I'm talking to you two about it. You don't date humans."

"Love's love," the arsonist drunkenly claims. She rolls her eyes, realizing that a further argument will be futile.

I won't deny this; as a caretaker, Agent Green peculiarly goes above and beyond. He has transformed the lab into an indoor relaxation room full of candles, towels, and plants. He also has requested me to play serene music in the background. He covers Director Sharpe with a fleecy throw. "Whatever you need, I'm here," he whispers to her as he fans the smoke from the incense burner near her. Agent Green's words unwittingly trigger my thoughts of Rip. Whenever I would say, " I'm here, Captain," he would respond, "You always are."

"Did you send it," Miss Wu inquires Miss Tomaz.

"Honestly, mate," Charlie queries, "whatever happened to just talking to someone?" Just recently, you wanted her to 'smash' Dr. Heywood.

"Emojis are way more fun, and if he's not that into it, you can pretend like you were talking about something else." And you told her to be honest.

"Right," Miss Tomaz sarcastically evaluates. "Nate's gonna think I was dying to tell him about a dancing lady carrying a burning eggplant." What does that translate to? At the same time, Mr. Rory has finished typing something on his typewriter.

"Here, use words." He gives the result to Miss Tomaz. "It's erotic but vulnerable."

"Okay, let me see it." She gets up from her seat and receives it. After reading what he has written, she has one critique. "I'm not saying 'bulge'."

Almost two hours later, Captain Lance jolts upward and gasps for air. She worriedly turns to an unconscious Director Sharpe, who resuscitates seconds later. "Hey," the captain sighs as she rushes to her side.

The director is overjoyed to see her in the flesh. "You did it," she affirms.

"No." Captain Lance blissfully strokes Director Sharpe's hair. " We did it." They come close to kissing when Agent Green pops up and interrupts the moment. The captain glares at the happy yet oblivious bureaucrat. I don't understand why he insists on being overly familiar. Him and Miss Wu, for that matter.

Speaking of whom, she and Charlie are still conferring on what Miss Tomaz should text Dr. Heywood. Mr. Rory is asleep in his chair. "Eggplant's a little obvious. I say you go with mushroom. Mushroom..." They are elated to witness the animated twosomes entering the bridge. "Ava, you're back from the dead!"

"I knew you'd do it, Captain," the hacker confirms, hugging her.

Miss Wu gives Director Sharpe a tight squeeze. The latter winces in pain. "Uh, gently."

"Sorry, sorry, sorry."

"Oh, nice job, boss," the shapeshifter clamors, giving the captain a high-five.

"Okay, serious, which emoji like..."

Charlie snatches Miss Tomaz's phone from Miss Wu's hands. "All right, enough with the emojis." She types something random.

The computer specialist tells the pair, "Just leave while you can. Just..." She motions them to go.

They accordingly do that. "You know," the director says to Captain Lance, "we should probably talk about whether or not we want kids."

"Eh, let's wait until the other eight are old enough to handle the news." They decide to go to the former's apartment. I'm unaware of whatever she and Director Sharpe went through in Purgatory. Nevertheless, they emerged out of there stronger than before. They are now collaborative partners from this moment on.

Miss Tomaz assesses what the shapeshifter has typed. "I don't even know what this text means anymore. 'You up? Hot dog, donut, thumbs up.'"

"Well," Charlie asks, "you wanna snog him, yeah? Or do you want him to get diabetes?"

"Okay, this doesn't sound like me at all."

"You like him, and he likes you. Just tell him that." Now, that makes sense.

"Okay, uh..." The hacker types her text aloud. "'Want to go out sometime... on a date?'" She finally sends it, much to Charlie and Miss Wu's satisfaction. Miss Tomaz, for the most part, is proud of herself too.

"Oh, yeah. See, that wasn't so bad. Now, it's all on Nate."

The computer specialist looks at the shapeshifter in horror. She then rereads the delivered message on her phone. "Oh crap, what did I do?" You made the first move. Miss Tomaz departs the Waverider to find Dr. Heywood and explain herself. Fifteen minutes later, she happily returns with the knowledge that he'd never read her text. Maybe next time.
