Chapter 10: The Truth
Rachel knew something was bugging Vampiro when he went to speak with the rest of the council and she went up to one of the soldiers. "What is going on?" She asked him.
"The King is preparing for a war," the soldier said.
"It's coming to that?" She asked, worry in her voice.
"It appears so."
Rachel set her jaw and turned. "My birth father will rue the day he picked his path," she said as she walked down the hall, her head held high as she went to find her sister.
Sasha came out of her room and she saw her sister coming up to her. "It's about him, isn't it?" She asked. "He caused Tetrax's and Rook's injuries. I overheard Vampiro telling the council. Our birth father apparently knows we're not on Earth anymore."
"But how does he know that?" Rachel asked. "Could he be tracking us?"
"But how?" Her sister asked. "He couldn't find us before."
"But he did find you before Apollo and Ghostfreak got you out of the shelter," the older sister pointed out.
"True," Sasha said before gasping in shock. "What if...he's tracking me?"
"I think we need to get back to Melodica and check our stuff," Rachel said.
The two girls rushed from the palace, asking the guards to let Vampiro know that they had headed home and the two rushed through town. Some of the townspeople were curious, but seeing the urgent look on the girls' faces, they didn't stop them. The two soon made it home went inside, going up to their stuff and searching their items.
"I can't find anything," Sasha said.
"Me neither," her sister said before her eyes widened. "Sasha, the book."
"The one we gave Zeus?" The younger girl asked before her eyes widened. "You think...there was a tracker on my half of the book?"
The silence in the room was deafening before Rachel turned to the computers she had seen Melodica use to call people. "I think we need to call Zeus," she said.
Thankfully, Melodica had Zeus' info on the computer and Sasha typed it in. Zeus replied right away, surprised to see the girls. "Hello, Rachel. Hello, Sasha," he said warmly.
"Zeus, we need you to check the book Sasha and I gave you," Rachel said urgently.
"We think our birth father might have put a tracker on my half to try and find me," Sasha said.
Apollo appeared. "Whoa, slow down, girls," he said. "What makes you two think that?"
"Last night, a ship was attacked and it landed her on Anur Transyl," Rachel said. "The pilot was a Petrosapien named Tetrax and he was injured, along with a Plumber named Rook Blonko. We also overheard that Vampiro's men found something that leads them to believe our birth father is attacking other worlds and knows Sasha and I aren't on Earth anymore."
"Please, guys," Sasha pleaded. "We've checked our other items, but didn't find any trackers. The book has to be where it is."
Zeus grabbed the book and scanned it and to his shock, the girls were right. "You're right," he said, holding up the small tracking device before he broke it. "It was in the spine of your half of the book, Sasha."
"And we never knew," Rachel said, sounding angry. "Zeus. Apollo. I'm done running."
"Me too," Sasha said. "Our birth dad isn't going to stop until he finds us."
"Girls?" Apollo asked.
Rachel set her jaw. "We're taking the fight to him and we're going to make him sorry for everything he's done," she said before the two signed off the call and nodded to each other, grabbing their money that Melodica had given them for doing chores and helping out around the house.
"Where to first?" Sasha asked.
"We need armor like what Rook is wearing," Rachel said. "I think I know where to find some."
They headed out, not seeing Ghostfreak following them as he had heard their plan and was worried.
The girls got to the Plumber base on Anur Transyl, going inside and meeting with Scout, who was surprised to learn what the girls wanted to do. "We Plumbers are under orders to keep you two safe," he said.
"And we appreciate that, Scout," Sasha said. "But our birth father isn't going to stop until he has what he wants."
"How many more people have to be hurt or worlds attacked until enough is enough, Scout?" Rachel asked, her tone sharp before she softened her voice at seeing him flinch. "Please help us, Scout. Running away and hiding isn't going to stop that monster. Facing him and defeating him will show him that he cannot control us."
Scout sighed as he couldn't argue their logic. "I'm going to lose my badge for this, but I admire your courage," he said as he gave them two Proto-suits. "These will protect you. I'll get your weapons as you put these on."
The sisters put on the armor and noticed how lightweight it felt, but it was durable too. Scout came back and he handed Rachel two metal staffs. "Flick out your wrist and aim for those targets," he said. "But don't let go of the staffs."
She was curious, but did so, energy whips coming from the staffs as they attached to her wrists and she moved fluidly, hitting the targets and the whip cracking, not missing a target. She turned them off and smiled. "I think these suit me perfectly," she said.
"You're a natural," he said before handing Sasha two metal fans. She noticed they were like her armor and he nodded. "Go for it. Copy what your sister did."
Taking a deep breath, Sasha opened the fans with a flick of her wrists and began moving, knocking away projectiles that Scout tossed at her and she even caught a few of them, tossing them back. When she finished, she smiled. "Guess Mom was right about having us do dance when we were little," she said.
"And how she told us to never stop dancing," Rachel said with a nod.
Scout got them to a ship and showed the girls how to enter coordinates and the other ship functions. "Be careful," he said. "I'll figure some excuse to give Magister Tennyson."
Sasha looked at him and hugged him. "Thank you," she said.
Rachel hugged him too. "Can you let King Vampiro and his sons know?" She asked. "And also keep Melodica and our brothers safe?"
"You got it," Scout said with a nod.
The girls took off in the ship and were soon blasting into space. Sasha turned to her sister and Rachel looked at her, both nodding to each other as they knew what it might come down to. "At least the bright side is that we will never have to see him again after this," the younger sister said.
"True," her older sister said. "Vampiro's more like a dad to us."
"So are Zeus and Phantasmo," Sasha said. "Do you think Zeus figured out what we're doing?"
"No doubt," Rachel said. "I just hope they don't stop us."
"They won't," said a new voice that made them jump and turn quickly to see Ghostfreak was behind them.
"Ghostfreak?" Sasha said. "What are you doing here?"
"I followed you two after hearing your idea to stop your birth father," he said. "I admire your courage, but you can't face him alone."
"We have no choice, bro," Rachel said. "He's not going to stop until Sasha and I stop him."
"Wait, you didn't let me finish," Ghostfreak said gently. "You can't face him alone. That's why I'm coming with you, as are a couple of friends."
From the cargo hold came Rook and Tetrax, both looking better and ready to fight. The Petrosapien smiled. "You girls have your mother's bravery," he said. "Now let's show your birth dad what you're made of."
Rook looked confused. "What they are made of?" He asked.
Rachel smiled. "It means show him that we're no longer afraid of him," she explained.
"And I think I know how to do that," Sasha said as she found something and showed her sister what it was. "It's his phone number."
The blonde-haired girl smiled. "Then let's make him an offer that's impossible to refuse."
What does Rachel have in mind? We shall see. :)
