Psychopaths (SCREAM 1)
Chapter 1
After a year of Amara being away, she's finally back in Woodsboro, the town she never wanted to leave in the first place. She's been back for two weeks now but has been avoiding school. Only her friend Casey knew she was back.
After a few hours of unpacking, she waited on the couch for her mom to come home. She's a nurse, so she's busy most nights but she promised since Amara's back that she'd be home more but that promise was yet to be fulfilled.
Not wanting to wait any longer she hops in her jeep, sparking a blunt inhaling the smoke before heading to her old friend Casey's house. They used to be best friends but an incident that took place months prior ruined it but since she's been back Casey has been trying everything to get her to come over so she chose tonight to finally listen.
She mostly smoked for her anxiety and nerves which were on level ten since she got back, she knew sooner or later she'd have to make up with her friends.
After a few minutes, she pulled up to Casey's house to see the porch lights on, but her parent's car was gone, she honestly didn't expect them to be home. They never were they were always out on dates, she used to stay at Casey's a lot which she figured is why she never knew about the issues that were going on at home.
She puts out her half blunt while climbing out of the jeep. She grabs her purse and headed to the door she was a little buzzed, but she thought it was weird it was so quiet all you could hear were her tracks heading toward the door, she paused seeing a dark figure in the bushes looking at her without thinking twice she runs up to the door knocking like a mad woman.
'You're just high, and seeing things' she chants in her mind.
The door quickly opened revealing Casey making her jump, she highly doubted she checked to see who was at the door before opening it.
"Amara!" She gasped practically jumping on her, not wanting to stay outside any longer she lightly pushed her back "Hi Casey, I missed you too. Can we go inside?" she was still stressed, checking behind her, but it was as if she imagined it, Casey quickly pulled her inside keeping a tight grip on her arm.
"Surprise," a lot of people jump out and scream, making Amara jump holding her chest, she looks everyone over before looking back at Casey who gave her a cheeky smile.
'She did this' she groans before giving everyone a fake smile. The radio gets turned on loudly as everyone starts dancing "We've got to catch up!" Casey squealed, glowing with happiness as she dragged her to the kitchen.
A group of people stood at the counter chugging a bottle until Casey snatched it shooing them away. "Steve is on his way,"
She immediately stiffened and scowled at that name. She couldn't stand Steve. "What happened to Stu?" she asked, confused. She never really liked them together but he was happy so she accepted it.
"Steve's just more fun." She marveled with no guilt of dumping him. "That's the dumbest thing I've heard all day," she replies, rolling her eyes. She didn't bother hiding her disappointment in Casey picking Steve; she knew when she left that she liked Steve but never thought she'd hurt Stu like that. She unhooks her arm from Casey's.
Amara couldn't help but feel disappointed that he wasn't there.
Casey gives her a dry look, "You're really not gonna let that go, are you?" she scoffs as she takes a seat on the kitchen stool. "If it happened to you, you'd feel the same way."
"Is Randy here?" she asked changing the subject as she did a scan of the party. Of course Casey would throw a party for her and not actually invite anyone she likes.
Casey gives her a disgusted look "Ew, why would I invite him?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Anyways, we were gonna do a horror movie night, wanna join?" She asked, obviously trying to change the subject. Amara shook her head pouring herself A drink.
"I'll see you later," she tells Casey, walking by her before she could reply. Amara gives a fake smile as she pushes through people, her right eye twitches when she is pushed aside by an unknown redhead. "Whoops my bad," she says, not sorry at all.
Amara nods her head smiling before pushing on the bottom of her cup making it spill all over herself. "Whoops," The girl scoffs before walking away grumbling.
Amara heads to Casey's room upstairs letting out a sigh of relief as she closes the door, the raging music getting quieter. She takes a deep breath shaking her head, A party was the last thing she wanted to be at right now. She freezes when she hears a shift in Casey's closet ahead of her. She quickly stands moving towards the door but not turning her back on it. Before she could consider if she imagined it. The bedroom door opens and hands wrap around her waist.
"What the hell?!" Steve Orth smiles down at her, gripping her tighter as she pushes against his chest not caring about the look of disgust and pure rage in her eyes. "Let me go..now"
Steve looks her over before finally letting her go, he leans against the doorway blocking her exit. "Where have you been? I've missed you," he tries to push a piece of her hair behind her ear but she quickly smacks his hand away before it could touch her face. He ignores the rejection, giving her a smirk. "Did you miss me?"
She sighs loudly tilting her head, "If I threw a stick, would you leave?" she asks annoyedly, ignoring his question. His smirk drops as he takes a step forward before he can touch her, she lifts her knee hard between his legs making him fall to his knees groaning.
"Bitch,"
"I'm aware and it doesn't bother me," she responds, stepping over him leaving Casey's room closing the door, her heart drops when she hears a loud thump on the other side of the door. She takes a deep breath shaking her head. 'He's fine."
Amara decided to hide for the rest of the party, taking a nap in Casey's parents bedroom, A loud scream startles her awake. She rushes downstairs heading toward the living room. A sigh of relief leaves her lips when she sees that the scream came from the tv.
Casey pops up from on the floor with a trash bag in hand "Where have you been?" You abandoned me," she whines as she picks up dirty empty cups. Amara rolls her eyes flopping down on the couch. "I never asked for a party,"
"Should still be grateful," she sneers before throwing couch popcorn on her. The phone rings loudly, making both girls jump in surprise. Casey answers the phone and leaves the room. Amara starts to pay attention to the movie until Casey comes back without the phone.
"Who was it?
"Wrong number." She replies putting her feet up.
She shifted on the couch wishing she brought her half blunt inside; she was definitely creeped out and the fact Casey's house was miles away from neighbors and practically in the middle of nowhere didn't help. Amara has always been paranoid. "I can't believe Steve didn't show,"
Amara looks at her confused. "I saw Steve, he was here. I kicked him in the nuts and left him in your room," Casey eyes go wide as she tries not to laugh.
"Hmm. weird. I didn't see him... I'm gonna go get blankets." Casey says going into another room. Not even five minutes later the phone rang. Amara jumped up, getting irritated.
"Casey!" she yells out.
"I got it!" She shouts back, the ringing stops and she sees the landline phone beeping red.
She starts to walk around the living room trying to calm her nerves but for some reason, she couldn't relax. Steve disappearing creeped her out. She looked through the darkness of the patio but could only see the pool she spent so many summers in.
Casey comes back into the room rolling her eyes, smiling into the phone. She suddenly tosses the phone to Amara which she barely catches.
" Talk to the creep, I have to go to the bathroom." She said quickly running away before she could reply. She looks at the phone confused. Why didn't she just hang up?
She put the phone to her ear hearing static, "hello phone guy that my friend should've hung up on." she says awkwardly into the phone. She received no response. Did they hang up? She wondered, as the person on the phone silently freaked out hearing her voice.
"Hello?" she tries again but still no response.
"Okay hanging up." she hears the shuffling of fabric before a deep voice responds.
"Who's this? Where'd your friend go?" the man asks.
She silently wowed at how attractive the mystery man's voice was "That's none of your business." I reply. A deep chuckle comes through the phone that gives her butterflies.
"What's your name doll?" he asks.
She ignores his question and nibbles her bottom at the pet name" What's your name?"
She smiled. "Me too, my friend made the rule when we were younger." My heart aches thinking of Billy. She. wondered how he'll react seeing her again. "Is this friend your boyfriend?" he asks being nosy.
A sad smile crosses her face she was considering just hanging up, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to open up a little.
"No." she mumbled feeling sad as she thought of Billy Loomis, the boy everyone wanted.
There was a long silence at first before he finally spoke "lucky me then "she lets out a dry laugh rolling her eyes. "You couldn't handle me,"
"Is that a challenge?" he questions with humor and curiosity.
Before she could reply Casey comes walking back into the room reading a magazine before checking on the popcorn. Amara gives her the finger as she makes kiss faces at her as she walked to the Living room
"What are your plans for the evening?" The mystery man asks not liking the silence.
"We're watching Halloween," she replies.
"Nice choice. Is that your favorite scary movie?"
She gets comfortable on the stool in front of the counter before answering. "No, Coraline is." the shuffling of fabric goes through the phone again.
"What.?" He asks shocked about her choice, her answer definitely caught him off guard.
"You know the movie with the girl who goes through the small door and has her dream life which turns out to be a nightmare where her other mom wants to sew buttons into her eyes and eat her soul." There was a long pause before he answered.
"You're kidding." he says not taking her seriously.
"No, I'm not kidding, I had nightmares for months as a child." she says shivering, Stu used to tease her and convince her he'd sew buttons in her eyes if she ever tried to date. Stu was a bit protective when it came to her.
Casey laughs loudly from the other room before she could ask what the hell was so funny, A deep groan comes from the phone, "That's not a real scary movie." He says in a teasing tone. She grew irritated and offended.
"Well, it's my choice and you asked, keep talking, you'll meet Betsy." she snaps. Realizing she left her at her house, she usually took her everywhere with her but it didn't cross her mind tonight.
"Who's Betsy?" he asks curiously.
She smiles to herself before replying "Let's hope you never have to find out."
The man on the phone starts to laugh, she bites back a smile at how attractive it sounds "I hope I don't; you never told me your name though." he points out.
"Why you wanna know so badly, wanna take me on a date." she asks, feeling a little bold she didn't know why but she felt a connection. another deep chuckle comes through the phone.
"Yes that, and I wanna know who I'm looking at."
Amara's heart drops and all color drained from her face. She quickly jumped out the seat making it fall. She tried to control her breathing "What did you just... you know what...Fuck this. I'm out."
"Hang on-"
"Fuck you" she yells reaching over the counter to slam the phone down.
"I swear if you hang up-"
Rolling her eyes she immediately hangs up the phone and grabbed her purse. She had the feeling of eyes on her back so she walked backward into the living room. Casey was sitting on the couch cross-legged reading a magazine.
She slams her purse down and immediately started to dig through it. Casey slowly gets up looking at her worriedly. "You, okay?"she ignores her question.
"Go make sure the doors are locked Casey." she just stands there confused making her yell at her "Now!" Casey hesitates at first but quickly runs to the front door and locks it.
She pulled out her switchblade and continued to search looking for her taser. it was moments like this she wished she brought Betsy.
Casey comes running back wide eyed at the sharp object in her hands. "Amara, are you okay? What's going on? " She whisper shouts, confused.
She ignores her again finally finding her taser but frowned immediately seeing its dead. "Fuck" she screams out throwing it
"What is going on?!" Casey asks, scared. Before she could answer her, the phone on the table next to them starts to ring.
Casey reaches for it as Amara tries to stop her "Don't you fucking-" but it was too late, Casey already picked it up. Amara holds her head groaning at her stupidity.
After a few seconds Casey makes a disgusted face, "Is this some kind of sick joke?"
Amara knew it was the same man she spoke to. She ran my finger across her blade nervously as Casey went to the patio sliding doors and looked through them, it was still too dark to see anything beyond the pool.
Casey slowly pulls the phone from her ear and hands it to Amara. "He said he wasn't done talking to you." she gulps nervously taking the phone.
"Why are you doing this to us?" she asks breathing into the phone. He laughs a deep chuckle sending chills down my spine.
"You weren't supposed to be here doll,"
"You need to back off or else," she warns.
"Or else what" his deep voice challenges, "I know you don't have a boyfriend to protect you, your all mine."
Amara's face twists in disgust as Casey snatches the phone back, "But I do, he's big, plays football and will kick your ass." She yells trying to scare him. Amara immediately rolls her eyes at the statement but hoped it would scare the guy off.
"Oh, I'm getting really scared. his name wouldn't be Steve. Would it?" He questions in a mocking tone.
Amara's quick to catch Casey as her knees buckle.
"Go turn on the patio lights." Casey shakily stands up, where there was once nothing now there's a gagged Steve tied to a chair, he was roughed up badly but alive, his eyes wide with fear. He struggles further with his restraints seeing them both
"Oh my god." Casey gasps out as her hand goes toward the lock on the door.
"Casey don't!" Amara says dragging her back. "No offense but it's us or him, and he's a goner." she states with honesty hoping to convince her to leave. It was obvious the killer would be out there waiting for her.
"You should listen to her, Casey." The man on the phone adds. Casey cried out in fear trying to look around the yard but saw nothing but darkness.
"What do you want from us? Please don't hurt him.!" She questioned and begged into the phone.
"Who says I want anything from Amara? As for Steve, well that depends on you. You'll do exactly as I say"
Amara froze hearing her name. Not once was her name uttered the whole night. This person knows her. "No" Casey replies scared.
"Do you want to die?" he questioned serious.
"No! No.. What do you want me to do?" She cried out holding onto Amara
"Turn off the light" he demands making Casey jump.
Amara knew Casey didn't want to, but she obeyed, causing Steve to squirm even more, his eyes panicked. Amara, mouthed to Casey telling her to keep him busy as she headed for the kitchen to grab her a knife.
The lights in the living room go out and she hears a loud scream, she rushes back to the living room to see Casey leaning against the patio doors crying out at Steve's now dead body.
She tried not to throw up at the sight of his guts poured out at his feet.
"Final question. Are you ready?"
Casey whimpered not answering as she turned off the lights not standing the sight of Steve. "Please leave me alone. please." She begged.
Amara hands her the kitchen knife as she clutches her own. "Answer the question and I will."
They stood back to back stood waiting for the final question. "What door am I at?"
Amara's heart immediately drops. "Wh- what?" Casey stutters out.
"There are two doors to your house. A front door and back one. If you answer correctly, you live, " he then added a cruel afterthought, "maybe"
Casey looked frantically between the front and back door.
Amara mouthed to her not to take the patio door and tried to drag her to the front door to escape, but Casey refused to move too scared the killer might be on the other side. "He just gutted Steve he has to be back there," she whispers to her.
"Clocks ticking Casey, I'm not getting any younger over here." He mocks.
"Please don't make me I can't. I won't."
A deep chuckle comes through the phone. "Your call."
A second later glass goes everywhere as the patio doors shatters, A chair came crashing through immediately knocking Amara down. Casey lets out an ear shattering scream as she runs out the living room.
Amara is not sure how long she was passed out but As she clutched her head trying to stop the bleeding, a dark figure with a ghost like mask steps through the broken door looking down at her like prey. She tries to get up but quickly falls back down as she sees dark spots in her vision and glass cuts into her hands.
The dark figure slowly walks over until he's standing over her. She tries to get up again, but Is quickly slammed down by a hand around her throat. "Fuck you" she chokes out as he squeezes just a little harder, his mask cocks to the side.
Her eyes go wide as he glides his knife across her face but not hard enough to cut her.
She squirms under him trying to get him off, but he just straddles her putting more weight on her. He slowly but deeply glides his knife across her chest drawing blood.
She lets out a low painful moan. He stops to stare down at her as if mesmerized, taking advantage she tries to kick him in his no touch zone. He predicts her move and catching her thigh gripping it hard before she could make contact. He doesn't let go or move; he just stares into her eyes peering into her soul.
He finally let's go of her thigh and gently but firmly grabs her hair pulling her up to his face, "what do you want from me?" she questions before he slams her head against the wall instantly silencing her he catches her body before it hit the ground picking her up bridal style.
He smiled down at her then to himself, he couldn't believe he finally had her back in his grasp and he didn't plan on letting her go but he knew his partner wouldn't either.
He stared at her for a few more seconds before he hears the sound of glass breaking snapping him out his trance, his partner staring at him with a dead Casey draped over his shoulder. Damn play times over he thought as he turns to his partner showing him Amara.
Casey's body is dropped as if she was worth nothing as the second masked figure walks up to his partner looking down at the beauty. His eyes darken at the blood trail leading down her chest and head.
He looks to his partner angry, "it was an accident." he lies clearing his throat before looking down. His partner didn't believe him for a second.
"Sure it was, give her to me." He says taking Amara from his arms and gently places her down on the couch.
"Grab Casey, we got a job to finish." The masked killer says not taking his eyes off Amara. His partner nods and starts to drag Casey out of the house and to a big oak tree.
The killer lightly brushed pieces of hair out her face. He was so mesmerized by her beauty he didn't want to leave her side, but he knew he had a job to complete. He takes one last look at Amara before joining his partner at the oak tree to gut Casey.
Amara wakes up to Mr. Becker shaking her asking if she's alright and where Casey was. The stench of burnt popcorn burned her nose as she looked around confused as to how she passed out on the couch and why she wasn't dead. She quickly jumps up, "Shit Casey!"
A loud scream has her and Mr. Becker running outside.
Mrs. Becker was on her knees screaming at an object hanging on a tree in the distance. Amara thought it was just the old swing that she and Casey used to swing on as kids but as she gets a closer look, she quickly realizes the object wasn't a tire swing at all.
It was now her dead friend Casey hanging on the tree, hallowed out; her insides all outside on the ground.
Amara loses feeling in her legs as collapses at the sight of her friend. She couldn't believe she lost her.
One question repeated through her mind how and why was she still alive?
