Short 3: Should an Imp Child Go to School?
One afternoon, Amara and Roy are doing a little grocery shopping in the small shopping district near their home. They look around as they try to decide what to have for dinner.
"So Roy, what do you want to have for dinner?" Amara asks.
"I like to have some smoked sausage like we have at home," Roy says.
"Sure. And we can put some vegetables here like potatoes, onions, green beans, bell peppers, and some corn," Amara says.
"Yum!" Roy says, and licks his lips in hunger.
Amara giggles as the two begin to look around. They are at the fruit and vegetable section, and buy the vegetables they need for their dinner. They pick up two packages of smoked sausages. Then they also get some snacks, and other stuff they need for their home. Soon, the two siblings are heading towards the registrar.
"Is that you over there, Amara?" A familiar female voice asks.
Amara and Roy turn over to see a female horned demon with long gray hair, and wears a black skirt, and red blouse.
Recognizing her, Amara says, "Oh, hi Mrs. Mayberry. I didn't expect to see you. Doing some shopping?"
Mayberry walks to Amara and says, "Yes I am. I gotta buy things for dinner tonight. And get my stuff set up for work tomorrow."
"Work huh, where are you working at?" Amara asks.
"Well believe it no. I'm a teacher in Hell too. I'm teaching at an elementary school for young Imps. It's a twenty minute drive from the store though, but it's worth it coming here," Mayberry says.
"Sounds suitable. I remember you telling us you were a school teacher when you were alive too," Amara says.
"That's right," Mayberry says.
She then notices the young Imp looking at her, and hiding behind Amara's leg a little.
"And who is this little guy? I don't remember seeing him before," Mayberry says.
"Oh yeah. He wasn't here when you came to the office, this is my little brother, Roy," Amara says.
She kneels to Roy and says, "Roy, this is Mrs. Mayberry, she was a client at the company."
"Hello. It's a pleasure to meet y'all," Roy says.
"It's nice to meet you too. You look cute," Mrs. Mayberry says.
Then turns to Amara, "You have a very nice brother, but if you mind me asking, how did you get an Imp for a brother?"
"It's okay? It's a bit of a long story. But in short, I was adopted by Imps living in the Wrath Ring. Of course, that was long before Roy was born," Amara says.
"Hmm, I guess you learn something new everyday," Mrs. Mayberry says.
Then asks, "So, are you planning on enrolling Roy to school here?"
"Well, I want to, but well, I'm not sure if the money I make can support it. Plus, well, I won't be around to pick him up as much. It's a difficult thing to say, but my parents died when I was young and I lived with my aunt. When I moved here on my own, Roy decided that he wanted to stay with me. So I let him stay. Still, I'm not sure if I'm going to have the time and or the money to allow him to go there," Amara explains.
"Hmm, that is a problem. But, don't you have your colleagues from your work. Maybe they can give you a hand," Mrs. Mayberry suggests.
"I haven't thought of it, but I'm not sure. But, I'll give it a try," Amara says.
"You should. It's actually easy to enroll him into the school. Of course, you'll need to sign some papers, and such, but you can get him enrolled. Plus, check to see if your colleagues and aunt agree, and…" Mrs. Mayberry says.
Then turns to Roy, "It also depends if you want to go to school."
"Hmm… Well, I'm not sure. I mean, I don't mind school, but like sis said, we might not have the money or the time," Roy says.
Amara turns to Roy, "It's okay. We can still think about it and ask the others and Aunt Eda to see what they think."
The next day in the I.M.P office, Amara and Roy explain their discussion with Blitz and the others.
"So let me see if I have this straight, Mrs Mayberry, our previous client, suggested that you enroll Roy to school here?" Blitz asks.
"Uh yeah. I mean, it will be good for Roy to have some education and it will give him something to do while we're at work. And if it's okay with Loona, she can pick him up once in a while. Or maybe one of you guys can do it?" Amara says.
She then calmly says, "But still, I like to have your opinion on the idea."
"What about you kid, what do you think?" Blitz asks, turning to Roy.
"Well, I don't mind going to school and I kind of like going there with my friends. Even though we do boring reading and such," Roy says.
Then nods his head, "Sure. I don't mind."
"Well, not the answer I expected cause a lot of kids hate school, but that's alright," Blitz says.
Then Moxxie says, "Personally, I think it will be good for Roy to be enrolled. We'll be too busy to be around him, and it will be good for Roy to be around some children his age. Also, there are some displays at work that he should have to deal with."
"I have to agree, especially Blitz's weird displays," Amara says, and turns to Blitz.
Blitz turns to the owlet, "What does that supposed to mean?"
"Well Blitz, for one, you are always swearing, breaking your phone, and three time when you talk to Stolas and put it on speaker, he always opens his beak to say any adult stuff Roy should not hear. You even have Roy tag along with you to spy on homeless people. Also, the books you have and other stuff in your office are very questionable," Amara says.
Blitz angrily says, "Now that's just being fuckin picky!"
"Alright, I could excuse the fact with your stuff and books, but I like if you don't put your speaker on with Roy around if it's Stolas, and try not to swear so much with Roy around or take Roy to see homeless people," Amara says.
"You are sounding like a pain in the ass right now," Blitz says, annoyed.
Then Amara says, "You don't want Roy to pick up on your weird habits."
"She got you there, Blitz," Loona says, typing on her Hellphone.
Moxxie and Millie try to hold their laughter, but quickly whistle tunes when Blitz viciously glaring at them.
Blitz sighs and says, "Fine, we'll help you with the little squirt enrolling to school, but we also take turns picking him up."
"Thank you," Amara says.
Then Moxxie asks, "Uh, remind me why you want us to help? I don't mind helping Amara and Roy with what they need, especially since Amara is seventeen and their legal guardian lives in the Wrath Ring…"
"Because, Amara and Roy are part of our family, and we help the family out, even though we have our own disagreements," Blitz says.
Moxxie angrily says, "I keep telling you, we are not a family! And while we're on that subject, will you stop stalking all of us outside of work!"
"Yeah. And that's also something else that worries me," Amara says.
Roy laughs with a grin on his face, and Amara simply smiles to see Roy happy, even if it is Blitz.
