When Rosemary released her article, the town was flabbergasted to say the least. MY INJURIES WERE NOT AT THE HANDS OF OUR GOVERNOR was a headline that really caught everyone's attention.
I know for a fact that our Governor, Lucas Bouchard was not the reason I was shot. I released an article that exposed the secret his administration was hiding at the time. While yes, this might have angered the Governor, at the time. He is an honest and caring man who would never want to see his friends in pain, which believe me, I was in a lot of.
In my own personal conversation with the Governor, he assured his innocence to me with such sincerity, that I knew I believed him. Then, as any good journalist would do, I looked at the facts. This shooting has brought so much bad press on the Governor, why would it be him? From a logical standpoint it does not make sense. I would encourage you to think over the facts yourself before formulating your stance on the issue.
Since so many have asked, I would like to end this article with an update on my health. My gunshot wound is healed, save the scar it left. That is all thanks to my wonderful doctor, Faith Carter. Her actions are the reason I had no infection. As for my head, as so many of you know, I wear a wig to cover the massive scar that makes its way down my skull. That is healed as well, but I still get headaches quite frequently, which is common for a head injury like mine. I am now enjoying life to its fullest by getting back to the job I love, and by spending time with the people that matter most to me, my husband and daughter. I am so blessed to live in a community where so many care for me, and I would like to thank you all for your prayers
"So…what do you think?"
Elizabeth sighed, "It's a good article, Rosemary."
"I feel like there's a but coming."
"But I don't know. Things just feel off with Lucas."
"Have you talked to him at all since this happened?"
"No."
"That would possibly change your views, Elizabeth. The good man you once knew, the one you had decided would be adequate to marry and a good father for your son, is back. And I don't think he's going anywhere this time."
Lucas heard a knock on the door to his office. "Come in." Henry walked into his office. "Henry, thank you for coming. I need to apologize. I should not have asked you to keep so many unwarranted secrets. It was wrong."
"That it was, but as a man who's made many mistakes, I get it. And I accept your apology. But I owe you one too."
"Hen-"
"Lucas, I should not have accused you so hastily the night of the shooting."
"Henry, it's fine. Really."
"I don't believe for a second that you would ever plot someone's demise. And I'm sorry I ever did."
"So, Henry, how would you feel about rejoining my team?"
"Lucas, it'd be my pleasure." The two men shook hands.
The town's reaction to the article was mixed. Some believed Lucas, taking facts into consideration, that was, until the next day when the Benson Hills Beetle released an article called A REPORT'S SILENT CRY FOR HELP.
Randall Rockwell took what she said in her interview with him, and twisted his own story:
A few days ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with fellow reporter Rosemary Coulter to discuss what happened to her a few weeks ago. As most of you know, she was shot by Governor Bouchard's assistant, Edwin Mitchell. She came to my office to discuss the role of Lucas Bouchard in the shooting. She told me that she believes he's innocent, and that the Governor is an honest man. Well, the Governor hasn't proved his honesty to the people, as far as I'm concerned. And when Mrs. Coulter came to my office, instead of the quick-witted reporter I was used to, I was met by a much quieter and more reserved version of her. Which makes me wonder, what is Mrs. Coulter holding back? I think there's more to the story. Perhaps she isn't allowed to say more. Perhaps…she's being threatened to keep her silence. By whom? Maybe the "honest" governor. This is all just speculation, of course, but one might wonder: does Mrs. Coulter have more to say? Was this interview her silent cry for help?...
Rosemary took a deep breath and walked in the saloon. She hated it there, but she needed to talk to him. She knocked on the door to Lucas's office. "Who is it?" said Henry.
"Rosemary."
"Come in." Rosemary sat down at the chair on the other side of the desk.
"I wanted to thank you for your article," said Lucas. "I think it might've helped the town's opinion of me."
"Did you read Randall's article?"
"Not yet." She put the article on his desk. "I should've never taken that interview.
"I should not have done this interview." Lucas finished reading the article and sighed, handing it to Henry. "You were just trying to help. Maybe the people don't believe this one."
"Oh, I wish. When I walked down the street today, people looked at me like I was a scared little girl. I was so uncomfortable. He twisted what I said. And the reason I was quiet? My headaches were really bad that day. It was so hard to think, or talk, but I knew I had to go, defend your name. If I would have known he was going to do this…"
"It's not your fault, Rosemary."
"I'm not going to respond to these accusations until my testimony in the trial," said Rosemary.
"That would probably be for the best," said Henry.
"Thank you for showing me this Rosemary. I need to call my lawyer."
"I will leave you to it."
