Hikari Meiji Supplementary School (光明治補習学校)
Inner Thoughts
With summer vacation over, I entered the second trimester and began attending the "Meiji" supplementary school, where Onii-sama used to go. Naturally, I had high expectations.
The school's reputation as an elite institution was well-founded, filled with students from top-tier private and national schools. It was completely different from the schools I attended in my previous life, which had only pamphlets to their name.
At the moment, we are only learning Japanese and arithmetic, so following the lessons isn't a problem. In fact, this feeling of invincibility is incredible.
One of the reasons I chose this supplementary school was, of course, for academic preparation for the future. However, an even more important, albeit less obvious reason was...
The ability to eat sweets.
After my usual lessons at Zui'ran, the Kisshouin family's personal chauffeur did his job perfectly. He would drop me off at the classroom door just before classes started and pick me up punctually at the end.
As you might imagine, my freedom of movement was nil. I had no opportunity to venture freely.
Moreover, I couldn't go out alone; I was always under someone's supervision. But what really worried me was my inability to satisfy my craving for sweets at will.
If you want to laugh at my gluttony, go ahead and laugh.
But!
Every day I was given top-quality sweets, and my meals were always akin to dining at a high-class restaurant.
I'm grateful, you know? But eating such delicious meals every day gets boring, you know?
But this plebeian tongue from my former life craves junk food. My longed-for desire is to eat simple things like tsukemono with plain white rice. My stubborn self really wants to eat leftovers baked into bread!
And then I started thinking:
"Wouldn't it be okay if I went to a class where I didn't have an assistant?"
The supplementary school has a Japanese class and then an arithmetic class; between those two classes, there's a break, you know?
"Couldn't I use that time to sneak out and buy snacks?" I thought.
If possible, I hoped the school would be close to a convenience store. Though if I sneak out too often, the school teachers might consider it a problem and report it to my parents, so I have to be careful.
I'll only buy things small enough to fit between my prep books and in my backpack. There's no way I'll get greedy and try to buy something as big as a bag of chips. Even the small packs are bulky because of the air inside.
And someday, I will also buy my longed-for onigiri.
Every time I started daydreaming about it, I found it impossible to stop. That's why I wanted to go to a supplementary school, no matter what.
Fortunately for me, there was a convenience store about 2 or 3 minutes away on foot.
"How convenient!"
I remember the first things I bought were two Tyrolean chocolates and some caramel. Obviously, according to school rules, I couldn't leave with my backpack, so I limited myself to buying things that would fit in my pockets, in addition to the "bribe" for my unusual situation.
We only have a fifteen-minute break, so I had to hurry back.
The next two-hour class wasn't very pleasant, but I was thoughtful all day—well, just a little. When I got home, the Tyrolean chocolate I secretly ate in my room tasted so nostalgic it made me cry.
I took the time to slowly enjoy the other Tyrolean chocolate and the eight pieces of caramel.
"Cheap food, banzai!"
As a newcomer and a student of the famous Zui'ran, I couldn't sneak away due to the initial attention.
For now, I attend school once a week, and it took two months since I started attending before I could finally sneak away to the convenience store.
Although it may sound strange, on each of my outings, without fail, I encountered the famous gatekeeper "Sasaki Koujirou." Despite having the name of a legendary figure from feudal Japan, he really looked at me gently before making a joke, which has become a fun routine between us by now.
As a proud ojou-sama, I tried my best to make a good impression on him. However, my attempts were in vain, and soon I found myself "bribing" him with a dango to mitigate the consequences of my escapades, which genuinely seemed to please him.
He resembles a samurai swordsman, with his indigo hair tied in a ponytail and his deep indigo eyes. It's curious how no one has reprimanded him for his out-of-place attire, as he always wears traditional umanori hakama and a light purple kimono. He also carries a sword on his back that could very well be authentic.
Why would someone carry that?
Always serious but kind, he would greet me with, "Hello, Reika-chan. What brings you out of school on such a beautiful day?"
Being a Kisshouin, I tried to play my role perfectly, refusing to be swayed by his kind demeanor, though he seems to perfectly understand the reasons behind my "adventures." I often try to come up with excuses, but it's evident he already suspects my intentions. I curse myself for giving in to the temptation of sugar!
On one occasion, while laughing softly, Kojirou-san teased me: "It seems you're a girl with a guilty pleasure for sweets, huh? On your way to becoming a sweet princess?"
Every time I headed to the store, I reflected on the uniqueness of Sasaki Kojirou-san's existence. Although he seems familiar in some way, I don't recall his involvement in any of the original "Kimidol" plots.
"There's definitely something intriguing about him..." I thought, promising myself to explore this mystery later.
Zui'ran Academy
Petite Pivoine Section
This autumn has been filled with exciting school events like the sports festival and preparations for the "Exclusive Presentation," making it an extremely busy season for me. In my past life, I may have participated in a piano recital, but that experience wasn't enough to prepare me for this, as trying to maintain my dignity as Reika Kisshouin only added more agitation to my days.
Do you know?
It was fascinating to watch Sétanta-san, a renowned Olympic coach, playing the role of event organizer. Dressed in a full-body ultramarine suit, he stood out among the enthusiastic participants. Not only did he motivate them with his presence, but he also offered valuable advice and cast meaningful looks at those who exhibited unsportsmanlike behavior or questionable methods.
The most intriguing thing was his skill with the wooden spear he always had on hand. He used it both to guide students in their training between classes and to earn their respect. There was a rumor that no one could surpass the intensive personalized training sessions with the "Hound of Culann," as he was known among the young sports prodigies.
Definitely, if I didn't know this life was a shōjo manga version of Kimidol, having someone like Setanta-san would make me reconsider the genre to Shonen or at least Spokon. I wasn't the only one who thought he used his skills masterfully; even the King of Knights approached to speak with him for a moment, but it was Yamamoto-sama's defeated look that made me understand something negative had happened.
What's going on with this whole plot?
Additionally, I found it curious how his name resembled that of a character from Celtic mythology. Although this coincidence caught my attention, I opted not to delve deeper into it, as I was still reflecting on the possibility that the coach might be a new irregular character.
Even when Sétanta-san himself approached me to give me advice on how to control my breathing before my relay race. His experience and knowledge were evident, so I definitely plan to give him some kind of gift later, as I will consider following his recommendations in the future.
On the other hand, as expected, Kaburagi-kun and Tohsaka-kun, the two best male students in our grade, shone at the festival. Not only did they surpass some of the most promising recommended students in their own sports, but they also significantly increased their popularity, even among the upper grades.
But the most impressive was the Kyūdō event, where the "King of Knights" proved to be a legendary archer. I witnessed an arrow splitting another from an incredible distance. It was a perfect and unique spectacle.
Even Onii-sama was kind enough to explain Yamamoto-sama's feats to me, though I must admit I didn't fully understand.
I apologize for being an airhead!
But there were other highlights, like the dazzling Yosakoi of our beloved Miko Tohsaka-sama. Dressed in a white and red kimono, she gracefully and beautifully performed the traditional Japanese dance, leaving everyone impressed by her elegance.
"She truly is worthy of being one of the three beauties of Zui'ran Academy!"
Moreover, Ilya-chan participated in the relay race and proved to be surprisingly fast and resilient despite being a bit smaller than me. It was exciting to see her run so swiftly.
Unfortunately, this time I couldn't stand out as the heroine of our class. However, Ilya-chan cheered me on, and I promised to work harder next year in other areas.
Now, after so much physical effort, we are still continuing with the preparations for Presentation Day at Zui'ran, which is somewhat like a cultural festival. You can imagine that this place will be decorated with art created by the students, and we'll have a choir contest and a small 'bazaar', among other things.
For me, preparing for Presentation Day was much more difficult than the sports festival, so to replenish my energy, I would snack in the Petite Pivoine whenever I was handling my own preparations.
Being able to eat sweets on school grounds is truly a special privilege.
Here, I can relax, especially since lately, in the classroom, everything has been focused on the choir program or the artworks that each class has been creating. The class artworks get more difficult as you advance in grade, so it's challenging.
It seems that in the upper years of the primary section, they even create dioramas and things like that.
"Reika-san, today we have Pierre Evan macarons. Would you like some?"
"Oh my goodness! I definitely would!"
This person is a fourth-year Onee-sama, Mitsuzuti Ayako-sama.
Knowing a large number of upper-grade female students, Ayako-sama is someone very peculiar even by Zui'ran standards. She has short hair and a slightly masculine appearance, giving the impression that she might have grown up to be the lead male actor in an all-female theater company somewhere.
She told me she belongs to the Kyūdō club, where she has become quite close to the King of Knights. She shared some gossip about him and mentioned that she will soon go abroad for an upcoming tournament against her fiercest rival, the famous Greek archer 'Atalanta'. She didn't give me more details, only that Atalanta has 'very quick feet', but she definitely plans to be there to witness the confrontation.
In the end, she even commented on having seen me dance my incredible waltz with Onii-sama at the summer party. Perhaps this last point cemented her good terms with me.
Apparently, seeing me giving my all in dancing was 'cute'. I'm grateful she feels that way.
She even said things like, "You have such a kind Onii-sama. I'm so jealous! Why can't Yamamoto learn from him?" Although I didn't know where she got it, she gave me a photo of Onii-sama and me ringing the bell as a gift. It turns out a friend of Ayako-sama was there to take the photo.
"You two looked like such a lovely couple, so I thought I'd give you a picture later," she said.
Onii-sama, a kind Onee-sama decided we were a couple, you know?
I thought it would be an unnecessary and huge embarrassment if this information reached Kaburagi Masaya and Tohsaka Shuusuke, but when one door closes, another opens, right?
"But there's a big problem with Ayaka-sama. And that is…
"Sakura, this macaron is only available for a limited time. Don't you think it's as delicious as the ones cooked by Yamamoto?"
Indeed. Ayaka-sama is a good friend of Sakura-sama.
"Mmm... then maybe I'll try just one more. How about you two, Masaya, Shuusuke?"
"I think I'll have one."
"Hmm, I think I'll pass."
The spot beside Sakura-sama is almost always occupied by Kaburagi, displaying a firm expression of "I love SAKURA". I may not know the details behind the friendship between the two Onee-samas, but the way they call each other and behave is definitely very close. So why am I telling you all this? Because it turns out that recently, there is a first-year student Ayaka-sama has taken a liking to: me.
So I'm in a pretty dangerous position.
The Emperor basically pays no attention to anyone other than the people he's interested in, so until now, he has completely ignored me.
But this time, when Tohsaka-kun said, "Oh, aren't you the girl from the summer party who danced the waltz in the middle of the dance floor?", it was no surprise that the Emperor said, "Ah... you again!" and looked at me boredly.
Tohsaka Shuusuke, don't say unnecessary things!
"Masaya, are you making sure to properly help with your class presentation?"
"…Well, I'm doing what I can."
"That's not good enough. You have to do it well," Sakura-sama's smile was unwavering, but she let out a tired sigh.
"Ahh... mn."
"What kind of answer is that?" she took out her phone for a moment before smiling gracefully, "We're meeting Shirou-kun after class. You know what to do, right?"
"I get it already. You're so noisy, Sakura."
"How many times have I told you a little guy like you shouldn't be so arrogant! What was that?"
"It's a joke," the Emperor lowered his head a little, angry and even jealous upon hearing the affectionate nickname for the King of Knights. "God, I'm sorry. It's just that you get angry so easily."
I looked at them secretly from the side while chewing on a macaron.
Despite his abusive language, for a 7-year-old, he looks pretty happy, doesn't he? I couldn't help but think I had discovered an unexplored side of the manga.
"I see, I see. So that's what you like?"
The Emperor is always smiling when he talks to Sakura-sama. He shows so many expressions, like a completely different person from the bored and expressionless Emperor I knew at the start of the canon.
God, look, isn't he blushing too? Hey, your love is showing, you know?
While watching this incredibly amusing Emperor, I met Tohsaka-kun's eyes. Sorry, I won't look anymore. However, I will continue to eavesdrop on their flirting.
Anyway, amidst all that, my busy but peaceful autumn was unfolding.
I'm not quite sure how to feel about this, as I'm not accustomed to writing such brief pieces, but I'm satisfied with the outcome at least.
Due to the demands of my new role as head of the medical department, I sincerely hope you enjoyed the chapter: "Autumn and Sugar-coated Days". I'm not sure what you thought, but I can reveal that in the next chapter, we will finally explore the explanation behind Shirou, Rin, Sakura, and Ilya and what they think of this world, so stay tuned.
