Sting in The Tail
Swinging rapidly to the Upper West Side Docks Spider-Boy pondered, wondering what had caused this latest rampage from the manic Scorpion.
'Urgh, knowing Gargan it's nothing special.' He thought bitterly. 'This'll be the third time I've fought him and naturally he'll just be doing it for kicks as per usual.'
Grimacing at the obvious crazy nature of Scorpion and his inability to seemingly control his violent impulses, Spider-Boy continued on his way, getting very close to the docks now, he had to make sure he could see what the situation was before swinging in. He swung up to the top of a nearby crane and perched on top of it.
'Whoa, still feels weird doing all this, even if it has been a while since I gained my powers.' Jake thought warily. 'Still, gotta stay focused on this, can't let Scorpion continue to run wild.'
Perched on top of the crane, Spider-Boy looked around carefully, the docks seemed to be fine at first glance but a more careful look confirmed what he heard. Several shipping containers were broken open, their sides melted and their contents thrown about, it made him curious as something was a bit off at that.
'Not looking for money or valuables, those containers are pretty transparent about their contents and he busted them open anyway?' Spider-Boy noted. 'What are you up to, Gargan, this is beyond your usual break things and steal for money and kicks...you're looking for something.'
That was when he heard the noise and sure enough, at that moment, from a nearby building, Scorpion burst out and landed on the ground, looking around.
Scorpion was clearly a sight to behold, a tall and dangerous man clad in a green armoured body suit specifically designed to replicate the appearance, mostly, of the creature who's name he bore, complete with a long and very fast tail equipped not only with a stinger but also a means of firing his poison from it. The red eye lenses that covered his eyes gleamed as he looked around, growling to himself.
"Where is it." He snarled.
Spider-Boy bit his lip. 'Okay, he is actually looking for something, that makes this interesting.'
He watched as Scorpion leapt to another container and fired a blast of his poison at it to burst open the side of the container and began checking it. Deciding now would be a good time to drop in, Spider-Boy did just that. Landing on the ground he looked up and quipped.
"Why, Scorpion, fancy seeing you here."
Scorpion whirled around and tried to fire a blast of his poison, but Spider-Boy was forewarned by his Spider-Sense and quickly dodged the blast easily.
"Butt out, Web-Head." He snapped. "You have no business here."
Spider-Boy stood up straight and replied. "Funny, I could say the same about you, what's a guy like you doing wandering around the docks, you've got no reason to be here."
Scorpion snarled but instead of answering, he lunged for Spidey, his suit equipped with claws, he was attempting to slash at the Arachnid Hero, but again missed thanks to the early warning provided by the Spider-Sense.
Landing on his feet, Spider-Boy quickly shot a web burst to strike at Scorpion's tail and face, temporarily blinding the unhinged man and temporarily blunting his worst weapon.
"One chance, Gargan, what's going on here!?" He called out as he shot out a web line.
Striking Gargan with it he used it to reel himself in quickly and land a hard punch, followed by a series of punches and kicks before having to dodge as Scorpion freed himself and began to fight back.
"You have no idea, ha, pathetic...and you're supposed to be some sort of hero." Scorpion mocked. "I was looking for something that's newly arrived, something big, something powerful, something that'll help me get out of this suit and then...I'll become something even greater."
Hearing that admittedly unnerved Spider-Boy but he pulled himself together.
Instead of worrying out loud, he quipped. "Oh, really and where did you get that from?"
"You don't know, I just told you." Scorpion burst out. "You don't know anything about it, some hero, not knowing about threats to the city."
"Threat, what is that-?"
"I said it already, it's powerful, beyond anything you can imagine." Scorpion hissed. "It's back."
That confused Spider-Boy even more but not enough for him to lower his guard, he easily dodged Scorpion's second attempted attack.
He knew however that he had to hurry, time was limited and so he waited for the right moment and quickly dodged another attack from Scorpion, this time using his webbing to stick Scorpion's tail to a nearby wall.
"You-!"
"Sorry big guy, but I'm in a rush, all that cryptic stuff from you, I think you've officially lost it now." Spider-Boy countered. "So I'm sorry, but...gotta finish this,"
Scorpion snapped. "Nice try!"
He pulled himself free and tried to attack with his tail again, only to find that he couldn't shoot his poison due to the webbing now all bunging it up. That momentary distraction gave Spider-Boy the opening he needed and he quickly swung in and delivered a swing kick to send Scorpion into the air. While up there he proceeded to daze Scorpion with several more quick strikes and then, acting quickly, more webbing to prevent Scorpion from lashing out with his tail, as well as nullifying the stinger and finally, securing Scorpion with even more webbing, leaving him stuck the leg of one of the construction cranes, leaving him pinned and finally, after what felt like far too long for Spider-Boy's liking, leaving him helpless. To his relief the fight was over quickly, although he felt a little wary about just how quickly, that part felt like something was a little off, but he would take any win he could get right about now.
Catching his breath, Spider-Boy shrugged.
"Well, sorry it came to this, Gargan. But it's business as usual."
Scorpion simply let out an angry incoherent series of noises, struggling.
With a casual laugh, Spider-Boy turned. "Don't worry, cops will be here soon, try to behave yourself in jail this time."
With that he swung away, considering Scorpion's strange behaviour.
'What was that all about, what on earth was he looking for...and why was he so obsessed with it. I know he wants out of that suit but...still, to go that crazy over it…' He wondered to himself. 'There's gotta be something else here, something I'm not seeing and what did he mean by, it's powerful, beyond anything you can imagine. I don't like that. I also don't like the thought of him being in a regular jail cell with the other normal criminals, we need something else for guys like him, some kind of supermax prison or something, something designed to keep those guys in prison until they can be rehabilitated.'
Shaking his head Spider-Boy swung away until he stopped on a rooftop and began catching his breath again. He had to admit, it was hard to face the damage caused by people like Scorpion. Nevertheless, it was over and he was now free to carry on.
'Or not.' He realized. 'Crap, that took longer than I thought, I'm gonna be late for school.'
He immediately took off running and began swinging as quickly as he could, desperate to get to school before it was too late, he was already in trouble for being late twice this week already.
'Please let me make it in time.' He thought desperately.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
