Toppling the Kingpin
Jessica was certain she was doomed, Kingpin was already huge and could easily have crushed her, empowered by a Symbiote, he would be even worse. Before he could strike however, he was hit with a blast of webbing in the face, a web line also attached to his fists and pulled him away from her. At the same time, she saw Jake's parents were already there, by her side and pulling her back to her feet and out of the way, to safety. By the time the fear had dropped to a normal level again the Avengers were all surrounding and preparing to fight the Kingpin, who was back on his feet, freed from the webs and snarling. It seemed the Symbiote had such a grip on him that he couldn't even articulate anymore. That boded ill for them, they were sure of that.
"Guys, what about a plan?" Wasp asked.
Black Panther shook his head. "Normally, with Kingpin, you can trick him into charging you and then stun him, leaving him vulnerable to actual attacks…"
"But like this, he's not gonna fall for that." Spider-Boy continued. "Really, the only plan we have right now is fight or die."
That left all of them, even those not directly involved in the fight, feeling a cold chill of fear running up their spines.
They soon realized why the usual tactics wouldn't work as, instead of charging them, the Symbiote launched tentacle strikes at them, showing remarkable speed for such a long range.
"Not good, not good." White Tiger muttered.
They managed to dodge but it was clear this was just a distraction, as he then suddenly launched himself into an attack, tackling Wasp against a wall and punched a hole in said wall, narrowly missing her head as she moved it, but she couldn't avoid the follow up attack, a blow to the stomach, sending her coughing before being thrown halfway down the street before beginning to charge towards her again.
"Hey." Spider-Boy signalled Black Panther.
He nodded and Spider-Boy readied a web-line with Black Panther catching the other end and they quickly set it up. Before Kingpin could even reach Wasp he reached the web-line, set up like a trip wire, and instantly stumbled and fell. The Symbiote acted to keep him from impacting with the ground, which gave them another opening. Iron-Man and Iron-Girl used the sonic blasters that Dr. Connors had given them to attack. The Symbiote writhed as Kingpin roared and screamed. Acting quickly Blue Beetle joined the sonic attack while White Tiger helped Wasp to her feet. Soon their plan took effect and the Symbiote was separated from Kingpin who Spider-Boy quickly yanked up and left hanging upside down from a web while Black Panther used the fire weapon Dr. Connors gave them to finish the Symbiote off.
They quickly regrouped, gasping for breath.
Speed Demon spoke up. "We need to finish this, quickly. The core."
Batgirl nodded. "Got it."
With that she hurried over and soon destroyed it, causing the dome to rupture and those infected had been released, the rest of the Upside-Down creatures shrieked and writhed as they dissolved, the threat passing as they finally were able to relax for a moment.
"This was, oh God…" Robin muttered.
Spider-Boy grimaced. "Yeah, this is getting worse. We...we need to regroup with Jonathan and Nancy."
"Already here."
They turned to see the duo arriving, allowing them to relax a bit more.
"Alright, things are clearly building, Venom is definitely gearing up for his main offensive, definitely trying to really start his invasion." Spider-Boy continued.
The others all nodded, looking to him, even the adults. Each Avenger found their respective beloved and parents gravitating to their side, except for Spider-Boy at this moment, Mike, Will and Jess stood a little off to the side, watching as he spoke in detail to them.
"What do we do now?" Blue Beetle asked.
Spider-Boy sighed. "That's the problem, I'm not sure...we don't really have a way to find Venom, or any of his main allies. Until they make a move, we're really flying blind."
Terry spoke up then. "So...we're stuck waiting for our enemy to do something?"
"Afraid so, that or Dr. Connors contacts us." Spider-Boy summed up. "So...I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do here."
They all nodded, while tense due to the limitations on what they could do.
With the speech over, Mike, Will and Jess moved up close to Spider-Boy and he finally allowed himself to relax. Seeing no other options at the moment, the group all split up, so as not to draw any real attention, they were all making their way back to their base to get some rest and recover after their gruelling battle. The whole time they made their return, they all dwelled on their concerns and fears, worried about what their next move would be, or what their enemies would do before they could act. Their worst fears were of course, that Venom would discover their plan before it was ready and thwart it. Everything was depending on it.
