Saving the World, Saving Hearts

Now onto the story.

Venom
Spider-Boy grimaced, horrified at the sudden ambush. He knew of course that Venom was around and would be likely to attack at any moment, but he never anticipated this. Worse, it happened at this exact location, looking out of the corner of his eye to see that a number of civilians were still around and more than a few were frozen in horror, some were running. But one of those not running was, to Spider-Boy's horror, Jessica.
'No...no what are you doing, run!' He thought in a panic.
"I see you've been having fun with my new minions, little spider." Venom taunted. "We prepared them for you after finding ourselves in that realm, dominating those creatures was so easy. Now we stand before you, reborn."
Spider-Boy tried to buy some time, hopefully those frozen in fear would recover and run. "You know why you were sealed away, you can't just...please, Harry, this isn't you, you were supposed to overcome this, it-"
"Harry, you know Harry is no more!" Venom snarled angrily. "WE ARE VENOM!"
With that he lunged and Spider-Boy tensed. "No."
It was too soon, he had not wanted this to happen, not yet. He luckily managed to intercept Venom's attempted attack and used his webs to spin Venom around and throw him against a nearby building. Venom grunted at the impact but with a roar Venom flailed and sent rubble from the building falling. It was at that point nearly everyone fled.
Everybody that was, except for Jessica, she seemed to still be frozen, looking up in horror and awe, she was right in line with the falling rubble.
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no!" Spider-Boy cried out.
He quickly swung down and just in time managed to scoop her out of the way.
"Wh-what?" Jessica gasped.
Spider-Boy quickly spoke. "You're okay, miss, hold on."
Jessica stared at him in shock, then relief, but it was short lived. She cried out in horror as she looked over his shoulder. At the same time, Spider-Boy felt his Spider-Sense practically blaring. He twisted out of the way, just in time as a section of rubble came flying by, a quick glance showed it was Venom who had thrown it at them and was laughing.
"Always a weakness of yours, Spider." Venom taunted. "Saving all those worthless creatures when all they do is get in the way."
With that he leapt straight at Spider-Boy, just as he had set Jessica down and quickly launched himself at Venom too. They clashed briefly but while trying to attack Venom, the Symbiote dodged and fired his own web attack. It also missed, but impacted with another section of a building, breaking it and the rubble was falling down towards Jessica again. She tried to run but she wasn't going to make it.
"No!"
This time he did the only thing he could and quickly used his webs to catch the rubble and stop them from impacting. Seeing this Jessica managed to quickly get out of the way, now that she had much more time.
"Oh, what's this?" Venom remarked.
The tone of his voice sent chills up Spider-Boy's spine.
There was no denying it, Spider-Boy had been giving away how he really felt about Jessica and Venom had seen it. He had seen the way Spider-Boy had been defending Jessica and caught on to how he was doing so. As such Spider-Boy knew now that Venom would certainly target her.
"So...you care for this one...We could have fun with that." Venom remarked with wicked glee.
"Don't you dare touch her!" Spider-Boy yelled suddenly.
With that he threw himself at Venom and began pummelling him at least until Venom fired back and threw some punches of his own, leaving Spider-Boy in pain before he was thrown onto a rooftop and left to slide along it briefly before managing to stop himself. Coughing and trying to focus he made his way painfully to his feet.
"We thought you were smarter than this, little Spider." Venom taunted as he perched on the edge of the roof. "You know saying that, doing the things you're doing, that makes us want to hurt the girl even more...You may have trapped us, but that just made us more powerful, we are now the Dark Emperor and we will get what we want."
Spider-Boy grimaced, a feeling of fear and worry growing within him as he saw that Venom did indeed look more powerful, just as the Upside-Down creatures had shown signs of Symbiote infection. Venom meanwhile showed that, within his Symbiote, were the signs of tendril like veins that characterised the Upside Down.
That was when Venom looked over and laughed.
"Well, well, where does the girl think she's going?" He remarked gleefully.
He began to leap away, about to swing after Jess. Spider-Boy reacted at once and launched himself after him. He quickly managed to tackle Venom, just in time to see Jess getting away, much to his relief. He focused his attack on Venom some more until suddenly, something hit him in the side and sent him sprawling to the ground. Groaning he pulled himself to his feet and looked, but he saw nothing, whatever had hit him hadn't left a mark, so it wasn't Venom's claws or fangs thankfully. He focused once more on Venom who landed on the ground and laughed darkly.
"Perfect." He said disturbingly.
Before anything else could happen, another voice cut in that caught their attention.
"Well, well, look what the cat dragged in."
Venom looked around, startled and for the first time, seemed something other than confident. Spider-Boy felt elation and hope, despite being outclassed before, now he was sure he had a chance. For at that moment the rest of the Avengers revealed themselves, they had arrived and soon took up their positions around him, now they all stood ready to face him. But Venom seemed to recover and laugh.
"Oh, this is just the beginning, little Avengers." He said. "We will finish this another day, just know, you are already too late."
With that he left, surprising them all, the only thing they knew for certain was, he had something planned.
