Burglars (most likely assassins hired by Gihren and Kycilia Zabi) break into the Mass homestead in Spain in response to Jimba Ral's attempt to work with Anaheim Electronics to plan an armed counteroffensive against the Zabis, which ended with the death of Jimba Ral and Teabolo having been seriously injured in the attack. A gesture of good faith, Shou Yashima of the Yashima Company allows the Mass family to emigrate to the company-owned Texas Zone colony in Side 5 (Loum Province) (L1). There, they meet the colony's administrators, the Aznables, and their son, Char Aznable, who's identical to Edouard Mass (aka Casval Rem Deikun).

The ZMF begins the development of new weapons for use within a Minovsky particle field.

The Minovsky-Ionescu compact fusion reactor is completed.

Gihren Zabi proclaims his "Survival of the Selected" theory.

The EFF commissions the FF-S3 Saberfish space fighter and adopts the 9×19mm Colt M71A1 as its general issue sidearm.

Glemy Toto is born in Side 3 (Zeon Province) (L2) as a test-tube baby created from the insemination of a Newtype woman's egg with Gihren Zabi's sperm as part of Zeon's research into Newtypes.

The EFF begins development of the RX-75 Guntank, combining aspects of the RTX-65 Guntank Early Tank and the FF-X7 Core Fighter with stolen plans of the MS-05 Zaku I.

Astraia Tor Deikun passes away in her sleep from a terminal illness while under state custody by the Zabis.

Grief-stricken from his mother's death, Edouard Mass assumes the identity of Char Aznable and enrolls in the ZMF officer training school at the Guardian Banchi colony in Side 3 (L2) with the goal of infiltrating the Republic of Zeon through the ranks and killing the entire Zabi family as an act of revenge for the assassination of his father Zeon Zum Deikun. The real Char Aznable is then killed in a starship bombing arranged by assassins under the Zabis' payroll who mistake him as Casval Rem Deikun.

Alvenica Kiest's father, a New Summer Project (NSP) terrorist, is killed in action.

Quentin and Walter Fermo, Gyunei Guss, and Kikka Kitamoto [Kobayashi] are born.

An EFF Salamis-class light cruiser patrolling in Side 3 (Zeon Province) (L2) ignores traffic control and crashes into a passenger ship. The debris destroys one of the colony's agricultural blocks. The incident was deplored by members of the Zeon Diet, who decried Federation's continued abuse of power and publicly recalled Zeon Zum Deikun's demands for independence. Riots began in Side 3 (Zeon Province) (L2) Bunch 1 (Zum City), which were violently suppressed by the Federation garrison from the Guardian Banchi colony.

The Dawn Rebellion; In response to the growing unrest in Zum City, the ZMF officer training school's senior cadets decide to take matters to their own hands. Led by Cadet Lts. Garma Zabi and Char Aznable, approximately two hundred ZMF cadets attack the EFF Guardian Banchi garrison with captured RTX-65 Guntank Early Types and Type-61 MBTs, forcing the EFF regimental commander and his staff to surrender. This incident further escalates tensions between the Earth Federation and the Autonomous Republic of Zeon.

Publicly, the Dawn Rebellion was celebrated by the citizens of the Republic of Zeon with a ticket tape parade for Garma, Char, and their fellow cadets as well as granting tribute to the fallen cadets by having their portraits carried in the cars trailing behind Garma. However, Federation officials denounced the Rebellion, demanding the cadets be punished and Garma Zabi handed over to them. Sovereign Protector Degwin Sodo Zabi interrupted the meeting, apologizing for the Federation's losses and promising to ensure the cadets were properly disciplined. To prevent any further incidents Degwin demanded that the Federation relinquish their military assets in Side 3 to Zeon's control and withdraw their forces.

Dozle Zabi marries Zenna Mia, who was a cadet who participated in the Dawn Rebellion.

The Riah Revolution; A Nationalist faction seizes control of the local military force in Side 6 (Riah Province) (L4), inciting a civil war with Federation loyalists. The ZMF backs the Nationalists, deploying a squad of MS-05B Zaku I and blockading the EFF. The Nationalists wins and Side 6 declares independence as the Riah Republic.

The EFF begins experimenting with the Minovsky Craft System (MCS).

Char Aznable first meets Lalah Sune at a Indian brothel during one of his leaves from the ZMF, and becomes infatuated with her and her Newtype abilities. Through Char, Lalah becomes a test pilot for the ZMF and brought for further study into her abilities in the Newtype labs.

The ZMF rolls out the prototype MS-05A Zaku II First Mass Production Type. It doesn't go through its intended mass production as the unit's abilities prove to be inadequate.

Gihren Zabi officially becomes Supreme Commander of the ZMF.

The ZMF begins the mass production of the MS-06C Zaku II. It will make up the majority of their mobile suit force at the outset of the One Year War.

The EFF begins development of the RCX-76 Guncannon First Type, a prototype middle-range support mobile suit intended to look more humanoid than the Guntank, having actual legs for increased mobility instead of tank treads.

The Battle of Mare Smythii; ZMF agents discover that Dr. Torenov Y. Minovsky and other defected Zeon scientists has provided recent information of new Zeon mobile suits to the Federation's MS development project. A small ZMF Space Attack Force force of 5 MS-05 Zaku Is, consisting of Captain Ramba Ral, 2nd Lt. Char Aznable, and the "Black Tri-Stars", are sent to Mare Smythii on the Moon with the mission to detain and/or terminate Minovsky and his comrades, who are escorted by Federation forces to Anaheim Electronics HQ, Von Braun City. They engage the EFF Iron Cavalry Squadron, consisting of 12 RCX-76-02 Guncannon First Types, which are all destroyed by the Zeon forces. Torenov Y. Minovsky is killed amidst the chaos.

The EFF begins reevaluation of the RCX-76 Guncannon First Type following the Battle of Mare Smythii, when it's discovered that the MS's specifications lacked proper versality compared to Zeon's mobile suits.

Monica [Arno], Micott Bartsch, Layla Bias, and Takuya Irei are born.

Levan Fuu is released from the Federation Newtype research lab after its head, Monica Humphrey, arranges for his discharge. Due to the experiments brought onto him for fifteen years, Fuu suffers from brain damage, losing the ability to speak normally and given a prognosis of having only a year left to live.
