They were back at S-FIT.
"We made a theory that Atari's in the basement again. Apparently that room is secret. Only two members of the scientific department know the location." Moniqa revealed.
The place was completely empty in regards to living personnel. but it was definitely teeming with corpses around every corner. After passing dead soldier number 15, Copen decided to see what their cause of death was. Upon inspecting the back, Copen found what appeared to be a massive burn mark in the shape of a sword tip.
"That's definitely not from someone we know of. Viper doesn't have a sword attack. Crimm only uses explosions and that Dacite chracter wouldn't be capable of weilding a sword either." Copen rambled.
"We'd better hope that's not what happened to Atari." Lumen whispered.
"Well let's freakin' go!" Zeno rushed as he ran ahead of the group.
It didn't take them too much longer to reach the laser traps. One of the lasers made a burn mark on Zeno's right boot. The constant trudging was nothing new to Copen. Gunvolt was managing to keep a constant jog. All while Zeno never felt worse. Not because of all the legwork, not entirely anyways. But what Lumen said was starting to worry him. The drop down wasn't as long as expected. Although the knockback from the recoil was pretty unexpected. It didn't take much further for them to reach the room they were looking for.
"Looks like they repaired the door. We'll have to find another way in." Copen noticed.
Looking around the door for any potential weak points in the door, Zeno found something. There appeared to be a flat spot to scan for biometrics and ID.
"Allow me." Zeno grinned as he placed his right thumb above the biometric scanner.
"Biometric ID scanned. No match found. Access denied." the machine informed in a female voice.
Zeno decided to repeat this proccess another three times before Copen finally intervened.
"Let me try." Copen spoke as he walked over, waved a card over the reader and placed his thumb in front of the biometric scanner.
"Authorized staff member, lead researcher." the machine stated as it opened the door.
Atari was lying out cold on the floor horizontally. Her legs stretched out and hands near her head. Zed was still floating a foot in the air, now two feet away from Atari. Everyone's faces turned into scowls.
"Thank goodness you stole that ID card." Zeno commented.
"It wasn't stolen, we shouldn't even be having this conversation right now Zeno. What did you do Zed?" Copen warned.
"I merely visited this facility to ensure some information was correct. I'm certain you would do the same." Zed answered.
"What information are you talking about?" Copen interrogated.
"You'll see soon enough." Zed declared.
He teleported away, leaving everyone to wonder what exactly he was plotting.
"We'd better get Atari and leave." Gunvolt recommended.
"Yeah." Zeno agreed.
They took her back to QUILL HQ so she could get checked out.
"She seems to be fine. I don't see any signs that someone would've tampeed with her. It's best you take her with you and get some rest." Mr. Shino notified.
Zeno nodded sadly. Once he got back, Zeno made sure Atari slept on the couch while he continued his nightly nap on the floor. The following morning, Zeno woke up extra early to make sure Atari was still there. He was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief when he saw her still asleep on the couch. Zeno got up to make some peach and strawberry oatmeal. Zeno called Moniqa to tell her that Atari was okay after the incident and that she was sleeping on the couch so he he could keep an eye on her for the rest of the night.
"Well that's a relief. It was keeping me awake when I saw the opened door on my monitor." Moniqa muttered.
"Take care, we'll see you later at ten forty." Zeno finished as he and Moniqa said their goodbyes before hanging up.
Zeno heard Atari sit up and remove the covers from herself as he put the oatmeal into bowls.
"Hey, you're up. How are you feeling?" Zeno asked.
"W-why was I on the c-couch? I-I went t-to bed in my room, r-right?" Atari queried.
"Yeah, but somehow ya wound up in S-FIT's basement again. And we gotta go later at ten forty to go defeat another ATEMS member at the megafloat shipping facility." Zeno explained.
Atari got a fearful look in her eyes and began to cry.
"It's okay, we won't be dealing with him. It's somebody else." Zeno assured.
Atari was sitting on the center couch cushion with her eyes above her knees ever so slightly and she held her legs to her torso. Zeno placed his left arm around Atari's shoulders as he sat on the right of Atari. She dried her tears and went to eat her breakfast.
"Is it good?" Zeno hoped as Atari ate another spoonful.
She nodded up and down with her eyes shut, the widest smile on her face.
"Ya like it that much huh? Maybe I'll have to get the blueberry one next time." Zen supposed.
When he looked at the clock, Zeno's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when he saw the clock read 10:34.
"Oh man, we'd better get going or else we'll be getting an earful from Moniqa." Zeno cautioned jokingly.
When they arrived, everyone went to check on Atari.
"Gee, this is some welcome." Zeno sneered.
"You don't look like you got much sleep last night. Is everything okay?" Copen asked.
Zeno gave him an 'are you serious right now?' expression.
"Did anything else happen after everyone disbanded?" Copen asked.
"Nothing out of the ordinary." Zeno confirmed.
"Are you considering her being kidnapped to be ordinary or...?" Copen questioned.
"Depends, are you going to keep underestimating me?" Zeno interrogated.
"I suppose neither are good situations." Copen muttered.
"Well then, that's my answer." Zeno remarked.
"We'd better get going, that way the enemy won't expect us." Copen notified before they left.
