(Author's Note: Hello my readers, and welcome to the latest installment of my "Agamemno-Contingency" series.
Now…I know what you guys want to ask: "Tiger, are you SERIOUSLY writing Batman forming contingency plans to take down the Madrigal Family from Disney's "Encanto"? ESPECIALLY when there are other superhero franchises you could have done instead?".
…
…
Yes. Yes, I am. Did you not read the title and/or the summary of this story?:/
In all seriousness though, this IS what I'm doing. The idea came to me COMPLETELY out of the blue one day, and I found it TOO interesting to ignore.
This one is certainly the most…unique out of this series thus far. Not only because it's not centered around a group of superheroes, but because of just how different the Madrigals are from the other two groups on a more "personal" level. Vought's heroes from "The Boys" are basically super-powered celebrities who constantly abuse their powers while the members of the Hero Association from "One-Punch Man" are mostly comprised of people who are barely controllable and (in some cases) even outright unstable. Those two groups are FAR more likely, and more deserving, of needing contingency plans to take them down if they become threats to humanity.
The Madrigal family? This is probably just pouring fuel on the fire of all of those "Batman is super paranoid" jokes. But, like I said, I liked the idea too much to not do it. So, we'll call this an experiment. And…who knows? If this is fun enough to write (and gets a little love), maybe it'll open the door for this series to include universes with groups that aren't exactly superheroes. We'll see.
(BTWs, a few of these plans will include my personal headcanons of how the Madrigals' Gifts could evolve in the future. My logic is that if I can figure out ways that their magic could grow, then I'm sure that DC's greatest detective and one of its greatest minds could figure out the same:/)
Anyway…hope you guys enjoy:)
"This is Batman. Security Level: Omega. Password: Delta Charlie – 27 – 5 – 1939. Enable new protocol. Title: Agamemno-Contingency."
"Three months ago (as of the time of this recording), I and the other founding members of the Justice League were working to stop the plans of Lex Luthor, who had aligned with the Joker and Circe. We tracked them down to a small village in Colombia…where we had received unexpected help in thwarting their plans."
"The Madrigals. A family of powerful magic users who had been sealed off from the rest of the world for over half a century. The story goes that, fifty-one years ago, Alma and Pedro Madrigal (the family's matriarch and deceased patriarch) were forced from their home when their village was attacked by soldiers. They, alongside their infant children and surviving residents of the village, ran far into the mountains…but the soldiers quickly caught up to them, where Pedro Madrigal sacrificed his life to protect his family. In that moment of love and loss, something was brought into existence: a new, powerful form of magic that the Madrigals dubbed their "Family Miracle". Not only did the magic kill the attackers and seal the valley (the "Encanto") off from the outside world, but it granted the family magic powers straight out of pure fantasy."
"Regardless of how truly "accurate" the story is, it cannot be denied that the Madrigals possess incredible power. Power that could rival even some of the most experienced members of the League (1). And, while the Madrigals have shown themselves as kind people who have earned the respect they possess, I'd be lying if I said that I'm not let…suspicious about their magic. Such an incredible source of power, with undefined limits in possession of an unknown group who has seemed to manifest out of nowhere? Combined with some suspicious behavior (2) and some rumors that I've heard circulating (their credibility, admittedly, being questionable at best), it's all more than a little concerning."
"If the Madrigals were to truly prove themselves as a threat to the rest of the world, plans will need to be put into place to stop them (especially if myself and the other members of the League fail to do so). This danger isn't one that I believe will happen...but, if it does, we need to be prepared for the worst. Always."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Medic."
"Julieta's magic gives her the ability to heal the wounds of herself and others through the food that she cooks. Cuts, bruises, and even broken bones can be healed in mere moments through a single bite of her food (or a single sip of one of her "elixirs"), though it appears to be less effective with sickness. I doubt that it's strong enough to completely regenerate lost organs or entire limbs, but this is currently unknown."
"From a purely practical standpoint, Julieta herself poses no more of a physical threat than a normal human…though, she would prove a critical part of the Madrigals, especially if they turn against humanity. Vault 37-D houses a sniper rifle with darts as ammunition, each coated in a specially designed formula that's guaranteed to render a normal human unconscious for four days. A single shot will easily knock her, allowing for her capture and robbing the Madrigals of one of their central members."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Sound Wave."
"Similar to Julieta, Dolores's magic isn't one that makes her a threat by herself but, rather, serves as support to the rest of the family. Her "Gift" grants her superhuman hearing, allowing her to hear almost anything occurring within the Encanto as long as she focuses on it. Not only does this mean that any plan of attack would need to be conducted outside of her hearing range, but it means that any attempt of stealth will be rendered all but useless."
"On Table 17-A, I've placed a recording of Black Canary's sonic scream. Although the full force of her scream would no doubt be lethal (even to a normal human), I believe that the scream's power could be re-engineered to a frequency that would instantly incapacitate Dolores after only a moment of exposure. Further testing is required for "Sonic Blaster"."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Primal."
"Antonio. A mere child of only six. With each passing day on my mission against crime, I fear that I go to sleep with less of my humanity than the day before. Creating a plan to incapacitate a mere child? I find myself truly afraid for the man that I'm allowing myself to become. But…we need to be prepared for the worst. Always."
"Antonio's magic gives him the ability to communicate with all animals as easily as he would humans. Although his power seems fairly straightforward, he has only possessed it for a year as of the time of this recording (as the Madrigals are apparently unable to access their magic until the age of five). Because of this, I've considered the possibility of Antonio's magic undergoing some form of "unforeseen evolution" (including the possibility of him gaining a psychic connection to animals, which could translate into physical augmentation)."
"The best method for incapacitating Antonio would be to cut off his ability to speak. A quick administration of tear gas would be particularly effective. As for all animals around him (as the boy's compassionate nature seems to have earned him the loyalty of virtually every animal within the Encanto), I've begun construction of a machine named "The Flash Orb": a spherical device that will unleash a flash of light powerful enough to stun any target."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Discord."
"Camilo is a shapeshifter, capable of taking on any form he desires. Although he was limited to copying the forms of humans that he's seen, he's been shown to be able to create his own humanoid forms to take (the prime example being a more "monstrous" form of his uncle Bruno, being taller with discolored skin and glowing eyes). Recently, it appears that he's pushed past a previous limitation and mastered the ability to morph into animals as well. Although he's seemingly unable to replicate the powers of any "enhanced" individual whose form he takes, I question if that's truly a limit of his Gift…or simply another roadblock that he can overcome with enough time and training."
"Camilo's shapeshifting makes him an extremely chaotic opponent. Within mere moments, he can shapeshift to avoid or overpower nearly any opposition. However…he's not able to heal himself by taking on another form (simply hiding it). I've begun construction of a virus which, while far from lethal, will cause Camilo to convulse with bouts of pain too intense for him to change form. From that moment, a quick burst of electricity will be able to subdue him. See Vault 44-A for formula of the virus and the "Shock Gloves" prototype."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Nature."
"Isabela Madrigal. Once thought of as her family's "Perfect Angel", now known as one of its most wild and ferocious members. Isabela is a powerful Chlorokinetic, one of the strongest I've ever seen (with the potential to rival that of even Poison Ivy). She's able to not only manipulate existing plants but even create plant life out of thin air (reports of her full potential supporting the idea that she can not only create dozens of plants in seconds but can do so across the entire village, suggesting the possibility of a deeper connection to the Earth (3))."
"Due to Isabela's plant-based powers, fire and heat-based weaponry would be the best to use against her magic (see Table 17-A for "Heated Batarangs" and "Laser Gauntlets"). Alternatively, I've been developing a new weapon that I had planned to use in my next conflict with Poison Ivy. A gas-based weapon that will break down the physical matter of any plant life. With Isabela's current power being below that of Ivy's (for now), I'm confident that it will be effective. Testing for "Plant Grenade" to begin shortly."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Storm."
"Pepa is one of the most powerful, and dangerous, members of the Madrigal family, with power that many would describe as "god-like". She's able to manipulate the weather around her, creating everything from thunderstorms to blizzards to hurricanes with little more than a thought. The baseline of her magic seems to tie her emotions to various weather phenomena (see connected list for which emotion corresponds with each phenomenon), though she's been shown to freely manipulate the weather without needing to feel a specific emotion."
"A key way to target Pepa would be to distract her, split her focus between multiple targets, and work her up into a rage (though, while this can cause her to make mistakes, this comes with the risk of causing her to lash out in a truly unstoppable force). Recently, I've begun construction of a new gadget that I've named "The Weather Dome": a cubital device that's capable of influencing the weather within its set area. This can be used to combat Pepa's atmokinesis directly, nullify her powers outright, or overwhelm her by forcing her into an atmosphere beyond even her ability to withstand. Further testing is required."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Hercules."
"Luisa's magic manifested itself into an incredible physique. She's strong enough to lift buildings, shatter stone, and bend metal with limited effort, as well as being durable enough to withstand circumstances that would be lethal to normal humans (I've seen boulders break and metal bend against her skin, all without even the smallest of scratches). Given the magically-enhanced nature of her body, I suspect that she would also be able to run at superhuman speeds (though, nowhere close to the level of someone like The Flash)."
"Attempting to face Luisa in direct combat would be all but suicide, as I suspect that even some of the more powerful members of the Justice League would struggle against her strength. However, I've created two plans for two different avenues of attack that I believe will be successful."
"I've created an advanced version of my Batmobile, placed within Vault B-19. I've augmented the boosters more so than on my primary vehicle, allowing for this Batmobile to not only possess greater speed but better maneuverability for avoiding Luisa's attacks. It's also been provided with numerous adhesive projectiles, stun grenades, and energy blasters to keep Luisa at a distance and wear her down over time. On the chance that the user is unable to stay out of her grip, the Batmobile itself has been constructed with much stronger armor than the usual iteration (current tests suggesting that the armor could withstand the full force of a nuclear warhead)."
"The secondary method is…not a thought I relish. But, if these plans become necessary, we can't leave any advantage aside. While Luisa's physical power is something truly frightening, studies have shown a MUCH weaker mental strength. Table 27-B houses the formula for re-engineering the process of the Scarecrow's "Fear Gas", which I believe would be especially effective at targeting Luisa's mental weaknesses. Once exposed, and trapped in a cycle of her fears, she would be left vulnerable for containment."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Seer."
"Bruno. The most mysterious member of the Madrigal Family. He was the biggest Pariah in the Encanto for most of his life, with his name even being forbidden to be stated when he disappeared for ten years. It would seem that the reason for this distrust and fear from many of the villagers stems from their belief that Bruno is capable of manipulating the future to his heart's desire. This, however, is nothing more than an exaggerated rumor."
"Bruno's Gift allows him to see into the future, examining the most likely outcome of any scenario. Choosing to look into the future seems to be an extended procedure that requires him to be around some form of earth (as his visions create jade tablets of the future, with it currently being unknown if he can actively look into the future without the needed materials to create his tablets or even without forming these tablets at all), though they can also come involuntarily. Because both the earth and the weather are visibly affected by Bruno's magic (with the winds intensely picking up, the ground shifting, and the sky visibly darkening), Bruno likely possesses some form of geokinetic and atmokinetic abilities. His tablets being directly formed from sand leads to the suspicion of a "Heat-Based" power as well, but that requires further analysis to confirm or deny."
"Although Bruno possesses the potential to grow into a truly terrifying force (see Table 21-Z for likely evolutions of Bruno's powers, possible countermeasures, and their individual probabilities of success), his precognition is the central threat. To combat this, I've constructed a new device with the aid of other magic users including Zatanna and John Constantine. "The Nullifier" is a small, handheld device that, once activated, projects an energy field around the user that makes them completely immune from and undetectable to magic. This will take away the danger of Bruno seeing any move against him coming. From there, a well-placed blow to the head would easily take him out."
"Agamemno-Contingency, File Codename: Miracle."
"Mirabel. Second youngest Madrigal grandchild and perhaps the most beloved member of the family. A shining example of light and compassion…which is only one reason it would be difficult to face her, should she turn against the Earth."
"Although nearly every Madrigal possesses power that could be considered "god-like", Mirabel is on an entirely different level. The "Miracle" itself is not invincible, as the family has no issue with sharing how their magic had fallen in the past. Since the family's love and connection are (supposedly) at the heart of their power, a breaking of these factors weakens their magic. Previous familial problems had resulted in the collapse of Casita and the extinguishing of their Miracle…but Mirabel brought it back. The fact that Mirabel was able to singlehandedly restore such an incredible source of power, combined with the fact that she's been all but confirmed to succeed her grandmother as the new "Holder of the Miracle", means that she should be capable of everything that her family can accomplish…and MUCH more."
"Within Vault 3-19, I've placed the newest Batsuit I've constructed. Its armor is comprised of a fusion of the strongest metals in the world, enabling the strength and durability to contend with even the heaviest hitters of the League (for a time, at least). It can reach hypersonic speeds in seconds, possesses more firepower than even my Batmobile (which can already rival that of an army), and has an onboard supercomputer that examines the opponent's fighting style to detect possible weak points, adapt to their capabilities, and, with enough time, analyze the opponent's movements to predict future attacks. At its center, I've placed a second "Nullifier" to combat Mirabel's magic. While it won't be strong enough to render the wearer completely immune to her power, it should provide enough of an advantage for the rest of the suit's capabilities to do their work. Because of Mirabel's immense (and, yet, still mostly unknown) power, I recognize that it's likely that the suit still won't be enough. Because of this, I've begun consistently upgrading the "Anti-Magic Batsuit" whenever I'm able to grant it whatever advantage I can. I have no desire to face Mirabel in combat (her compassionate nature is exactly what this world needs)…but, if the situation were to ever arise? I can only pray that the suit will be enough."
"While the other members of the League would be the first to move should the Madrigals turn against the Earth, we still don't know the full power of the family. If even we are unable to stop them, these plans are to serve as a secondary measure to give the people a greater chance in the event of our failure."
"And to the Madrigals themselves: if these plans are discovered in my wake of being incapacitated, please understand…this had to be done. I hope that we'll never have to worry about you being a threat, but your magic is too powerful to leave the idea to chance. For the protection of the innocent, we must be prepared for every scenario. Always. This is Batman…signing off."
(Author's Note: Annnnnnnnnnd SCENE!
(1): This isn't me saying that the Madrigals could beat the Justice League in direct combat. I always imagine the Justice League as growing much larger than the initial seven in nearly every timeline. The Madrigals aren't as capable of fighters as the League, but someone like Luisa or Pepa would definitely be considered more powerful than someone like Batman or the Green Arrow.
(2): This is mainly Alma being very untrustworthy of outsiders and tight-lipped about the magic, which is how I imagine her acting with outsiders (especially some who show dangerous powers of their own). Understandable given the circumstances, but it doesn't exactly..."endear" her to an intelligent and paranoid Dark Knight.
(3): Batman got this information from Mirabel's tale about her and Isabela's reconciliation during "What Else Can I Do". I LOVE that song, and it has some very beautiful visuals…but it's VERY easy to overlook the logistics of just how powerful she was in that song:/
*Soooooo…what did we think?
To be perfectly honest, I had a LOT more fun with coming up with the contingency plans than with the first two (the first one being the first attempt at a concept like this while the second one being INCREDIBLY frustrating for how similar the heroes' capabilities were), so I hope that it was fun to read. I was gonna include some sort of section about Casita, but she can really only be a threat to someone who is inside of her already. So...any plan that I thought kept going back to "Don't Go Inside Of Casita":/
Now, let me address the "Mirabel" section that I KNOW is gonna throw EVERYONE off. To be perfectly honest, I first decided to do it because the idea was hilarious to me. Batman's most intense contingency plan, with perhaps the smallest chance of success, being for arguably the weakest Madrigal? That's funny:)
BUT…I also think that it's actually a likely scenario that could happen. Consider the situation from Batman's perspective: you discover a source of INCREDIBLE power, wielded by a family hidden away from the world. This magic can physically alter the environment, create life itself (that being magical spirits, no less), and can turn children into veritable gods (and all of THAT is only scratching the surface of its full potential). You've heard about how this magic died long before you showed up, but was restored. And, not only was it restored, it was restored in its entirety by a single teenager. A source of power that's restored through her, without any object or other source to help. Just. Her.
In that scenario, I don't think that it'd be entirely unreasonable for Batman to believe that Mirabel might be the source/manipulator of all of the Madrigals' magic (especially since I'm positive that the rest of the family would, after the events of the movie, always say something along the lines of "Mirabel restored the magic"). That's also kind of the point. Back in my "Agamemno-Contingency: Hero Association" story, Batman WAS able to figure out that Saitama was a lot stronger than most people believed…but he still wasn't able to figure out Saitama's true strength. Whereas the idea behind that plan would be that it's doomed to fail, the idea behind this one is that it's…an overcompensating (for lack of a better term).
Well…I thought it was funny:/
So, what did we think? Like it? Hate it? Want to see other installments in this series besides just superheroes? Or no? I'll make the decision myself, but I still want to hear your guys' opinions.
Now...let me ask a bit of an odd question: would anybody be interested in reading something where the Madrigal Family reacts to Batman's contingency plans for them? For years now, I've enjoyed fanfics that feature a group of characters reacting to various things. Usually, it was either them in the place of popular media (Ex: one RWBY reaction fanfic had the cast watch the final battle of "Revenge of the Sith", with Taiyang in the place of Anakin and Qrow in the place of Obi-Wan) or them acting in similar events in their own universe (another fanfic had Jaune and Ren as Anakin and Obi-Wan, except it was depicted as a possible future for Remnant itself and not just them watching people they know as characters in other media). Then I began seeing these fanfics have characters react to not only their own future but then actually watching the shows/movies themselves (one fanfic had many characters from My Hero Academia watching various Marvel media, including The Incredible Hulk (2008) and the first Spider-Man movie (2002)). I even some a few stories that had characters actually to the fanfics that other people had written.
But then...something changed. About two and a half years ago (as of writing this), I read an Encanto fanfic titled "Mama Bear" by an author known as "ArcticVulpix". The story centered around a divergence at the beginning of Encanto, where Alma put the happiness and safety of her family above EVERYTHING...even the magic. It was a very good story that showed how the Madrigals' lives would have greatly improved with a matriarch of this mindset. Then, sometime after that story ended, ArcticVulpix worked on something new. It was a reaction fic with the canonical Madrigals reading "Mama Bear". They wrote a reaction fic about their own fanfiction.
I don't know if that was the first one they did (if it wasn't, it was, at least, the first one that I read) and I'm sure that it's not the first time a reaction fic like that has been made, but I hadn't seen something like that before. The idea of something doing that was GENUINELY something that I had never even considered. It was...interesting, to say the least. So much so that it's always at the back of my mind to write a reaction fic to many of the fanfic ideas that I had. Just like the initial idea for this story sounded interesting to me, the idea of making something about the Madrigals reacting to this sounds kinda funny to me. Either as a separate story or, maybe, as a part of my "Journeys into the Multiverse" story.
I don't know. I keep going one way and then another. Does that sound interesting to ANYONE? I'll write it someday if I decide that I want to, but I'd like to hear some feedback.
Anyway...constructive criticism ONLY. No flames, please.
Review, Favorite, Follow, and I'll see you guys in the next story:)
