Chapter 6: New Missions and New Discoveries

Beverly hills California

"oh Adeline, this pecan pie is just delicious." Lena Luthor complimented her niece-in-law.

The adults of the Luthor family had gathered in Lionel's sitting room having their bi-monthly tea and pie.

Wanting to talk to his adult grandchildren about a serious matter, Lionel asked that the young ones, Matthew and Lucy stay home while the rest gathered there.

"thank you. It's Mama's recipe." Adeline admitted as she gestured towards her mother.

The latter smiled with pride at her daughter.

"Well, son? How are things going anything new?"

Adeline and Conner looked at each other before Adeline nodded.

"Well, Wonder Woman protégé has been hanging around. She's been staying with us almost every weekend for the past two months. She's been struggling on the team of younger heroes and has needed some extra guidance."

"extra guidance? She wonderwomens protégé what could thr girl possibly need from you? conner how do you know this girl isn't working for Superman on ways to get you back into the Justice League's hands." Lena accused.

Conner gave his aunt a serious look and said "Trust me auntie it's not like that. She's been coming to the refuge before she even realized who I was. I think she's just a little lost. Trying to find her way. There a lot of pressure on her to be wonderwomens protégé."

"hmmm any other superheroes showing up at the refuge?" his father Julian Luthor asked.

"just a few now and then. But nobody likes Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman. The green lanterns have been coming around though, it's been fun! Guy Gardner is hilarious and now the green lanterns are in, a lot more aliens have been coming to the refuge. We might have to make the place bigger to hold the capacity."

"Why don't you invite the girl to your next mission?" Lionel suggested.

"Why would we do that? How do we know we can trust her?" Raven asked.

"you saw her breakdown at the table babe. I think Conner is right. She's just a young adult trying to find her place in the world as a superhero and as a person." Waylon admitted as he pulled Raven into his side. " look, I know the family has a hard time trusting newcomers as we should because people can be manipulative and have secret agendas. Conner and I know that from experience. But Cassie, she's like a star in the night. Doing her best to shine. The only thing we can do is try to help her get there."

"so what's this new mission about?" Conner asked Lionel.

"well as you know your uncle has dark connections with the light. That includes vandal savage. Your father and I have been investigating rumors of another meta-human trafficking ring. You want the dark seven to take it on?"

" I can't stand that name and you know we will. Anything to help stop or slow this down."

"alrighty, it's a mission." His grandfather smiled.

….

Artic circle:

Cassie admitted she squealed like a ten-year-old when Conner invited her on a mission with his covert team. They were called the Dark Seven, not the name he chose for them but it got the job done.

So here she was buckled in on the dark seven's spaceship, wearing an all-black suit and a black mask. On her chest was the number seven. It seemed like everyone was wearing the same thing, all except Conner. His outfit was a two-piece black suit with a seven on his chest, outlined in silver. On his back was a giant sword that almost looked like a butcher knife. She wondered what it was for. Why wasn't he using his super strength?

"hey steel?" she called using his code name

"what's up?" he asked turning from the pilot's chair.

"Can I ask what the sword is for? I mean you have super strength? Why use a sword?"

"My aunt is a well-seasoned swordsman she was trained by Ra al Ghul and Lady Shiva. When my aunt became older she wanted out of the League of Shadows and it was only because of the friendship my grandfather and Ra had that was able to free her from that life. Anyway, she trained me with the sword, telling me that if my powers were ever taken away or weakened by kryptonite, I could fall back on my sword and still defeat my enemy."

"that's… smart. I never thought about having a backup just in case something goes wrong with my powers."

"take the inhibitor collars for example" Raven spoke up. " we have all been put in one of those at least once. Conner even has all of us practice with them so we can use our other skills besides our powers. It helps a lot."

"alright now y'all, eyes up front. We getting ready to land. " Tuppence announced.

Cassie took a deep breath ready to get her head in the game.

…..

" alright, we split up. Raven, Wonder Girl, and Starfire you three are going to go to the tunnels and get to the kids. Waylon, Ace, and Platinum you three will take down the guards, Terry and I are going to shut down the electrical system. Once that is done, we meet in the middle. Keep your comms on.

With that said the group split up.

"wonder girl grab my hand," Raven ordered. Cassie did so and Raven transported them through a wall.

"Starfire, we need some light," Raven called. It was then Starfire created a green glow brightening the dark tunnels.

"alright. According to the map the kids being held captives are not too far from here. Should take us fifteen minutes. Let's go."

….

"Waylon to your left!" platinum shouted as she knocked a guard down. She did her best to protect her stomach but if she kept taking shots like this, it might be her last mission. She couldn't afford anything to go wrong.

"platinum above you!" Waylon yelled.

Platinum looked above her to see black spider hanging from the ceiling.

"Well, well, well if it isn't the members of the seven. Oh and lookie here if it isn't platinum in all her platinum beauty. Why don't you come up here and kiss me." black spider taunted.

Platinum ignored him and took out another guard.

"ace!" she barked.

"on it!" Ace complied.

Ace used her psychic abilities to throw Black Spider across the room

"Come on ladies! We gotta hurry!" Waylon urged.

Platinum and Ace followed them right behind him.

….

"Alright steel I shut down the generators!" Black bandit informed him.

"great! I just cut the power lines. We should go dark in five, four, three, two…."

Bam. The whole building went dark.

"yes! Let's go black bandit!"

….

Wondergirl, Starfire, and Raven made it to the teenagers locked in their pods unconscious.

"How shall we free them without harming them?" Starfire asked.

"well the powers out now, so I can levitate the doors opened freely. You two catch them so they don't fall." Raven explained.

With ease, Raven was able to unlock all the pods, liquid pouring out.

"let's get them out of here."

Cassie was helping a teenage girl out of her pod when a door burst open.

Standing before her were a tigress, rocket, and black canary.

"Starfire, raven get the kids out of here. I'll handle them." Wondergirl told them. She then turned towards the Justice League members, hands up in surrender.

"We don't mean any harm. Were simply here to set these kids free." She told them.

Of course, the league got into a defensive stance.

"oh really! if you're here to save them where are you taking them?" Tigress asked.

Cassie didn't get a chance to explain because a black smoke bomb went off blocking her sight.

"let's go!" Waylon shouted appearing next to her. "that bomb only lasts five minutes, we have to get a move on!"

Cassie flew into the air, picking up Waylon under his arms. Leaving the Justice League in a cloud of black smoke.

"ughhh. Waylon that stuff reeks!" Terry complained as they all gathered on the ship. Cots were laid out where twenty unconscious teenagers were laid out. Raven and Ace were able to levitate all twenty of them out of the underground labs.

"but it worked." Waylon laughed as Tuppence and Starfire began to examine the teenagers.

"I'll these kids are malnourished and there's no telling their psychological state." Tuppence told them. "conner they goin need- guys,… wheres conner!?

….

Conner didn't know how he ended up here. It was like he was called. He and Terry joined up with the others as Waylon threw the smoke bomb. Giving them a chance to take the teens and run. However, as they were escaping he felt something pulling him towards a locked entryway. With all his strength he broke the door down, stepping into the dark room.

Using his thermal vision, he could see there were two people in the very back of the room. One male and one female. It was the female who Conner felt connected to. A deep connection that he couldn't understand.

With ease, he broke both pods, freeing the people he realized were full-grown adults. To his surprise, the woman was taller than expected. She had to be at least 7 foot, she had long black hair and for some unknown reason, conner just knew she had blue eyes. If only he could see them.

As if she heard him.

The woman's eyes shot open. It was like looking at a reflection of himself in female form.

"my..son," she whispered hoarsely.

And then…she passed out.
