Rias and her peerage, along with Gohan, set off early the next morning for the mountains, the crisp air filling their lungs and the breathtaking scenery providing a perfect backdrop for their rigorous training. As they walked towards their training field, each member of the group carried heavy backpacks filled with supplies and training equipment. Issei, always quick to voice his discomfort, couldn't help but complain about the weight.
"Man, this is heavy! Why do we have to carry so much stuff?" Issei grumbled, adjusting his pack.
Rias smiled slightly at his complaint but remained focused. "It's part of the training, Issei. Strengthening our bodies is just as important as honing our abilities."
Gohan, walking beside Rias, spoke up, his tone serious. "Rias, about the Rating Game... what happens if I were to kill someone? Would they die for real?"
Rias turned her attention to Gohan, understanding the gravity of his question. "Gohan, Rating Games aren't just some magical alternate reality. The we will actually fighting each other in the flesh with real weapons and powers. However, there is a retirement system that will simply teleport contestants judged unable to continue fighting outside the arena into a med bay, where they will get immediate magical and medical treatment to fix up the injuries they endured."
Gohan nodded, absorbing the information. "So, if an attack is too fast or too powerful for the retirement system to respond, it could be fatal?"
Rias's expression grew somber. "Yes, that's correct. It's crucial to maintain control and precision during the fight. The goal is to incapacitate, not to kill."
With this sobering information, they continued into the training field where they set up lodgings in a nearby building.
Just after they finished setting up and were about to head out to the training field, Grayfia appeared. "Lady Rias, everyone. I'm here to discuss the details of the upcoming Rating Game."
Everyone sat around Grayfia, attentive. "The game will take place in nine days. There was some backlash from other devils regarding Gohan's participation on the grounds he is not a devil, but it was Riser who insisted that Gohan be permitted into the match. So Gohan will be allowed to participate only if Lady Rias is the only remaining piece. If any of Gohan's attacks are deemed life-threatening, I will remove the devil from harm's way to ensure their safety, thereby not limiting Gohan but keeping the devils safe."
Grayfia then turned to Gohan. "That being said, I would like to see your full power, Gohan, so I can make a realistic judgment of what constitutes a life-threatening attack."
Gohan nodded, stepping forward. "Alright, Grayfia. I'll show you. But not here. Do you have somewhere we can go?"
Grayfia responded, "Yes, I will use the same magic for the Rating Game to create an area for you to demonstrate your power." She summoned a circle for Gohan and a screen for everyone to watch.
Walking through the circle, Gohan found himself in an empty field, perfect for unleashing his power. "We are ready when you are, Gohan," Grayfia's voice echoed from the screen.
Gohan took a deep breath and began powering up. His aura flared to life, white energy surrounding him as he ascended to his ultimate form. The sheer force of his power caused the very air to crackle and the ground to tremble. His energy reached a staggering level, nearly breaking the reality of the magic field, bending and warping it under the strain of his power. Grayfia watched in horrified awe at this unbelievable level of power, unlike anything she had ever encountered.
As Gohan's energy continued to surge, the sky within the magical field darkened, and the ground beneath his feet cracked under the immense pressure. Trees swayed violently, and rocks lifted off the ground, suspended in the turbulent energy field. The sheer intensity of his power was palpable, radiating in waves that seemed to distort the very fabric of reality.
Gohan's ultimate form stood as a testament to his incredible strength and control. His eyes, now sharp and focused, reflected his determination. Grayfia, who observed from the safety of the viewing screen, her composed demeanor faltering slightly in the face of such overwhelming power.
"Is this sufficient, Grayfia?" Gohan called out, his voice steady despite the tumultuous energy surrounding him. Gohan stopped at about 30% of his full power, worried about the state of the magic area he was in.
Grayfia, regaining her composure, nodded, her voice steady but with a hint of reverence. "Yes, Gohan. This demonstration is more than sufficient. Your power is indeed formidable. We will ensure the safety protocols are adequate to handle such strength during the Rating Game."
As Gohan's energy finally settled, the landscape bore silent witness to his unparalleled might. The cracked earth and uprooted trees painted a vivid picture of the raw, untamed power that he wielded with such precision and control. Grayfia couldn't help but feel a deep respect for Gohan, knowing that his strength just powering up was on new level no devil was close to. Part of her felt sorry for Riser, while another part eagerly anticipated seeing the damage this boy could inflict in a fight.
With a stray thought, she wondered, 'What if he is still holding back?'
Grayfia considered the possibility more deeply and realized that it didn't look like Gohan was trying too hard to reach this level. The sheer scale of destruction he caused was beyond anything she had ever witnessed from just releasing energy. The thought was both humbling and terrifying. She understood that Gohan's power was not only immense but also controlled with a finesse that hinted at even greater potential.
Rias addressed the group, her voice filled with determination. "We have nine days until the Rating Game. Let's use this time wisely. We'll train hard and make sure we're ready. Just because we have Gohan on our team doesn't mean we can afford to slack off. We can't rely solely on his strength."
Issei nodded fervently. "Right! We'll give it our all, Rias!"
Kiba and Koneko echoed their agreement, their expressions serious and focused. Asia, though a bit quieter, nodded with determination.
Gohan smiled reassuringly at them all. "I'm here to support you, but teamwork and preparation will be key to your success."
With Grayfia's departure, Rias and her peerage, along with Gohan, stood in the vast training field, the crisp mountain air filling their lungs. The setting sun cast long shadows, adding a sense of urgency to their preparations. Gohan stepped forward, addressing the group with a firm yet encouraging voice.
"To start, we need to see where everyone is at the moment and build from there," Gohan announced, standing tall in the middle of the training field. "Use your abilities to the fullest and come at me."
The team exchanged determined glances. This was their chance to measure their current abilities and understand how to improve.
Issei, always eager to prove himself, activated his Boosted Gear. The red gauntlet glowed with power as he pumped himself up. "Boost!"
Kiba, with his sword drawn, took a swift, agile stance. Koneko clenched her fists, her muscles tensing as she prepared for combat. Akeno, standing a bit farther back, began to channel her lightning magic, a crackle of energy surrounding her.
Rias, ever the strategist, gave the signal. "Everyone, go!"
The team sprang into action. Issei charged forward with unchecked aggression, aiming a powerful punch directly at Gohan's face. Gohan, with his heightened reflexes, effortlessly sidestepped the attack, disrupting Kiba and Koneko's coordinated flanking maneuver. Issei's attack had left him vulnerable, and Gohan swiftly intercepted his wild punch with a skillful block, following up with a controlled strike to Issei, hitting him squarely in the solar plexus.
Issei stumbled back, gasping for breath as the force of Gohan's strike momentarily incapacitated him. Kiba and Koneko adjusted their tactics on the fly.
"Issei, you're charging in too predictably," Gohan remarked calmly, offering his first tip. "You need to vary your attacks and consider your opponent's movements more carefully."
While Kiba and Koneko circled cautiously, assessing their next moves, Asia, positioned strategically, observed the battle with concern. Seeing Issei take a hit, she rushed forward, her healing powers ready to mend his injuries. "Issei, hang in there! I'll heal you."
Issei nodded gratefully, managing a strained smile. "Thanks, Asia. I'll get back in there."
Meanwhile, Kiba seized the initiative, his sword flashing as he unleashed a rapid flurry of strikes aimed at exploiting any opening in Gohan's defense. Koneko, ever agile, maneuvered to flank Gohan from the side, her fists poised for a series of powerful punches.
Gohan, maintaining his composed stance, calmly parried Kiba's sword strikes with precise movements. "Kiba, your attacks are fast, but they lack any real power," he advised, offering another tip. "Try to vary your timing and incorporate feints to keep your opponent off balance."
As Koneko closed in, aiming her rapid punches at Gohan's midsection, he deftly evaded and blocked each blow with minimal effort, acknowledging her tenacity. "Good speed and power, Koneko. But don't forget to mix in defensive maneuvers to protect yourself," he advised, using his size advantage to kick her back gently but firmly. This launched Koneko across the field.
Akeno, observing from a distance, saw an opportunity to support her teammates. She channeled her magical energy, preparing a combination spell of lightning and wind. "Let's see how Gohan handles this," she murmured, releasing the spell towards Gohan with precision.
Gohan anticipated the attack, swiftly leaping into the air to avoid the lightning, propelling himself out of immediate danger. Landing gracefully, he assessed the situation and prepared to offer further guidance.
"Akeno, your timing was good, but remember to anticipate your opponent's evasive maneuvers," Gohan suggested, offering constructive feedback. "Consider combining your magic with Kiba and Koneko's attacks for coordinated strikes."
Rias, deeply focused on the battle, saw what she perceived as a critical opening to test Gohan's defenses further. With determination, she gathered her magical energy and unleashed a concentrated beam of destruction magic towards Gohan, aiming for full force impact. "Take this!"
Reacting with lightning speed, Gohan anticipated the attack. In a swift motion, he shot a ki blast, intersecting Rias's destructive beam mid-air. The collision created a powerful explosion, the shockwave knocking back Kiba, Issei, Asia, and Koneko who were too close to the epicenter.
As dust settled and debris scattered, Gohan remained composed but firm in his feedback. "Rias, you need to be more mindful of your teammates. I understand you saw an opportunity, but always consider the potential counteractions your opponent can take."
Rias nodded, her expression a mix of determination and reflection. She understood the gravity of Gohan's advice and the implications of her actions in a real battle scenario. "You're right, Gohan. I'll keep that in mind going forward." Kiba, Issei, Asia, and Koneko picked themselves up, their determination undiminished despite the setback. Gohan's training session was proving to be a crucible of learning, each moment sharpening their skills and reinforcing the importance of strategy and teamwork.
Gohan's words cut through the aftermath of the explosive clash, his tone firm yet supportive as he continued to mentor Rias and her peerage.
"On top of this, Rias, as the leader, you need to be able to direct the battle more effectively," Gohan emphasized, his gaze unwavering. "Make a plan that utilizes each member's strengths. As you have explained to me, Koneko is your tank, so why did she flank? Kiba is faster, Akeno is adept in several types of magic, but she only used an offensive one."
Rias absorbed his critique with a thoughtful expression, acknowledging the validity of Gohan's points. She realized the importance of strategic planning and leveraging her team's individual abilities to their fullest potential. "You're right, Gohan," she replied, her voice steady with determination. "I need to coordinate better and play to everyone's strengths."
With the intensity of their training session momentarily set aside, the group gathered together in the tranquil setting of their training field to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. The crisp mountain air infused their surroundings with a sense of calm, contrasting the rigorous activity that had filled the morning.
As they sat down to eat, the team members shared their thoughts on the training session, discussing their strengths and areas for improvement. Issei, still catching his breath, looked at Gohan with newfound respect. "Gohan, you're incredible. I felt like I was fighting a mountain."
Gohan chuckled, taking a bite of his food. "Thanks, Issei. But remember, the goal isn't just to become stronger individually. It's about becoming stronger as a team."
Kiba nodded, thoughtfully chewing on a piece of bread. "Gohan's right. We need to think more about how our abilities can complement each other."
Koneko, her stoic expression softening slightly, added, "And we need to trust each other more. In a real battle, we can't afford to hesitate."
Akeno smiled, her eyes sparkling with determination. "We're getting there. This is just the beginning."
Rias, looking around at her team, felt a surge of pride and hope. "We've come a long way, and we have a long way to go. But together, we'll be unstoppable."
Gohan nodded in agreement, his expression serious yet encouraging. "Exactly. Now, let's enjoy this breakfast and get ready for the next session. We have a lot of work to do, but I know you all have what it takes to succeed."
Akeno stood before Issei, Asia, and Gohan in a room centered around an empty table with only a bottle of water placed on it. Her voice carried a tone of guidance as she began her lesson on magic.
"Lesson Two: It's time you became aware of the aura and magic surrounding you, and tried to stream it to a focal point," Akeno spoke with clarity and purpose.
Issei, eager to learn, stretched out his arm and concentrated intently, attempting to summon and channel his energy as instructed. Akeno moved behind him, offering guidance in her calm, reassuring manner. "Let the image of light flow through you and be released as magical power."
"I think I did it!" Asia exclaimed with excitement, a small green ball of light appearing in her hand.
"Awesome!" Issei cheered, genuinely impressed by Asia's quick progress.
"Look at you go with your little green light...! I think you have a lot of natural talent for this, Asia," Akeno praised warmly, acknowledging Asia's innate abilities.
Gohan, observing the exercise with interest, interjected thoughtfully. "Nice work, Asia. From what I gather, Akeno, it's a lot like how I focus my energy," he remarked, drawing a comparison to his own proficiency in controlling ki.
As the lesson progressed and Akeno continued to guide Issei and Asia in mastering magical techniques, she emphasized the broad scope of possibilities once the fundamentals were grasped. Akeno demonstrated her point by using the water bottle on the table, manipulating the liquid inside to freeze into ice, causing spikes to shoot out from the bottle's surface.
"Once you grasp the technique, you can control fire, water, lightning, and any of the other elements," Akeno explained, her voice filled with encouragement.
"Asia, I bet this one would be easy for you. Wanna try?" Akeno prompted, recognizing Asia's natural affinity for magic.
"Sure!" Asia replied eagerly, her determination evident as she prepared to channel her newfound knowledge.
Issei, absorbing the instruction with keen interest, listened as Akeno turned her attention to him. "You, on the other hand, need to spend a little more time on those concentration exercises," she advised gently.
"I know," Issei acknowledged, nodding thoughtfully.
"Visualization is the essence of all magic," Akeno continued, sharing a fundamental principle. "Think about whatever it is you want and see it happening in your mind. Kay?"
Issei considered her words, recognizing the parallels with his own training in ki manipulation. "Are there any rules about what I can imagine?" he inquired, curious about the scope of his creative freedom.
"Not at all. Anything you want. Just concentrate," Akeno reassured him, her confidence in his potential evident. Issei then starts to picture Akeno in the nude and feel his energy start to move but breaks his own concentration when he realises what he's doing
Issei's next lesson came later that evening with Koneko. He approached it with a mix of trepidation and determination, fully expecting Koneko to focus on his perceived shortcomings.
"That was lame," Koneko remarked bluntly after swiftly kicking Issei into a nearby tree.
"I wasn't finished!" Issei protested, rubbing his side where the impact had landed.
"You gotta aim more towards the body's central axis and learn to strike with precision at your opponent's core," Koneko instructed, her voice firm as she demonstrated by jumping on Issei's back and putting him in a headlock with her legs before releasing him and kicking him away.
"Screw this! Asia's like the manifestation queen and I can't even control my own imagination...!" Issei grumbled, frustration evident as he found himself beaten into a hole.
"Ugh! I suck at life!" he exclaimed, feeling disheartened by his perceived lack of progress.
"We all have powers that are unique to us," Koneko remarked, crouching at the edge of the hole.
"Yeah, whatever... Name one thing that I'm better at than other people," Issei challenged, his tone a mix of resignation and defiance.
"You're a pervert," Koneko deadpanned.
"Thanks a lot," Issei muttered sarcastically, not entirely surprised by her response.
"But wait, there's more. You can also be a really hard worker," Koneko added, her expression softening slightly.
"Hey, you think so...? That's not so bad. Thanks, Koneko!" Issei responded, a hint of gratitude in his voice despite his earlier frustration. Issei got up trying to surprise Koneko with a quick attack.
"Suck it," Koneko quipped, back flipping away as Issei renewed tried to attack her.
"Now, Lesson Four!" Rias announced cheerfully as she gathered Issei and Asia in the kitchen.
"Can I use my powers to change?" Issei asked eagerly, curious about the extent of his abilities.
"Can we use them for cooking?" Asia added, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm.
"Absolutely...! Magic comes in handy anywhere...! Have fun and good luck," Rias encouraged, leaving them to their devices.
Asia approached a pot of water, focusing her energy. "Okay, water... will you please boil?" she requested softly. Almost immediately, the water started to bubble and boil, responding to her magical command.
Meanwhile, Issei stood contemplating an onion in his hand, recalling his recent lessons. 'During Akeno's lesson, the only thing I could summon was a tiny ball of light. What am I supposed to do with this...?' he wondered, skeptical yet determined. He pictured Akeno in his mind complete nude and concentrated on her just popping out of her top. With a pop, the onion peeled effortlessly in his hands.
Putting the peeled onion down Issei grabbed a potato "Sweet...! It works on potatoes too!" Issei exclaimed, surprised and pleased by his newfound skill.
"Wow! Look how good you're getting!" Asia praised, impressed by Issei's progress.
"Yeah... That wasn't too shabby, was it? Maybe I was just having a bad day earlier," Issei mused, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
"I'm so proud of you!" Asia smiled warmly, genuinely happy for Issei's improvement.
As they continued their culinary experimentation, Issei couldn't contain his excitement. "That was easy! I can do this! Check it out! I'm like a Sacred Gear Super Freak!" he proclaimed, showing off for Asia.
Asia giggled at Issei's enthusiasm. "I think that's enough for now!"
Looking around at the plethora of peeled vegetables, Asia exclaimed, "Oh my goodness...! Good thing Gohan eats a lot," gesturing towards the neatly prepared vegetables.
After a satisfying meal prepared with their newfound magical skills, everyone gathered around the table, enjoying the food and each other's company. Issei couldn't resist, especially with Akeno and Koneko nearby, picturing both girls naked.
"Don't you dare try to peel me," Koneko deadpanned, her eyes narrowing at Issei.
"I would never! I'm just picturing you naked!" Issei shot back, earning a small chuckle from Akeno.
Rias interjected with a smile, shifting the conversation to a more serious tone. "So, how was it?"
"Too small," Issei replied with a grin.
"No, I mean today. How do you think it went...? Did you learn anything new?" Rias clarified, her concern evident.
"I did... I learned I'm the weakest link on this team," Issei admitted, a touch of humility in his voice.
"Knowing is half the battle, as they say," Rias reassured him, her tone gentle yet firm. "You shouldn't feel entirely useless, though. Between Asia's healing powers and your Boosted Gear, you've both become valuable assets."
Rias's tone grew more serious as she continued, emphasizing the importance of their roles. "Your opponents will always be aware of this. So, I need you both to gain enough power to escape from any situation, so that you won't slow the rest of the team down."
"That was delicious and filling... I think we should head to the baths now," Rias suggested as the group finished their meal.
"You're all going together?!" Issei blurted out, his surprise evident.
"That would be the plan... You're such a silly goose. Would you like to come along...? You want to see us naked together, don't you?" Rias teased playfully, turning to Akeno.
"You, Akeno?" she continued.
"No, I think it sounds like fun! We could bathe him, too!" Akeno chimed in with a mischievous grin.
Rias then turned to Asia, asking, "Would you mind if he came, Asia? I wouldn't want any of us to feel uncomfortable."
"Sure!" Asia replied cheerfully.
Koneko, however, responded dryly, "I'd rather die."
At this point, Gohan interjected, his voice calm but firm. "Rias, there's a reason the bathing areas are sectioned off by gender, and I would recommend sticking to that requirement."
Rias's playful banter continued, her teasing tone laced with amusement as she responded to Gohan's insistence on separating by gender for bathing.
"Well, Gohan, I didn't expect you to be such a prune," Rias teased, a mischievous glint in her eye. "You maybe the strongest here, but your weakness is easily explainable—such a gentleman surrounded by devils who enjoy such sin."
Gohan remained composed, his expression unchanged. "It's not about being a prune, Rias. It's about respecting boundaries and traditions."
Rias chuckled, acknowledging his point while still keeping the playful banter alive. "Alright, alright, Mr. Gentleman. We'll respect the norms. But don't think I won't tease you about it later."
With that settled, Rias and the girls headed towards their designated bathing area, leaving Issei, Kiba and Gohan to make their way to the men's baths. As the boys walked, Issei couldn't help the water leaking from his eyes as he grabbed Gohan's shirt. "Gohan what have you done" Issei actions drawing a laugh from Kiba
Entering the bath Issei stood by the wall that separated the baths, his emotions a mix of jest and lingering disappointment, Kiba's playful banter continued to elicit reactions from both him and Gohan.
"Should Gohan and I leave you two alone...? You and that wall look like you need your privacy," Kiba teased, his smirk evident.
Gohan chuckled softly, playing along with the light-hearted atmosphere. "Maybe we should, Kiba," he replied, his tone teasing.
Issei, still in a dramatic mood, shot back with a hint of annoyance, "Oh, come on! This is all part of my training, you know!"
"I don't remember teaching you anything like this," Gohan interjected with a smirk, adding to the playful banter.
Kiba couldn't resist poking fun further. "They teaching you X-ray vision or something? I didn't know that was part of the routine," he quipped, his tone teasing.
Issei's mind flashed back to Koneko's earlier words, her blunt honesty echoing in his thoughts. "'Name one thing that I'm better at than other people. You're a pervert,'" he recalled, acknowledging her straightforward critique.
Frustrated by the banter and his own emotions, Issei impulsively punched the wall. He winced as a sharp sting shot through his hand upon impact, the moment punctuating his frustration.
"Issei?" Rias's voice pierced the quiet of the hallway as Issei emerged from the bathroom, the dim light casting long shadows on the walls.
Issei looked up, concern flashing in his eyes as he saw Rias approaching him with determination, a stack of papers held tightly in her arms. He straightened, his posture shifting from casual to attentive. "Oh, hey, Rias," he greeted softly, his tone tinged with worry. "What are you doing up this late? Shouldn't you be resting?"
Rias moved closer with purpose, her steps deliberate yet graceful despite the weight of the documents she carried. "What perfect timing," she began, her voice calm yet urgent. "I need to chat with you about something anyway."
Issei's gaze flickered to the papers in her arms, his brows knitting in concentration. "Wow. So those are the attack plans?" he remarked, his voice reflecting the weight of their impending battle.
Rias nodded solemnly, her eyes fixed on the scattered documents as if seeking answers within them. "It is," she admitted, a touch of frustration coloring her tone. "But it's not a very good one, I'm afraid. According to this manual, we still have a lot to be worried about."
"But it's gotta work, right?" Issei pressed, leaning closer to catch a glimpse of the plans. "You've been working tirelessly on this. I mean, you don't even sleep anymore!"
Rias sighed softly, her shoulders sagging with the weight of their impending challenge. She adjusted the papers, holding them more securely as she spoke. "Doesn't matter," she replied, a hint of resignation in her voice. "We can't control what the opponent will do. And you realize we're up against Phoenix, right? The name is most appropriate. A devil, and a marquis counted among the Pillars. We've got our work cut out for us. His ability is the same as the beast his family's named after. Immortality."
Issei's brow furrowed deeper as he absorbed her words, his hands gesturing unconsciously as if to grasp the enormity of their task. "Immortality," he muttered, trying to grasp the implications. "Is that allowed? How is it even possible?"
Rias explained patiently, her voice gentle yet firm. She leaned in closer, her eyes meeting Isseis. "He's indestructible. He regenerates immediately following an attack. Riser's win-loss ratio is eight to two. Those two losses were accepted out of respect for a family he's close to; he lost on purpose. Ever since the Rating Game began, the House of Phoenix has dominated. They've always had the highest score."
Issei shook his head in disbelief, his hands running through his hair in frustration. "Can't say I'm surprised," he muttered. "How are you supposed to lose if you're immortal?"
Rias placed a reassuring hand on Issei's shoulder, her touch warm and comforting. "It's a challenge," she admitted, her voice steady as she met his gaze. "But at least I'll get a chance to tell my father and the others where to 'stick it.' They set up this Game, anticipating me losing. Now I'll change the score and prove them wrong. In our chess, this is called a swindle or a trap maneuver."
Issei managed a small, wry smile, his eyes reflecting a mixture of determination and admiration for Rias's resolve. "Yeah, well... I'm just glad you're not going along with this bullshit marriage proposal. That takes balls."
Rias chuckled softly, a rare moment of levity amid the seriousness. She adjusted her grip on the papers, crossing her arms as she considered his words. "The proposal was to the heiress of the House of Gremory," she explained. "Because of my title, I am never recognized as just Rias. The House of Gremory will always come before me. I've learned to adjust and make personal decisions accordingly. My title is something I will always take pride in. But when it comes to marriage, I want to share that with someone who loves me as Rias, not for how my status can improve their life. Otherwise, they may as well marry the House."
Issei's expression softened with understanding. "Whatever! I like you and I don't care what your name is! I like you for who you are! The Gremory name doesn't define you. It's just an empty title, and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know you. You're incredible... Look at everything you've done for me. I just hope someday I can pay you back."
Rias's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, touched by Issei's sincerity. "What...? What happened...? Did I say something wrong again?" Issei asked, concern knitting his brows.
Rias shook her head gently, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Of course not. It's nothing," she reassured him, Issei spoke "Anyway, the point is: If we're going to fight, we're going to win. I know you're called the Princess of Ruin and the Empress of Annihilation. Nobody earns themselves nicknames like that if they're easy to beat, right? There's no way a guy named after a bird can stand up to you. Plus if all that fails, Gohan will kick his ass."
Rias's expression turned serious once more. "Not true. My powers are strong, but I can't heal myself the way he can. My strength lies in my entire team and our ability to fight together, which means I need never battle alone. When I fight, Gremory fights with me. But if I lose, Gremory does as well. Winning is the only option. I like Gohan too, Issei but this is my problem. I cant just hope to be saved when I have the chance to do it myself"
Issei looked at Rias with newfound admiration. "You're amazing. I can't imagine having that kind of strength. I keep trying to make you proud, but I feel like such a failure."
"No, Issei, you're not," Rias insisted firmly yet gently, her voice filled with empathy.
Issei sighed, his shoulders slumping as self-doubt crept in. "It's really okay. I need to start accepting it. The signs have always been there, I just refused to see them. Even with the Sacred Gear, I've been the least useful to you. That says a lot, don't you think? I keep throwing myself into things as if I can help, and I end up making everything worse." His voice wavered with frustration. "You don't need me... I mean, I'm just... a freaking loser! Plus you have Gohan the super powered alien god"
Rias shook her head, a gentle smile on her lips. "That's not true, Issei. You underestimate yourself. You have potential, but you lack confidence. And that's something I'll be more than happy to help you with."
Issei looked at her, puzzled yet hopeful. "What do you mean?"
"You'll see soon," Rias replied cryptically, pulling him into a comforting hug. "But for now, go get some rest. Both your body and mind have been through a lot today. I'll stay by your side until you fall asleep. It's going to be okay, Issei. Trust me. You will come to believe in yourself."
Issei woke up early, the first light of dawn barely illuminating his room. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, determination already burning within him. Today was the day he would train harder than ever before. He couldn't shake the feeling of worthlessness that had been gnawing at him, but he knew the only way to overcome it was through action.
Quickly dressing in his training gear, Issei headed to the courtyard where Gohan had promised to meet him. The morning air was crisp and cool, setting the stage for the intense training session ahead.
Gohan was already there, stretching and warming up. His presence was both comforting and intimidating; the half-Saiyan warrior exuded power and confidence. "Good morning, Issei," Gohan greeted with a smile. "Ready to start?"
Issei nodded firmly. "Yeah, Gohan. I need to get stronger. I can't keep feeling like I'm holding everyone back."
Gohan's expression softened with understanding. "You're not holding anyone back, Issei. But I get where you're coming from. Let's begin with some warm-ups and then push your limits."
They started with stretches and light exercises to prepare their muscles. After warming up, Gohan led Issei through a series of intense drills, correcting his form and technique with patience and precision.
"Focus on your balance," Gohan advised, demonstrating a high kick. "Power comes from your core. If your foundation isn't solid, your attacks won't be effective."
Issei followed Gohan's lead, pushing himself harder with each repetition. Their training progressed to sparring, where Gohan encouraged Issei to unleash everything he had.
Issei activated his Boosted Gear, feeling a surge of energy as the red, armored bracer with yellow accents and a green jewel on the back of his hand gleamed with power. He launched into a flurry of attacks, but Gohan easily countered and provided feedback.
"Your punches are too predictable. Tighten your form," Gohan coached, deflecting Issei's strikes. "And don't neglect your footwork. It's crucial for your overall defense and offense."
Adjusting his stance, Issei absorbed Gohan's advice, focusing his thoughts on Rias and his determination to protect her. Channeling his emotions into his training, he felt a surge within his Boosted Gear, intensifying its glow.
"Boost!" Issei called out again, feeling the energy amplify through his gauntlet.
Gohan smiled, noticing the change in Issei's demeanor. "That's it. Use that power. Now, come at me again."
Issei renewed his assault with increased vigor. His strikes were sharper, his movements more fluid. Gohan, impressed by Issei's progress, continued to spar with him, acknowledging his improvement with each successful exchange.
During their intense session, an unexpected surge of power surged through Issei's gauntlet, resulting in a sudden explosion that startled Gohan. Though surprised, Gohan quickly regained his composure, a proud smile spreading across his face.
The explosion's sound reverberated through the morning air, awakening Rias, Akeno, Asia, Koneko, and Kiba, who rushed out in their pajamas, concern etched on their faces.
"What's happening?" Rias demanded, eyes wide with worry.
Akeno, her gaze sharp and assessing, gasped in awe. "Issei's Boosted Gear... it's evolved!"
Issei glanced down at his gauntlet, now larger and more intricate, pulsing with a vibrant red glow. It was more claw-shaped now, covering his hand and arm with intricate yellow accents and glowing green inscriptions. Overwhelmed with disbelief and pride, Issei whispered, "I... I did it?"
Rias stepped forward, her expression softening as she placed a reassuring hand on Issei's shoulder. "You did it, Issei. You've grown stronger. We're all so proud of you."
Meeting Rias's eyes, Issei felt the weight of his earlier doubts lift. With newfound determination, he nodded confidently. "I'll keep pushing forward, Rias. For you, for everyone. I promise."
On the eighth and final day of their rigorous training regimen, Rias and her Peerage faced Gohan in a rematch that pushed their limits. The battlefield crackled with the clash of steel and magic, each moment intensifying as they sparred against Gohan, whose strength dwarfed theirs.
Akeno's crackling support magic propelled Koneko forward like a relentless storm. Enhanced by Akeno's power, Koneko's movements blurred as she pressed Gohan with unyielding strikes.
Issei surged behind Koneko, his Boosted Gear ablaze with raw power. With each strike, he unleashed his determination, his attacks weaving seamlessly with Koneko's assault. Their combined assault forced Gohan into a defensive stance, each strike a testament to their growth under Gohan's tutelage.
Meanwhile, Kiba darted around the battlefield like a phantom, his speed and agility creating chaos for Gohan. He exploited every opening and distraction, keeping Gohan off balance and preventing him from fully focusing on countering Issei and Koneko's relentless advance.
Asia remained a steady anchor near Rias, her healing magic ensuring Issei and Kiba could endure the punishing blows exchanged in the heated combat. Rias orchestrated their movements with precision, her spells of fire and lightning augmenting their attacks and disrupting Gohan's rhythm.
Despite Gohan's overwhelming strength, he responded to each strike from Issei and Koneko with calculated precision, blocking and countering with swift movements. Akeno's lightning spells momentarily disrupted his rhythm, but Gohan quickly adjusted, using his experience to turn their momentum against them.
As the battle wore on, Gohan's resilience and strategic prowess began to tip the scales. He landed blows that sent Koneko and Kiba reeling, momentarily breaking their rhythm. Sensing an opportunity, Gohan surged forward, his focus shifting to Akeno, Asia, and Rias, who stood ready to support their comrades.
Issei, frustrated by the disparity in power, clenched his fists in determination. "Boost! Boost! Boost!" he roared, his voice echoing with resolve. The aura of his Boosted Gear intensified as he channeled every ounce of his energy into a final, desperate attack.
Gohan, sensing the surge of power within Issei, turned his attention just in time to witness the culmination of Issei's determination. "Explosion!" Issei released a torrent of energy in a massive blast that surged towards Gohan with unstoppable force.
With a swift motion, Gohan intercepted the blast with one hand, the ground shaking beneath him. He redirected the explosive wave towards a distant mountain range, the impact shattering the mountain and sending shockwaves through the air.
The field fell silent, filled with awe at the display of power. Even Gohan, standing amidst the aftermath, acknowledged Issei's growth. His expression, a mix of respect and acknowledgment, spoke volumes about the young warrior's progress.
After Issei's explosive display, the battlefield slowly returned to calmness, the echoes of his powerful attack still lingering in the air. The group, breathing heavily from their intense training, gathered together amidst the serene aftermath. Issei, sweat glistening on his brow, exchanged nods of acknowledgment with Kiba, Asia, and Akeno, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction.
Rias stepped forward, her voice cutting through the lingering tension. "Well done, everyone," she praised, her tone a blend of admiration and relief. "You've shown tremendous growth and determination today."
Kiba wiped sweat from his brow, his expression one of quiet pride. "It was a tough fight, but we held our ground."
Asia, her healing magic still faintly shimmering around her, spoke up with a gentle smile. "I'm just glad I could keep everyone going. You all fought brilliantly."
Akeno's crackling aura dimmed as she chuckled softly. "And Issei's explosion was quite the spectacle. You really know how to make an impact."
Issei, flushed with both exhaustion and pride, grinned sheepishly. "I couldn't have done it without all of you pushing me forward. We've come a long way."
Koneko's breath heavy from exertion, yet her demeanor stoic as ever. Despite her usual reserved nature, there was a subtle glint of pride in her eyes, a silent acknowledgment of their collective achievements against Gohan.
With the battle concluded and their spirits lifted by their collective effort, they began to wind down. As they gathered their gear, Rias glanced around at the weary but determined faces of her peerage. "Alright, let's head back and cook ourselves a well-deserved meal," she suggested, her voice carrying a hint of excitement.
The group nodded in agreement, eager to relax and refuel after their intense training session. They made their way back towards the main house, the crunch of gravel under their feet echoing softly in the evening air. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the field as they approached the familiar warmth of the kitchen.
As Gohan stood in the field, enveloped in memories of training with Goten and Videl, a bittersweet wave of nostalgia and longing washed over him. The recollection of their early morning sparring sessions, filled with laughter and strengthening their brotherly bond, brought a genuine smile to Gohan's face. Goten's boundless energy and unwavering determination always uplifted his spirits, reminding him of the simple joys and deep connection they shared as siblings.
Reflecting on Videl, Gohan couldn't help but admire her relentless pursuit of martial arts excellence. Despite not being a Saiyan and lacking their inherent strength, Videl's tenacity and fierce dedication had always impressed him. Their training sessions were marked by intensity and focus, each pushing the other to new heights and fostering a mutual respect that solidified their bond.
Amidst these cherished memories, however, Gohan also felt the weight of responsibility he carried. Moments of self-doubt and guilt surfaced, especially regarding times he believed he had let down Goten and Videl, particularly during the Buu crisis. He wondered about their safety and well-being, pondering if they faced challenges alone, away from his protective presence.
A solitary tear traced down his cheek, a silent testament to the emotions stirring within him. Just then, a faint tug on his wristband diverted Gohan's attention. Turning around, Gohan was surprised to find Koneko standing there, her usual stoic expression softened with concern and empathy as she had come to check on him.
"Gohan," Koneko spoke softly, her voice breaking the tranquility of the field. She paused for a moment, her eyes reflecting the depth of her understanding. "Are you okay?"
Gohan managed a faint smile, touched by her gesture. "Yeah, just thinking about my brother Goten and Videl. I miss them."
Koneko nodded quietly, her presence a comforting reminder of shared understanding. She didn't say much, but her expression conveyed empathy and support, much like the unspoken bond between siblings.
"I miss training with them," Gohan continued softly, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "Issei reminds me of Goten's energy and Videl's determination always pushed me to be better."
Koneko listened attentively, her usual reserved demeanor softened by a subtle warmth. She understood the weight of familial bonds and the longing for those who shaped one's journey.
"It's okay to feel that way," Koneko said gently, her voice carrying a quiet reassurance. "Your memories with them are part of who you are. They're like the bonds we forge."
Gohan nodded gratefully, appreciating Koneko's understanding. "Thank you, Koneko. It helps to talk about it."
Their conversation hung in the air, the understanding between them deepening like the unspoken bond between siblings. Gohan found solace in Koneko's silent support, knowing that even as he forged new relationships, the memories of Goten and Videl would always hold a special place in his heart.
"Thanks for checking on me," Gohan said sincerely, his gaze meeting hers with gratitude. "I'll carry their memories with me, wherever our journey takes us."
Koneko nodded, a small, reassuring smile crossing her lips. With a mutual understanding and a shared bond akin to siblings, they turned together towards the main house. There, their friends awaited, ready to share a meal.
