Rosa was looking through the window of the E-train as she was on her way to Virbank City. She was reminiscing about the time she last saw her childhood friend, Leo. He was barely six when Ghetsis overtook Unova and Rosa and her family fled from Nuvema Town to Aspertia City. Now, Leo is carrying confidential information that his mother, archeologist and former Nacrene City gym leader, Lenora, gathered for, Prof. Juniper's Assistant, Bianca. Rosa is the welcoming wagon and Leo's guide from Virbank to Aspertia City.
"Next stop Virbank City. Exit to the left.", a gentle female voice said over the speakers. "While in Virbank City, don't miss the opportunity to visit the newly opened farm owned by our very own Gym Leader Gertrude. The Pignite Farm is located in the former Virbank City Complex.", the voice continued.
Rosa got up from her seat, took her oversized bag from the bag compartment above her head, and headed toward the Exit. She looked at her X-transceiver and realized she was a tidbit late. As the train stopped and the doors opened, she rushed out to the platform and started rushing, scaring a flock of Pidove on her way to the exit.
As she arrived at the Virbank City pear Rosa was completely out of breath. The ship from Castelia was just starting to unload the passengers, so she had a couple of moments to catch her breath. A major rush of people started coming toward Rosa but she couldn't see Leo between the mass. As the people mass dissolved, she finally noticed Leo. He was the last one exiting the ship. Leo was exploring his surroundings as he slowly was approaching the pear. The 1,3 m height boy wore a khaki-colored boy scout outfit. The color of the Boy Scout outfit just enhanced his shiny teal buzz cut and dark skin tone. Rosa rushed towards Leo and surprised him with a hug. Leo reluctantly embraced Rosa's hug.
"Hi Leo, long time no see.", Rosa said.
"Hi, Rosa." Leo responded as he squirmed himself out of the hug and corrected the position of his round gold glasses. "Yeah, really long time no see. How have you been?", he continued.
"So, so nervous. Tomorrow is the day I am finally getting my first Pokemon. Honestly, picking you up may be a blessing in disguise. I didn't have time to overthink which one I will choose. Will it be Snivy, Tepig or Oshawott? Or is Bianca having a special Pokemon for me!?", Rosa exclaimed in excitement. She even did a twirl as she pumped her fists.
"Speaking of Pokemon. Kabs you can come out.", Leo said in a calm tone. Suddenly Rosa noticed movement in Leo's backpack. The zipper surprisingly opened and a Kabuto climbed out of it and rushed on top of Leo's head. "Rosa meet my Pokemon Kabs, a Kabuto from the Kanto region.
Rosa couldn't believe her eyes. A spark emerged on her face. Rosa grabbed the little Kabuto from Leo's head and picked it towards the sky in excitement. "A Kabuto! Nice to meet you, you're a precious little Pokemon, aren't you?", Rosa said in a soft voice, as she was digging into the little Pokemon. Panic emerged on Kabs' face. As Leo noticed this, he tried to warn Rosa but her excitement was unstoppable and she started moving around the pear with Kabuto in her hands. All of a sudden Kabuto released a Water gun and hit Rosa directly in the face. As the Water gun hit Rosa, she released Kabuto which landed on its feet and swiftly returned to the top of Leo's head.
"I've tried to warn you Rosa. Kabs isn't really a people person. He has been like that ever since we revived him a couple of months ago. Mom and I are the only people she likes to interact with. Are you okay, though?", Leo said in a calm voice.
A soaked Rosa looked at them softly. "It's okay. I overdid it, this happens more often than you think. I get too excited when I meet new Pokemon." Rosa replied. "I'm sorry Kabuto. I promise I won't do that again." Rosa added. As she moved in to caress Kabs', the Pokemon started shivering and swiftly closed its eyes. As she saw Kabuto's fear, Rosa withdrew her hand. The awkward silence was interrupted by an alarm sound from a nearby speaker.
"Due to technical malfunctions caused by a thunderstorm the E-train to Aspertia City won't depart in the foreseeable future.", a female voice announced.
"What!?", Rosa exclaimed.
"That sucks.", Leo added. "Should we wait in the Pokemon center till they fix the issues?"
"No, no, no. We have to reach Aspertia by tonight.", Rosa said in a panic. A smirk then emerged on her face. "It's still early, though, if we head out not, we can reach Floccesy Town and take a Bus from there.", Rosa responded.
"Hmmm, let's go then. I was never in this part of Unova so why don't explore it a bit more." Leo added in excitement.
Rosa and Leo were already marching for a couple of hours and Leo didn't stop talking. He was a rather secluded kid when they were growing up but once Rosa asked about the research his mother was conducting, he wouldn't stop talking. Rosa was so impressed by the work Lenora was doing yet also disappointed that she wasn't a gym leader anymore. She completely focused on her research and finding new fossils all over the Pokemon world.
"And this is how we found Kabs' fossil on Cinnabar Island. Reviving her was the easy part." Leo concluded in excitement.
"Wow, what a great story. You are so lucky to already have a Pokemon. When do you plan on starting to challenge Gyms?", Rosa responded.
"Never. I do enjoy the occasional battle but I want to explore and find new Pokemon no one has ever seen before.", Leo responded in excitement.
Suddenly a thunder interrupted their conversation and rain started falling. Rosa and Leo looked at each other, without words they just started running from the rain looking for shelter. As Leo saw a big tree on the side of the road, he run towards it and signalized Rosa to follow him. As Rosa run towards him, she slipped on a pile of mud and tripped into the tree. The leaves in the tree started to ruffle and a flock of Woobats emerged. The Woobats looked not amused as Rosa hitting the tree seemingly woke them up. Rosa and Leo once again looked at each other and realized they were in trouble.
"We have to act fast, Rosa. Kabs use ancient power!" Leo yelled. Kabs jumped from Leo's head as a yellow light started surrounding her body. Rock boulders started appearing around Kabuto and launched toward the flock of Woobat. The Woobats started using air slash to defend themselves but only semi-successfully as the rock boulders knocked a couple of them to the ground.
"Leo, I think we should run. Kabs won't be able to defeat them all.", Rosa said as she was getting ready to run.
"I think you're right Rosa.", Leo responded as Kabuto fall back into his arms.
The two friends started to run along the muddy road. But as the Woobat started charging air slash attacks toward them they intercepted the road toward Floccesy Town forcing Rosa and Leo to take a d-turn and head into the woods. After a short run, a rock hillside emerged in front of them and the friends found themselves cornered by the Woobats. The rain intensified as the panicked Rosa and Leo were trying to find a way to escape. Kabuto then jumped in front of the two friends positioning himself to face the half dozen of Woobats in front of them.
"No Kabs, there are too many of them.", Leo proclaimed.
"We will fight them together!", Rosa yelled as she picked up a branch from the ground and stood next to Kabs. Kabs couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"Kabuto.", the Pokemon said as Rosa directed a wink at him.
As Rosa charged towards the Woobats a Thunder hit in the area between them and the Woobats. Suddenly a mighty blue Pokemon on a white cloud decedent from the sky. Thundurus spread its muscular arms and released two thunders from its hands, one towards the flock of Woobats, scaring them away, and one into the hill behind Leo and Rosa. Thundurus then disappeared into the cloud of dust that emerged from the smashed boulders. Leo and Rosa looked at each other in awe.
"What was that?", Rosa asked in a timid voice.
"I have no idea. I think I've heard of this Pokemon but why would it interfere? Why would it safe us?", Leo responded as the dust around them settled. "Kabs come back to me.", Leo added as the little Pokemon rushed toward his trainer and climbed up his body and settled back on his head.
As the dust settled and the rain stopped Rosa and Leo noticed a cave entrance where Thundurus thunder stroke.
"Is that a cave? Let's take shelter Rosa.", Leo said tiredly.
"Are you okay? Is Kabuto, okay?", Rosa replied.
"Yes, we are fine, I think. Just tired from the running.", Leo responded.
"Kabuu, Kabuto.", Kabs replied with a soft voice.
Leo, Kabs and Rosa headed into the cave. While Leo noticed some carvings on the walls, Rosa sat down on a big boulder near the entrance and opened her bag, she took a sandwich out of it and started chopping it into smaller pieces. She put a napkin on the ground and a piece of the sandwich on it. Rosa signalized Kabuto that it was for her.
"Do you want a bit of the Sandwich, Leo?", Rosa asked, as Kabs slowly approached Rosa and started eating her piece of the Sandwich.
"No." Leo said quietly as he inspected the walls in the cave. The carvings on the walls told a story. Leo took his Rotom Phone out of the bag and started taking pictures.
"What are the carvings saying?", Rosa asked while chewing her sandwich.
"I don't know.", Leo responded with a dose of excitement in his voice.
As the sun broke through behind some of the clouds, the cave illuminated revealing a pedestal on the other side of the cave. As she saw a light reflecting from the pedestal, Rosa decided to take a closer look at it. Kabs followed her closely. As she approached the pedestal Rosa saw a weird ball on top of the pedestal.
"Hey Leo. What is this? Is this a Pokeball?", Rosa asked.
Leo rushed to Rosa's side. "I don't know. It does look like a Pokeball but it seems to be made out of wood. I've never seen a Pokeball like this, it looks really old.", Leo responded.
Rosa was mesmerized by the rustic brown ball in front of her. She approached it closely and pressed the center of the Pokeball. The top cover of the wooden ball popped off and a bright shapeless red light emerged out of the bottom half. The energy blast pushed Leo and Rosa to the ground. The red light slowly took shape as it landed in Rosa's lap. The red light turned into a yellow-light cream monkey-like Pokemon with a black cloud levitating from its head and a lighting at the end of its yellow tail.
"Panspark, Panspark.", the Pokemon echoed with a drowsy voice as the black cloud over its head disappeared.
"Oh my gosh. How cute are you? What Pokemon is this?", Rosa said happily.
The Pokemon looked around itself as the drowsiness started to fade. It jumped out of Rosa's lap and hid behind the rock pedestal.
"Don't be afraid little guy. We just released you from the Pokeball.", Rosa said as she pointed to the two broken halves that were on the floor now. The Pokemon gathered the two halves and tried to put it back together, but unsuccessfully.
"Hi. My name is Rosa. And you are?", Rosa asked.
"Paaaaanspark, Paaaanspark.", Panspark replied timidly.
"Panspark. I've never heard of a Pokemon, called Panspark.", Leo added. "It looks like a Pansage, Panpour, or Pansear." Leo then took out his Rotom phone Pokedex and scanned Panspark.
"No information available." The Pokedex answered.
"This is definitely a first.", Leo said with a surprised tone in his voice.
Kabuto run past the Humans to Panspark's side. "Ka, ka, Kabuto." Kabuto spoke to Panspark. Kabuto than rushed to the pieces of the Sandwich Kabuto ate. Kabuto than rushed back to Panspark and pushed it back to the Sandwich, the two of them shared the Sandwich.
"What is this place, Leo? Weird wall carvings, unknown Pokemon? And that giant blue Pokemon appearing?", Rosa wondered.
"I don't know but let's gather our stuff and head back to Aspertia City, Bianca may know more.", Leo said.
"You're right. We don't have much sunlight left. But I'll mark this location on my X-transceiver just in case.", Rosa added.
While Leo gathered the pieces of the wooden Pokeball, Rosa took her bag and kneeled down. "Panspark, will you come with us? We don't want to leave you here alone." Rosa said as she watched the two Pokemon eat.
"Ka, Kabuto, Kabuto.", Kabuto added.
"Pan. Pan.", Panspark said softly.
"You can trust me. I promise." Rosa said softly.
As if time stopped Panspark looked deep into Rosa's eyes. It clutched its paws in front its mouth, unsure what to do next. Out of the blue, an air slash attack hit right beside Rosa and Panspark, knocking them to the ground. Rosa swiftly turned around, just to see that two Woobat returned and are looking for trouble. The two Woobats flew around them and then started to use Gust attack, picking up Kabs and throwing it against a wall, while Panspark run out of the cave scared. Rosa rushed after Panspark while Leo went to help Kabs.
"Come on Kabs, get back into your Pokeball it's too dangerous out here.", Leo commented.
Panspark in panic kept running deeper into the woods and Rosa followed while being chased by the two Woobats. As Panspark finally stopped running Rosa caught up to it.
"Panspark finally you stopped running. Are you hurt?", Rosa questioned as she looked at the superficial scratches on Panspark's body.
"Woo!", the Woobats exclaimed as they launched another air slash attack towards Rosa and Panspark.
Rosa jumped in front of the attacks protecting Panspark. The air slashes threw Rosa against a tree. "You want me. You don't need to hurt Panspark in the process." Rosa exclaimed as she got up. Panspark ran towards her. "It's okay. This is my fight Panspark. You go back to Leo, he will give you the help that you need." Rosa once more caressed Panspark's squishy head before she started running again. "Come and get me if you can.", she yelled. The two Woobats then charged with Wing attacks toward Rosa, when suddenly Double team versions of Panspark appeared in the air in front of the Woobats and intercepted the attack on Rosa.
"What? Panspark no!", Rosa yelled. The real Panspark than pushed itself from a tree and charged an against the Woobats and pushed them away. Panspark then landed in front of Rosa. It turned its head towards her. "Pan. Pan. Panspark" Panspark yelled as the black cloud reemerged over Pansparks's head with small electric charges circulating through the cloud.
"You want us to battle together?" Rosa said to Panspark.
"Pan. Pan. Spaaaark", Panspark replied while nodding.
"Okay, Panspark. Let's do this then.", Rosa pulled up her sleeves and clenched her fists. "Panspark create a double team circle around the Woobats."
Panspark grinned and suddenly double versions of Panspark appeared in a circle around Woobat. The confused Woobat started using air slash attacks repeatedly but not hitting the real Panspark in the process.
"Which attacks could Panspark know?" Rosa asked herself. As the double Panspark versions disappeared one final version remained behind the Woobats, it slowly charged an Electro ball and threw it towards one of the Woobats making a direct hit. The Woobat fell to the ground, while the other charged air slashes toward Panspark. As Panspark got hit, Rosa rushed to its side.
"Are you okay Panspark?", Rosa asked. Panspark slowly got of the ground as the cloud above its head started slowly to fade again. Suddenly thunders started hitting around again and Thundurus descended from the sky again.
"Thundurus!", the Pokemon exclaimed while making direct eye contact with Panspark and Rosa.
Panspark then engulfed into light blue light and the cloud above its head grew again. It took a step away from Rosa and released a mighty dose of electricity hitting Thundurus and Woobat in the process. Thundurus was unfazed, while Woobat fall to the ground next to the other Woobat. The Woobats slowly got a bit off the ground and started rushing away.
"We did it you, perfect little spark.", Rosa said as she caught Panspark in her arms. "That was a mighty discharge. So, you are an electric type I guess. Definitely not a Pansage, then.", Rosa added.
"Pan. Pa. Panspark.", Panspark said with a big grin on their face. As Rosa and Panspark embraced each other, Thundurus slowly flew away and disappeared in the clouds above.
"Thank you, mighty blue Pokemon from the sky!", Rosa screamed into the air. "What a strange day.", she continued. After a deep sigh, Rosa addressed Panspark. "Let's get back to Leo, he and Kabs are probably worried about us," Rosa said. Rosa got off the ground and Panspark climbed onto her shoulder. She then started walking back in the direction they came from.
From a rainy cloud in the sky, Thundurus watched Rosa and Panspark start their journey. . .
