This story takes place after The One With Rachel's Date ….. In Season 8, Episode 5.

Backstory: A couple of weeks before Monica and Chandler's wedding, The Geller Family planned a family trip to a beach house in Long Island, New York to celebrate Monica and Chandler's big milestone. They planned to go three weeks after the wedding which took place on May 15.

It's three weeks after the wedding ( June 5) and all of them have gathered in Monica and Chandler's Apartment to discuss their traveling plans.

Are you sure you're not going to be able to make the trip? - Monica

Yeah, I'm so sorry my family has had this trip planned for weeks, it'll be the first time all of us have been together in one room since….. Well I don't even remember. - Rachel

Man… your gonna be so missed, but i'll take pictures, so you don't miss a thing - Monica

Or we could record every moment of each day, so she won't miss a second - Chandler

This comment earned a glare from Monica and Awkward Silence from everyone else in the room.

….or not. Honey I'm going to double check we didn't forget anything. - Chandler

Good choice - Monica

All right everyone else be ready by seven O'clock tomorrow, we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow - Monica

Suddenly everybody left the living room of the apartment to prepare for the trip except Ross and Rachel, who sat there in awkward silence for a good minute or two.

Sooo…. Are you excited to spend time with your family all together for the first time in forever - Ross

Um.. I think it's either going to be really disastrous or hopefully surprisingly enjoyable - Rachel

Ever since Ross found out that Rachel was pregnant with his child, they both couldn't help but notice a difference in their relationship. It wasn't like the time they broke up, and they had mixed emotions for each other. One minute they couldn't help but think about what they could've been if that fateful night happened and wished that they could just be in the other's arms, while other times all they saw for each other was red. No this was a different feeling, a feeling that was almost indescribable.

A few minutes of Silence passed them by again which was almost undetectable because they were so wrapped up in their own thoughts, but suddenly a voice interrupted their thought process.

Guys... don't you think it's a bit late - Chandler

They both turned to look at the clock to see it was almost eleven at night, so much time had passed them by.

Oh..- Ross

Yea… I should go get ready for bed - Rachel

Rachel soon found herself in the hallway between her, Joey, Monica, and Chandler apartments. As Rachel turned her key in the door she heard a voice coming from behind her.

Rachel slowly turned around to see Ross standing right behind her.

Yea.. - Rachel

I know we haven't really spoken about our current situation, but if you ever need anything don't be afraid to let me know - Ross said in a soft and shy voice

Thanks.. - Rachel said looking into his eyes

Steadily they both started to walk closer to each other and soon the tip of their noses were almost touching. Gradually their breathing started to pick up, and as their lips were about to meet, the door to Rachel's apartment flew open.

Rach do you know where…..- Immediately Joey sensed the mood and stopped in mid-sentence

Um, I think I got what was in your hair - Ross said trying to play off what happened

Thanks, I'll see you guys in the morning - Rachel

Goodnight Joey, Nite Ross - the end of her sentence seemed to linger on her tongue as she walked into her apartment.

Ross watched Rachel as she slowly walked away and closed the door to her bedroom. He couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if Joey didn't enter the hall. Maybe he would've been walking into her bedroom with her, maybe he would've asked to go down to the coffee house, or maybe it would've just complicated their situation even more. All of these possibilities he forced to the back of his brain.

Soo umm what happened there - Joey said with a small smirk on his face

Nothing, really she had something in her hair and being a her friend I got it out for her - Ross

This answer seemed to be a good enough answer for Joey although he knew that in reality something bigger was there, but he decided not to pry.
