Godzilla: The Planet Eater

Both Must Fall: The Hollow Earth

A/N: ChimaTigon was a primary among those that suggested this possibility. This will probably be the last chapter, but it progresses into something new that follows after it.

It was a sign. A sign that hope was returning to the world. As more landing ships descended from the sky, bringing along those left on the Aratrum, Martin returned to the Houtua tribe and found they were tending to another giant egg, different from the one they had seen once before they left to Mt. Fuji and discovered Mechagodzilla City. Maybe not everything would be like it was before, but they knew the truth about the monsters now.

No, they knew the truth about the Titans now. They knew that while Earth was a planet that was once ruled by creatures that were viewed by ancient cultures and societies of people as the original gods, most of the giants they had witnessed had, in fact, been benevolent and were able to restore the planet once the real Godzilla had re-established his reign as the alpha of them all. And now, there was hope that the planet would be returned back to a semblance of its original state before the parasitic doppelgänger usurped the position as the alpha Titan from Godzilla. This was what the people were hoping for, anyway.

They were calling it a battle axe. That was what it resembled due to its shape. There was a trace of radiation from it that seemed comparable to Godzilla's, but to a lesser degree. This, combined with the fact that it had been what helped lead to Ghidorah's second demise, made it such a mystery to them as they setup a small base around it.

"Anything new yet?" Adam asked Yuko as they were inside one of the landing ships.

"The remaining Bilusaludo, while still upset about the loss of Mechagodzilla City, were at least happy to know that they could still come back to Earth," she explained to him, holding a container of inactive Nanometal. "There's been no sign of the fake Godzilla's aberrant progeny in the last seventy-two hours…and come check out this plant sample we brought onboard."

He came over and saw a small container of one of the plants that had been altered by the fake's radiation and DNA. It didn't look like it was any different from before they returned to the planet. But then Yuko took a regular knife and cut one of its leaves off. The leaf didn't break the blade, even by a small degree.

"It's returning to normal?" He asked her.

"The radiation unleashed by Godzilla when he defeated Ghidorah seems to have caused a widespread neutralization of the radiation and pseudo-G-cells. Whatever remained of the plant's original genome survived when the creature's radiation was removed. It's the same with the soil samples we collected two days ago. The strontium levels used to be high enough that any plants growing from the ground were all unsafe to eat, but after reviewing the samples as of this morning, the soil seems almost like its nutrients and minerals are having a revolution to regain control. If we're fortunate, then this means that within a month, along with Anti-Nuclear Bacteria usage, we should be able to grow food like before."

"That's great…but what about the axe?"

"That's a different story. It seems connected to a place Monarch found called the Hollow Earth."

"So, it really does exist?"

"Yes, and it's not easy to get to."

"Why?"

Entrance to the Hollow Earth was difficult due to this gravitational inversion field. Any attempts to bypass the field with any vehicles not suited to handle the inversion would be crushed by the full force of the Earth's gravity, killing anyone inside it. Because of this and the fact that information on the Hollow Earth was unknown to them all at the time made the remaining Bilusaludo hesitant to build anything to travel to and from an environment that was completely unknown to them. It wasn't that they were fearful of what could be down there…but that they were unprepared to go right now and were involved in the reclamation operation now that the Godzilla doppelgänger was no more.

"…The Monarch files from the archives on the submarine were a boon in understanding now what we didn't know then," went Mori as he stood in front of the ruins of Mt. Fuji where the original and replicated Mechagodzilla production facility once resided. "How did such knowledge slip away from us?"

"It's anyone's guess," said Adam as he and Haruo were with him as security. "It's still a good thing that we found that sub and were able to revive the real Godzilla; we haven't seen him since that immense battle, but he's keeping the other creatures, the other Titans, in check. The one that usurped his position as the alpha was an invasive species that only preferred one thing that added up to its own survival, and that was to dispose of all other organisms."

"Like a parasite," Haruo stated. "A poisonous one."

"And now, there's this talk about a…Hollow Earth beneath our feet?" Mori questioned.

"Monarch had ventured there long ago and studied what creatures they could find there. Supposedly, one of the Titans that used to reside on this Skull Island was relocated there by Monarch after the island became unlivable. It's likely that the weapon we found that may been what led to Godzilla's victory against Ghidorah came from the Hollow Earth, implying that the Titan from that time, like Godzilla, may still be alive."

In the ocean depths below the surface of the planet, finding a new cave where his ancestors had once dwelled, laying beside a thermal vent to feed off the radiation it gave off, Godzilla drifted off to sleep for the time being. It had been a considerably long time since he had been able to rest without its previous injuries hampering him, and after defeating his hideous doppelgänger and his ancient rival all over again, this was a rest he felt he had earned. Just until his minor injuries had recovered and he would be out there, restoring the balance of the planet that had been devastated by his doppelgänger…and the others would be there to ensure the balance was restored, too.

Two months had passed. Two months since their return, since the fall of both the false Godzilla and Ghidorah…and no sign of the false Godzilla's offshoots since that unimaginable day. The radiation levels had subsided during that time, much quicker than originally anticipated, and most of the flora affected by the hazardous radiation had been replaced by the original flora that mankind recognized for generations. When a landing ship flew across the ocean towards China, observing the ruins of the Great Wall, they could see one of the Titans recorded by Monarch knuckle-walking across the terrain. It was the Titan known as Behemoth, or a descendant of the previous Behemoth, based on the sight of its tusks looking smaller and less curved than the ones seen from before.

Wherever it went, it left a trail of radiation and excrement that affected the plant life enough to grow faster, and it was the crew aboard the landing that was tasked with studying this phenomenon in order to ascertain whether or not the fruits and vegetables generated by the irradiated flora were safe for consumption and distribution. But that wasn't the only reason they were heading to China. The research into the subsided radiation, the restoration caused by the radiation given off by these benevolent creatures, and the location of a former entryway to the Hollow Earth that seemed to have been sealed up after it was built shortly before a situation went south and then was resolved.

None of the remaining Bilusaludo members could deny that their interest in the Hollow Earth was getting to them. It was purely a scientific interest, but it fit in with the interests of the humans to venture into a new domain they haven't been in for over twenty-thousand years. There was the hope that by retrofitting one or two of the landing ships with Nanometal, they could proceed to travel into the Hollow Earth without the gravitational inversion being a threat going back and forth. It was fortunate that they were able to revitalize their source of Nanometal to upgrade two ships in order to achieve this venture.

"It should take about two days before these two ships are able to travel through to the Hollow Earth," one of them informed Adam, who was relaying this information to Haruo and Yuko.

"Thank you, sir," he replied.

"What else do you suppose could be down there?" Yuko questioned Haruo as they looked at one of the ships being modified to travel into the Hollow Earth.

"Historical evidence lost because of the running and fighting," he answered; after all the fighting with the monsters ceased and the people were starting to rebuild wherever they could, Haruo was hoping that they would also find more information down in the Hollow Earth that would back up what Monarch knew about it before the Godzilla doppelgänger arrived. "Who knows for certain? We may even find signs that some people lived within the Hollow Earth…before and after rediscovering its existence."

"People living in a land where there were Titans everywhere? That sounds almost impossible to believe in because of the unpredictable behavior of most of the Titans."

"It's only a possibility. As of now, nothing is for sure until we go down there."

"Guys!" They heard Martin as he ran over to them. "We have visitors!"

"Who?" Haruo asked, and saw the twins, Maina and Miana. "Welcome."

"They have a message to give from their village."

"What message?" Yuko asked, greeting the twins.

"The world under," they heard the twins say. "Dangers and wonders. Blessings under light."

"Dangers and wonders?" Haruo responded, confused.

"Blessings under light?" Yuko went, just as confused.

"Apparently, they're letting us know that what we should expect when we go down there," Martin suspected, "that there's danger, but there's also beauty. We might even find something we didn't expect to see down there."

"The land below, a king's throne," the twins added.

It was one thing to see a Behemoth wandering around spreading radiation across the terrain, causing beneficial floral growth, but it was another thing to see not just one Titanus Methuselah…but five of them, the other four half as big as the one in front of them, leading across the ocean, widespread flora growing on their backs, was something else altogether amazing. The mere sight of them, learning that there was more than one now, another sign that the Earth was returning to its previous state now that Godzilla had reclaimed his position as the alpha Titan…was impressive to the people in the landing ship that were observing the reforestation process and recording the new geographical layouts. That and a periodic glimpse of Titanosaurus as it swam nearby, leaving behind paths of clear water as these buildups of algae piled up and were devoured by the group of Methuselahs.

"What do you think?" A woman asked a man as they recorded the scene of the Titan group consuming the algae in the ocean water.

"I'm thinking I can't believe I once hated these creatures because of a monster we were led to believe was Godzilla," he responds. "But now…now I can't even remember why I hated these magnificent creatures that never did anything to intentionally harm people. And they're actually proving beneficial to our survival and rebuilding. We've learned more in the few last days than what we've learned in our entire lives. I hope that in a few more years, we'll be somewhere close to a semblance of where we used to be and can just…be happy."

"Yeah. Same here."

The ship flew a little higher and went past the Methuselahs just as Rodan appeared higher in the sky, leaving a path of embers that dissipated four seconds after being shed off his back and wings, like a reptile shedding its old scales to accommodate new ones underneath.

-x-

They were as ready as they were going to be now. The located entrance to the Hollow Earth had been rediscovered, the two ships retrofitted to travel into the Hollow Earth were completed, and the goal to enter the primordial birthplace of the Titans was underway.

"Are you ready to proceed, Haruo?" Mori asked on a screen; the first retrofitted ship would go in first with the second ship serving as a rescue ship in case something went wrong.

"We're ready," he answered. "Let's go."

The ship's engine roared to life as it lifted off the ground. The entrance they located in Hong Kong, China, while still intact, had enlarged over the centuries, becoming wide enough that a ship could squeeze through.

"Good luck," Mori told the people aboard the ship.

It flew up, turned around, aimed for the entrance…and flew into the ground.

"Status report?" Haruo demanded.

"So far so good," a female Bilusaludo informed of the structural integrity of the modified ship as it went down through the tunnel.

Rumble! The ship made a few hits against the walls of the tunnel, but held as it continued its descent through.

"Spatial distortion up ahead," went Yuko. "Impact in twenty seconds."

Haruo looked up ahead and saw a strange light in front of the ship that seemed to be a part of the tunnel. It was almost psychedelic, shades of red, blue, green, white and purple.

"Impact in three…two…one," Yuko called out. "Brace!"

FLASH! The ship made contact with the distortion…and everyone aboard felt the most intense nausea they had ever experienced in their lives.

"Haaurgh!" A man behind Haruo puked his stomach contents out.

"Shiest!" A woman cursed as she wiped blood off from under her nose.

Haruo felt like his ears were being hit with shrieking from all sides, and then the silence returned, along with the calmness that settled in his gut. Looking up, he saw…sunlight. Further away, he could see clouds and sky.

"Where are we?" He questioned.

"We're here," went Yuko. "It's the Hollow Earth."

As the ship flew across the rediscovered terrain, the people aboard could see that it was…like something out of a dream. There was water in rivers and mountains, a vast forest…and above them…almost a reflection of the world under them, except that it was within their reach. The ship flew low enough to stay out of the reach of the gravitational pull just above them as it flew out to observe and transmit what they were seeing to the other ship in Hong Kong.

"It's beautiful," Yuko expressed; after twenty-thousand years away, she was glad to see something untouched by the Godzilla doppelgänger and the ravages of conflict. "Beautiful."

Haruo had to agree with her. Although this was the first time any of them had ever been to the Hollow Earth, it was something they could enjoy viewing for a brief moment. For now, there was no danger that could be see.

"Are y'all seeing this?" He asked on the communications channel.

"We're seeing it, Haruo," responded Martin on the other end. "It's amazing."

To be continued…

A/N: I hope those that waited for this chapter will be impressed by it until the next one can be made sometime in the future. I think the fact that I had more than one member of the Titanus Methuselah species should imply that there is more to come. Stay active, creative and see y'all later on.
