A/N: This story will be compiled with oneshots, and this first chapter is to kick things off. Also, this story will be marked as complete, but that doesn't mean I'm done with it, I may add on to it at random times.
Important Note: What if Loki had been banished to Midgard alongside Thor in the first movie, but instead landed in New York?
….
"Mister? Excuse me? Sir?"
The voice brought Loki back to consciousness, and he stared up dazedly at the blurred form hovering over his head. He squinted, and blinked a few more times before his vision finally cleared. A small boy leaned over him, brown locks of hair shadowing over his forehead from the angle he was at. The child's innocent, brown eyes watched him worriedly, and he didn't know a person of his age could hold so much concern for a stranger. He frowned at the child, and the boy mimicked his look.
"Mister? Are … are you okay?" The young voice came again, closer that time.
"You are much too close to my face for liking," he said calmly, though there was an edge of warning in his tone.
"Oh." Those big brown eyes widened, and the child jerked away, his hands up in front of him. "I am so sorry, sir," he apologized, his expression painfully Ernest.
Loki pushed himself up to sitting, and the boy scooted back a little more. He eyed the child for a moment, then shifted his gaze to flick his eyes around at his surroundings. He was sitting on a patch of grass, and he seemed to be in a park of sorts. Trees surrounded them, and beyond those were looming towers that reflected the sun off their metal and glass facades. He returned his stare to the boy, his eyebrows coming down into a deep, confused frown. "What is this place?" He demanded, and the child seemed to shrink under his intense gaze.
"Uh … Queens? Queens New York?" The boy stuttered, bunching his shirt in his hands that had a red and yellow face on the front with seemingly glowing eyes.
"New York?" Loki asked, and the boy nodded quickly, some strands of hair falling in his face. The name was familiar, and he came to a conclusion in a matter of seconds. "Midgard then?" He asked, and the boy looked up at him in confusion.
"What's that?" His nose wrinkled as his eyebrows came together, and Loki couldn't help the huff that left him at the expression.
"You don't know your own realm?" He asked incredulously, a small smirk appearing on his face.
"Realm?" The boy's face brightened, and he gestured without reason as he straightened on his knees. "I learned about those in my history class!" He exclaimed exuberantly. "You mean earth, right? Midgard equals earth?" He asked, his eyes ablaze.
Loki didn't know why, but a chuckle left him, a flawless eyebrow going up. He never quite liked children, especially none that were much like Thor, but this boy seemed to be different, there was just something about him that drew his interest. "Yes," he confirmed, not caring at the moment that his father had sent him to Midgard for an unexplained reason.
The boy bounced a little, a grin splitting across his small face. "Yes!" He cheered, every inch of him showing vibrant glee.
Loki forced down a smile of his own, and got to his feet, offering the boy a hand. "What is your name, child?" He asked once they were both standing, the boy barely reaching the bottom of his ribcage.
"I'm Peter," the boy introduced, holding out a small hand. "What's yours?"
Loki took a hold of Peter's wrist, his fingers wrapping all around the boy's thin arm, and Peter did the same, though his hand only went around halfway. "Loki," he returned, deeming it unnecessary to tell the child his titles.
Peter beamed up at him, and he couldn't help but smile back. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Loki," Peter said, and Loki's eyebrows went up slightly in amusement.
"And the same goes to you, Peter." He nodded, then let go of the boy's wrist to fold his arms behind his back. Normally his arms would be folded in front of him in a show of superiority, but he felt that wasn't needed for the innocent boy.
"Peter?" A feminine voice called in the near distance, and the said boy's face fell, and oddly enough, Loki missed the smile.
"What's wrong, child?" He asked softly, and Peter sighed, his eyes downcast.
"I have to go, but I really don't want to," he said sadly, his bottom lip sticking out in a small pout.
Loki snorted, and gave him a light shove. "Run along, Peter, you don't want to keep her waiting."
The boy reluctantly took a few steps away, but turned to look up at him with the largest puppy dog eyes he'd ever seen. "Will I ever see you again?"
The words were spoken quietly, but Loki heard every word. He was rendered silent for a few moments, staring blankly at this greatly unaware boy. No one had ever gazed upon him with that amount of care, and hope for his return other than his mother, and the suddenness of it hit him like Sif's fist. That look was rare, never mind from a Midgardian who'd never met him, and he couldn't help but stare at the child in wonderment. The boy shifted awkwardly under his gaze, and lowered his head self consciously, but still peered up at him with those imploring irises. Loki found himself nodding before he could properly think over what he was doing. "Yes, I am sure our paths will meet again," he said, and the growing feeling of possibly failing this boy was worth the bright smile he got in return.
Peter turned toward where the woman's voice was coming from, but seemed to make a split second decision before turning back around. Before Loki knew what was happening, the boy was running over, wrapping his arms around his waist, and pressing the side of his face into his stomach. He froze instinctually, but didn't have time to react before Peter was already pulling away, and running out of the small clearing. "Bye, Mr. Loki!" He called over his shoulder, and Loki watched him go, a small smile forming on his typically emotionless face.
He would see the boy again. He would make sure of that.

A/N: One and done! Wow, this didn't take as long to write as I thought it would, lol. Even with short stories like this it takes me a while to write, and this only took me like, two days. I'm pretty proud of myself, lol.
I hope you guys liked it.
