Chapter 4

Parenthood

"Johnny I promise you. I'm being a responsible parent." Evyn reassures her boyfriend over the cell-phone. "The kids will be fine."

"You took them to a cult infested city who worships your demon father as a god. How is that being a responsible parent Evyn?!" Johnny shouts over the phone.

Evyn flinches at his yelling, pulling the phone a little away from her ear. She looks up at her brother who has an amused look on his face. Evyn rolls her eyes and brings her phone back to her ear. "You really are getting the hand of this parenthood. I'm proud of you boo."

Johnny sighs at his girlfriend. "Just…tell me your kids are with you."

"Come on Johnny you should know me." Evyn sighs shaking her head. "They are somewhere…in Fortuna…alone."

"What?! What kind of mother are you?! You left your kids alone in a cult infested city who worships your demon father as a god! Not only that, but your daughter is wanted by the UN! What the hell Evyn?!" Johnny shouts over the phone.

Evyn flinches once more rolling her eyes. "Johnny, it's okay. They'll be fine. Just think it this way. They have each other, they both know the other's strength and weakness. Pietro is protective of his sister, and Wanda knows what she's doing. This is basically to see how much they have grown."

"You do realize if Wanda awakens her devil trigger with you not there, Pietro might not be able to control her." Johnny states.

"It won't come to that. Wanda has been on even more threatening missions with the Avengers. Demons are a piece of cake." Evyn shrugs. She stops at the sudden appearance of a treeline. "The hell?"

"What is it, babe?"

"I'll call you later…" Evyn ends the call and walks up to her brother looking over the treeline, then back to the cave that led to snow.

Dante shook his head and walked right through the treeline.

Wanda shakes her head as her brother and Nero continue on bickering.

"I don't see the logic in that. Red Queen is any swordmen dream." Nero scoffs. "Her sie might be too large for any normal person, but her power makes up for it."

Pietro shakes his head at that. "Please. Reverence here can put your Red Queen to shame. Sure she doesn't have that motorcycle gear, but let's face it. She doesn't need that since you know size isn't everything."

Wanda rolls her eyes at the two boys. "First it was their guns, now it's their swords. What's next?"

Nero stops once they got through the cave, a frown forming on his lips as he walked closer to the cliff edge. "A forest?"

"Weren't we just walking through some snow?" Pietro asks with a frown.

"We were." Wanda nods her head.

Suddenly, a sigh was heard from the left causing Nero and Pietro to draw out their gun. Pietro, however, lowered his gun as soon as he saw the familiar silver hair and red coat.

"What the hell is this?" Dante groans looking over the cliff at the forest. "We were just in the mountains right?"

"You're asking me?" Evyn asks walking out of the tree line to stand next to her brother. "You were the one who was leading."

Dante sighs again shaking his head. "Must be the effect of the gate." He turns around and smiles at his niece and nephew's confused look, then looks over at Nero.

Evyn turns her head to look at her kids and winks at them before jumping off the cliff.

"Well, sorry kid. This gonna have to wait." Dante winks at his niece and nephew before leaping off the cliff.

Wanda looks up at her brother. "It's clear they know more about what's going on than we do."

"Clearly." Pietro muttered putting his gun, Scarlet, away. "Nero, we should go."

Nero turns to look at the twins before sighing. "Right." He puts Blue Rose away. "Let's find a way done."

"Well, they're alive." Evyn shrugs pushing a tree branch away from her. "And a friend."

Dante snorts at that. "Yeah. How much damage you think they'll do?"

"Who knows." Evyn shrugs. "I just hope that punk doesn't get my kids killed."

Dante chuckles at that. "Oh, so Blaze was wrong. You are a responsible parent."

"Thank you for agreeing with me." Evyn sighs shaking her head. "Parenthood is tough. How did mom do it?"

Dante shrugs his shoulders at that. "It can't be that bad."

"You want to switch?" Evyn asks standing in front of her brother.

"I'm okay being an uncle." Dante smiles patting his sister's shoulder.
