Summary: RED Engineer and BLU Spy tried to hide their relationship from their teammates and employer. One day on the battlefield, they were caught in the act.
Being in love is already hard enough, knowing that maybe you're not worthy of that love. It's even harder, knowing that your lover is the person you were supposed to hate and kill because of some sibling war.
Dell, an engineer working for Reliable-Excavation-and-Demolition, more widely known as RED, was currently experiencing that problem. Day after day, he goes out to battle and fights for his life, though knowing that he'll come back alive because of the Respawn Machine, he still dreads the feeling of death.
He probably stopped dreading a while ago. Now, he's trying to focus on helping his teammates cap a point, steal intelligence, or push the cart, mainly by protecting it from the enemy team.
Engineer is a very level-headed person; no one ever sees him lash out with extreme rage. That was when a particular someone kept hanging around him. It was a spy, the BLU Spy.
Everyone knows that the Engineers have a strong distaste for spies, always sapping their sentries and annoying them. Snipers hate them too because of the backstab.
During battles, the BLU spy seems to always stick to wherever the Engineer goes. It annoys the heck out of him and always has himself on high alert to avoid a backstab or shooting him in the head before he starts sapping any of his sentries. Oddly, the spy never does any of that.
He only hung around the Engineer, leaning on the dispenser and smoking his cigarette. Dell was pretty sure that he had somewhere else to be and something else to do, like stealing the RED's intelligence, capping a point, or pushing the cart. He didn't seem to do any of that when the Engineer was in sight.
Engineer thinks that he was plotting something, something that will undoubtedly lead to the RED team's failure. Engineer confronted him about it after beating him up. Spy didn't try to deny anything, not even his intention to be acquainted with the Engineer.
One thing led to another. Soon, the two became quite familiar with each other and even talked during battles. Spy always managed to cloak and hide himself when a RED teammate rounded the corner to a dispenser or a teleporter. Dell managed to play it off; neither of their teams suspected a thing.
Their friendship stayed hidden for the longest time. Dell would usually spare glances across the battlefield and then go hide in the corner that no one would bother looking. Spy would show up right afterwards, usually holding an unlit cigarette, only then to light it. He could've always done that before he came.
When Dell least expected it, Spy had shared a kiss with him during one of the battles. Dell was quite in shock. Spy left the RED engineer unmoving until the timer ran out. Dell confronted the spy the next time they came face to face. The confrontation was rather violent, leading the spy to think that Engineer might have wanted to kill him at that moment. Engineer didn't; he only gave Spy a rather shy kiss on his lips and left immediately.
They both purposely ignored each other for the next few weeks after the awkward kiss, fearing that the other might be having second thoughts about their newfound relationship.
The two men met up after those weeks, deciding that if they wanted to continue this relationship, they would need to keep it a secret. Then, their relationship began. When their respective teams weren't paying them any attention, Engineer and Spy would sneak off to a corner and have a chat together, sharing occasional teasing kisses.
This time is no different from the other times. The engineer had just finished building a sentry where the demoman had requested. Fixing his goggles back up on his nose bridge, he decided that he needed a break. Going down to the ground area under Teufort, he set his Rancho Relaxo down and leaned back, waiting for his partner to show up.
It didn't take very long. Before Engineer knew it, Spy was standing next to his chair, leaning his elbow on the chair's head, smoking a cigarette.
"Hey Spook," Engineer greeted the masked man casually, taking another swing of his beer bottle.
"Greetings, laborer. You've changed our meeting location again, haven't you?" Spy said in his low, sort of attractive voice.
Engineer just nodded, not saying another word. They both stayed there in a comfortable silence, spared from the gunshots and explosions from above. Engineer looked up at Spy, admiring the masked man. Such a subtle action could not have alerted Spy, but it did. Engineer diverted his gaze immediately after being caught staring.
Spy turns his head, now staring down at the shorter man. He smiles, a small and sly smile. Extinguishing his cigarette, he tosses it somewhere on the ground and leans down, capturing Engineer's lips in a soft, tender kiss.
Dell smiles softly into the kiss, his hand reaching up to caress Spy's face. The kiss was short, Spy pulling away before Engineer could even react. He found himself smiling at Spy, his hand still in its previous position. "Are you teasing me right now?" Dell asked with a sarcastic chuckle.
Spy shakes his head, surprisingly, and makes his way to the foot of Engineer's Rancho Relaxo. He stares down at Dell with an unreadable expression, making Dell question his intentions.
The next thing Dell knew was that they were both devouring each other. Spy sat neatly in his lap, both of his hands cupped the engineer's face, sliding his goggles off and placing them next to the beer bottles, careful not to knock any over.
The kiss turned from tender and sweet to heated and filled with hunger. Spy was pressing their bodies ever closer together, occasionally rolling his hips. Dell was still not sure how they got here in the first place.
"Spy," Dell gasped between kisses, saliva dripping down from the corner of his mouth. "I... I don't think we should be doing this.. not on the battlefield." His objection was silenced by Spy biting his lower lip, inching his body closer and closer to the engineer's. That was all it took for Dell's reasonable side to shut up.
"Mmph?" A muffled sound came from behind Spy, catching both men off guard. Engineer looked over Spy's shoulder to find Pyro, the RED Pyro, standing there with his flamethrower in hand. He was about to light the Spy on fire, but considering the situation, he decided to question him first.
"Oh, Pyro! Buddy, hey!" Engineer said in a panic, shoving Spy almost forcefully off of himself to go explain to his teammate. Spy luckily got off in a swift motion and received very little impact from the push, now standing awkwardly next to the Rancho Relaxo.
"Don't worry, he promised not to tell... Though I doubt the others would even understand." The engineer said with a slight chuckle, trying to dismiss the awkward and tense air between them.
Spy frowned, but he wasn't mad. He leaned down, holding Engineer by his shirt collar and pulled him into a rough kiss. "Shall we meet at my place later then, Dell?" Spy whispered against his lips before pulling away, his expression stern.
AN: Thank you for reading this first chapter, I hope you all enjoyed it.
Please read the dialogues in their voice and accent. Even if I had wanted to write them accurately to how they sound, I just can't.
