Robbie was wondering why he was having so much trouble in life. It wasn't like he'd expected much. Just his shot, and maybe someone, someone cute, be willing to love him. Instead, he found himself caught up in a relationship out of his control.
"You ready?" Hope asked. The bossy girl had become his girlfriend, then his lover, and finally his wife, all without him doing much more then showing up. The bitchy girl wasn't as picky as he'd thought, choosing to accept his courting by proxy up until he was swept along in the tide of this romance. 'Cat, you should have given me another chance? I get it, the guy was hot, and so confident. But you needed someone like me, someone who would worship you…'
"Robbie, remember, tonight, if your really good, I may let you be on top." Hope reminded him. He knew she'd never do it. The fact that they slept together was surprising enough, but he was apparently coach-able in the right ways, and she came to really enjoy sleeping with him. So much so that, for what he was sure was the first time in recorded history, a straight man was trying to have a night off from the constant sex.
"Sure thing, honey." He replied, knowing the right thing to say to the rich girl who had married him in order to have him as her kept man. 'No one ever told me life could end up like this…'
Worse, from his perspective, was Rex often took her side. The fact that she was able to shift from being horrified by the puppets existence to being an ally with the wooden man had boggled the boys mind. But Rex appreciated the nicer things, the way she seemed to be willing to lavish both attention and gifts on the both of them, as well as the many dates she'd set the manikin up on. (In reality, she had friends who would sit the puppet, not worrying about the kinds of stories he might be telling his friends, just because they understood who and what Rex was. It was the two different girls who both admitted to sleeping with the puppet that worried the socialite.)
"And wear the watch I got you." She added. "I want you looking sharp tonight."
"Who we meeting?" He wondered. Hope was way image conscious.
"No one." The rich girl giggled. "But I do love seeing you all dressed up. It helps me get into the mood." Her face hardened. "And for the record, you'd better be getting me in the mood. I'm not gonna have to clean your ass up again when I need some stress relief. So yea, lets get this day going. Jade said she's looking forward to lunch with you, so I'll leave you to your morning while I go deal with work."
Robbie smiled, but inwardly he again wondered if he was a pawn in the goths games. She somehow not only acquired a recording contract with RPX, but often worked with management, making videos for them, and even becoming Hopes right hand woman as his wife started taking over, all while maintaining her roll as a music artist. 'Only, of all the things Jade had to bargain with, why me? Why'd she arrange for me to date, and then marry, my beautiful and sexually over-driven harpy? I mean, why…' his mind couldn't find a single reason, so he did what he always did at times like this, he gave up, focusing instead on the list of busy work he was allowed to do to fill his day between Hopes needs. That was up until his wife decided she was ready for a family, when he'd become the stay at home parent…
Hope, for her part, sighed as she walked out, thinking again of how lucky she got, winning the perfect boy for her. 'He has no idea that there's no perfect man for everyone.' She reminded herself. 'Had no idea that I needed someone like him, a guy who can be the girl in the relationship. This way, I get the support I need.' Her brown eyes glanced back at the large home they shared. 'Yea, gonna be hard for me, filling that place up. But I can do it. I can do anything, prove to dad that, with Jade's help, I can do everything he wanted a son for.'
She got into her car, enjoying the sense of driving herself. 'I had to change so much, grow up so much, in order to be more then daddies little embarrassment. But I'm doing it, I'm proving I'm his child, running RPX far better then he'd have expected. Better then he did. I just, I needed help, and Robbie, he should understand, he's exactly what I need in a man. Love and support. Plus, how many guys get lucky enough to have a lover like me, willing to do it all the fucking time. The stresses of my job, having a malleable man like my Rob, those two go so well together."
Hope drove off to her job, loving the swapping of roles, unaware that she was making the same kind of mistake that Jade's dad, and so many others, made. She needed her lover, was deeply in love, and yet, never once thought to tell him. Maybe she was afraid of losing the edge in their relationship, maybe she just never thought she had to tell, but she had been losing her relationship, one piece at a time, up until Jade stepped in again and fixed the two of them.
In that respect, Hope was blessed, because she had resources others needed, like a position for Jade, and a life for Robbie, that let them work their way past the Hope of the past. This Hope Quincy, she was different, and would save her marriage because there were people who's best interests were in helping her see that Rob may not be in his perfect romance, but she was with the best possible man for her.

Hope this was fun to read. Yes, it's a little dark, in an odd, twisted way. But not that bad, and Robbie has a happy future. Just, wow, this was interesting to write.
