(Greetings Pokémon community, I'm just someone who's been getting into the series this last year, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon in particular, despite having never played a single game. I have however been watching and reading a lot of different stories and wanted to explore it in my own way. For this story here I wanted to explore a concept I've had: every single species combination of Player and Partner being canon (because of Everyone's playthroughs being unique), all at once. Of course They can only be one pairing at a time, and no one could possibly notice them changing, not even themselves ... BUT, what if there was someone out there who could see the Protagonists Flickering Forms? This is an experiment to me in several ways, including using the Second-Person viewpoint. Feel free to give your critiques and such, and correct any mistakes I may make due to not actually playing the series.)
Part 1: Team Pokepals
Pokémon Square was not the largest settlement on the Air Continent, heck many of the shopkeepers' stores even doubled as their homes. This meant that you knew everyone who passed through the town, and when the amnesiac skitty and their treecko friend set up their home on the outskirts before joining the Rescue Organization, they quickly drew a lot of attention, however good it was. You thought of introducing yourself, but the duo seemed pretty exhausted after each mission, each one taking a day, so you thought better of bothering the up-and-coming heroes.
A few days later is when things started getting strange, as the newly dubbed Team Pokepals had just previously finished a rescue at Mt. Silver, saving a diglett that was kidnapped by a rogue skarmory (though the logistics of how a steel-type bird could capture a burrowing 'Mon escaped your thoughts). The following day though, Team Pokepals were ... changed, gone was the skitty and treecko, replaced with with a mudkip and a charmander. No one around the Square commented on this and you would have believed they were a different Team entirely had the duo not kept their team name and home, let alone their still-growing reputation. You thought that finally introducing yourself to them might clear up some confusion, but they seemed completely unaware to their own alterations, going about their day as though they had always been a mudkip and charmander. Perhaps this was some weird dream and everything would return to normal tomorrow.
It was no dream though, as Team Pokepals stepped up to the call to rescue Team Shiftry's titular leader from the talons of Zapdos, and the day after they had traveled to the Great Canyon to meet the elusive Xatu. When you woke up the following morning, it was to a great commotion in the Square ... apparently Gengar of Team Meanies had pinned all of the recent disasters on the former human of the rising heroes, based upon the legend that Elder Whiscash had told regarding a human being cursed by a ninetales. Supposedly, when Team Pokepals had met with Xatu, the mudkip's identity as a former human had been revealed and Gengar had witnessed that. That whole thing didn't make much sense to you, as the recent disasters had started well before the human had first been found by the friend.
What did concern you however was that when Team Pokepals showed up to this meeting, the pair had changed their species again; a pikachu and a squirtle had taken their place. The whole thing felt surreal and you weren't even sure how it was happening. Had Gengar not insisted on the pikachu's identity, you weren't even sure that you'd believe this was the same Team Pokepals you'd seen all week. Unfortunately, before you could even pursue the truth to your dilemma, Gengar had run the duo out of town, convincing everyone that the human's death would restore the world, even getting Team ACT to chase the now-fugitives.
It would be many days later before you could follow up on your curiosity, when Team Pokepals returned to town with such a conviction that Gengar was nearly mobbed as it was revealed that the duo had reached the ninetales of legend and confirmed that the humans were separate of each other. Yet again however were the duo in question species-swapped; now you were looking at a bulbasaur and their cyndaquil companion. Maybe you were going crazy ... there was no possible way such now-famous figures could be constantly transforming and no one would notice that. Worse off was that neither of the two had any difficulties handling their new bodies, it was as they had always been what they now were, but you knew that couldn't be true! You had seen their previous forms with your own eyes, so why were they acting so ... so, normal? It made no sense.
Before you could attempt to approach the heroes and question them, they had already gone back to work and were already on their way to a new Dungeon. Talking to them was starting to feel hopeless; they never seemed to even glance your way, as though you didn't exist. You decided to just go on with your day and hopefully there'd be a chance tomorrow. Unfortunately this was when things started to get worse, namely with the earthquakes plaguing everyone. Apparently Groudon was awakening and all the Rescue Teams had to work to subdue the Legendary, with Team Pokepals taking a stand after ACT failed to return from this task.
As always, they were successful, but then came a harrowing telepathic message from Xatu; a massive meteor was descending upon the world and destruction was imminent. It was natural for you to fear the worst, but of course the ever-brave heroes that were Team Pokepals vowed to ascend the Sky Tower of Rayquaza and convince them to act before it was too late. While they traveled northward, everyone else decided to hike up the Great Canyon and join Xatu in watching the falling meteor; if the end of days was here, you wanted to spend it with everyone you knew ... and alternatively, it would make for an excellent viewing point to watch the meteor get blown to pieces. And while you barely ever left Pokémon Square and knew you'd have to travel through a Mystery Dungeon, with all these other Rescue Teams by your side, you knew there would be no danger.
As the clock to doomsday counted onwards, everyone around the peak waited with bated breath as the meteor drew closer. It was then the miracle struck as promised; the Hyper Beam as clear as day as it tore through the sky and shattered the meteor. The next thing you knew, you were being shielded by your companions as the fragments fell all over the world, and even more surprising was the couple bodies that followed. It was a miracle in of itself that They landed here and in one piece, still in the same bodies you last saw them, and soon everyone gathered around Team Pokepals as they reawakened from standing at the event horizon of the world's near-end.
Celebrations swiftly followed, though no one had brought anything with which to party with, not that that mattered when just living another day was all that counted. Asking the heroes about their previous changes had all but escaped your mind at this point, not that you would've done so around all these others, and unfortunately you weren't about to even get the chance as the once-human bulbasaur started to glow with a golden light, fading away as they announced that in saving the world they now had to leave the world behind and return to their original home, much to the heartbreak of everyone around. The party turned sour as the canyon peak suddenly had one less hero in its presence and a thought came to your mind ... maybe it didn't matter what body a hero had, so long as they could be the hero they needed to be.
(This was originally going to be four parts in one chapter (one for each game), but I decided that it might be better to separate them, so I'll have to upload those individually once they're ready.)
