Kakashi helped her stepped into the shower.
"Leave me for a moment." Sakura whispered.
Kakashi nodded, respecting Sakura's need for a moment of privacy. He stepped out of the bathroom, closing the door gently behind him. The sound of running water echoed in the small space, and Kakashi leaned against the wall, his thoughts consumed by the overwhelming events of the day.
He can't shake the images and the words that Sakura said while being interrogated in the hospital. He wanted to bring her home as soon as possible but they were held up. And even though he understood the need for it, it still doesn't appreciate that Sakura is not given a moment of reprieve.
"Kakashi." Sakumo's voice sounded.
Kakashi looked up as Sakumo entered the room, his face reflecting the concern he felt for his son and daughter-in-law. Sakumo's eyes flickered with a mixture of empathy and sadness, realizing the gravity of the situation.
"I came as soon as I heard." Sakumo said. "I was out of the village for a day. And..." he sighed. "How is Sakura?"
Kakashi sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Physically, she's safe now. But the emotional toll... it's unimaginable."
Sakumo approached Kakashi, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I can't believe Mebuki would do something like this. I mean, sure, she's been abusive, she manipulated you. But do this to Sakura? I never thought she'd go this far."
Kakashi nodded, his expression heavy with a mix of frustration and anger. "She sold Sakura, Dad. For a million ryo. I can't even fathom how someone could do that to their own child." His eyes flashing in anger. "I can't believe I have a monster as my mother-in-law."
Sakumo's grip on Kakashi's shoulder tightened. "Kakashi, listen to me." he implored. "Sakura is the priority now. She's been through hell and back, don't show her this distain. She's going to hate herself more."
Kakashi struggled to keep his rage down, as he can still see her bound and gagged and it's enough for bile to rise from his throat. "I can't, Dad. It's... she's despicable."
Sakumo sighed, understanding the depth of Kakashi's anger and frustration. "I get it, Kakashi. I really do. But Sakura needs you now more than ever. She needs your support, not just physically but emotionally. Save the anger for Mebuki, but don't let it cloud the way you treat Sakura."
Kakashi looked at him surprised at the words his father uttered. "I... I could never... I mean," he cleared his throat. "I'm not mistreating her, Dad. And aside from that one mistake, I would never do it again."
Sakumo nodded, acknowledging Kakashi's commitment. "I believe you, Kakashi. Just remember, she's your wife, and she's hurting. She needs love and understanding now more than ever. Your anger is justified, but it can't be directed at her."
Kakashi sighed, the weight of the situation still pressing down on him. "I know, Dad. It's just hard to wrap my head around all of this. I thought we left the worst behind when we found an understanding. But this, how can we move forward from this?" he asked. "She's... she's..." a look passed through his eyes and Sakumo caught it.
"Are you just with her because you grew up with her?" Sakumo asked him. "Because you knew no one had been with her before you? Is that it, Kakashi? Did you just love her because no one touched her before you?"
Kakashi's eyes widened at his father's probing question. The words hung in the air, causing a momentary silence. The intensity of Sakumo's gaze demanded an honest response, and Kakashi found himself grappling with the weight of his own emotions and the implications of the inquiry.
"No, Dad," Kakashi replied, his voice firm. "It's not about that. I care about Sakura deeply. We've been through a lot together, and I love her for who she is, not just because of our shared past."
Sakumo studied Kakashi's expression, searching for any signs of deception. After a moment, he sighed, seemingly accepting Kakashi's words.
"I just had to be sure," Sakumo said, his tone softer. "Because your words suggested otherwise."
Kakashi felt a pang of frustration and hurt at the implication, "Is that how little you think of me, Dad?" he asked.
Sakumo's expression softened, realizing the impact of his words on Kakashi. He shook his head, "No, Kakashi. It's not about thinking less of you. It's about ensuring that your commitment to Sakura is genuine and not rooted in misconceptions. I want to understand your feelings and motivations, especially in moments like these."
Kakashi, still grappling with the emotions stirred by his father's question, took a deep breath. "I love Sakura for who she is, Dad. It's not about her past or anything like that. We grew up together, faced challenges together, and I genuinely care about her well-being. This situation... it's just hard to comprehend, but my love for her remains unwavering."
Sakumo nodded, acknowledging Kakashi's sincerity. "I believe you, Kakashi. And I apologize if my question seemed accusatory. I know you've faced your own struggles, and I want to make sure you're both on solid ground as you navigate through this."
Kakashi appreciated his father's attempt to understand. "It's alright, Dad. I know this is a difficult situation for everyone. I just... I can't understand how a parent can be that cruel." he intoned. "You never hurt me before, Dad." he said. "We'll aside from the occasional smack for discipline's sake and training. But never too excessive, it's never abusive. You never starved me or fed me rotten food. But Mebuki did to Sakura. And now... this."
Sakumo's eyes softened further, his own pain evident as he listened to Kakashi's words. He sighed, recognizing the stark contrast between his own parenting and the cruelty Sakura had endured.
"Because I love you, son." Sukumo said. "And when you love someone, you want the best for them. I'm not sure about Mebuki though."
Kakashi nodded, appreciating his father's sentiment. The stark contrast between the love and care he received from Sakumo and the cruelty Sakura faced from her own mother weighed heavily on his heart.
"Dad," Kakashi murmured. "I never got to thank you for showing Sakura what a parent should be. Thank you, Dad."
Sakumo's eyes softened, touched by Kakashi's words. He pulled Kakashi into a brief, heartfelt hug, conveying a sense of understanding and support. "You're welcome, Kakashi. It's my duty as a father to provide the love and care you both deserve."
Kakashi, despite the turmoil of the situation, felt a moment of gratitude for the positive influence his father had been in his life. As they pulled away from the embrace, Kakashi looked at Sakumo with a mixture of appreciation and determination.
"We'll get through this, Dad," Kakashi said, his voice resolute. "I won't let Mebuki's actions define our family. Sakura deserves better, and we'll make sure she gets it."
Sakumo nodded in agreement, a proud glint in his eyes. "That's the spirit, Kakashi. Your strength will be crucial in helping Sakura heal and overcoming this dark chapter. Remember, your family is here for both of you."
Kakashi nodded, a sense of determination settling within him. "I won't let Sakura face this alone. We'll face whatever comes our way together."
Sakumo patted Kakashi on the shoulder, a silent affirmation of their shared commitment. "I'll be here for both of you as well. Now, let's focus on getting Sakura through this difficult time and ensuring justice is served."
With a shared understanding, Kakashi and Sakumo exited the room, ready to face the challenges that lay ahead. The bond between father and son strengthened by the trials they faced together.
Sakura finished her shower, the warm water providing a momentary reprieve from the harsh reality outside. As she stepped out of the bathroom, she found Kakashi waiting for her, a towel in hand.
"Ready for that bath?" Kakashi asked, his eyes reflecting a mixture of concern and support.
Sakura nodded, grateful for Kakashi's presence. As they walked towards the bathroom, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. With Kakashi by her side and the support of those who cared, she believed in the strength to overcome the trauma and rebuild their lives.
As Kakashi filled the bathtub, he kept a watchful eye on Sakura, ensuring she felt safe and comfortable. The room was filled with a soothing warmth, a stark contrast to the chilling events that unfolded earlier. Sakura eased into the bath, finding solace in the healing waters.
"Do you want me to leave?" Kakashi asked.
Sakura shook her head. "No. Stay, please."
Kakashi nodded, understanding Sakura's need for comfort and companionship. He sat on the edge of the bathtub, keeping a respectful distance, and offered a gentle smile.
"I'm here, Sakura," Kakashi reassured. "Take your time. There's no rush. I just want to make sure you're okay."
Sakura leaned back in the bath, the warm water enveloping her, providing a sense of comfort that eased some of the tension in her body. She glanced at Kakashi, a mixture of gratitude and vulnerability in her eyes.
"Kakashi," Sakura said after a long time of contemplation and silence. "My mother's interference won't stop here. And as long as I am here, you're never going to have peace." she started. "Let's stop this here, Kakashi."
Kakashi, sensing the gravity of Sakura's words, looked at her with a mix of concern and understanding. The events of the day had already shattered their sense of security, and Sakura's statement hinted at a deeper realization.
"What do you mean, Sakura?" Kakashi asked, his voice gentle yet probing.
Sakura took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. The warmth of the bathwater seemed to provide a protective cocoon, allowing her to speak her truth.
"My mother won't stop until she destroys us, Kakashi," Sakura explained, her gaze fixed on a distant point. "Today was just the beginning. She's capable of anything, and as long as she knows we're together, she'll keep finding ways to hurt us. I can't bear to see you constantly caught in the crossfire of her vendetta."
Kakashi's eyes furrowed in concern as he processed Sakura's words. He understood the complexity of the situation, the deep-rooted issues with Mebuki that seemed to have no end.
"Let's end this here, Kakashi." she said. "Before you get hurt."
Kakashi's heart sank at Sakura's plea. The weight of the situation bore down on him, and he felt a mixture of emotions—sadness, frustration, and a profound desire to protect Sakura.
"Sakura, I can't just abandon you," Kakashi responded, his voice filled with determination. "We face this together. I won't let her tear us apart."
Sakura sighed, the vulnerability in her eyes reflecting the pain she carried. "Kakashi, I love you too much to see you suffer because of me. If we stay together, she'll keep finding ways to hurt us. I can take it if it's just me. But you and Dad? I can't take it if the two of you get hurt because of me."
"Sakura - "
"I'll give her what she wants." Sakura continued. "Maybe if I do, she'll see that I'm already fully paid to all of my perceived debts to her."
Kakashi's brows furrowed in disbelief. "Sakura, you don't owe her anything. You certainly don't owe her your happiness or well-being. Giving in to her demands won't solve anything. It'll only perpetuate the cycle of abuse."
Sakura looked down, her fingers tracing patterns in the water. "I know it sounds crazy, but maybe if I give her what she wants, she'll leave you and Dad alone." she whispered. "She wants money and revenge. If I make a profit big enough for her, maybe she'll stop."
Kakashi's expression tightened with concern. His mind trying to reject what she wanted to say without her saying the exact words. He couldn't fathom the idea of Sakura sacrificing herself to appease her mother's twisted desires. He doesn't want to envision her playing a role to satisfy the sick buyers that Mebuki will definitely send her way, if she does let her mother take control of her life.
The love he felt for her surged, and he leaned in closer, reaching for her hand.
"Sakura, you don't have to do this. We'll find a way to deal with Mebuki, legally if we have to. I won't let you sacrifice yourself for her satisfaction," Kakashi insisted, his voice firm.
Sakura met Kakashi's gaze, her eyes filled with a mixture of determination and sorrow.
"Kakashi, you and Dad are the most important people to me." Sakura said. "And I can't take to watch the two of you being targeted because of me. Tomorrow, I'll present myself to the council and petition to end our marriage."
Kakashi's eyes widened in shock and disbelief at Sakura's proposal. The weight of her words hung in the air, and a profound sense of heartbreak settled in his chest. The love he felt for Sakura clashed with the harsh reality of the situation, and he struggled to find the right words to respond.
"Sakura, no..." Kakashi's voice wavered, his grip on her hand tightening. "I can't let you do that. We can find another way, together. I won't let you sacrifice yourself for me or anyone else."
Sakura looked at Kakashi, tears glistening in her eyes. "Kakashi, I can't bear to see you and Dad suffer because of me. This is the only way I can think of to protect you both."
Kakashi's mind raced, grappling with the overwhelming emotions and the profound sense of helplessness. The bond they shared, the struggles they faced together, now seemed to hang in the balance.
"I won't allow it, Sakura," Kakashi declared, his voice filled with determination. "We'll find a solution, a way to deal with Mebuki without tearing us apart. I won't let her win by breaking us."
Sakura shook her head, a mixture of pain and resolution in her gaze. "Kakashi, please understand. I can't bear to see the people I love getting hurt because of me. This is the only way I can think of to end it."
Kakashi cupped her face in his hands. "Sakura, she'll sell you again. Again and again, she's never going to be satisfied with one sale. I might never see you ever again if you do this."
Sakura's eyes glistened with unshed tears, and her hands trembled slightly in Kakashi's grasp. The depth of her love for him and the desperation to shield him from harm was evident in her every word and gesture.
"I know." she whispered. "But if she leaves you alone. It would be worth it. Maybe this is really what I'm meant to do. At least, I get to be happy even just for a short time, right?" she asked him, her tears flowing ceaselessly. "I got to be happy with you and Dad. It would be enough to sustain me." She said, steeling herself. "If it becomes too much, the memories of you will be my lifeline."
"No." Kakashi whispered. "No." he said louder. "I will not accept this. You can't, and you will not do this." he insisted. "You're not a pawn. I will not consent to this."
Sakura's tears fell freely as she looked into Kakashi's eyes. The pain in both their hearts was palpable, and the weight of the decision hung heavily in the air. Kakashi's resolve to protect Sakura clashed with her desperate attempt to shield him from further harm.
"Sakura, we'll find another way," Kakashi pleaded, his thumbs gently wiping away her tears. "I can't let you sacrifice yourself for the illusion of protecting me. We'll face this together, no matter what."
Sakura's voice trembled as she spoke, her emotions raw and exposed. "Kakashi, I love you so much, and it hurts to see you suffer because of me. I can't bear it."
Kakashi pressed his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling in the small space between them. "I can't lose you, Sakura. I won't let her take you away from me. We'll find a way to end this nightmare without tearing us apart."
She looked at his eyes and searched for the truth in it. "Kakashi, what if she never stopped hounding us?"
Kakashi's gaze held a fierce determination as he met Sakura's eyes. "Then, we'll face it together. We'll build a fortress around us. We'll have the ninkens around us. Dad will stay here with us. Or if you want, we will leave Konoha. Hatake's are originally from the Land of Lightning. We can go back there. Whatever it is that we need to do to ensure that we stay together, we'll do it."
Sakura stared into Kakashi's eyes, a mix of gratitude, love, and fear reflected in her tearful gaze. The intensity of Kakashi's commitment and determination to protect their love resonated deeply within her.
"Please, Sakura." Kakashi whispered. "Don't let your mother win. Don't leave me."
Sakura, torn between her love for Kakashi and her desire to shield him from harm, felt the weight of the decision pressing down on her. She gazed into Kakashi's eyes, searching for a glimmer of hope amid the darkness that surrounded them.
Kakashi's plea echoed in her heart, resonating with the depth of their connection. The warmth of the bathwater seemed to encapsulate them in a moment frozen in time, where the future hung in the balance.
"Please, Sakura."
"I'm not the same Sakura anymore, Kakashi." she murmured. "I don't want to see our room ever again. She... Mama brought him there. I don't want to ever sleep on our bed again."
Kakashi's heart ached at Sakura's words, the pain etched on her face mirroring the deep scars left by the traumatic events. He tightened his grip on her hands, a silent promise to be there for her through the darkness.
"Sakura, we can rebuild. We can create new memories, away from the pain of the past," Kakashi whispered, his voice filled with empathy. "We can move out of here, if you want. If it will make you feel better, we can look for a new house. Dad wouldn't mind."
Sakura nodded, appreciating Kakashi's understanding and willingness to support her decisions. The prospect of creating a new beginning, free from the haunting memories, offered a glimmer of hope in the midst of the chaos.
"Thank you, Kakashi," Sakura whispered, her voice laden with both gratitude and sadness. "I just... I want to feel safe again. Away from the shadows of what happened."
Kakashi nodded, determined to provide Sakura with the safety and peace she sought. "We'll find a place where you can heal, where we can build a future together without the constant fear of the past haunting us. You deserve that, Sakura."
As the realization of the challenges they faced settled in, Kakashi and Sakura clung to each other in that small bathroom, seeking solace and strength in their shared love. The water in the bathtub, once a source of comfort, now symbolized a cleansing—a renewal of their commitment to each other and the beginning of a journey toward healing.
Kakashi held Sakura close, and together they faced the daunting path that lay ahead. The love they shared became a beacon in the darkness, guiding them through the storm of uncertainty. The bond forged in their shared past would be the foundation upon which they would rebuild their lives.
