She was never, ever, ever doing that again. Nope. Never. It wasn't going to happen. Not if this was the result. How could people do this week after week or even day after day in some cases? Why? Urgh, she felt horrible. Why did her stomach feel both empty and need to throw up at the same time? It felt so sensitive. It was awful Thank Merlin for Headache Relieving potions, that's all she was saying. She couldn't bear the thought of having a headache on top of this stomach of hers. Even if her parents did debate on whether or not to give her one so she would "learn a lesson". Her pathetic groaning seemed to have worked at least and she had got the potion. A potion that really did work wonders. Though it settled her stomach so quickly that it made her stomach feel weird. Like she couldn't trust it or something. Definitely not enough for a breakfast. The only thing She grabbed this morning was a tea that she added about ten packets of sugar to. Something not even her sweet tooth would normally be able to stand but by Merlin that was exactly what She needed today. At least, her stomach had accepted it and she was taking that as a win.
She almost didn't eat lunch as well but the smell of the rice was just too nice and her stomach was rumbling so she took a chance and no dashing to the loo so she was taking that as a win. Still wasn't going to push it through which was why she was having a very simple dinner of a burger with nothing on it and no alcohol.
"You know, you can have a glass of something at dinner," Andromeda said in amusement as Tonks very firmly ordered 'just plain tap water' with her meal.
Plain tap water which her dad changed to bottled water after reminding her that even though the tap water was perfectly safe, she probably shouldn't take any chances. Tonks had quickly agreed, throwing up for the entirety of one night was more than enough for her this holiday, thank you very much. She shuddered ad her stomach did backflips at the thought. Oh, she could not put herself through that again. It wasn't going to happen. Her stomach was fine and calm and it was going to stay that way. Throwing up was not an option. It wasn't. Distraction. She needed a distraction.
"Water is perfectly fine," Tonks said with conviction.
Her parents exchanged amused looks that she really did not appreciate but she wasn't exactly in a position to argue. She was pretty sure that her head still hurt despite the potion she had taken.
The water came in a gloriously tall glass and she chugged about half of it down at once. It would have been the whole thing but she choked on it and her dad had to thump her on the back all while her mother looked on, mortified.
"I suppose it is good to find your limits," Andromeda said with a sigh.
Surprisingly she didn't sound that disappointed or even mad. Tonks had been expecting this big lecture once she had finally woken up to the bright afternoon but she hadn't even got a little one. Just two glasses of water and eventually a headache reliever. Both of which she had been very grateful for.
"Think I went well past mine."
"Well, then the next time you won't be quite so ridiculous. I mean, really, Nymphadora. Four cocktails?"
"And two of something else that I can't remember," she grumbled.
She somehow remembered she had six drinks but not what she had drank. Was that bad?
The night did turn out to be fun despite how the day started. Her stomach was still a bit weird feeling but the food was good, her parents were telling her funny stories from Hogwarts, the music was great and they were planning to go down to the beach after because it was still really bright outside because they had decided to get dinner early. Well, early for the Spanish, it was only around six as they finished up eating and were checking out the dessert menu.
Then, her night got even better. Marcus randomly appeared and started chatting with her and her parents. He was really quite charming, it turned out.
"Why don't we go and get dessert?" Marcus blatantly flirted with her. "There is a lovely place just up the road."
Tonks gave him a silly sort of grin and turned to her parents.
"Go, have fun," Andromeda made a shooing motion. "We don't need your company for dessert and drinks."
"Yeah, I don't want any drinks," she turned to Marcus as she said that. "Maybe just some dessert?"
He looked amused at her proposition but nodded.
"Sure, can't go with just some ice cream. There's a really nice place around the corner that does the best ice-cream."
"And no alcohol?" She checked.
Why was he finding this so funny? He was trying to hide a smile. Very unsuccessfully at that.
"No alcohol. I promise."
Well, that sealed the deal for her. So, a quick goodbye to her parents and soon she and Marcus were strolling side by side in the very busy streets. The whole place really came alive in the evenings. Who knew that people could make so much noise? Or maybe all of her senses were still a bit sensitive after last night. Or British tourists were just too loud. Probably a mixture of both.
Why did she feel nervous just walking down the street with someone?
"I've been seeing you all week," he admitted.
"Really?"
She hadn't noticed anyone looking at her. Was that a bad thing? Was she that oblivious? Should she be worried? About her and him? Was he a stalker? Should She really be going somewhere with him? Was it too late to run?
"Not in a creepy way, I swear," he said hurriedly as if he knew where her thoughts were going.
"Uh, okay," she chuckled nervously, that not reassuring her at all.
"Your hair, it kind of stands out, you know?" He said quickly, gesturing at her hair.
She touched her hair and smiled. The way he said it made it sound like he didn't think that was a bad thing. That was good. This was good. Okay, she was overthinking this. It was just a date. Well, not really a date. It was just hanging out with a guy. She was just being silly. She was on holiday! This was fun, that's all it was. She was having fun.
It turns out that he really was fun to hang out with. An easy kind of fun. They just chatted and hung out on the beach. Oh, they even had a sandcastle building contest. Well, they tried to but it turned out that this beach they were on wasn't very good for making sandcastles. Or even sand mounds. They kind of collapsed in on themselves. Which was funny but not what they wanted.
They had then done the stupid thing and kicked at the sand in frustration and belatedly realised that if it was the type of sand to collapse in on itself when you tried to put it in a mound then it was definitely the type to be carried in the wind. Yes, it blew into their mouths. Lovely.
And the kissing. The kissing was fub. Because they actually kissed. Well, kissed and then proceeded to full om snog which she didn't think was the same thing but whatever. It was fun. And a bit awkward at first because they had both tried to figure out if the other actually wanted to kiss without actually asking the other and it was just a lot of stopping and starting. They did eventually realise that they both wanted the same thing (she was blaming her slow to the uptake on her still dodgy feeling stomach) and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Until yet even more sand got into their mouths. Yuck.
