Juliet defeated Ghard while Leo took down Kamdida. Now it is Jack's turn to take on Duban. This Duel will decide whoever will take on Tamamo.
37. Light of Hope - Part 3.
Jack entered the colosseum from his entrance as he expected Duban was already waiting, at first glance Jack saw no Dueling gear on him.
The Dwemer was wearing his usual suit, his tie loosely, the top two buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, he showed no emotions.
'So Jack, we finally meet on the Dueling field.' The Dwemer spoke he took a more relaxed stance.
'I'm not here for pleasantries Duban, your tantrum has caused major issues.' Jack replied.
'Of course you would put the problem with me. We had a deal Jack, Tamamo was weakened because of Rini, you had the perfect shot to take her out and then you ditched me.'
Jack shook his head in disbelief: 'You know as well as I do Duban the entirety of the Egyptian team attacked us, who should I remind you only did this because you wanted this Duel and they thought The Blades stood in the way of their destinies!' Jack was clearly agitated: 'Then on top of that Errol tried to kill me. And now you blame me for your plan going wrong?'
Duban took a deep breath, he held it in for a few seconds before he slowly exhaled. 'You were in no way obliged to stay and wait for the Aldmer to challenge you and Errol was disqualified, our security could have taken him out for you, I would have tasked Ghard and Kamdida with that they would have won.'
Jack couldn't help but laugh: 'Not obliged to wait for their challenge?' He repeated Duban: 'And I was obliged to work with you? No Duban we had a common enemy, I agreed to help you take out Tamamo, I would have done so but only after dealing with the at that time current threats of the Aldmer and Errol.' Jack's voice was calm, but he held back a lot of anger: 'Na'eemah would have challenged the rest of my team, I already suffered two casualties to them and it took me all I had to take down Na'eemah and Ra, had Na'eemah challenged Leo and Juliet I would face Tamamo alone. Duban that is not a realistic fight I could win and you know this.'
Duban didn't reply. 'And about Errol?' Jack continued: 'You think Ghard and Kamdida could have stopped him? He was dead-set on killing me, he would have sliced through your allies simply to get to me, they could not have stopped him whatsoever and if you believe they could stop Errol and if you believe Na'eemah would have not challenged us simply because you wanted me, Leo and Juliet to fight the three of you? Then you are in severe denial!'
Duban simply stared at Jack who was still awfully calm, he didn't raise his voice even one bit, but all the anger was there.
'I see.' Duban then simply said: 'Seems we both have our opinions and it seems we are both fed up with the other, let's just start the Duel.'
Jack nodded: 'Finally something we agree on.'
Duban spread his arms a hatch in front of him and Jack opened up and an entire console rose from it, this was a complete Dueling field, they took their Deck and placed it in the slot there the auto shuffler shuffled it again and ejected five cards, then a screen on the console turned on. The hologram projectors turned on.
'This Jack will be the future of Dueling, at least for main events, the console shows all the information a D-Gazer would show you and the many hologram projectors means that anyone will see what a D-Gazer would normally show during the Duel.' Duban rearranged his hand.
'Duel!' Both shouted as soon as the signal for the start of the Duel went off.
(Jack: 8000) - (Duban: 8000)
Jack looked over his hand, Duban had given him the first turn and Jack knew exactly why. 'So he goes for a one-turn kill. I know that the attack points of his Granel are equal to his life points. I've also seen the strategy to use Dark Hole to destroy the Core. If I summon a monster now, Duban summons Grand Core, then uses Dark Hole to clear my field so he can attack me directly with a Machine Emperor with eight-thousand life points.'
Jack took two cards from his hand he placed them on the spell and trap zone on console both cards appeared face-down of the field.
'I end my turn.' The Blade stated.
Duban showed a smile as he drew his card: 'I have studied your Deck Jack, chances are one face-down card is Stardust Re-Spark, the other card something to save whatever Synchro you bring out with Stardust Re-Spark. The only way you could survive my one-turn kill.'
Duban played a card, as Jack had expected Grand Core appeared, the mechanical egg opened up showing the core or the Machine Emperor. (0 ATK)
'Next Dark Hole.' Duban stated, a realistic vortex appeared all over the arena, the people in the crowd gasped the egg was sucked in it.
'You know what comes now Jack.' Duban said as he spread his arms the pieces of Granel that all resembled aquatic creature materialized inside the arena. 'I summon Machine Emperor Granel Infinity, Granel Top, Granel Attack, Granel Guard and Granel Carrier!'
Quickly the parts changed and combined to form the massive machine the glowing core was shifting through the infinity symbol in the chest.
'As you already know Granel's attack points are tied to my life points.' Duban stated, the Machine Emperor got stronger. (0- 8000 ATK)
'Direct attack.' Duban calmly stated he knew what would come now.
'I activate Stardust Re-Spark!' Jack shouted, a barrier appeared around him blocking the lasers from the Machine Emperor, then the projected sky turned dark as stardust fell down on the field and the audience, seconds later Stardust Dragon materialized it flew around the colosseum a few times before landing in front of Jack. (2500 ATK)
'Now I activate Mystical Space Typhoon.' Jack stated as his other face-down card appeared: 'I use it to destroy Mystical Space Typhoon, which in turn activates the effect of Stardust Dragon!' Before the tornado could appear a shimmer appeared around Stardust Dragon it faded away leaving an image of itself made out of stardust, Mystical Space Typhoon exploded.
Duban showed a smile: 'Of course you would to protect it from my Machine Emperor, but I end my turn now which means Stardust Dragon returns and is in the crosshairs of my Machine Emperor again.'
The image of Stardust Dragon became solid again as the real dragon reappeared. (2500 ATK)
Jack drew his card. 'So I survived his one-turn-kill. The point is that I spend valuable resources to make it happen and having a Synchro out is dangerous. Most Duelist who try to pull a one-turn-kill have no plan when their move fails. Duban I can't underestimate.'
Jack carefully looked over his hand. 'I summon Junk Blader.' He stated in front of his Stardust Dragon appeared the purple warrior with his striking, red sword. (1800 ATK)
'Duban, this Duel will be a fast one.' Jack shouted, his comment was met with a chuckle. 'That so Jack? Talking big are we?' The Dwemer replied.
'No, I simply can't let this Duel last, I won't be able to beat you in the long run, you know this Duban.' Jack was awfully calm, he knew he only had a few chances to do this. 'I activate Riryoku!' He shouted as the spell card flashed on the field: 'My Stardust Dragon steals half of your Granel's attack points!' The Machine Emperor got weaker while the attack power of Stardust Dragon skyrocketed. (Granel: 8000- 4000 ATK, Stardust: 2500- 6500 ATK)
'Attack Machine Emperor Granel Infinity! Shooting Sonic!' Jack roared the Signer Dragon fired its most powerful beam yet.
'Granel Guard prevents the destruction of my monster!' Duban shouted a barrier appeared around the giant machine the beam got deflected, the crowd gasped as the beam struck into the stand creating an explosion of particles.
(Jack: 8000) - (Duban: 8000- 5500)
Granel got a bit stronger again, since its original attack points changed due to Duban losing life points. (4000- 5500 ATK)
'Junk Blader!' Jack roared, the warrior leaped at Granel Attack, (0 DEF) Junk Blader cut the arm clean off it exploded pieces of it hitting Jack, Duban and the crowd.
Quickly Jack placed two cards on the console, both appeared face-down.
'I end my turn.' The Blade stated.
Duban almost showed a smile, Jack could see he wanted to enjoy the Duel but something prevented him from enjoying it.
'Time for my counter attack Jack, first of all I summon Granel Attack 3.' A new machine that resembled a fish appeared, it changed and then connected into the empty socket giving Granel a new arm.
'I attack Stardust Dragon!' The Dwemer commanded Granel started to charge up a laser. 'I activate Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!' Jack replied, his trap started to activate.
'I also have a Mystical Space Typhoon.' Duban stated he quickly played the spell.
'Then I use this opportunity to save Stardust Dragon!' Jack replied, he would take a massive amount of damage because of Junk Blader, but at least Stardust would be save.
'No Jack, I won't allow it.' Duban calmly replied: 'Granel Top negates the effect of a Synchro you control.' Stardust's glow died out, Jack's trap card got swept away then the deafening sound of the laser being fired echoed through the arena leaving explosions everywhere it hit, Stardust Dragon stood no chance, before the dragon could hit the ground wires shot out of the chest of Granel dragging the dead dragon in. 'You thought you were save Jack? Granel can take a Synchro the moment it is destroyed by battle. You played around my Synchro stealing effect. I never planned on using that to begin with.' Duban proudly revealed. Suddenly a blast of electricity shot out from Granel, the Machine Emperor got stronger. (5500- 8000 ATK)
(Jack: 8000- 5000) - (Duban: 5500)
'And now Jack, comes the fun part!' Granel's chest opened up, Stardust Dragon came out held by wires. 'Attack Junk Blader! Shooting Sonic!' To Jack's horror Stardust Dragon opened its maw the beam shot out, Granel used its wires to steer the beam in the right direction but not before hitting half the crowd. If these attacks were real there would have been a lot of casualties, then the laser destroyed one of the Colosseum lamps before finally hitting its target, the blast left nothing but a small crater in the ground. Ones Stardust Dragon was done it was pulled back into Granel's chest.
(Jack: 5000- 4300) - (Duban: 5500)
Duban placed a card on the console, which appeared face-down.
'I end my turn Jack.' He stated with a hint of excitement in his voice.
Jack looked at his new card before he added it to his hand. 'This is a huge gamble.' Jack was calculating things in his head: 'This will win me the Duel. My only chance. I have to go for it.'
'Since I have no monsters on the field I special summon Junk Forward!'
The warrior clad in white armor materialized on the field the exhaust pipe on his back was roaring. (900 ATK)
'Next I summon Junk Synchron!' The Blade continued his orange, Tuner robot appeared next to Junk Forward. (1300 ATK)
Junk Synchron ripped its cord, it changed into three green rings, the Colosseum was bathe in a green light. 'Gathering stars light the way to my destiny, become the light to shatter the darkness! Synchro Summon! Shine, Stardust Charge Warrior!' Jack chanted, an explosion of green light followed and with it appeared the mighty warrior clad in white, black and purple armor, his mechanical sword-like wings shone in the green Synchro light. (2000 ATK)
'Synchro summoning Stardust Charge Warrior lets me draw a card.' Jack stated quickly he added it to his hand.
'Now I activate Final Attack Orders!' Jack shouted his face-down continuous trap card opened up. 'All monsters are now in attack position, this includes all the individual pieces of Granel.' Jack confirmed for himself. 'Stardust Charge Warrior attacks Granel Guard!' Jack shouted, the warrior dislodged one of its wings to use as a sword then it leaped at the Machine Emperor.
'You won't Jack, I can use Stardust Dragon as a shield.' Duban stated, Jack's Signer Dragon materialized in front of Granel it was held up by the Machine Emperor's wires. (2500 ATK)
'I activate Shrink!' Jack shouted he played the card he got from Stardust Charge Warrior Stardust Dragon got weaker. (2500- 1250 ATK)
With one slice of the wing-sword Stardust Dragon fell to the ground freed from the wires.
(Jack: 4300) - (Duban: 5500- 4750)
'Now that is what I call merciless Jack. Slaying your ally like it is nothing.' The Dwemer calmly spoke.
'Don't even start Duban. Stardust Dragon was dead, no more than a puppet for your Granel. I did Stardust Dragon a service by freeing it.' Jack paused for a second, Stardust Charge Warrior took his other wing as a second sword. 'But I will avenge Stardust Dragon, Stardust Charge Warrior attacks all special summoned monsters!' (Top: 500 ATK, Guard: 500 ATK, Carrier: 700 ATK, Attack 3: 1800 ATK)
Stardust Charge Warrior ran at the Machine Emperor leaping off of its body to gain some hight with both of the sword the warrior sliced off the left and right arms then he plunged both swords in the body of the Machine Emperor using his weight to drag them down slicing off the Carrier, the moment the body of the Machine Emperor crashed on the ground Stardust Charge Warrior beheaded him.
'I activate Damage Vaccine Omega Max!' Duban shouted his face-down card activated. 'From your battle with Granel Top I gain fifteen-hundred life points.' The Dwemer explained.
(Jack: 4300) - (Duban: 4750- 3250- 1950- 1750- 250- 1750)
Granel's body was still there, the core still shifting around in the chest. (1750 ATK) Stardust Charge Warrior reattached one of his wings then grabbed the other one with both arms before trusting it into the Machine Emperor's chest destroying the core.
(Jack: 4300) - (Duban: 1750- 1500)
'Since I have no more cards I end my turn.' Jack stated, Duban took a last look at the remains of his Machine Emperor that now covered the arena.
'As expected Jack.' The Dwemer broke the silence: 'I knew you would destroy Granel. I wanted you to do it even.' He showed a malicious grin before he drew his card. 'Because now Jack, I have prepared a back-up plan to take you down, this one is way more satisfying than using Granel.'
Duban showed a dirty smile when he played his next card, a large, mechanical snake-like dragon it had mechanical horns protruding from its head and neck and two wires that ran from its jaw into its neck. (2100 ATK)
'As you know Jack, I can special summon Cyber Dragon when my field is empty and you control at least one monster.' The Dwemer then took the last card from his hand and played it. A smaller mechanical, snake-like dragon appeared, this one was a lot smaller than the real Cyber Dragon and with less horns. (1100 ATK)
'This is Cyber Dragon Vier, Vier counts as a Cyber Dragon on the field and in the Graveyard and each Cyber Dragon I control gains five-hundred attack points.' The Dwemer explained a purple glow appeared around Cyber Dragon Vier, it and Cyber Dragon got stronger. (Cyber Dragon: 2100- 2600 ATK, Vier: 1100- 1600 ATK)
'Cyber Dragon!' Duban roared the machine charged a laser in its maw, with it the dragon obliterated Stardust Charge Warrior leaving a small crater where the warrior once stood.
'Vier, direct attack!' Duban roared Jack didn't even flinch when the laser shot through his body, leaving scorch marks where it hit the ground.
(Jack: 4300- 3700- 2100) - (Duban: 1500)
Jack smiled, Cyber Dragons he could work with.
'Duban this going to be the real Duel.' Jack stated as he drew his card.
'I activate Pot of Extravagance.' The amalgamation of Pot of Greed and Pot of Riches appeared on the field, Jack shuffled his Extra Deck then randomly removed six cards and placed them in his pocket, then he drew two new cards.
'I activate Monster Reborn!' He shouted the Colosseum got shrouded in a golden light a gigantic Ankh appeared in mid-air underneath it appeared Stardust Charge Warrior. (2000 ATK)
'Attack Cyber Dragon Vier!' Jack commanded the warrior grabbed one of his wings again and cleaved the smaller of the mechanical dragons in half with it, without Vier Cyber Dragon got weaker. (2600- 2100 ATK)
(Jack: 2100) - (Duban: 1500- 1100)
Jack placed the last card from his hand on the console which appeared face-down next to his Final Attack Orders.
Duban took a few deep breaths before he drew his card.
'Pot of Avarice.' He stated quickly he shuffled five of his Granel pieces back in his Deck before he drew two cards.
'Pot of Desires!' He shouted this time the amalgamation of Pot of Greed and Pot of Desires appeared, the Dwemer took the top ten cards from his Deck and placed them in his pocket then he drew two cards.
'You've fought well Jack, but in the end I was the better Duelist.' A huge grim formed on Duban's face. 'I activate Power Bond!' He spread his arms as the spell card appeared: 'I fuse the Cyber Dragon on my field with the two in my hand!' The hologram projectors in the arena produced dark clouds, the lights around the arena dimmed, then lightning struck the ground. Two more Cyber Dragons appeared, they combined together into another snake-like dragon this one had two, large wings and three heads, sparks of electricity appeared around the towering monstrosity. 'A monster fused with Power Bond has its attack doubled.' Lightning struck the Cyber End Dragon powering it up. (4000- 8000 ATK)
'Cyber End Dragon! Attack Stardust Charge Warrior and grand me my victory!' Duban roared.
'I activate Half Shut!' Jack replied even louder than Duban.
'So what?' Duban chuckled: 'You half your monsters attack points and in return it can't be destroyed by battle this turn.'
Jack shook his head: 'Not my monster Duban. Yours!'
The electricity surrounding Cyber End Dragon disappeared. (8000- 4000 ATK) Then three laser beams struck Stardust Charge Warrior leaving nothing but a huge crater.
(Jack: 2100- 100) - (Duban: 1100)
Slowly Duban started to clap. 'Well played Jack. I end my turn and thus I take damage equal to the original attack points of Cyber End Dragon.'
Duban spread his arms he looked up to the sky, eyes closed. Lightning struck him.
(Jack: 100) - (Duban: 1100- 0)
The holograms disappeared, the Dwemer lowered his arms.
'A victory well earned.' He said then he turned around. 'Jack, I meet you and your team backstage, for now it seems they want to celebrate your victory.' Jack looked around as his Blades all entered the Dueling field, Violet and Rini were there as well, they had just appeared as the effects of the wine Rini had drunk didn't seem to last very long. Violet suspected it had something to do with that magic she had show when facing Tamamo.
A few minutes after Duban had left the television screens turned on showing a Half-Dwemer wearing a suit, he wore the badge of the official Dueling organization.
'This is an official announcement.' The man spoke: 'Just moments ago Duban lost a Duel against Jack. This means that only two teams remain, the first team being The Blades with Jack, Leo and Juliet. The second team is The Old Order with the only member being Mae. All Duelists need to gather in the Colosseum as soon as possible, vans have been dispatched to make sure the Duelists arrive fast and safe.' The screen turned off, of course The Blades were already there.
A few minutes after the broadcast a black van arrived, the back door opened, Tamamo stepped out she looked different, she had replaced her regal robes with a tight, dark-red, crop-top, black leggings, dark-red, high-heeled boots and a black, finger-less glove on her right hand, she wore her weird Dueling gauntlet on her left, around her neck hung the color-shifting orb that fit with the Dueling glove.
She showed a devious grin when she noticed Jack looking at her, then Duban entered the arena.
'So all four finalists have gathered here. I shall keep this brief.' The Dwemer stated: 'The finals will be a series of Duels, Mae as the sole survivor of her team needs to take on each of the Blades. Fields, Decks and life points will reset after each Duel so each Duel starts fresh. The finals end when either one of the three remaining Blades defeats Mae or Mae defeats all three of the remaining Blades.' Duban looked at all the finalists: 'Any questions?' He asked.
Tamamo stepped to the front: 'I do have a request if I may?' She asked with her sultry voice: 'I don't think the Blades stand a fair chance against me. Instead of giving everyone three boring single Duels I have a proposition, I take on all three of the Blades at the same time.'
The crowd went silent, Duban used his earpiece and started talking soft and fast, after a few moments he turned his microphone back on. 'The tournament staff agrees to your request Mae. The rules will be as follow all Blades have their own fields and cards they can use, so Jack cannot attack with monsters Leo has summoned, they can activate cards and effects to aid each other. All Blades get a turn and then Mae takes her turn, Mae is allowed to attack on her first turn, in case of a direct attack from Mae's side none of her opponents must have a monster on the field, should Mae direct attack Leo but Juliet has a monster on the field, no matter the position that monster is in, that monster automatically becomes the attack target. To balance this Mae will start with triple life points.' Duban looked at Tamamo who nodded to confirm she agreed.
'Then it is decided, in exactly one hour the final Duel of the tournament will take place in this arena. Failing to show on time results in immediate elimination.' With these words the television screens turned on showing a one hour timer that started to count down, Duban signaled the Blades to follow him before he went backstage.
Jack entered the room shortly after Duban. Ghard and Kamdida were also there as well as the rest of the Signers and Rini, they had set up a laptop for a video call so Ravin could also listen.
'Jack.' Duban said he sounded all serious: 'First of all congratulations with your victory, that was a grand Duel. Everything I hoped it would be.'
Jack took a chair and he sat down. 'Sounds like you hoped I'd win.' Jack replied coldly. 'Deep down I wished for that.' The Dwemer simply replied: 'With your victory the last of Sabrina's ways are dead, I deep down was upholding her ways, with your victory that last remnant of her is dead.' Duban looked at the floor: 'I owed a lot to Sabrina, she was practically the mother of us Dwemer, I think you understand Jack that I simply couldn't throw that all away, I believed there was truth in her ways and I still do. But not the way as they are now.' He showed Jack a document, the Blade took his time reading it. 'So you're going public.' Jack said after he was done reading. 'Yes we drop the name The New Government, I've found a bunch of Half-Dwemer who want the same thing. We're going to form a political party working together with the Aware division of the current government.'
Jack handed the documents back: 'What do you try to achieve?' He asked.
'A way to make life better for both Aware and Unaware.' Duban simply replied.
'You realize you need backing from powerful parties, Sabrina's activities are becoming more known and so are her connections to you guys. Realistically nobody would back you, Sabrina is considered a terrorist.'
Duban let out a sigh: 'I never said it would be easy, I know it won't be easy.' Jack saw he was serious, there was regret in his eyes for what he did.
'Therefor as of today Kamdida is no longer a part of this group, Ravin might have forgiven her but she still tried to kill him. Even if nobody will press charges it still happened and the association is why nobody would back us.'
Jack stood up, he was irritated: 'And you think throwing your ally away like that will solve things?'
Kamdida cleared her throat: 'This was my idea Jack.'
Her words calmed Jack down a bit he sat back down.
'Kamdida.' Duban started: 'Wants something different, she wants to follow in the footsteps of Tagrida.' Jack remembered Tagrida as the Dwemer who had created the bodies of the Dwemer Constructs, code name Ebony and Ivory. Leo and Juliet faced off against the two constructs in the end it was revealed Tagrida died during an accident and her soul was preserved in the two, in the end the two Constructs combined allowing Tagrida to briefly return.
'Of course I won't make machines for war.' Kamdida quickly added before Jack got the wrong idea: 'I have ideas for technology to better the lives of people. Duban made a deal with a large company responsible for top notch medical equipment as well as research and development division for Sector Security and he found a team for my personal project for Dueling equipment. Working with Sector Security is a sort of community service.'
Jack nodded: 'So that is backing from a large group, that holds but you need more.'
This time Ghard stood up, he reached out his hand to Jack. 'Pleased to meet you Jack, I am the newest member of Sector Security, the training division and the special division.' Jack shook the Dwemer's hand, the special division of Sector Security was responsible for taking down the worst of the worst no matter the cost, not a division anyone could join.
'I've made a deal with Sector Security.' Duban took over from Ghard: 'Our satellites are a huge help for Sector Security. I gave them Ghard through Ghard Sector Security will have full insight of what the New Government wants as well as full access to our database. Through Ghard Sector Security also has a foot in the door with the government, instead of them simply obeying orders from higher up Sector Security will get a say in decisions regarding their operations. In return they back me.'
'So you now have the backing of a major corporation and Sector Security, your allies are now in positions they want to be and you officially dissolve The New Government. If you join politics officially there is no chance for you to try anything. Kamdida will no longer have power in politics and Ghard becomes a member of Sector Security which means he is under supervision so there will be no illegal business like you getting classified information from Ghard.' Jack spoke more to himself, he stood up: 'You realize you put yourself in an incredibly vulnerable position.'
Duban followed Jack's example by standing up: 'That is exactly the point Jack, however it is not enough. The Unaware part of the government agrees with my backing of Sector Security, both parties agree with my backing of Kamdida's new employers however the Aware division wants a backing as well, they do not accept Sector Security.'
Jack looked at his allies: 'They will accept it if The Blades back you.' He finally said. 'You backing me is the only thing they will accept.' Duban replied.
'Why should I?' Jack asked: 'Sabrina brought a lot of grief, you might have lost Kamdida but what she did is still fresh in my mind not to mention Tamamo still has a Dwemer Construct made by Sabrina and handed to her by you, the fact that was a contract doesn't matter to me you could have refused and you should have, then you organize this tournament to lure in Tamamo and to prove your right against me. So Duban give me one good reason why I should back you?'
Duban looked at Kamdida then at Ghard: 'I can't Jack.' He replied, it remained silent.
'That's what I wanted to hear.' The Blade finally broke the silence: 'There is nothing you can do now that could change my mind. However your worth will be determined once you are in a position you can make a difference.'
The Dwemer was nervous, the first time Jack saw him like that: 'I will back you Duban, for now at least. Once you are a politician I will closely watch what you do. The moment I see something that points towards you getting back to Sabrina's ways I pull my backing away from you.'
Duban knew that if Jack would stop backing him his life would be over.
After Duban had properly thanked Jack and they all shared a beer or two Duban got all serious again: 'Before we celebrate our new cooperation, there is still the issue of Tamamo. With only roughly fifteen minutes left before the final Duel there is something I need to discuss. That is why Rini is here as well since she has some insights.' Duban started.
