—6 Months Later—
I took a cold wet towel and placed it on my face to cool down, wiping the sweat away.
"Been a while since I've broken a sweat like that." I sat on the bench.
"I'm glad I could break you away from your project." Steve knelt down, digging through his bag. "I have a question, Alexis."
"Shoot." I wrapped the towel around my neck and picked up my bag.
"Your lab on the carrier." We locked eyes. "It was practically destroyed. That's where you were when the engine blew. How'd you walk out with less than a scratch?"
"I guess I was just lucky." I stood up and placed the my bag on my shoulder, turning to leave.
"Or you weren't in your lab."
"What are you getting at Steve?" I looked over my shoulder.
"What really happened to you on that carrier?" Steve stood up, placing his bag on the bench.
"Don't ask a question you don't want to know the answer to Steve."
"Goodnight, Alexis." Steve said as I started walking out the door.
I walked a few blocks down the street until I entered the apartment building. It was more on the high end of things. Just one of a few places I have for myself. I said hi to the front desk as usual and took the elevator to my floor.
I tossed my gym bag on the floor as soon as I exited the elevator and made my way to the kitchen. I started filling a pot with water then set it on the stove to boil. I pulled the pasta out and set it aside while I got the ingredients for spaghetti sauce. Lost in my thoughts…
Three to Four Years Ago When Loki returned…
"You're insane." I shook my head. "What happened to you?" I leaned on the kitchen island.
"A lot. I owe Him my life, Alexis. I don't have a choice." Loki sunk into the table chair.
I closed my eyes, racking my brain around all the information. Tears escaped and ran down my cheek.
"Please don't cry." I heard him shift the chair and his steps getting closer.
"I want to help you." I opened my eyes. He was on the other side of the island. Tears continued to run down my cheeks.
"No." He furrowed his brows. "I won't let you be a part of this."
"Loki-" I started to walk around to him.
"NO!" He punched the island, causing me to jump. "He can't know about you."
I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my head into his chest. "We're in this together."
Resting one hand on my back, he lifted my chin with the other until we locked eyes. "Of course darling." He rested a kiss on my forehead.
-Present Day-
Dinner was nearly ready as I felt hands on my hips and a voice in my ear.
"I hope there's enough for both of us, darling." He rested a kiss on my shoulder and then reached over turning the stove off.
"But you-"
"I don't have a lot of time." He pulled me away from the stove and against the kitchen island behind us.
He sat me on the island and we were at eye level. He took a second to take me in and then I pulled him into a kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he rest his hands on my waist.
We were immersed in each other, I didn't hear the elevator ding, just a voice.
"Why is he back on earth?"
I turned around to see Steve with his gym bag on his shoulder. I slid across the island and got down.
"Why are you here?" I slowly walked closer to Steve.
"Did you help him?" He ignored my question.
"Why are you here?!"
"How could you be involved with this monster?" He dropped his gym bag.
"WHY are you HERE?! You have never been here. Why now?!" I screamed.
"Your dad called me. Said you might be in trouble."
"Get. Out." I clenched my teeth.
"I'm not leaving you alone with him."
Something inside me broke. I started laughing. "Loki bested you once." I smiled. "How do you think you'll do against the two of us?"
"Alexis, please. Don't do this." Steve pleaded.
