Chris noticed that the scent of Jasmine was lightly dusting the air in heaven. That scent reminded him of Annie. It made him smile.
"That was the smell of Annie's favorite body lotion," Chris told Albert with a smile.
"Yes," Albert replied.
"Albert, can I ask you a question?"
"Of course," Albert encouraged, "Don't I always encourage you to do so?"
"Where is Marie?" Chris asked.
He had already found Katie (his dog) and Ian as well as Annie, but he had yet to find Marie.
A look of sadness crossed Albert's face. He motioned for Chris to sit down. Chris sat down as Albert suggested.
"Chris," he explained, "Marie is in hell. I know it seems unfair→ and once someone is there nobody can rescue them."
Chris felt his stomach drop out from under him.
"You see," Albert continued, "Nanny let Marie drive. When she saw the car coming, she accidentally pressed on the gas instead of the break. That's why Marie is in hell."
"So, nanny did a stupid thing, but Marie is in hell?" Chris asked slowly, "That makes literally no sense."
"I know," Albert said, "The devil doesn't play fair."
Thunder rumbled lightly in the distance. Chris stood up with a determined look on his face.
"I'm her father," he said, "I can rescue her."
He spoke quietly and firmly.
"Chris, you don't understand," Albert said, "You're risking your own soul."
"HERE'S WHAT I DO UNDERSTAND," Chris replied in frustration, "I UNDERSTAND THAT MY INNOCENT CHILD IS IN HELL BECAUSE NANNY LET HER DRIVE. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S BETTER FOR MY SOUL TO SUFFER THEN FOR MARIE'S SOUL TO SUFFER. EVEN IF SHE HAD DONE SOMETHING WRONG, I WOULD RESCUE HER."
